Community workshop on bone health enlightens attendees

A comprehensive Ageing Well Community Awareness Workshop focusing on Bone Health was recently convened at the South Metropolitan Health Service, drawing participation from healthcare professionals, community leaders, and esteemed guests, including Consul General Amarjeet Singh Takhi and Chief Executive Paul Forden.

Led by Dr. Sadhana Bose of Anantha Australia (AA), in collaboration with the WA Older People Health Network and various organizations, the workshop served as a platform to disseminate valuable insights on maintaining optimal bone health, promoting healthy lifestyles, and adopting nutritious diets to mitigate risks of falls and bonerelated ailments.

Eminent medical experts, academic researchers, and community volunteers, along with Chairs of SIG WA Falls Management and WA OPHN, shared valuable information and data aimed at empowering attendees with knowledge and strategies to enhance their bone health and overall well-being.

In recognition of her outstanding achievements and contributions to astronomy, Dr. Renu Sharma, Chief Operating Officer at the International Centre for Radio Astronomy Research, was honored during the workshop. Consul General Amarjeet Singh Takhi and Paul Forden acknowledged Dr. Sharma's remarkable accomplishments, including the recent establishment of 'The Renu Sharma Scholarship in Astronomy and Astrophysics' by the University of Western Australia. The workshop provided a platform for participants to engage in meaningful discussions, exchange insights, and explore innovative approaches to promote bone health and active ageing within the community. Through collaborative efforts and knowledge-sharing initiatives, stakeholders aim to empower individuals to take proactive measures towards maintaining optimal health and well-being as they age.

The event underscored the importance of community-driven initiatives and collaborative partnerships in addressing key healthcare challenges and promoting holistic approaches to ageing well. With a focus on preventive healthcare and education, such workshops play a crucial role in fostering a healthier and more resilient community in Perth and beyond.
