THE ARTIST Street artist, INDO was born in Sydney in 1982 from migrant Chilean parents. Right from the start he looked at life from a unique perspective. After completing studies in graphic design and illustration he took his inspiration to the streets. With stencils and spray cans in hand, he launched an early reputation with his explosive colours and self-styled in-themoment brand of street art. It wasn’t long before INDO was picked up by a talent scout and a commercial collaboration with some major corporations followed. Some of the companies to experience INDO’s art are ING Direct, The Maritime Union of Australia, General Pants, Fuel TV, The Rolling Stones magazine, ANZ Bank and Sony BMG. Liquitex Australia has also sponsored him as a Brand ambassador and he’s competed in Street Art Competitions winning heats and titles at the infamous, Australian Street Art Battles. INDO says “Street art is an extreme sport. It’s all about being connected … the most freeing medium in the world. It’s adrenaline pumping, strategic like chess, and most importantly, there’s complete detachment where the art work is here today, gone tomorrow.” His “one night only” solo exhibition entitled “Ghetto to the Meadow” was a sell-out success with all 55 pieces of original street art sold. INDO takes inspiration from iconic artists such as the Frenchman, Jean Paul Basquiat, Banksy and Andy Warhol. INDO today is a full time artist and his work can be seen in the streets of Melbourne, Sydney and parts of South America.

THE STREET ART I think in the realm of street art it is important to make the distinction between graffiti and street artists. Graffiti artists are spontaneous and random – it’s often thoughtless scribble, tags or random words. Whereas a street artist finds a venue, thinks about it, takes it home to find a solution and then comes back following a planning process and creates art that engages with the space or makes people think about the context in a new way. - Taken from interview for the brag street press magazine -

THE HAUNTING

Pop art is a major influence on my work. I like the strong, bold imagery – it captures people’s attention! I am a particularly big fan of Andy Warhol’s work. I could not talk of street art and influence and not mention Banksy. Banksy introduced street art into the commercial world, built up an empire through his mysterious reputation and controversial work and is now a global icon. He has really helped to make the world recognise street art as a serious art form.

BASQUIAT INDO Inspired by Basquiat and aboriginal culture, combined the two forms to create a unique style. He calls it modern day dreaming. The Bora Ring - Talks about the right of passage & spirits that guide the traveller into the new. Brothers and sisters - is a celebration of the many becoming one. Right of Passage - Talks about the challenges Aboriginals face in modern day society, the mind games, racism & the fight for equality. THE BORA RING
