Andhra Association of Queensland Inaugurated in grand celebration of Telugu culture

Brisbane, November 5

A new chapter for the Telugu community in Queensland was marked on Saturday, 2nd November, with the official inauguration of the Andhra Association of Queensland (AAQ) at Progress Hall, Upper Mount Gravatt. The grand event saw the gathering of over 240 members of the Telugu families, community leaders, and cultural enthusiasts, all united in their passion for preserving and celebrating Telugu traditions, language, and heritage.

Local politicians, including Paul Scarr, Senator for Queensland, Corrine McMillan, State Member for Mansfield, and Angela Owen, Ex-Councillor for Calamvale, attended the event, underscoring the importance of preserving cultural roots while thriving in a foreign land. Their presence highlighted the significance of cultural celebration in strengthening multicultural bonds in the community.

The inauguration ceremony commenced with the traditional lamp-lighting ritual, performed by Angela Owen, symbolizing the illumination of knowledge and the promising future of the community. The auspicious occasion coincided with the Diwali festival week, adding a layer of festivity to the event. Paul Scarr, Senator for Queensland, digitally unveiled the AAQ's logo and spoke to the audience, commending the association’s efforts to promote cultural preservation and community engagement. “This organization is a vital link for the Indian diaspora here in Australia,” said Scarr. “It not only celebrates the rich heritage of Andhra Pradesh but also enriches the multicultural fabric of our society.”

The founding members of AAQ, Ram Junnuri and Uma Chilukoti, shared their vision for the association, emphasizing their commitment to creating a platform that celebrates Telugu heritage while fostering community engagement. "Our goal is to build a community that not only preserves but also promotes our traditions for future generations," said Uma Chilukoti, the President of AAQ. "We are excited to begin this journey and look forward to organizing meaningful events, cultural programs, and community services."

The ceremony was further enriched by a series of cultural performances, including classical dance and music, showcasing the artistic talents of the community members. A documentary highlighting the deep-rooted traditions, famous temples, arts, and culinary specialties of Andhra Pradesh earned resounding applause from the audience. Attendees were treated to a feast of traditional Andhra cuisine, sponsored by Raj Mada of Hyderabad Flavours Restaurant in Brisbane, allowing them to savor the flavors of home.

As the Andhra Association of Queensland embarks on its journey, it invites all individuals, regardless of background, to join in celebrating the rich cultural heritage of Andhra Pradesh.

With strong community support and a dedicated mission, AAQ promises to be a beacon of unity and cultural preservation for generations to come.
