BR A N D N E W / The objective of this assignment was to redesign a new identity for an existing company complete with a brand guidelines book and application system. Zara is one of t he w orld’s largest appa rel retailers, but n e eded a n iconic logo to match the c onte m porary and cutting edge fashion it sells. Based on m od er n a rchitecture and clean lines the new logo showcases a serif ‘Z’ in negative form w hich can be repeated to make p atterns on m e rch a ndise as well as broken down into si m ple triangles that make the secondary graphics. The new logo along with s uppor ting secondary graphics were created to elevate Zara from a fast fashion retailer to a sophisticated and recognizable high-end fashion label.

N O S T A L G I C C O N N E C T I O N S / The objective of this assignment was to select a paper line and promote it with a specific concept in the form of a book and other deliverables. The paper line I chose was Connection by New Leaf Paper. M y concept is memory through the senses. We have all felt a sense of nostalgia at some point in our everyday life through our senses. Perfume, food or even a song can conjure up emotions and become an instant connection to our past. This book is a collection of personal photographs and thoughts and a reminder of random objects and a few places that have made me stop and momentarily reconnect with some very happy times I have had.

A S S I M P L E A S B L A C K A N D W H I T E / Lucca Deli is a fa mily o w ned delicatessen in the upscale Marina neigh borhood in San Francisco; it is stocked with specialty Italian grocery. In order to make the new branding for this well-established deli more cohesive, a very classic black and white packaging and identity system were created. The elegant and timeless design e mphasises the high quality products and services that Lucca Deli has provided it’s customers with since 1929.

C O M E T O G E T H E R / For this assignment we were asked to design a poster and other printed collateral as well as an iPad app for a music festival. Merge Music Festival, is an annual music event held in London. The festival is a merging of cultures, people and artists to support a cause and experience beautiful music. Proceeds from tickets and merchandise go toward promoting fair trade in developing countries. The kaleidoscopic imagery, bright colors and patterns, give the festival an inviting, energetic and global feeling. The visual elements were put together to reinforce what the festival is really about— unity.

A T T H E F O R E F R O N T / The aim of this assignment was to pick a typeface and create a type promotion and specimen book for it. The typeface I chose was Akzidenz Grotesk. At a time when serif typefaces were the norm, Akzidenz Grotesk had none, which made it unique. It was fitting for my book as the concept is impact, based on shock value and edgy fashion. Fascinated by the minds and work of avant-garde fashion designers, I wanted this book to be highly experimental. Scale differences in typography, combined with black and white collaged photography, are juxtaposed with images of modern architecture to show construction of shape and form, as a lot of avantgarde couture is ‘constructed’. Like avant-garde fashion, this book is a rebellion against ‘normal’. It is supposed to be unexpected and outlandish, without barriers and completely free.

BIG FIGURE / Dupont is an American chemical company which has brought innovative science and engineering to the global marketplace for more than 200 years. It serves diverse markets such as agriculture, nutrition, communications and safety. With so much vital and versatile information the aim was to create a concise annual report with ample photography, infographics and clean typography. These elements in the company’s colors, gray and red, were used to keep the book corporate but still hold the reader’s attention without making it dull and repetitive.

T H E D R E A M T E A M / The objective of this assignment was to create a comprehensive house of brands under the AERO name to compete at the price points of Williams Sonoma and Crate & Barrel, while developing branding strategies and creative design for all product lines. AERO’s strategy came from thinking about how working professionals behave in their own home. The branded house strategy aims to simplify the processes that are essential to the urban home, meeting the ‘needs’ of the consumer; while it’s stand alone brands address their wants, providing escape from the everyday. AERO’s stand alone brands incorporate elements of an alternative lifestyle, providing escape with rich details and craft, and push lifestyle choices and status with products that are not essential but highly desirable. At the same time they maintain a down to earth brand voice, covering categories of decadence, experience, relaxation and overall well being. Above all the AERO brand is progressive, personal and interactive, and seeks to fit into every part of the consumer’s home and lifestyle.
