IOTA 24 to feature prominent Indian artisans in Perth & Fremantle

The prestigious Indian Ocean Craft Triennial (IOTA 24) is set to be held in Perth and Fremantle from August to October 2024. This highly anticipated event will showcase the talents of several prominent Indian artisans, featuring exhibitions and a conference across various galleries.

Notable participants include the Pargai Artisans from Tamil Nadu, the Stitching Project from Pushkar, embroidery artisans from Varanasi, bamboo artisans from Kolkata, and Morii Design from Gandhinagar in Gujarat. Additionally, local artists from the Narthanalaya School of Indian Classical Dance will present their craft and art during the festival.

The event will also feature acclaimed visiting artists and speakers such as visual artists Asim Waqif and Ishan Khosla from New Delhi, textile expert Bappaditya Biswas from Kolkata, and TEDx speaker Ankon Mitra, a sculpture and installation artist and landscape designer from New Delhi.

In preparation for IOTA 24, co-curator Jude Van Der Merwe recently met with Consul General of India, Amarjeet Singh Takh. The Consul General expressed enthusiasm for the event, highlighting its significance in fostering cultural exchange and celebrating the intricate craftsmanship of Indian artisans.
