Tell us a bit about the property and why Indigo’s showflat rental and styling services were needed?

The prestigious property asset management company has a unique property that offers the convenience of city living within a calm, lush, green environment. The development emphasizes low-density living, spacious homes and architectural integrity with a long history. Indigo has done several homes for this developer and has a proven track record of delivering beautiful show flats that inspire potential customers and help them imagine themselves living in that space. By ensuring we showcase the home’s strengths and features, we are able to help our client lease out their property faster and with a higher return on investment.

How long did the project take?

Once we start a project we ensure we get their floor plan first before arranging a site inspection and meeting to discuss what our client is looking for, their budget and timeline. Once this is confirmed, we prepare a mood board, list of products and quotation for their confirmation. After our client confirms, a project such as this one took only 2 days to deliver, install, style and set-up.

What was the design inspiration when it came to styling this property?

Our goal was to create a ‘beachside luxe’ feel for this home in order to showcase its elegant interiors and accentuate the spectacular sea views nearby. We selected exclusive highend furniture with sophisticated brass detailing and paired it with layers of soft furnishings to add warmth and depth to the rooms.

Why should property developers and landlords stage homes and have showflats?

What are the benefits?

According to our clients’ feedback, the closing rate of the property is significantly higher with a home staging service, especially when the property is below 300 sq. ft or over 1,500 sq. ft. For units that are below 300 sq. ft, a showflat can help to show a potential buyer how they can fully utilize their living spaces be it through smartly placed furniture or furniture pieces that offer maximum storage and space saving options. For units over 1,500 sq. ft, home staging can help potential buyers fully visualise their refurbishment plan and where and how to place certain pieces, be it a sofa, artwork or how to decorate a hallway correctly.

Authentic craftmanship has been applied to refine these rustic, natural materials to create beautiful, soothing, laid back furniture pieces.

Textured, tactile, woven rattan is complemented by natural solid ash wood to create a sense of harmony and strength to the room, whilst the raised, brass legs emphasise a feeling of lightness and space.

Working from home has become an ongoing reality for so many of us. As we adapt to what everyone calls the ‘new norm’ the temporary, makeshift offices that we started with last year are now transforming into dedicated home office spaces that encourage productivity, are equipped with functionality and don’t compromise on comfort or showing off your unique personality.

Unlike open offices, cubicles or shared desks working from home has allowed us to embrace our space. Throw in an extra pillow for comfort, spruce up your desk with an elegant leather desk organizer or brighten up your wall with some glam artwork. It’s the little, personal touches that make the difference and get you organized, stimulated and motivated to focus.

A Look At Leather Behind the Scenes with

You’ll find Carezza’s beautiful leather furniture pieces in Indigo’s collections such as the Brooklyn, Fergus and Matteo. Founded in Hong Kong in 2008, Carezza is a collaborative partnership of furniture makers and designers with a vision of bringing traditional British upholsterymaking techniques to retailers and customers around the world. Founders Alison Gay and Daniel FelthamWhite focus on design, quality and operational processes to provide effortless home solutions. We sit down with Co-founder, Daniel Feltham-White to learn more about what makes their leather unique and ask him for some inside tips on cleaning and how to pick the right leather piece for your home.

Why would you suggest a leather sofa over an upholstered one?

Real leather always makes a statement. It is aspirational and exudes quality. However, not all leathers suit every environment. Today there are many different options out there from pigmented leather, semianiline, nubuck and aniline to name but a few.

The finest leathers, pure anilines, are also the most delicate as they have had the least amount of processing, they are just naturally dyed and as such offer less protection for the rigours of daily life.

With all the different leathers out there, what would you recommend for a family?

If you have a family, or a busy home, would always suggest using a pigmented leather or a semi-aniline leather. Pigmented leathers are the most hard wearing, but often they are embossed and hard, and they lose the beautiful characteristics of a natural leather.

A semi-aniline, such as our Oxford Leather (which you’ll find on Indigo’s Brooklyn, Fergus and Matteo pieces) , give you the best of both worlds. Semi-aniline is durable and hard wearing enough to stand up to the tests of daily life, but the way in which we finish this particular leather means that we keep all the natural beauty and softness of a genuine leather.

Tell us a bit about the leather you use and what

makes it so unique?

We only use 100% top grain, cow leather from Italy. Today, finished leather is available from many different countries and the raw skins can come from many different sources.

The use of Buffalo hides, split leathers and even fake leathers (PU) is very common in manufacturing. This means that manufacturers can keep their production costs lower, but it doesn’t make the final quality of the product the same.

Genuine leather is aspirational, and we believe in using traditional manufacturing techniques, and using only the best quality raw materials we can.

We believe strongly in supporting the traditional artisan tanneries that have made Italy a world leader in producing the best quality leathers.

Where does Carezza source their leather from?

The raw material that we use is sourced all over the globe. Leathers from different countries all have different characteristics, and so when we are developing our leathers we look to match the best source of raw material to our planned finishing process, and the look and style of the leather we want to produce.

This means that all our leathers are unique.

Our tannery team are scouring the planet to find the best sources for our raw hides, which are then shipped back to our tannery in Italy for treatment and finishing. All our leathers are 100% Italian finished.

What is the best way to keep leather looking good and the best way to clean it if needed?

Genuine leather doesn’t really need any complicated wear and care maintenance programmes.

The most important thing is to have a weekly routine of dusting down your item of furniture and keeping it clean, and to keep your furniture out of harmful direct sunlight.

You can use a well wrung out clean cloth, to gently wipe the surface of your leather and remove any built up soiling – but remember to rub gently and not to have the cloth too wet. Any accidental spills must be blotted up quickly, and if in doubt always seek professional advice. indigo-living.com

Light is Right IT'S ALL IN THE DETAILS

Sometimes it’s the tiniest of details that make the biggest difference. While colour, furniture and theme can define your room and set your style, table lamps set the mood, act as task lighting whilst also being decorative.

Take into consideration your room’s look, where your lamp will be placed and the size of the surface it will sit on when choosing your light base. A large table and lamp will look overpowering in a small room and a large lamp on a small table can look out of proportion.

While they look contemporary, dramatic and attractive, only choose darker or non-transparent lampshades when accent lighting is more important than task lighting. Lighter shades give off more general ambient lighting and are also easier on the eyes.

Lastly, opt for energy efficient bulbs which not only help to reduce your carbon footprint but are also more cost efficient in the long run. When selecting an energy efficient bulb remember to bear in mind the brightness and temperature. For us, you can’t go wrong with a warm, yellow light to create that cosy, home ambience!

Meet The Maker Behind the Scenes with Provocateur Art, Jean-Pierre Brown

How and when did you start to work with Indigo Living?

We started producing decorative artworks for Indigo Living in 2012. Every season we develop new collections to complement the seasonal look the Indigo team puts in stores. The Indigo design team share looks, moodboards, colour palettes and very often very cool and specific concepts for us to interpret.

How does your creative process start? Where do you draw your inspiration from? From where do you draw your inspiration?

We work with clients all over the world and draw inspiration from everything we see and experience. Many of our clients are celebrated interior designers and architects who bring us in to complete the luxurious hotel, bar and restaurant projects they are working on. In each case we develop something new and exclusive. We draw from each of these experiences a better understanding of the latest interior trends and creative fashion.

What do you love about working in Bangkok?

Bangkok is a creative mecca in Asia. There are tons of resources for artists and designers, there is a deep talent pool, wonderful fine art, fashion and design institutes that proffer new ideas and creative thinkers every year. The art galleries here are fun and the scene is vibrant and super connected to all kinds of international trends. That and there is an incredible sense of freedom to do as one pleases – to create a work environment as one could only dream to imagine in most other big cities.

What is your favourite medium to work with and why?

What is your favourite piece and why?

You’ll have seen Jean-Pierre and his team’s stunning artwork featured season after season throughout Indigo’s home trends.

We took some time to sit down with him to find out how each of his intricately crafted masterpieces are created, inspired and the process behind each one.

Most of the art we specialize in has photography at its base. We are multi-disciplinary specialists – so we usually adapt/modify and re-interpret photographic source images to suit the project. Everything we do has a hand made element to it – so the source photo may get re-drawn by hand or painted over. We especially love decoupage, collage and adding gold leaf accents to our artworks.

This season one of my favourite artworks is Gold Jean Shrimpton prints. This is great because they are very sleek and luxurious variants on 1960’s celebrity based pop-art. And I love gold and silver.

How long does each piece take?

Each one of this items takes around 5 to 10 hours to make.

Indigo Living's Furniture Rental Expert Answers Your Questions

People rent living space, cars, even clothing and now leasing and renting furniture is seeing a resurgence in popularity. The sharing economy is constantly growing and, with it, the demand for rented furniture.

This trend is primarily driven by those not wanting to be tied down, unsure of when they’ll be moving countries, prefer to be eco-conscious and yet do not want to sacrifice their interior style.

Gloria Cheng our Indigo furniture specialist tells us more about this growing trend and all the benefits it brings.

How has covid-19 effected the rental market?

Renting furniture is continuing to gain popularity in the city, as it offers total flexibility. Shipment delays due to Covid-19 have seen a rise in short term leases, while expats await their furniture arriving, while others have needed to create a home work space but don’t want the upfront costs of kitting out a whole office space. Leasing allows them to have a temporary set up that works for them.

Has your furniture rental customer changed in 2020-2021?

We have seen an increase in millennials and young couples preferring to rent. For them it’s all about total flexibility and affordability. Most millennials are opting to rent their apartment and prefer practical, functional pieces that are on trend but given smaller spaces, there are limitations to what they can choose. Indigo’s new small apartment living collections offer them what they need without having to compromise on style or budget. Monthly leasing also makes it easier on their cashflow with the option to purchase the pieces at the end of their lease.

Which pieces of furniture do you rent out the most?

"Most of our clients will go for full house packages, including furniture, kitchenware, electronics and bedlinen. Most people prefer to furnish the whole apartment because it’s hassle-free; this way, their home is ready

to move into when they arrive. It’s one less worry when they’re planning their move, especially if they’re coming from overseas."

For how long do people normally rent, and why?

It really depends on each client’s individual needs. Some rent furniture and household items on a short-term basis – one month or more – and this is often while they wait for their shipments to arrive. Some clients will also rent beds from us on a short-term basis, if they have guests coming to stay, for example. Or they will rent dining chairs and dinnerware from us for parties. Some clients, meanwhile, go for long-term rentals; one year or more. Expats moving to Hong Kong from overseas will often rent in order to avoid finding that their furniture from home doesn’t fit in their new flat, or to prevent their furniture from being damaged in the shipping process. Landlords often come to us for furniture rentals for their tenants, because individual tenants tend to have such different requirements. Our long-term lease can run in compliance with apartment leases, too.

How much notice do you need?

How long does it take to go from someone picking the furniture and ordering it to delivery? We need as little as five working days’ notice. Of course, the earlier you inform us of your delivery and pick-up dates, the sooner we can check availability and reserve your chosen date and time. Our reservation system runs on a first come, first-reserve basis. We offer flexible leasing terms, lease extensions, maintenance services throughout your contract and we can set it all up so you feel at home the moment you walk through the door. All with no minimum monthly rental fee. We can easily work within your budget, and we have a comprehensive team on hand for support. Plus, we offer design consulting services to help you achieve your dream look. And lastly, if you really love your furniture at the end of your contract, we offer buy-back options.

For short-term rentals, all you need to do is:

• Sign the agreement.
