Editorial Dear reader
Dear Reader We have begun our post – vacation session with a renewal of our commitment to promote excellence, developing values and a sense of responsibility towards the environment. Various activities within and outside the school help our children explore their talent, develop new interests and acquire new skills. We hope to give students a strong armour of values and knowledge to help them make ethical and rational decisions. Our staff at INS are always willing to help students realize their potential. Students need to avail of various opportunities that come their way. I would like to end by saying that as parents and teachers we have to work together to make our children happy, positive and well – adjusted members of the society. Have a splashing good time this rainy season. The Celsius dives to make way for the monsoon. The bounty from the skies has left places drenched in relief and happiness. This is the time to explore the magic of monsoon. With the splatter of rain on window panes, gloomy grey skies and slushy outdoors, what better way to spend time indoors than by indulging in mouth watering snacks and a heavenly cup of hot chai. Curl up with a book and a cup of hot beverage and enjoy the lashing rains Rains have been always associated with some great music. Whether it’s classical music, Bollywood music or international music, the wonderful rains have always been able to weave musical magic. So, sit down and listen to music even as raindrops keep falling down. Let the music flow. Don’t want to be indoors, then it’s time for some monsoon masti. Throw caution to the winds. Feel the raindrops on your cheek and enjoy a walk and dance in the rains with your friends. Nothing can match the joy of soaking in the rains. It will keep the blues away A good weekend idea is to spend a couple of days amidst nature. The picturesque sight of brimming rivers and streams and the pitter-patter of rain on greenery will envelope you in tranquility-a great way to unwind. The grueling summer is now a thing of the past. The sizzling sun has given way to a cloudy sky and falling raindrops. It’s time to enjoy the rains and bring in a sense of romance and wellness too. Dr. Vinaya Nagaraj (Editor)
Laughter The Best Medicine Nobody likes to get rained on.
This includes all creatures including the snail, even though some snails come out their shells when it rains, they still seek shelter. Vyacheslav Mischenko, a photographer from Ukraine, captured this stunning image in a forest near his home. This thrifty snail turned a flower into an umbrella, and sheltered there to protect himself from the rain. Snails aren’t known for being the prettiest animals, but this photo definitely sheds light on how unique these creatures really are.
My statistics professor told me I was average. I told her. “That’s mean.” [seen on reddit] I spent over Rs.9000 on eBay yesterday to buy a cheese grater that was once owned by Adolf Hitler and Saddam Hussein. It was the grater of the two evils. [From internet]
Mischenko said that the image’s colors and setting reminded him of Monet’s 1886 painting “Woman With A Parasol”
“If you are older, you are cleverer. I just believe that. If you’re in an argument with someone older than you, you should listen. Even if they’re wrong, their wrongness is rooted in more information than you have. [Louis C.K. comedian] In a physics class, the teacher boils some water. Then, when the water starts making a noise, he asks: “Why is the water making this noise. Jonny”?“ That’s the germs screaming before being boiled” {Jornal de Noticias] Compiled by Vinaya teacher
What’s the difference between ignorance and apathy? I don’t know and I don’t care. There’s a knock on heaven’s gate. St.Peter calls out,”Well, what is it?” “It should be who is it, not what is it, my boy.” “Oh God, not another school teacher!” [AnikoDenhoffer]
Biotechnology
Chemistry
As the etymology of its name implies, biotechnology is the field of study that looks at the practical industrial applications of living things. Depending on the area of application, biotechnology often overlaps with other fields, including biomedical engineering.
SOME INTERESTING FACTS OF CHEMISTRY:• Chemistry is a fascinating science, full of unusual trivia! Here are some fun and interesting chemistry facts for you: • The only elements that are liquid at room temperature are bromine and mercury.
Interesting Biotechnology Facts: • Biotechnology is not a new field, although its intentional use is comparatively new.
• Unlike many substances, water expands as it freezes. An ice cube takes up about 9% more volume than the water used to make it.
• Humans have unknowingly used biotechnology practices for thousands of years, specifically in farming and pharmaceuticals.
• If you pour a handful of salt into a glass full of water, the water level will actually go down rather than overflow.
• Even in the Neolithic period, early humans incorporated a very broad definition of biotechnology in their newfound agricultural attempts.
• There is about 250 g of salt (NaCl) in the average adult human body.
• By the broad definition of the field, early civilizations’ brewing and fermenting of alcohol, specifically by the Egyptians, Chinese, and Indians, and the use of yeast in bread making by many civilizations would fall under biotechnology. • The term “biotechnology” is thought to have been first used in 1919 by Karoly Ereky. • As new practices in biotechnology occur, additional subfields of the science have been created, including genomics, gene therapy, immunology, and more. • By some standards, early practices in farming that utilized selective breeding could also be considered biotechnology.
• The only letter that doesn’t appear on the periodic table is J. • Lightning strikes produce O3, which is ozone, and strengthen the ozone layer of the atmosphere. • The only two non-silvery metals are gold and copper. • The rarest naturally-occurring element in the earth’s crust may be astatine. The entire crust appears to contain about 28 g of the element. • Hydrofluoric acid is so corrosive that it will dissolve glass. Although it is corrosive, hydrofluoric acid is considered to be a ‘weak acid’.
Aradhana Teacher
• Perhaps the most crucial application of biotechnology of its era was the production of antibiotics to fight infection. • Even today, researchers are continuing to improve upon biofuels in order to cut down on fossil fuel mining and greenhouse gas emissions. • There are four major areas of biotechnology study and application. • These are medical, agriculture, non-food agriculture, and environmental applications. • While pharmaceuticals like antibiotics, insulin, and vaccines can be considered biotechnology uses, innovations like gene therapy and gene suppression would also meet that definition.
Achievement
• Non-food agriculture uses apply to things like the creation of plants to produce plastics, and enzymes or single-celled organisms for industrial fermentation and the production of textiles. • Some environmental applications of biotechnology include uses microbes to clean up an oil spill or fungal or algae outbreak. • Through the efforts of the US Congress and the National Institute of General Medical Sciences under the National Institutes of Health, biotechnology has become a sought-after field of study in many major universities. • Biotechnology does have its critics, as there is currently a movement to ban and avoid genetically modified foods grown through genetically altered agriculture.

MONSOON
The Rain
A good monsoon equals prosperity and the opposite equals drought, crop failure and hardship for the farmers. For the common man, it is a much needed relief from the scathing heat, a time for tea and pakoras and just enjoying the magic that monsoon creates.
When the day gets hot and dry
In India, the monsoon symbolises creativity, regeneration, prosperity and gives the people a reason to celebrate. Rain depicts a new lease of life. Young children are seen getting wet in the rain and playing with paper boats and having puddle water fights. Monsoon creates an air of fresh energy and spirit.
When coming home from school
Rain Rain is not only drops of water
It is the love of sky for earth
They never meet each other but send love this way
Enjoy the love of nature.
HAPPY MONSOON.
Vastala Shukla X Beta
The rain makes it cool I love splashing in the puddles
Out pop the umbrellas
In all pretty colours
Some plain ,some with designs
Of animals ,plants and flowers
My mom cares for me
So she tells me to wear a raincoat
But she doesn’t know that I
play in the puddles with paper boat
When the rain comes down heavily
The streets get filled with water
I have fun jumping in the rain
And getting drenched in water
But in the evenings
When the rains don’t stop
I cannot go to play
Then I become sad and plead
“Rain , rain go away “ -Namya Mitra VI Omega
Rain Rain Rain ... Rain rain rain, Up above from the skies, You come, As drops of joy, As drops of sorrow, As a shower of blessing from the heaven, Rain rain rain,
Pitter patter pitter patter,
On the window panes,
Thunder and lightning fill up the skies,
Creating an orchestral symphony.
What makes the noise of thunder?
Rain rain rain, With wind, sun and clouds,
Don’t believe anyone who tells you the sound of thunder is caused by “clouds bumping into each other”. Just smile sympathetically and walk away.
Seven colours you bring together,
Lightning strikes somewhere on earth a hundred times every second. The huge release of electricity that occurs during a bolt of lightning heats the air around it to about 30,000°C. Heated air expands, and the air around the bolt becomes instantly squashed. As a result, the air pressure around the bolt increases a hundred fold, causing it to explode outwards, sending shockwaves in all directions. This is what makes the big booming noise.
And join our hearts.
Rain rain rain,
A miracle to a drought,
Come up a curse in glut,
Tiny silver crystals,
Trickle from above. Pragati Kapoor XII - Commerce
Light travels quicker than sound, so you will see the flash of lightning before you hear the thunder. A single vertical bolt of lightning will produce a single bang, but the shockwaves will reach you gradually, in one long rumble, starting with the ones near the ground which are nearest to you and ending with the ones coming at you from the top of the bolt. Forked lightning consists of many different bolts, and the shockwaves from all the different strikes will bounce off each other and make low rumbling thunder that goes on for a long time. Occasionally, no thunder accompanies a lightning bolt. This is thought to happen when a bolt travels slower than normal, giving the heated air around the bolt time to expand more gradually rather than exploding. By Akanksha S IX Beta

Getting to the island: A square swimming pool has a square island in the middle of it. The pool is 10 metres by 10 metres. You want to go to the island, but you cannot swim and there is no raft. However, there are two fairly wide boards lying by the pool. You could walk out to the island on one of those except that when you try, you discover that each one is just a few centimetres short of reaching the island. How can you use the two boards to reach the island? There are no nails or rope handy, so there is no way to nail or tie the boards together. Answers Grandma’s Pie Start both timers together. When the four minute timer has run out put the pie in the oven, allowing the seven minute timer to keep running. It runs for a further three minutes. Then turn the seven minute timer over and start it again. It runs for seven minutes. This makes a total of 10 minutes.
Brain Teaser Is your answer 10th day or 19th day? The correct answer is 19th day because at the 19th day, it is half the size of the pond and on 20th day, it becomes twice of it’s size and thus covers the whole pond.
