Questions arise over limited AQI monitoring machines in Kolkata compared to Delhi, Mumbai automatic CAAQMS machines in the city last year, the same is yet to see the light of the day till date.
Kolkata, Nov 27 (IANS) At a time when the air quality index (AQI) is deteriorating fast in Kolkata, questions are being raised about the limited number of CAAQMS machines, meant for monitoring AQI in different pockets of the city, compared to Mumbai and National Capital Region (NCR). According to acclaimed green technologist and environment activist Somendra Mohan Ghosh, the total number of automatic Continuous Ambient Air Quality Monitoring Stations (CAAQMS) machines in Kolkata is just seven, compared to 35 in the NCR and 25 in Mumbai. This, according to him, deprives the public of getting a 360 degree picture of the pollution level scenario in the city. He also claimed that although the West Bengal Pollution Control Board (WBPCB) promised installation of 10 additional
“These 10 are overdue for installation in some critical areas at Kolkata where air pollution levels are higher than average level and are pending since March 2022. The WBPCB knows the reason better but citizens are suffering,” he added. Ghosh further pointed out that even some of the automatic CAAQMS machines in the city are at times non-functional with some being totally inactive and some showing wrong data. City-based environment activist Naba Dutta too agreed with Ghosh that just seven automatic CAAQMS machines are simply not enough for a city like Kolkata, which is already among the top ten polluted cities in the world. “Even as per standards of other national metros the number is too less. We had been for a long time interacting with the state government and the competent authorities on this count so that additional automatic CAAQMS machines were installed. But our efforts are yet to bear fruits,”
Dutta added. He also said that the issue of nonfunctional machines too has come to the notice of environmentalists. “We are actively pursuing to rectify these areas and our efforts will be on,” Dutta said. Repeated attempts made by their correspondent to contact the West Bengal minister incharge of environment department Md Ghulam Rabbani failed. Both his mobile numbers were perpetually out of reach. Environmental activists feel that LED displays are capable of displaying real time air quality data from CAAQMS stations using the data acquisition software at the central server. “It displays current time and date via satellite and various weather and ambient air parameters such as CO, PM2.5, and PM10 along with calculated AQI from a local CAAQMS station setup by the Central Pollution Control Board. “Do not know whether it is international or non-intentional. Even if it is non-intentional, who will take the responsibility for it?” Ghosh questioned.

Supreme Court has always acted as a ‘people’s court’, says CJI Chandrachud President Droupadi Murmu in the Supreme Court premises as part of Constitution Day celebrations.
New Delhi, Nov 26 (IANS) Chief Justice of India (CJI) D.Y. Chandrachud on Sunday said that the Supreme Court has acted as a "people's court" in the last seven decades. He said that thousands of citizens have approached the apex court’s door with the faith that they will get justice through this institution. "Our court is perhaps the only Ccurt in the world where any citizen, no matter who they are or where they come from, can set in motion the constitutional machinery of the Supreme Court simply by even writing to the Chief Justice of India," he said in his address after a statue of Dr BR Ambedkar was unveiled by
The CJI said that establishing such a statue is an extension of the thought that the right to approach the Court is “heart and soul” of the Constitution, as Dr Ambedkar famously said. "So when we say today, we honour the adoption of the Constitution, first and foremost, we honour the fact that the Constitution 'exists', and that the Constitution 'works'," he added. CJI Chandrachud said that apart from ensuring that the citizens get justice through its judgments, the Supreme Court has been making its administrative processes citizen-centric. He said that recently, the Supreme Court has launched e-Sewa Kendras in all courts to ensure that no citizen is left behind in the judicial process. “We embrace our citizens as co-equal partners in a shared national endeavour," he said.

Thousands of South Australians Australia’s gender pay without power amid severe storms gap falls to new low According to the Bureau of Meteorology (BoM), most areas of the city received between 10 and 20 mm of rain in the early hours of Tuesday morning,.
Canberra, Nov 28 (IANS) Thousands of residents of South Australia state were left without power on Tuesday amid severe thunderstorms. As of 7.30 a.m. on Tuesday morning, more than 7,000 premises in the state capital of Adelaide and its surrounding suburbs were without power down from 14,000 earlier - after the city was hit by a powerful lightning storm, reports Xinhua news agency.
Meanwhile, the south-eastern suburb of Brownhill Creek received 45.8 mm in one hour to 7 a.m. By comparison, in all of October Adelaide received 11.6 mm of rain. The severe weather has damaged homes, prompted warnings for South Australians to stay off the roads and prevented any flights from taking off from Adelaide airport on Tuesday morning. A severe thunderstorm warning remained in place for Adelaide for Tuesday, with the BoM warning of intense rainfall that could cause flash flooding.
"I think they'll continue on and off during the morning, perhaps easing late morning or in the afternoon, and then clearing late afternoon or evening," senior forecaster Simon Timke told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC). The State Emergency Service (SES) has advised residents in affected areas to avoid driving, riding or walking through floodwater, stay indoors away from windows while storms are nearby and keep clear of areas prone to flooding. Kate Dawson, a South Australia Police Senior Constable, told the ABC that there have been widespread reports of traffic light outages and flooded roads, asking everyone to exercise caution on the roads.

Canberra, Nov 28 (IANS) The gender pay gap in Australia has fallen 1.1 percentage points to a new low of 21.7 per cent in 2023, a new report said on Tuesday. More women in management drives a decline in the gender pay gap, but every industry and almost three in four employers still have a gender pay gap larger than 5 per cent in favor of men, the Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA) said in its annual update on the state of workplace gender equality. It's a decrease of 1.1 percentage points from 22.8 per cent in 2022, the second largest singleyear drop since WGEA started collecting employer data in 2014,
The average annual pay difference between men and women has narrowed by A$1,322, but a gap of A$26,393 remains, the report said. The key driver of the lower gender pay gap is an increase in the proportion of women in management and in the upper pay quartiles. The proportion of women managers is now at 42 per cent, up from 41 per cent last year, according to the report. "Increased discussion and debate around gender equality, a tight labour market and impending legislative reform have helped drive action on workplace gender equality over the last year," WGEA chief executive officer Mary Wooldridge was quoted as saying in a news release.

The government on Saturday committed to establishing a new system to provide quarterly
updates on intimate partner homicides. Data is currently available on an annual basis from the NHMP, but Albanese said that in order to end violence against women, authorities needed to be able to measure it accurately. In a statement, minister for women Katy Gallagher and Amanda Rishworth, the minister for social services, said the new system would support law enforcement, policymakers, and the domestic and sexual violence sector in developing priority responses. "Up-to-date and accurate data is crucial to supporting us in our efforts to end this violence and ensure women's safety," Gallagher said. As of May, the government had invested 2.28 billion Australian dollars (1.5 billion U.S. dollars) in its National Plan to End Violence against Women and Children 2022-2032.

‘Haaretz’ exposes those truths that Israeli society brushes under the carpet the political price of this situation that Israel will have to pay.
New Delhi, Nov 26 (IANS) Zionist parties may be dominating the political landscape of Israel, but Haaretz, a newspaper founded in 1919 and known for its liberal stance on Israel’s domestic and foreign affairs, has been consistently exposing the hypocrisy of the global Left with regard to the country at the eye of the international storm. While voicing concern for the people of Gaza has been conspicuously delinked from the scale and intensity of the activities of Hamas and its accomplices, in the light of Israel's poor preparedness for surprises, failure in policy and deployment of defensive forces compounded by lack of relevant intel, its conception and hold over Gaza appear to have collapsed. When Israel was deliberating over increasing permitted labourers from Gaza in its territory and claimed that Hamas is deterred by Israel given its presumed hold over it, thousands of Hamas fighters prepared for the October 7 surprise attack in silence and secrecy for months. However, the devastating commemoration of October 7, when Hamas launched an attack and Israel declared war, appears to have fallen dim on the conscience of the world; but besides the massive humanitarian crisis that seems to have no end in sight, questions loom large about

Experts believe that while the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) concentrated forces in the south, the possibility of a multi-arena war which will include the West Bank, East Jerusalem and even Hezbollah and extremist elements among Israeli Arabs is not out of the question, especially when Hezbollah is biding its time. Haaretz senior columnist Anshel Pfeffer, who was among the first journalists to be embedded with forces in the Israeli army’s ground operation in Gaza, spoke of the “many convenient but very inaccurate comparisons” between the Israel-Gaza situation and the Russia-Ukraine war. Israel operates differently in Gaza, in the sense that IDF soldiers swung in more motivated than ever after October 7. “Many of them know people who were killed, who were taken hostage, or wounded. Some of them are from families which have been forced to leave their homes because of the war. It’s very personal for everybody. There's no question about it,” he said. Acknowledging that on-ground soldiers are “very focused on their mission,” Pfeffer pointed out that “when you go up the IDF hierarchy to the top, there is a growing sense of frustration that there is no clear strategic idea of the next stage” after Israel destroys Hamas’ military capabilities and topples the regime. “There is no real guidance or strategic idea of any kind coming
over from this government, because this government is dysfunctional and has too many radical, far-right elements in it that refuse to even contemplate some type of Palestinian control of Gaza. And that is both frustrating for the generals planning this war, and also very damaging to Israel,” Pfeffer said. On the other hand, with respect to the mighty US, the stand of which is crucial in the compounding situation in the Israel region, “There does not appear to be a clear endgame from the Biden administration,” said Trita Parsi of Quincy Institute, a think tank promoting diplomacy.
Kim Jong-un votes in local elections The KCNA said Kim met with the candidates and encouraged them to become "genuine representatives and true servants for the people who strive to defend and realize their rights, interests and requirements". Seoul, Nov 27 (IANS) North Korean leader Kim Jong-un cast his ballot in local elections held over the weekend to pick new deputies for local assemblies of provinces, cities and counties across the nation, with voter turnout recorded at almost 100 per cent, state media reported Monday. Kim visited a polling station set up in South Hamgyong Province on Sunday and voted for candidates who ran in the elections in the region, according to the North's official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA). North Korea's local elections are held every four years, and the number of seats is determined by the population of each area. But the elections are widely viewed as a formality, as the candidates are hand-picked by the North's ruling Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) and rubberstamped into office, reports Yonhap News Agency.
North Korea has revised an election law in a way that allows two candidates to be recommended in some constituencies for local elections and holds a preliminary election to decide on a final candidate. At polling stations, North Korea set up two separate ballot boxes of different colours -- one for approval and the other for disapproval -- a move that hampers the principle of secret voting as it is easy to see whether people vote for or against, Seoul's Unification Ministry said.
India was the only country that did not jump on to the bandwagon and stuck to its balanced approach of also condemning terrorism that led to the war.
However, Haaretz finds itself at the receiving end as Israel's Communications Minister Shlomo Karhi proposed to act against the daily by ending publication of government notices in it.

New Delhi, Nov 26 (IANS) India appears to have emerged as a minority of one in the BRICS group's stand on the IsraelHamas war with South Africa as the chair taking the lead in mounting a vociferous attack on Israel.
This proposal was submitted without the due process of being vetted by the ministry's legal adviser, and it seeks to immediately halt all payments to Haaretz from state entities in his purview.

South Africa has also referred Israel to the International Criminal Court while the country’s parliament voted to shut down the Israeli embassy. Israel, on its part, has recalled its ambassador from South Africa. China, Russia and Brazil also voiced their criticism of Israel although they did not come out as
Prime Minister Narendra Modi skipped the BRICS “extraordinary meeting” and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar attended on his behalf, which perhaps was a signal that India would toe its own line on the issue. India earlier abstained from a U.N. General Assembly resolution calling for a humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza, arguing that the text did not condemn Hamas. In his speech at the conference, China’s President Xi Jinping called for a cease-fire and an end to what he called collective punishment by Israel to the people in Gaza. He said the international community should take steps to stop the war from spreading. China had last month vetoed a United Nations Security Council resolution that stated that Israel had the right to defend itself. Russian President Vladimir Putin in his address said there was a “humanitarian catastrophe” unfolding in Gaza and blamed the crisis on what he called the USA’s failed diplomacy.

Nairobi-born British Indian debutante novelist Chetna Maroo in race for Booker Arundhati Roy (1997), Kiran Desai (2006), Aravind Adiga (2008), and Gitanjali Shree (2022, International Booker Prize). Maroo is in the fray with her debut novel, "Western Lane" (Picador), which she says took her three years to write and "sees the world through the eyes of 11-yearold Gopi".
London, Nov 27 (IANS) Nairobiborn Chetna Maroo, who is of Indian origin and a resident of London, is one of the six novelists shortlisted for the prestigious Booker Prize, whose winner will be named at a glittering ceremony in East London on Sunday, 9 p.m. GMT (Monday, 2:30 a.m. IST). Since its inception in 1969, the 50,000 pound prize has been won by six writers of Indian descent. They are V.S. Naipaul (1971), Salman Rushdie (1981, plus the Booker of Bookers in 1993 and Best of Bookers in 2008),
"She and her sisters have recently lost their mother," says Maroo, quoted in the Booker Prize website. "Their Pa is bereft and struggling to parent his daughters. At the same time, the girls' aunt and uncle watch the family, hoping to help Pa by taking one of the girls to raise as their own." Looking back to her writing experience, Maroo says: "As I was writing, I was feeling my way. I didn't have a plot or outline for the whole novel, but I had a sense that the story would turn on this one question: Would Pa bring himself to let one of his daughters

I usually try to get each sentence and paragraph sounding right before I go on, reading and editing from the beginning of the story. "My own process seems unwise to me because I know I'll eventually cut sections that I have spent weeks or months going over, but I have no other way. I have to trust that the work will benefit in the end from the rhythm and slow quality of this attention." The other contenders for the Booker Prize are Canadian writer and scholar Sarah Bernstein ("Study for Obedience"), the other debutant on the list, Jonathan Escoffery ("If I Survive You"), the American Professor of English Paul Harding ("This Other Eden"), acclaimed Irish novelist Paul Lynch ("Prophet Song"), and Paul Murray ("The Bee Sting"), who's also an Irishman.

United Nations, Nov 29 (IANS) At the UN General Assembly meeting on Palestine, India condemned both the terrorism with hostagetaking by Hamas and the “largescale loss of civilian lives” in Israel’s retaliation, but did not directly name either of them. While expressing support for a Two-State Solution for Palestine and humanitarian assistance to it, India’s Permanent Representative Ruchira Kamboj said on Tuesday: “The immediate trigger (for the crisis) was the terror attacks in Israel on October 7, which were shocking and deserve our unequivocal condemnation. There can be no justifications for terrorism and hostage-taking. “India has a zero-tolerance approach to terrorism." On the crisis that spiralled with Israel’s retaliation, Kamboj said: “We are gathered today at a time when the security situation in the Middle East is deteriorating due to the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict, with large-scale loss of civilian lives, especially women and children and an alarming humanitarian crisis. “This is clearly unacceptable and we have strongly condemned the death of civilians." After intense diplomatic efforts by the UN and Qatar, Israel agreed to a four-day truce that began on November 24 and was extended for two more days on Tuesday, allowing more relief supplies into Gaza, while Hamas consented to free some hostages taken during the October 7 attack. Kamboj welcomed the humanitarian pause in the Hamas-Israel conflict and the release of some hostages and called for the release of those still remaining. “The humanitarian pauses is a welcome step to ensure timely and continuous delivery of humanitarian aid," she said. India has sent 70 tonnes of humanitarian aid including 16.5 tonnes of medicines and medical supplies to Gaza, she said. New Delhi abstained on an Assembly resolution last month calling for a humanitarian truce in the fighting “leading to a cessation of hostilities”, which was adopted with 121 votes, while supporting a failed amendment that sought to condemn terrorism. This was the first time that India did not vote for a resolution at the UN that was backed by Palestine and it raised speculation about New Delhi’s commitment to the Palestinian cause as it develops closer relations with Israel. Allaying any misgivings that India was moving away from the Palestine cause, Kamboj reiterated India’s support for it to emerge as an independent nation alongside Israel under what is
called the Two-State Solution.

“India has always supported a negotiated the Two-State Solution to the Israel-Palestine issue leading to the establishment of a sovereign, independent and viable state of Palestine living within secure and recognized borders, side-by-side in peace with Israel," Kamboj said. “Our long-standing relationship with the Palestinian people, based on deep-rooted historical and people-to-people ties, and our consistent support to the people of Palestine in their endeavour for statehood, peace and prosperity," she reaffirmed. India “will continue to support the Palestinian people through our bilateral development partnership” and “continue to send humanitarian assistance to the people of Palestine”, she added. Kamboj also hit out against Pakistan’s attempts at the UN to link the Palestine tissue to Kashmir. “With regret, it is necessary to address the unfortunate and gravely misleading statements made by a fellow delegate," she said without naming Pakistan. “Such a pattern of distortion and malice can only be met with our profound sympathy for the mindset that perpetuates these untruths." India, she said, will not waste the Assembly’s time by exercising its right of reply and remarked that New Delhi’s position can be seen in previous rights of reply. In those replies, India has reiterated that Kashmir is an irrevocable part of India and that the people of the union territory have through their votes affirmed its accession to India.

Seoul, Nov 30 (IANS) South Korea's largest Buddhist sect, the Jogye Order on Thursday said that a former leader immolated himself after he was found dead in a temple fire a day earlier. "Ven. Jaseung left a warning to all Buddhists with his selfimmolation, praying for the stability of the religious group and the salvation of the world through the dissemination of the Dharma," Yonhap News Agency quoted Ven. Wubong, the spokesman for the Jogye Order, as saying at a press briefing. Self-immolation is a Buddhist practice of burning oneself alive as an offering to Buddha. He announced the former head passed away at age 69 in a fire that erupted at Chiljang Temple in Anseong, Gyeonggi province, at about 6.50 p.m. Wednesday.
His body was found at a dormitory for monks in the temple, where he was staying alone. The police discovered notes apparently written for the temple's chief priest in Jaseung's car parked nearby. They read: "I'm sorry for causing a lot of troubles by ending my life here. ... This building will be restored by my disciples, and I'm both sorry and grateful." The police say they will analyse all closed-circuit TV footage inside the temple to determine the exact cause of the fire. The Jogye Order said it will hold a five-day funeral led by its current leader Ven. Jinwoo at Jogye Temple situated in downtown Seoul. Born in 1954, Ven. Jaseung became a Buddhist monk at age 19 and served as the president of the Jogye Order from 2009 to 2017.

The evolving trends in global terrorism
Resilience of ODI Cricket in the T20 era The recently concluded World Cup 2023, the final installment of the ICC’s event cycle spanning from 2015 to 2023, has been hailed as a resounding success. Media rights, sold nine years ago, proved lucrative as market expenditures surged, benefitting both the ICC and broadcasters. Despite India’s home team facing defeat in the final on November 19 in Ahmedabad, the world witnessed jam-packed stadiums and record-breaking viewership. As the ICC initially confronted challenges such as the shifting narrative due to T20 explosion, the identity crisis facing ODI cricket, and the non-inclusive ten-team tournament’s unprecedented turnouts, both in stadiums and on air. This calls for an assessment of where ODI cricket stands vis-à-vis T20, its later version. ODI cricket, considered the middle ground between Test and T20 formats, has faced its fair share of challenges with the rise of the T20 format. The fast-paced, entertaining nature of T20 cricket has captured the attention of fans worldwide, leading some to question the future of the 50-over game. However, there are several reasons why ODI cricket is likely to endure the onslaught of T20 cricket. ODI cricket has a rich history that spans over five decades. It has been witness to iconic moments, legendary players, and historic matches. The World Cups, held every four years, are pinnacle events that showcase the enduring appeal of ODI cricket. The tradition and legacy associated with the format contribute to its continued significance in the cricketing world. While T20 cricket is celebrated for its explosive batting and quick outcomes, ODI cricket offers a more balanced and strategic experience. Teams must carefully manage resources, balancing aggressive and defensive play throughout the innings. This strategic complexity sets ODI cricket apart and appeals to fans who appreciate the nuances of the game. ODI cricket serves as a crucial platform for players to develop and showcase their skills in a format that demands both patience and aggression. The 50-over format acts as a bridge between the precision required in Test cricket and the explosive flair of T20 cricket, allowing players to refine their abilities across all facets of the game. ODI cricket remains a cornerstone of international cricket, with bilateral series and

global tournaments providing a consistent calendar of highstakes matches. The ICC Cricket World Cup, in particular, attracts global attention and fosters intense rivalries among nations. The significance of these competitions ensures that ODI cricket maintains its relevance on the international stage. The longer duration of ODIs allows for sustained viewer engagement, making it an attractive proposition for broadcasters and sponsors. The format provides ample opportunities for advertising, creating revenue streams that contribute to the financial wellbeing of the sport. The balance between entertainment and strategic depth in ODI cricket appeals to a broad audience, ensuring a steady following. Significantly, if we talk about the just-concluded World Cup, a statement has been made and that is, regardless of the format, the Indian team’s dream run drew massive crowds, showcasing the sport’s universal appeal. The total spectator count surpassed a million, not only for India’s matches but also for non-India fixtures. Opinions differ, though. While commentator and MCC president Mark Nicholas deems bilateral ODIs outdated, cricket legends like Viv Richards, Aravinda de Silva and Sachin Tendulkar passionately support the format. Aravinda de Silva, the Sri Lankan legend and the latest inductee into the ICC Hall of Fame describes ODIs as a blend of T20’s power and fast pace, along with Test cricket’s stamina and strategy. Contrary to the perceptions that ODIs are losing their allure, many argue that a full 50-over tournament remains fulfilling after the T20 overdose. The survival of bilateral ODI cricket faces uncertainty amid the proliferation of T20 leagues worldwide. Suggestions for change, including reducing powerplay duration and adapting ODIs into 40-40 cricket, abound. Former cricketer and coach Ravi Shastri, well-versed in market economics, proposed this change before the World Cup. Interestingly, in the wake of Australia’s historic victory over India on November 19, Pat Cummins expressed euphoria, revealing how this Cricket World Cup had rekindled his love for ODI cricket. The numbers, at least, suggest that he was not alone in his sentiment. While T20 cricket has undoubtedly injected excitement and dynamism into the cricketing landscape, ODI cricket’s enduring qualities make it well-equipped to withstand the challenges posed by its shorter counterpart.
EDITORIAL
By Rabindra Mukherjee The landscape of global terrorism is evolving, presenting new challenges and dimensions that call for a comprehensive understanding. As we navigate the complex web of geopolitical dynamics, technological advancements, and ideological shifts, it becomes vitally important to analyze the emerging dimensions of terrorism that shape the contemporary world. The recent Hamas attack over Israel is an instance of how terrorist groups have become potent enough to take on the might of even stronger nations. This necessitates a lot of self-introspection for all nations as they, through their enmity against one another, create an environment that allows for global terrorist groups to emerge and thrive, and pose a threat to international order. There is perhaps no country in the world that has not had to suffer the consequences of state or non-state sponsored terrorism. Even powerful countries like the US, UK, France, Germany and the entire Europe in general, have had to tolerate terrorism of one kind or the other, with some of these countries having to bear the brunt more than the others. India has always been one of those countries which have had to deal with crossborder terrorism emanating from its neighbourhood. It is now interesting to see that Pakistan, which has hitherto encouraged terrorism in India and elsewhere, has now itself become a victim of terrorism. Terrorist groups have been found to play in the hands of different entities, leaving behind its original masters who formed these groups and trained their members. The situation becomes so complex over time that it becomes almost impossible to entangle terrorist groups and find out who their latest handlers are. This is a global phenomenon. However, there are some distinct dimensions of terrorism globally, which have evolved over time. These dimensions are sometimes difficult to discern, and appropriate actions cannot be planned in the absence of adequate information and intelligence sharing across nations of the world. This is more difficult when nations are involved in a nexus of state and non-state actors. India has seen that kind of nexus in its neighbourhood. Some of the evolving dimensions of global terrorism are important to be considered and studied in a bid to look for viable solutions. Technological terrorism
facebook.com/indianewsaustralia
With technology playing a very important role in all aspects of modern life, one prominent dimension is the rise of technological terrorism. As societies become more interconnected, terrorists exploit digital platforms for recruitment, propaganda, and communication. Cyber-attacks on critical infrastructure pose a significant threat, highlighting the need for enhanced cybersecurity measures globally. The use of drones for reconnaissance and even attacks has added a new layer to the traditional understanding of terrorism. Technological terrorism calls for a technological solution, but the real challenge is that as technological counterterrorism endeavours are made, terrorist groups have been found to be ahead of the states endeavouring to root them out in matters of adopting the latest technologies. These groups are funded by both state and nonstate actors, and they have access to the latest technologies, which makes endeavours to flush them out a far more difficult challenge than one originally expected. Hybrid warfare & statesponsored terrorism The blurred lines between state and non-state actors contribute to the complexity of global terrorism. State-sponsored terrorism, where governments support extremist groups for geopolitical objectives, is a concerning trend. The use of proxy wars, misinformation campaigns, and covert operations has become more prevalent, making it challenging to distinguish between state and non-state actors in the realm of terrorism. This complexity needs to be sorted out at the international level, among nations of the world. There is a need to understand that terrorism in itself is a phenomenon and a weapon that has the potential to threaten the entire world taking it very close to destruction. This is owing to the fact that global terrorism is so complex by nature that it becomes difficult to understand its roots once it unleashes its power. Ideological shifts & extremism The ideological landscape of terrorism is also undergoing transformations. While traditional ideologies based on religious extremism persist, new ideologies rooted in political grievances, nationalism, and anti-globalization sentiments are gaining traction. Understanding the diverse motivations behind acts of terrorism is crucial for developing effective counterterrorism strategies.
Ideologies have the tendency to lend a certain degree of purported legitimacy to terrorism and certain acts of terror. There are nations which call their support to terrorist groups in other countries as a support to military extremists. This playing with words does not in any way help in addressing core issues related to terrorism the ways in which it exists in the first place. Biological & chemical threats Emerging dimensions of global terrorism include the increasing risk of biological and chemical threats. Advances in biotechnology have made it easier for terrorist groups to acquire and deploy biological agents. This adds a layer of complexity to counterterrorism efforts, necessitating international cooperation in the realm of biosecurity. Climate change & resourcedriven conflicts The intersection of terrorism and environmental factors is an emerging concern. Climate change-induced resource scarcity, such as water and arable land, can contribute to conflicts that terrorist groups exploit. Addressing the root causes of environmental stressors becomes imperative to prevent the emergence of new breeding grounds for terrorism. Social media & online radicalization The role of social media in radicalization cannot be overstated. Online platforms serve as echo chambers where extremist ideologies flourish. The speed at which information spreads online poses a challenge for authorities to counteract radicalization effectively. Combating terrorism in the digital age requires innovative strategies to monitor and counter online recruitment efforts. Refugee crisis & terrorism The global refugee crisis adds another layer to the nexus of terrorism and geopolitics. Displaced populations are vulnerable to recruitment by extremist groups, while host countries face security challenges in managing potential; infiltration by terrorists. Addressing the root causes of displacement and implementing effective refugee policies are crucial components of a comprehensive counterterrorism approach. As the dimensions of global terrorism continue to evolve, a proactive and adaptive approach is essential. Collaborative efforts at the international level, incorporating diplomatic, military, and technological strategies, are imperative to address the multifaceted challenges posed by terrorism. Understanding the emerging dimensions provides a foundation for developing effective policies and responses that can mitigate the evolving threat of global terrorism.

SPECIAL FEATURES
Hamas will have to pay the price for Oct 7: Israeli politician Ruth Wasserman Lande Tel Aviv, Nov 24 (IANS) The Hamas leadership will have to pay the price for its unprecedented attack against Israel on October 7, says Ruth Wasserman Lande -- a former member of the Knesset (Parliament) and former advisor to late President Shimon Peres.
They cut the bodies of civilians who were attending the festival. The Hamas men attacked Israeli villages on the Gaza border and killed residents, burnt several others, and also cut open a pregnant woman and and killing her baby.
Lande, who is also co-chair of the Knesset caucus for the promotion of the Abraham Accords, made the remarks in an exclusive interview to IANS during which she spoke about the raging IsraelHamas war and the developments that are unfolding.
IANS: Israel has said that it would wipe out the top Hamas leadership and those who conspired and executed the October 7 massacre. Your comment?
Here are some excerpts from the interview. IANS: What actually happened on October 7? Do you feel that there was a gross intelligence failure? Ruth: On October 7 there was a failure and it will be examined after the war but not at the moment because the entire community is recruited to win a war which is very very unusual in Israeli history. It is one of the worst hits perpetrated on Israel and specifically on the civilians of Israel. Thousands of Hamas operatives came rushing in with heavy arms, including automatic rifles and RPGs, broke the fence between the Gaza Strip and Israel. Several youngsters were dancing at the Supernova festival. They killed hundreds of people at the festival and massacred hundreds of others else where.
Ruth: Yes this is what Israel has said. Hamas stated in its founding objective that its main aim is to kill every single Israeli. They have said this again and again shamelessly. The militants have also said that if given a chance, they would repeat the October 7 carnage again. Their ideology is to wipeout the entire state of Israel and to kill each and every single Jew across the world. Then they will kill all the ‘infidels’ who does not believe in the same ideology of Islam that the Hamas do. Why do I say this is that they have killed Muslims in Rahat ( a predominantly Arab Bedouin city in the Southern District of Israel) and nearby places in Gaza. One lady who was killed had a head scarf and was visibly identified as a Muslim. They have taken Gaza hostages from Israel to Gaza, which include children, elderly and women who are also
Bedouin and Muslims. This is why we have openly said that we will eliminate the top leadership of Hamas as otherwise they will again repeat October 7 and attack the country of Israel. IANS: Students of several top universities of the US are opposing Israel in this issue. Why do you feel is this happening? Ruth: A lot of the campuses for years have allowed antisemetic and anti-Israel rhetoric. A lot of Israel advocates had warned that if this was not contained and kept under supervision, hate speech will spiral out of control. If it was not dealt properly in campuses of several European countries and specifically the US, in the name of freedom of speech a lot of anti-semetic and antiZionist rhetoric was allowed to go by as it was freedom of speech. Israel doesn’t have a PR system unfortunately. The state of Qatar is funding the campus demonstrations and also the country of Iran with its imperialistic ideas to control the world. Israel is the first step and the ultimate goal is the free world and the free world order and to bring in a rule that is what is practiced by Hamas and Iran. Many Muslims in the world know that this has nothing to do with Islam but Qatar and Iran are funding these demonstrations in campuses to create an
environment supportive of their movements. IANS: The world has taken a position in the war. Do you feel that Israel can overcome this in the days to come? Ruth: Israelis are very resilient people. The Jews have for centuries undergone severe prosecution including pogroms, the Holocaust and terrible other things. We will overcome as we are a resilient people and God is with us and we have no choice as it is an existential fight. We had never entered Gaza, and quite frankly, a vast majority of the people of Israel -- the right wing and left wing -- were shocked, even those who knew that Hamas was terrible and would not agree for anything peaceful as they never ever thought in their worst nightmare that such a barbaric thing as October 7 would happen to their brethren. This is a realisation that our children, our women and our elderly should never again be exposed to such a thing again. IANS: As a former member of the Knesset and a former advisor to late President Peres, what you feel the Israel government should do now? Ruth: I want us to stay united and we should bring all our hostages back home. This
includes Jewish people, Muslim hostages, children, women and elderly. Second thing is to finish the Hamas capabalities and their leadership. Then we have to develop the area with the social rehabilitation. There should be a civilian and logistic effort along with a military effort to make sure that no terrorist raises its head again in the Strip. The education system has to be changed. The teachers are chosen by UNRWA which is a UN body and lot of European funds are pumped here and the same educational system is followed in the Palestinian Authority and this system of education has to be changed. This education has to be stopped otherwise the military effort will come to a naught. IANS: Will the war effect the economy of Israel? Ruth: Of course... Any war will affect the economy of a country. However the Hamas could not break us, instead we became united. The people of Israel, from north to south got united. The elderly, the women and children are united now. We are a single people and we have this resilience. People don’t have much money but they support each other and farmers are being given support and thus we will overcome the present crisis and will come out with huge positivities.
78% Jews believe Israel will be victorious in war against Hamas: Survey Tel Aviv, Nov 24 (IANS) At least 78 per cent Jews believe that Israeli will be victorious in its war with the Hamas militant group, a survey conducted by a think tank revealed. Among almost all the respondents, the need for Israel to emerge victorious is emphasised, even if victory requires unintentional harm to innocent civilians. Participants of the survey conducted by the Jewish People Policy Institute ( JPPI) said that priority should be given to overthrowing Hamas as the main goal of the war, while only 14 per cent see the return of hostages as the key focus. One-third of Jews want control over Gaza at the end of war, while one-quarter want to re-establish settlements in Gush Katif area. A vast majority of Israeli Jews believe fear of attack against Jews abroad should not affect war plans (90 per cent) . The survey also found that trust in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) commanders were very high (86 per cent) , but the level of trust in Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu dipped to 30 per cent. On the question of what is the main achievement that would define victory, the response that received the highest percentage was "if Gaza is no longer under www.indianews.com.au

dependent on the goodwill of others for our security."
About a quarter of respondents (25 per cent) chose the answer "if residents of the border area feel safe to return to their homes - we have won", and 14 per cent said "if the hostages return home - we have won".
Out of six options presented to the respondents about what would happen in Gaza after the war, about 45 per cent of the respondents chose Palestinian rule in Gaza, provided that Israel would be responsible for security, or that Gaza would be demilitarised.
There were noticeable differences in the responses based on political affiliation. Voters from coalition parties clearly favoured ending Hamas rule as the key to victory, while among voters from opposition, the preferences were more evenly balanced between the options presented. Among the coalition voters, almost half of the respondents (44 per cent) chose the option that includes a return to Gush Katif, and about 60 per cent chose the option of full Israeli control. In contrast, among the opposition voters, only 9 per cent chose the option of full Israeli control of the Strip. JPPI Vice President Shuki Friedman said: "While the fighting in Gaza is not over, Israelis are already thinking about its end. Among the political considerations guiding Israeli decision-makers, the most important thing is to ensure that Hamas does not continue to exist and that we are no longer
Of these, a relatively small proportion (12 per cent) chose the rule of the Palestinian Authority, and a larger proportion expressed a preference for a Palestinian government that is not Hamas or the Palestinian Authority (21 per cent). The level of trust in IDF commanders (quite high and very high) rose from 75 per cent in the survey conducted in mid-October to 86 per cent in the survey conducted after mid-November. The level of trust in the Prime Minister decreased from 32 per cent to 30 per cent, and the level of trust in the emergency government remained unchanged (43 per cent). However overall, there is a decrease in the level of concern among respondents regarding the security situation. While in mid-October, a few days after the Hamas attack, 42 oper centf the Jewish public said they were "very concerned" about the

security situation, this month the figure decreased significantly to 27 per cent.
that the goal of the IDF should be "to win while making an effort not to harm innocent civilians".
The total number of concerned individuals (very concerned and moderately concerned) decreased from 84 per cent to 74 per cent, with the more noticeable decrease in concern among voters of coalition parties.
In contrast, among religious groups, there is a tendency to respond "to win and it doesn't matter how" (47 per cent among religious respondents) or even "to win and seek revenge, including causing harm to as many Gaza residents as possible" (20 per cent among religious respondents).
There is also a noticeable increase in optimism compared to the previous month when respondents were asked, "are you optimistic or pessimistic about the future of the State of Israel?" The percentage of respondents who answered "very optimistic" increased from 35 per cent to 43 per cent. The change is similar among voters from both the coalition and opposition. Prof. Yedidia Stern, president of JPPI said: "The aggressive military posture in Gaza is changing the national mood. Israelis are still worried about the security situation - but considerably less. The severe pessimism we experienced following the Hamas attack is also easing." Interestingly there is a noticeable gap between different groups regarding the willingness to cause harm to uninvolved Gaza civilians.
The percentage of Jewish Israelis who agree with the goal of "not to harm innocent civilians, even at the cost of a less clear victory" is very low. Fear of harming Jews abroad should not affect war plans. In recent weeks, the war in Gaza has manifested itself in a significant increase in anti-Semitic statements on the networks, in calls against Jews in various parts of the world, in attacks by Jews - and the Jews themselves express, including, recently, in a JPPI survey among American Jews, a growing anxiety about the strength of anti-Semitism. In light of this, the institute's questionnaire in November included a question concerning the manner in which Israel should behave.
Among the secular respondents, the majority (62 per cent) believe

How could the Hindenburg report on Adani group be treated as ‘credible’, SC questions Prashant Bhushan
New Delhi, Nov 24 (IANS) The Supreme Court on Friday asked advocate Prashant Bhushan as to how the apex court could treat the Hindenburg report on Adani Group of companies as "credible". CJI DY Chandrachud, who headed the 3-judge bench hearing the pleas pertaining to the AdaniHindenburg controversy, said that the top court will have to rely on "our investigative agencies" as Bhushan raised questions on credibility of investigations undertaken by the SEBI in the matter. "Where is the material before us to doubt the SEBI’s investigation. The SEBI is a statutory body entrusted to investigate stock market violations. At this, CJI Chandrachud said: "Mr Bhushan, they (SEBI) have completed the investigation. They are saying that now it's in their quasi judicial power. Should SEBI disclose the investigation before they issue a notice of show cause?"
"Now, what is SEBI intending to do to protect this kind of volatility due to short selling which leads to a loss of investor value," the CJIled bench asked Mehta.
The SEBI could not "precharge" guilt without giving an opportunity of hearing to entities under investigation, he added. During the hearing, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the SEBI, said that the market regulator is not seeking any extension of time and 22 out of 24 investigations have already been finalised. In relation to the remaining two cases, he said that the reports are interim in nature and the SEBI has sought information from foreign agencies and has no "control on time limit". “We do this regularly throughout the year but this Saturday is a great opportunity to do a big clean out ahead of Christmas. “While you’re pulling the Christmas tree out of the garage or shed, why not have a clear out and get rid of the hazardous waste you’ve collected over the year. “Hazardous waste can include everyday items including pool and garden chemicals, paint,

disposed of correctly it can lead to explosions and fires in bins or collection vehicles, putting our environment and the wider community at risk. “This will be our fourth and final free drop-off day for this year, but our facilities are open 365 days of the year for anyone who can’t make Saturday’s drop-off.” Cr Schrinner said this was just one of the initiatives in Council’s $80 million cost of living relief program. “Residents can also get a green waste bin for less than $1 each week, visit a Council pool for just $2 during summer and receive generous rebates on compost equipment and worm farms.” he said.

Reflecting on Bhartiya Samaj’s services on its first Brisbane anniversary Brisbane, Australia India News Newsdesk The Annual General Meeting of Bhartiya Samaj in Brisbane was held recently. Year 2023 marks its first anniversary in Brisbane and 28th year of operations. It is a time to reflect on some of the exemplary works it has done so far. Bhartiya Samaj continues to make a positive difference in the lives of diverse communities in Australia and New Zealand. Bhartiya Samaj started with its mission in 1995, to assist people in their times of need. Today, it has almost completed three decades in the service. The organization has expanded to not only help people in times of need, but also work towards creating happier
communities in New Zealand and Australia. With the help of its volunteers, members, and community, Bhartiya Samaj has been demonstrating resilience and excellence. It has been efficiently delivering support services for migrants, senior citizens, children, and youth. In a period of considerable economic challenge, rising cost of living and climate challenges leading people to acute distress, Bhartiya Samaj’s role becomes more significant. Despite facing multiple challenges with ever increasing demand for the services, increased costs, and a decline in community funding, Bhartiya Samaj has often demonstrated their capacity to make a difference.
Bhartiya Samaj will keep supporting the new migrants in their settlement journey to Australia. During Auckland Anniversary Floods early this year, Bhartiya Samaj Charitable Trust in Auckland worked relentlessly to deliver essential items to flood affected families. Bhartiya Samaj Auckland team had put to work a dedicated team of volunteers as soon as floods struck Auckland. The volunteers regularly visited emergency management centres and identified the needs of flood victims. Bhartiya Samaj supplied food, medicines and other essential items at all emergency management centres for weeks. Bhartiya Samaj is also supporting several victims of elder abuse
and domestic violence, with expertise of organizations like Roopa Aur Aap Charitable Trust. Several senior citizens, who faced abuse at the hands of their own family members, are provided with housing support. Providing houses to distressed seniors is probably one of the most significant achievements of Bhartiya Samaj. Another great accomplishment this year is the roll out of digital classes for seniors in NZ. Bhartiya Samaj in NZ are helping many seniors become independent to use technology and digital tools. These classes also spread awareness about cyber bullying and online frauds. Bhartiya Samaj has always catered to
people of all ages, from zero to zero. Therefore, its childcare programmes are equally important. Bal Vikas classes, conducted every Sunday, provide opportunities to Kiwi-Indian children to learn their mother language and Indian culture so they stay connected with their roots and take pride in their identities. Most importantly, Bhartiya Samaj has chapters in Auckland, Queenstown, Canterbury, Wellington, Manawatū, and of course its first Australian chapter in Brisbane. Its expansion helps in offering support to people irrespective of their geographical location.

Webb spots never-before-seen features in heart of Milky Way infrared-dark cloud. At the heart of this young cluster is a previously known, massive protostar over 30 times the mass of our sun.
New York, Nov 21 (IANS) The next-generation James Webb Space Telescope has in a new image captured a portion of the dense centre of our galaxy in unprecedented detail, including never-before-seen features astronomers have yet to explain. The star-forming region, named Sagittarius C (Sgr C), is about 300 light-years from the Milky Way's central supermassive black hole, Sagittarius A. "There's never been any infrared data on this region with the level of resolution and sensitivity we get with Webb, so we are seeing lots of features here for the first time," said principal investigator Samuel Crowe, an undergraduate student at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. "Webb reveals an incredible amount of detail, allowing us to study star formation in this sort of environment in a way that wasn't possible previously. "The galactic centre is the most extreme environment in our Milky Way galaxy, where current theories of star formation can be put to their most rigorous test," added Professor Jonathan Tan, from the University of Virginia. Amid the estimated 500,000 stars in the image is a cluster of protostars -- stars that are still forming and gaining mass -- producing outflows that glow like a bonfire in the midst of an
The cloud the protostars are emerging from is so dense that the light from stars behind it cannot reach Webb, making it appear less crowded when it is one of the most densely packed areas of the image. Smaller infrared-dark clouds dot the image, looking like holes in the starfield. That's where future stars are forming. Webb's NIRCam (Near-Infrared Camera) instrument also captured largescale emission from ionised hydrogen surrounding the lower side of the dark cloud, shown cyan-coloured in the image. Typically, Crowe said, this is the result of energetic photons being emitted by young massive stars, but the vast extent of the region shown by Webb is something of a surprise that bears further investigation. Another feature of the region that Crowe plans to examine further is the needle-like structures in the ionised hydrogen, which appear oriented chaotically in many directions. "The galactic centre is a crowded, tumultuous place. There are turbulent, magnetised gas clouds that are forming stars, which then impact the surrounding gas with their outflowing winds, jets, and radiation," said Ruben Fedriani, a co-investigator of the project at the Instituto Astrofisica de Andalucia in Spain.

Delhi Hospital Horror: ‘Fake’ doctors were performing operations on ‘outdated’ table, reveals probe Agarwal (formerly an assistant), Mahender (ex-lab technician), and Dr. Jaspreet (MBBS, MS), based on "sufficient evidence" of planned surgeries by unqualified individuals. "Neeraj, his wife Pooja and Mahender custody have been extended for five days," said the DCP. New Delhi, Nov 22 (IANS) Investigators have made shocking revelations about the south Delhibased Agarwal Medical Centre, where surgeries were allegedly being performed without any valid permission by fake doctors. Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Chandan Chowdhary told IANS that the operation table being used in the hospital was "second hand and outdated". According to police, eight people died during or after surgery while one patient lost her uterus at the hospital. Chowdhary said that the police custody of three accused in Agarwal Medical Centre case has been extended for five days. Last week, the police had arrested Dr. Neeraj Agarwal, his wife Pooja
On October 10, 2022, a woman from Delhi's Sangam Vihar filed a complaint claiming that her husband underwent gallbladder stone removal surgery at Agarwal Medical Centre on September 19, 2022. However, just before the surgery we were told that due to some emergency Dr. Jaspreet Singh would not conduct the operation. It was done by Dr. Mahender Singh along with Dr. Neeraj Agarwal and Dr Pooja," the complainant said. Seven complaints were filed with the Delhi Medical Council against Agarwal Medical Centre for negligence leading to patient deaths. On October 27, 2023, another patient, Jai Narayan, died postsurgery. A Medical Board found deficiencies in the medical centre on November 1, 2023. Further investigations revealed that Dr. Neeraj Agarwal was "frequently producing fake documents". Police have also seized 414 prescription slips from the hospital that contained signatures of the doctors with considerable blank space being left at the top, and two registers containing details of patients whose abortions were conducted at the hospital. “Many banned medicines were recovered, as were many injections and expired surgical blades and original prescription slips of different patients,” the DCP added.
Lucknow, Nov 22 (IANS) Medical experts have said that excessive use of antibiotics, both in humans and animals, coupled with poor sanitation in hospitals, is making bacteria drug-resistant. This poses a serious threat that could result in more deaths than cancer by 2050, said experts. "The indiscriminate use of antibiotics, both by individuals for self-medication and by the livestock industry to promote animal growth, is contributing to the emergence of drug-resistant bacteria," said Amita Jain, head department of microbiology in King George's Medical University (KGMU). He highlighted the potential issues when antibiotics combine with blood, affecting individuals on a regular diet. Dr Sheetal Verma, joint organising secretary of MICROCON-2023 said: "Antibiotic-resistant bacteria are produced due to the unregulated use of antibiotics. In our country, these drugs are easily available over the counter, whether for human consumption or for use in poultry. Resistance is developed when certain patients do not respond to specific antibiotic therapy." Another area of concern highlighted by experts was hospital-acquired infections. According to Vimla Venkatesh, hospitals bear primary responsibility for ensuring that no patient becomes infected due to bacteria or viruses present in another patient admitted to the same ward or hospital.

New Delhi, Nov 21 (IANS) High haemoglobin levels can raise your risk of heart attack, stroke and blood clots, according to health experts. Known as polycythemia -- a condition where red cells increase in the human body due to abnormalities in the bone marrow. These excess cells thicken the blood, slowing its flow and can cause serious problems like blood clots. Other causes of polycythemia include smoking, diseases of the heart or lungs and living at high altitude for prolonged time periods. Haemoglobin levels of more than 16.5g/dL in males and 16g/dL in females is considered abnormal. High haemoglobin levels may be detected on routine blood tests and may not cause any symptoms. “High haemoglobin levels should not be ignored as it can increase the risk of blood clotting and can sometimes lead to dangerous conditions like stroke, heart attack and blood clots in legs and abdomen,” said Dr Rahul Bhargava, Principal Director of Hematology and Bone Marrow Transplant, Fortis Memorial Research Institute, Gurugram. “If high haemoglobin levels are detected on routine evaluation, a haematologist should be consulted for further evaluation. Secondary causes of polycythemia
Routine blood tests to detect haemoglobin levels include a peripheral smear, serum erythropoietin levels and JAK2 mutation study is necessary for routine evaluation. A bone marrow examination is also performed to determine the cause of polycythemia in selected cases. According to Dr. Neha Rastogi Panda, Senior Infectious Diseases Specialist at Fortis Memorial Research Institute, Gurugram, “High haemoglobin may also cause a variety of symptoms like frequent headaches, blurred vision, itching all over the body after a warm shower, painful and swollen joints”. “It can also cause major problems like stroke, heart attack, blood clot in legs etc. Smoking should be avoided as it increases the risk of blood clotting. Diabetes and high blood pressure should be controlled as they are independent risk factors for stroke and heart attack. Adequate oral fluid intake should be maintained,” she added. Treatment of polycythemia includes removing blood from the body -- a process called phlebotomy, blood thinners like aspirin which helps prevent blood clotting and medicines like hydroxyurea which helps stop bone marrow from producing increased cells.

Progressive Art Gallery exhibits rare works of five Indian modern masters Featuring Amrita Sher-Gil, Akbar Padamsee, Ganesh Pyne, Prabhakar Barwe, Jagdish Swaminathan

howcasing the rare and lesser-known aspects in the work of five celebrated artists Amrita Sher-Gil, Akbar Padamsee, Ganesh Pyne, Prabhakar Barwe, Jagdish Swaminathan, a significant group exhibition titled ‘Tales of Transcendence’, is running from November 16-19, 2023, at Mumbai’s first major art fair Art Mumbai. Hosted at Booth 51 of the fair by Progressive Art Gallery, the exhibit showcases the works of five iconic artists of India whose works reflected an Indian form of modernism. Included in the exhibition is a 1939 portrait of her husband Victor Egan, which may be her only portrait of him. Rendering an informal and sympathetic study of Victor Egan, it is a rare work,
returning to Western techniques in realism, as would be natural in such a portrait. As she died in 1941, this may have been SherGil’s last portrait. Jagdish Swaminathan's vibrant depictions of nature and indigenous art allow us to transcend the confines of the modern world. Four of his paintings in the series on ‘Bird, Mountain, Tree and Reflection’ find space in this exhibition — bearing witness to the phase in his artistic career when he introduces mountains or rocks in different hues of blues, beige and green, punctuated by the presence of a bird or a flower. Prabhakar Barwe, an Indian modern artist born in 1936, is celebrated for his distinctive style and deep introspection. The exhibition showcases his mixed media works, which are minimal abstractions. His art is a testament to the power of minimalism and the subtle, often overlooked nuances of existence. For Akbar Padamsee, another master abstractionist, viewers will see his ‘Metascapes, among other charcoal works, which are grandiose and sweeping in their vision. They transcend the
conventional representation of specific sites and geographical locations. Also on view are Ganesh Pyne's ethereal compositions, such as those depicting the Mahabharata character Abhimanyu, and figures such as a money lender, and a Baul singer. ‘Abhimanyu’, painted in the year 2000 in tempera, ranks among the finest compositions by Pyne in his mature style. His work transports us to a realm where the subconscious meets the tangible, encouraging us to reflect on the mysteries of existence. “As you explore ‘Tales of Transcendence’, you will bear witness to the remarkable journeys of these artists. Their works invite us to transcend
the limitations of the present and embark on a voyage of introspection and discovery. We hope this exhibition inspires you to contemplate the profound and appreciate the beauty in the world and ourselves,” said Dr. Geeti Sen, critic and curator of the exhibition. Calling the well-curated exhibition a celebration of the artistic brilliance of five extraordinary individuals, Progressive Art Gallery Director Harsh Vardhan Singh said, “This exhibition, aptly titled, takes you on a captivating journey through their works, each a tale of transcendence in its own right. Art, in its most profound form, is a medium through which artists transcend the boundaries of the ordinary and the expected. Through their creativity, these five remarkable artists have achieved precisely that – transcending the confines of convention and offering us a glimpse into the limitless expanse of human imagination and expression.”

The smaller the section you work with, the more manageable it is to style your hair. Those with fine hair should try larger sections to avoid over-drying and smaller sections will work wonders to smooth or define those with thick, coarse and curly hair. Serbian song ‘Moye Moye’ takes over social media, becomes catchphrase New Delhi, Nov 26 (IANS) With 2023 poised to be the hottest year ever recorded and the UN Secretary-General himself seeing and hearing from scientists how ice loss in Antarctica is accelerating in dangerous ways, 100 plus musicians and dancers from 18 countries come together with the message in a song: the global community demands climate action for a better earth. At the forthcoming two-week UN climate summit or COP28 hosted by the UAE in Dubai, they hope to meet course correction. Playing For Change has partnered with COP28 to bring together talents and voices from diverse corners of the globe, in the aweinspiring song, 'Waiting on the World to Change'.

Together we can change the world,” said Mark Johnson, Playing For Change cofounder. From India, Jas Ahluwalia was featured on tablas. With just four days to go, some critical insights about COP28 are: COP28 has the first Global Stocktake. reduce emissions, build climate resilience, and transform climate finance as a response to the Global Stocktake. COP28 is an inflection point, not a checkpoint, for climate action. Decisive moments require decisive leadership. COP28 will deliver an urgent call for decisive action to bridge critical gaps by 2030, setting a path to deliver the most ambitious response to the Global Stocktake. COP28 must set a new pathway by: fast tracking the energy transition, fixing climate finance, operationalizing the Loss and Damage Fund, as mandated, impact real lives through action on food, health, and nature, and leave a legacy to reduce emissions everywhere.
