Consul General hosts gala reception for India’s 78th Independence Day

The Consul General of India, Perth, Amarjeet Singh Takhi hosted a grand reception at the Indian Community Centre recently to celebrate the 78th Independence Day of India. The event was attended by a diverse group of dignitaries, including Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Western Australia Michelle Roberts MLA; Minister for Regional Development Don Punch MLA; Federal Parliament Members Sam Lim MP and Zaneta Mascarenhas MP; and several other prominent figures from the Western Australian government and community.

The reception featured memorable cultural performances that showcased India’s rich heritage. Highlights included a Ganesha Stuti in Bharatanatyam by Ghirija Jayarraj and Sneha Rajagopalam from Shastram, a dramatic enactment of excerpts from the Mahabharata by Jay Emmanuel, Isha Shravani, and Praashekh Borkar, and patriotic performances by students from the Academy of Indian Classical & Bollywood Dance and Gurukul WA.

A special exhibition by the ANJELMS Project was also organized on the occasion. The exhibition featured craft artisans from Tamil Nadu's community, and a display of paintings by diaspora artists expressing their love for Bharat.
