FROM THE

CHAIRPERSON’S DESK

FROM THE CHAIRPERSON’S DESK Pursuit of management education of Indira Group of Institute’s has been on inspiring journey. Being at the helm of endeavors of Indira I cannot help but imagine the possibilities the future holds for management education. The philosophy, governance and values of business are witnessing a sea change and plenty of its repercussions are already being witnessed across the globe. India cannot isolate itself from such dynamic global environment. This is the time to adopt the changes we perceive. Such dynamics should result in better professionalism, and the inherent strength of a competitive economy should become the sine qua non of our corporate existence. Quality being the bottom line for every industry, Indira has never lost sight of the fact that for India to forge ahead in its drive towards economic supremacy in the world, it is the quality of our people who drive it that matters most. And quality, as the cliché goes, is never an accident but an article of faith. The Indira Group has proven itself on this count and has no intention of resting on its laurels. We at Indira realise that quality is also a product of able leadership, which can provide the road map for the rest of the team to reach heights of achievement in their effort. It is therefore our commitment to industry to provide managers who are bound to be leaders of tomorrow fully imbibing the values of customer care, service, integrity and commitment to the cause they have espoused. The challenges of the global economy have not deterred us and at Indira we have redoubled our efforts to create just such managers ensuring that they are ready to take on the mantle for corporate India in its march towards growth and prosperity. Our faith in education and our vision to nurture the skills of business leaders of tomorrow has enabled us to hone our students drive for creativity and innovation. Our keen perception of the dynamics of change in management education has always geared us to offer courses and pedogogy relevant for contemporary business needs. With the confidence that our intentions have matched our efforts, I wish you the very best in the future. Dr. Tarita Shankar Chairperson Indira Group of Institutes

FROM THE

GROUP DIRECTOR’S DESK

FROM THE GROUP DIRECTOR’S DESK Dear Students, The ongoing slowdown in the Indian economy has affected the business climate within India. Growth rates of major sectors like Power, Retail and Technology and also experiencing the aftershocks of global recession. The accompanying woes viz. weakening rupee, stuck investments, rising inflation and interest rates are inevitably making the environment extremely competitive. However, as far as the immediate future is concerned, it is predicted that India is now on the way to recovery and will recover more rapidly than other countries. While leaders shape the organisation during times of economic growth, it is during crises that their true mettle is revealed. It is for special situations like an economic crisis, or challenges faced by the organisation itself, that we train talented leaders to take on the mantle and lead the corporate to rejuvenated growth and profits. The values of hard core integrity, adherence to positive values, exhibiting readiness to stand by the team at all times is what promotes the culture of loyalty to the leader. We ensure our students stand the test of leadership at all times. Using the learning tools and the pedogogy used in classrooms, we not only entrench domain knowledge but also emphasize the importance of integrating technology and social media for knowledge mobilization and running businesses successfully, while, at all times imbibing the qualities of leadership required for the modern manager to contribute to the corporate’s overall development and growth. Our strong network of the alumni spread all over the globe, holding leading positions in industry and academia alike, are a testimony to the Indira’s focus of nurturing individual intelligence and the pursuit of excellence. It is indeed a great pleasure to welcome you to Pune’s premier B-School – Indira Institute of Management. Prof. Chetan S Wakalkar Group Director Indira Group of Institutes

09

FROM THE

DIRECTOR’S DESK

FROM THE DIRECTOR’S DESK We all know that the current young generation is the largest the world has ever seen. They stand with lot of aspirations to be matched with what educationalists, like us, have to offer them. To me, quality education is the alchemy to human, social, and economic growth. Increasing equity and access to improved knowledge and skills is an answer to issues concerning sustainable development in the current scenario. With a mandate to provide regional and global leadership in education, Indira Institute of Management, Pune (IIMP) aims to upscale and support on - going efforts in improving quality of technical education and enhancing existing capacities to become vibrant and receptive to rapid economic and technological developments, occurring at national and international levels. From its inception in 1994, IIMP has been meeting the need of a constructive and creative initiator in addressing the present and future global challenges. Our Management, as policy makers have always mobilized for education and Alumni have brought pride and glory to their alma mater by their disciplined and masterly performance in the face of the new and newer challenges in 21st century. We staunchly believe that teachers are the most important and most powerful force to quality education. Thus, we have a galaxy of talented faculty members with rich and relevant industry experience to bring the board room battles in the classroom and shape the students to their full potential. We have also experts from reputed industrial houses and renowned academicians as visiting faculty. A vibrant industry interface through seminars, workshops, alumni interaction and industrial visits both in India and abroad helps students get a feel of the real business world before they actually take a plunge into it. It is with great energy, inventiveness and enthusiasm that we wish to lead you in bridging the gap between your aspirations and opportunities the world offers. We welcome you to the portals of IIMP and hope that you will very soon join the ranks of the thousands of students who have passed through the gates of this venerable institution and believed in the intellect the Institute has always provided. It provided a platform to the students to voice their concerns/ opinions and event management skills by planning and managing back - stage and production activities. The event culminated in a cultural program by the students of IIMP that included a dance performance, theater, songs and mixed blend of all students. CONVOCATION - 2015 Convocation marks the completion of an academic career and the beginning of a professional one, thence Indira group strives to make this last stint unforgettable and this year was no exception. Convocation of PGDM 2015 batch was organized on 13 February 2015 and students were awarded their degrees in a mesmerizing ceremony. The highlight of the event was the presence of honorable Union Minister of Roads, Shipping and Transport, Mr. Nitin Gadkari, as the Chief Guest, accompanied by the Guardian Minister of Pune, Mr. Girish Bapat. Mr. Girish Bapat recalled his first visit to the Indira Group on its inauguration in 1994 and congratulated Dr. Shankar for leading the organization to its present strength of over 10000 students in a short span. Laced with native wit and humour, and heavy with the wealth of his experience, Mr.Gadkari’s address was the stuff the students would cherish for years. He exhorted the students to learn the difference between literacy and education. Academic education does not confer the title of an honorable man, but when formal education is married to education from the school of life, with its myriad ways of teaching us the way to live, only then does a person attain the right to call himself truly educated. According to him Knowledge, Science and Technology will not be enough to take one far, you need to combine it with the qualities of entrepreneurship, innovation and vision of the future. His mantra for a good life – Be useful to people. Work for common Good. Enjoy life by the day. 25
