FRESH FLAVORS

FROM THE FARM

F

arm to Table is a growing food movement that is quickly popularizing on the Central Coast. Also known as Farm to Fork, this concept is best described by its name: food from the farm that arrives directly to your table. Meaning, there are no stops in between; your food does not sit on a truck or shelf – ever. It is fresh and local because it does not travel far to arrive to the kitchen where it is prepared. And lo and behold, the next stop is your table, on your plate. This movement has changed the way that local restaurants and chefs cook and purchase food. More and more often, chefs go directly to farms themselves, or grow their produce and herbs in private on- and off-site farms. Thus the time between harvesting and consuming food has been shortened as this philosophy enables Farm to Table restaurants to provide you with plates that were picked that same day! The following is a San Luis Obispo County Farm to Table restaurant dining guide.

delina’s Bistro, located at Trilogy at Monarch Dunes, is known for their exquisite wine library and fun yet sophisticated atmosphere. “We have a fairly diverse menu because I’m satisfying several groups of guests at the same time,” explains Executive Chef Charles Weber, “I cater to casual diners as well as those looking for a fresh, Farm to Table dining experience, and all those in between.” Food at Adelina’s Bistro is “seasonally influenced,” describes Weber as he crafts his latest new menu item, a Hummus dish inspired by local radishes and fresh garbanzo beans. “I rely on a handful of purveyors to source locally raised and harvested products as often as possible.” Visit Adelina’s Bistro and reserve your Sunday evenings for Chef Weber’s signature “Sunday Suppers” featuring specialty dinners like locally sourced shepherd’s pie lamb stew entrée with bread pudding in Irish whiskey sauce for dessert. THOMAS HILL ORGANICS

T

homas Hill Organics Market Bistro and Wine Bar is the perfect destination for a true Farm to Table dining experience because their menu was designed around the use of organic produce, locally-sourced from the Thomas family farm nestled in the east hills of Paso Robles. “We base our menu on what is in season, what is available on our farm or from our local farmers. The food is guaranteed to always be fresh and amazingly delicious,” exclaims Debbie Thomas, owner. The restaurant concept was also literally born from Farm to Table. “When we moved here ten years ago, there was no place to buy a variety of organic fruits and vegetables for our own use, so we started planting our own,” describes Debbie Thomas. Shortly after, the Thomas family began a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program and then opened doors at Thomas Hill Organics to showcase their organic produce. And very soon, Thomas Hill Organics will be further expanding their doors in Paso Robles. Handcrafted from the kitchen at Thomas Hill Organics, enjoy the variety of seasonal menu creations from fresh ingredients that change weekly! Treat yourself to gardenfresh salads, flavorful appetizer dishes, one-of-a-kind entrées, and even thin crust wood fired pizzas with toppings like roasted beef sausage, candied jalapenos, and fresh basil.

FIG GOOD FOOD

ig Good Food serves up big flavors in a tiny kitchen. With only a mini-fridge that holds a few choice items, Fig has no need to fill a large refrigerator because the majority of their food arrives from the farm on the same day that it is served. As ingredients arrive through the door, they hit the rotisserie, grill or pan without skipping a beat and are onto your plate in no time. Specializing in pasta and Mediterranean flavors, Fig is the new home of the Harmony Pasta Factory. “We reinvented ourselves here,” exclaims owner Chris Dillow. Inspired by the growing artist community in historic downtown Atascadero, Dillow moved her famous pasta machine to its new home and ignited the Farm to Table movement in Atascadero! Chef Mike Standerry serves amazing food from Fig Good Food’s humble kitchen. COOKING KIDS WITH

By Audrey Johns

Back to School in the Kitchen It’s that time of year: pencils, backpacks and lunchboxes. Make a new school year’s resolution to teach your children the most basic and important lesson of their lives: how to eat and how to cook. Start by showing them where their food comes from. Take them to our local farms to meet the chickens that lay the eggs, or the goat that supplied the milk for the cheese. Then take those ingredients back home and work in the kitchen together. Visit Truly Natural Free Range in Atacadero for an array of eggs from chickens to ducks, even goose eggs the size of your hand! You can take a tour of the farm and see where the eggs come from and purchase eggs from their road side stand. But you must check with Truly Natural for availability, because birds take their “winter vacation” from laying eggs after the fall. Happy Acres, a well-known farm in Templeton, offers year round farm tours where you can meet goats, horses and even bottle feed darling newborns! Their tours make the perfect Saturday family outing and their roadside stand is filled with cheese, yogurt, and delicious goat cheese ice cream! Use the guidelines below to design your plan for family cooking lessons. Start slowly and help to build your child’s kitchen confidence. la cosecha BAR + RESTAURANT

FRESH LATIN FLAVORS,

SIGNATURE COCKTAILS, INVITING AMBIANCE

La Cosecha Bar + Restaurant 805-237-0019 835 12th Street Paso Robles LaCosechaBR.com

The second creation of acclaimed chef, Santos MacDonal, La Cosecha Bar + Restaurant in Paso Robles celebrated its grand opening in the beginning of July. The restaurant, whose name means “the harvest” in Spanish, is a celebration of Latin cuisine, boasting flavors from Spain, Central and South America. “By trade, I’m an Italian chef,” said Chef Santos, whose Italian eatery, Il Cortile Ristorante, enjoys accolades far and wide for his fastidiously-crafted pastas and sauces. “But I’m Honduran by birth. Developing La Cosecha has immersed me back into the tastes, textures and aromas I know best.” Along these lines, Chef Santos has crafted a rotating menu inspired by seasonal local produce, proteins and grains; and accented by imported fruits, roots, herbs and spices from Latin America and Spain. From small plates, entrees to desserts, guests can expect the quality of ingredients and creative cuisine for which Chef Santos is recognized, and many will be treated to their first experience with authentic flavors and recipes, including: Peruvian assorted fresh ceviches, rare imported hams, sausages, and chorizo, Honduran pollo asado, and Monfongo, a traditional Puerto Rican dish consisting of plantains, Carribbean spices, crispy pork and fresh local fish. In the kitchen, the culinary team consists of Chef Santos, his brother and longtime collaborator, Jorge MacDonal, and Chef de Cuisine, Fernando Bedolla, Jr., who arrives fresh from Santa Monica where he was Executive Chef at farm-to-table restaurant West 4th & Jane. Chef Santos has also partnered with mixologist Eric Carfagnini, to develop a cocktail menu that includes specialty drinks made from garden-fresh ingredients, imported herbs and spices and artisanal spirits. A sampling of La Cosecha’s signature cocktails includes: Botanicos Espumosos made

from fresh thyme, lemon, rhubarb and gin, topped with cava and Seasonal Caipirinha with fresh berries, lime, simple syrup, St. Germain elderflower liqueur and cachaça. With its ideal position just off Paso Robles’ charming City Park, La Cosecha’s ambiance is casual, sophisticated and engaging. Per MacDonal’s commitment to sustainablysourced décor, the wood used to shape the beautiful bar was reclaimed from Paso Robles’ Windfall Farms and built by carpenter Peter Smith. “I love taking classic architectural elements and applying them to reclaimed, rustic materials,” said Smith. “In this case, we took 30-year-old pasture fencing from Windfall Farms and combined it with good solid design and traditional craftsmanship, making for a beautiful, inviting finished product.” The rest of the design elements followed suit, with hand-crafted light fixtures by Jon Wommack of Wommack Electric and PB&J Custom Lighting in Paso Robles, using reclaimed and leftover materials, including slate floor tiles, copper conduit from discarded refrigerators, among others. The glass used in the scones was hand-blown by Eric Dandurand of Harmony Glassworks. “The overall effect is very rustic-meets-modern,” says Wommack. “I’ve gotten much more into the artistic side of things in the past few years with a concentration on going green, using solar and LED whenever possible. I was allowed to have artistic freedom, collaborating with Eric, and the result is fantastic.” In designing the restaurant’s interior, Chef Santos’ wife and partner, Carole MacDonal, said, “Our goal was to honor tradition while mixing it up with a fun and inviting ambiance. The reclaimed wood reflects our belief in sustainable and reusable goods, while the hand-blown glass sconces provide a modern, clean edge and demonstrate our commitment to local artisans.”

NOSE, LEGS, BODY!

KNOW WINE LIKE THE BACK OF YOUR HAND

I

n Nose, Legs, Body! Know Wine Like The Back of Your Hand, wine columnist and former “wineologist” on TV’s Fine Living Network, Len Napolitano, helps wine beginners become wine savvy addressing compelling questions with fast, simple answers. Learning wine is quick and easy for anyone wanting to build confidence in making wine selections and enhance everyday wine experiences. Napolitano reveals wine’s complex subjects and peculiar wine terminology while recounting with sincerity and whimsy his personal experiences as a self-conscious amateur who transitioned to practical wine professional. Inspired by his own endeavor, he fits a bounty of information into concise answers to common, yet critical, wine questions and concludes each chapter with enlightening, hands-on wine tasting exercises to do at home. From learning the basics to exploring the fine points of a great wine, the book helps beginners strengthen their passion for wine by knowing its most pertinent terms, processes, and styles.

www.IndulgeSLO.com

Some fundamental knowledge of wine certainly would have served me well during my first encounter with wine sediment. While sitting with friends and family, I was gazing at a delicate, 25-year-old bottle of red wine moments after it had been slowly and carefully uncorked and placed gently on the table. I was surprised when I noticed tiny black particles floating inside the wine. So, I calmly reached across the table, took the bottle, and started shaking it—as if it were a half-gallon jug of orange juice! I thought if I got the solid bits inside circulating (I probably called it pulp) they would mix with the wine, which would taste better as a result. I was only able to complete one or two shakes of the bottle before others at the table frantically jumped out of their seats, grabbed my arm, and screamed, “No! Put the bottle down!” At the time this occurred, my wine knowledge amounted to little more than how to use a corkscrew. Six years later, the first edition of my weekly wine column, which would run for ten more years in the same newspaper, was published.

WHEN IS IT NECESSARY TO DECANT WINE? In the course of going through a bottle of red wine—or sometimes even in the time it takes you to finish one glass—have you ever noticed the wine improving? Perhaps more aromas are detected, or the finish lasts longer. That’s because the wine is getting aerated, also called “opening up,” and releasing its full potential in aroma, flavor, and texture. Decanting is the transfer of a red wine from its bottle into a new container, either for the purpose of aeration or to separate wine from its sediment, or sometimes both.

CLAIBORNE & CHURCHILL ON THE SLO WINE TRAIL By Audrey Johns

Harvest season is nearing, but in the meantime there is plenty of summer fun to be had at wineries in the happiest city in America – San Luis Obispo. Don’t wait until grapes are harvested to enjoy summertime winery events full of lighthearted fun, new friends, and tasty wines. Wineries in San Luis Obispo have a charming, young-at-heart feel with great wine events that are both musical and artistic. Leading up to harvest is a full schedule of fun events with great tunes, food, and rockin’ wines at Claiborne & Churchill Winery one of my favorite wine stops in San Luis Obispo. I had the pleasure of visiting Claiborne & Churchill Winery recently and have sipped their Riesling all season. It is refreshing during summer heat with characteristics that are dry, crisp, and cool. “Our 2012 dry Riesling is a blend of grapes from two counties,” explain owners Clay Thompson and Fredericka Churchill-Thompson, “The classic floral aromas come from Monterey County fruit while grapes from our own Edna Valley contribute the solid structure and rich texture.” Claiborne & Churchill Winery’s 2012 Riesling and other deca-

dent vintages can be enjoyed each day in the vines at their picturesque tasting room located at 2649 Carpenter Road in San Luis Obispo or at their “Sips and Songs” Friday evening events full of food, wine and live music from 5:30pm to 7:30pm. During this summer season, you know what to do. Visit the San Luis Obispo wine trail and indulge. Great wines, picturesque atmospheres, and relaxing tunes will make you feel like you’re on vacation within minutes, even if it’s only for the afternoon! Claiborne & Churchill Winery will be attending and pouring at Sunset Savor the Central Coast on September 27-29. At this event, you can taste more than two hundred wines, indulge in culinary bites from over thirty local chefs, chat with winemakers, brew masters and artisans and enjoy all that this stunning area has to offer all on the beautiful Santa Margarita Ranch. Visit savorcentralcoast.com. Stay up to date on events at Claiborne & Churchill by visiting claibornechurchill. com and follow the San Luis Obispo wine trail at slowine.com.

Sheryl Qualls, CEO of Qualls Construction, Inc, (pictured below) is the proud owner and resident of her very own dream home, located on scenic Nacimento Lake. The design/build contractor enjoys water sports and live music alongside husband of twenty-nine years, Chris, and golden retrievers Rosie and Sydney. Design + Build + Love: Inside Sheryl Qualls’ comfortable lakeside bungalow

DESIGN + BUILD + LOVE BUILDING DREAMS WITH SHERYL QUALLS AT NACIMIENTO LAKE By Hayley Thomas WHERE ARE YOU FROM? TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOURSELF, YOUR FAMILY AND HOW YOU CAME TO BE A CONTRACTOR. Sheryl: I’m a native Californian born and raised in Redding, California. By happenstance, I was introduced at a family gathering to my husband Chris and a relationship blossomed into twenty-nine years of marriage that is still going strong. We moved to Newbury Park, California to start our life together. We have two beautiful children, Ryan and Brittany, who also reside in California. My husband was a contractor, providing residential and commercial construction services, which provided my initial introduction to the industry. Chris transitioned to a corporate engineering position early on and the business was left to me. I started by working at a local architectural firm, but soon realized that my true passion was to become a design/build contractor,

which led me back to school to obtain a degree in interior design. As our family grew, I enjoyed participating in the business and realized my love for residential construction after I designed and built a custom home for our family. Having enjoyed the process and challenge so much, I decided to make it a long term career focus. TELL US ABOUT YOUR HOME. WHAT WAS YOUR GOAL WHEN BUILDING IT? Sheryl: In the mid ’90s, we purchased our second home on Lake Nacimiento. Our home is all about large living in small spaces, responsibly integrating development into the local environment. After multiple alterations over the last eighteen years, we have finally arrived with a design that nurtures our individual family personality. WHAT FEATURES ARE YOU MOST PROUD OF

16 Indulge Magazine | SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY

WITH THIS HOUSE IN PARTICULAR? Sheryl: We transformed one of the oldest houses in the community into a comfortable country bungalow that balances traditional finishes with modern conveniences. The interior provides an open floor plan with traditional finishes in the classic craftsman style. The exterior provides a natural and organic environment for nature observation, entertainment, or just plain relaxing. We have two golden retrievers, Rosie and Sydney. We live a casual lifestyle with a focus on outdoor living, so the spacious decks and garden areas fit nicely. And of course, Rosie and Sydney couldn’t agree more. WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT LIVING IN THE NACIMIENTO LAKE AREA? Sheryl: We love water sports. It was always our intention to transition into full-time liv-

ing on the Central Coast. We enjoy living in a vacation destination that is rich in culture, great people and great weather. I have always been an active volunteer and love the sense of community that this area provides. WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT YOUR JOB? Sheryl: First of all, I love meeting new people, listening to their stories, understanding their needs and translating that into a design/build project that fulfills their vision. I love making dreams come true. I believe in providing the highest level of customer commitment and service. I believe in the team approach, which includes my clients and sub-contractors working together to deliver a quality product. WHAT HAS BEEN THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE THAT YOU HAVE FACED DURING YOUR CAREER? Sheryl: The biggest challenge as a design/ build contractor is delivering what the customer wants versus what I envision for them. This means I need to be an active listener and take the time to work through issues so I can ultimately hit their target. When I first start a project with a customer, I get to know the family dynamics, style and color preferences, etc. Sometimes this is a painstaking process, but always worth the effort. HOW ABOUT ACHIEVING YOUR PERSONAL/ BUSINESS ACCOMPLISHMENTS? TELL US MORE. Sheryl: In 2007, we made a decision to incorporate our construction company and pursue two opportunities: speculation development and a residential customer business. We made this decision with the intent for my husband to retire from corporate America and join our business fulltime. As we know, life has a serendipitous path and my husband is yet still employed in his corporate position. I took the challenge of growing the business independently and have enjoyed success beyond my wildest dreams. My commute to work in our lake community averages only about five minutes.

Rise to your Iconic Self!

WHAT ARE YOUR HOBBIES? Sheryl: Gardening, lake activities, volunteering and music entertainment. WOULD YOU SAY YOU ARE NOW LIVING IN YOUR “DREAM HOME?” Sheryl: When we first purchased our home in 1995, we wouldn’t have called it our “dream home,” but now — with a little thoughtful design and sweat equity — we are pleased to say we have finally arrived.

Wellness travel is a major tourism trend quickly gaining popularity all over the world, often in the form of destination yoga retreats. For those looking for a getaway where you can truly get away, the Central Coast offers serenity at the perfect destination, our very own Sagrada Wellness. Architect Scott Currie and acupuncturist Eva Inglizian harmonized their talents to create Sagrada Wellness, a boutique retreat center that offers a picturesque, primal experience of reward and renewal. Nestled deep within Santa Margarita (off of Pozo Road) on forty five acres of private terrain, there is not a neighbor in site or a single source of noise besides the songs of birds, the call of a hawk and the scent of wild sage. Currie, a green architect who earned his MA from SCI-Arc, has been designing spaces for over ten years in places like Venice, Los Angeles, Santa Monica and San Miguel de Allende. He designed their first retreat center in Mexico, crafting adobe cabins that offer guests a complete, authentic experience. Green design at Sagrada Wellness is natural, rustic, fresh and elegant with refined indooroutdoor living spaces, modern amenities, and native drought resistant cacti and plants. Sagrada Wellness embodies its dedication to the natural world not just in its green spaces, but also in the philosophy of the Sagrada Lifestyle which is mindful and respectful of natural beauty in detail. As a licensed L.A.C, Inglizian is an acupuncturist and herbalist who practices onsite at Sagrada Wellness. Inglizian treats guests and local clients experiencing ailments like digestive disorders, stress, emotional trauma, and sciatica. She also provides therapy for pain management and performs treatments like Acu-facial Rejuvenation. Her passion empowers individuals and she finds many ways to inspire others as an informative writer and

holistic chef as well as retreat host at Sagrada Wellness. At Sagrada Wellness, guests experience a full-bodied sense of community with other retreaters. Inglizian prepares delicious, wellbalanced and gluten-free menus filled with fresh whole foods at every meal. She brews detoxifying teas and greets guests upon arrival with her Welcome Tonic, a spa water refreshment which consists of organic watermelon and astragalus root. Dining accommodations are simple, elegant, and communal. Yoga classes and workshops, morning group meditations, and hikes are enjoyed throughout the day. Guests easily absorb the benefits of mindful living at Sagrada Wellness, as they receive complete attention and care with all of the thoughtful details that Sagrada offers.

During free time on retreats at Sagrada like the Weekend Warrior retreat, holiday retreats, and other cleanse/detox retreats, guests commonly book acupuncture treatments, swim in the natural spring pool, soak in the hot tub, venture on a hike, or rest in a hammock under an old tree. Enjoying these pleasures is a guest’s “digital detox,” as Currie coins, relaxation from noise-pollution and outside stress. Please visit SagradaWellness.com or call (805) 550-7636 to book a retreat, acupuncture treatment, vacation rental, or to inquire about sustainable green architecture. Read about acupuncture, yoga, and the “Weekend Warrior” retreat on September 13-15. To learn more about the Roots Flow Lifestyle and my yoga services and trainings visit RootsFlowYoga.com.

Jullie Hammer, Salon Owner and Stylist, has always dreamed of big city living, but loves the small town feel of Paso Robles to call home. Inspired by the history and character behind buildings and businesses in New York, Boston and Chicago, Jullie used her degree and experience in architecture to design the image of her salon. Located in downtown Paso Robles, The Wearhouse resides in the historic Romona Hotel (1889) building which has been standing across from the City Park for over a century. Skylights, exposed brick walls, and a modern industrial touch bring the East Coast to the Central Coast of California in an upscale salon where all of her clients can escape to the big city in a small, quaint space. As the owner and founder of The Wearhouse - A Hammer Salon, Jullie has reinvented the hair industry on the Central Coast. She connects her education in architecture and design with professional cosmetology to develop original custom looks for each client while showcasing the latest styles and trends. In 2010, Jullie Hammer and Chris Hangos created a professional hair company called H2Hair, specializing in cuts, colors and extensions that are designed for each client’s hair texture and face shape. Using her skills and knowledge of hairdressing, Jullie provides clients with education and tools to improve the health, condition and style of their hair. Her goal is for every client to walk away from their experience with beauty knowledge that they can use the rest of their life. Jullie has had work published in Salon Today Magazine and the opportunity to work with many celebrity clients, such as Shanna Moakler, Miss USA 1995, Alyssa Campanella, Miss USA 2011, Mabelynn Capeluj, Miss California USA 2012, Cassidy Wolf, Miss California Teen USA 2012, Chelsea Caswell, Miss Nevada USA 2012 and many more.

DO SOMETHING “Life is too short” is a familiar cliché very few people pay attention to, until it’s too late and you are out of time. Do you ever take inventory of the way you spend your time? How much of the time you spend, you actually use purposefully, productively, meaningfully? How much of time you throw away on TV, pointless speculations, meaningless interactions on social media, useless tasks, soul sucking things you really don’t want to do, arguing, complaining, and so on? THAT MATTERS happen. To make it happen, you will have to commit to doing what matters most to you. To find out what matters most to you, you will have to tap into your personal source of wisdom and inspiration – your heart. In your mind, you may be full of rationalization about what you do and why. In your heart, those same rationalizations are dissolved in the ocean of knowing that no amount of rationalization will really make you feel better. The only thing that would make you feel elated, fulfilled, happy and content is you doing what you are here to do.

We all have many gifts to contribute to the tapestry of living. We have talents, unique points of view, ideas, inspirations and dreams. With every dream we kill, a little part of us dies away. With every inspiration we forego, a little life in us shrivels up. With every gift we withhold, we are a little more impoverished. A life time of holding back and rationalizing our actions and choices, results in one day looking back and wishing you could have another chance. But there’s no going back. So, why not do it all, just right, now. For every brave

moment you choose to be yourself, you grow a little taller and more confident. For every contribution you make, you grow a little bigger than yourself. What you do in your life is not only important to you but for countless others you will encounter, even through five degrees of separation. Therefore, doing what matters is not just your personal beeswax. What you do, ripples out and creates waves in all directions, spilling into the shores of co-creation. Do what matters! MOSAIC ART DIVERSITY AND A NEW DIRECTION

AUGUST 2 THROUGH OCTOBER 778 Higuera Street, Ste B, SLO The Gallery at the Network is pleased to present Mosaic Art: Diversity and A New Direction featuring the work of local mosaic artists and sculptors Rebecca Reibel of Pismo Beach and Fred & Donnell Pasion of Passiflora Mosaics, Grover Beach. The show will feature the artists' diverse use of form, color, texture and subject matter. "We appreciate this opportunity to not only show our latest work but to also educate the community about the endless possibilities of today's mosaics and the exciting new direction the art form has taken in recent years,” says Rebecca Reibel, whose work for the show will include hand made ceramic sculptures, face vases and wall panels all delicately accented with glass, beads and ceramic mosaic. "A passion for smashin'!" says it all when describing Fred and Donnell Pasion's love for making mosaic art. What started as a hobby in 1999 turned serious and since establishing Passiflora Mosaics, have created many larger scale public and private mosaic sculptures and architectural installations such as recent commissions for Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital. For the upcoming show they are creating primarily smaller pieces such as whimsical concrete and glass mosaic sea anemones and garden bugs as well as a few "eclectic organic" mixed media pieces. Fred and Donnell Pasion also teach mosaic and sculpture workshops in their beautiful Grover Beach studio. The show will also offer a glimpse of the artists' work to be displayed at the annual Open Studios Art Tour taking place in October. Meet the artists and view their work at the opening reception planned for Friday, August 2, 6-9pm during Art After Dark at The Gallery at The Network, 778 Higuera, Suite B, SLO.

Festival to Benefit Options Family of Services Nonprofit In celebration of the world-renowned oysters of Morro Bay, the second annual Central Coast Oyster Festival will be held this year Saturday, October 19th at the Morro Bay Golf Course from 12PM to 8 PM Tickets on sale now, shuck yeah! Jacqueline Delaney of SpinCycle Event Installations and Neal Maloney of Morro Bay Oyster co-partnered together to continue the further development of an amazing festival soon to be the icon for original unique events on the Central Coast. Last year was a huge success with over 4000 in attendance, the largest first year attended event on the Central Coast to date. This year expected attendance well over 6000 and the team is ready to treat this large crowd to an experience they will never forget! Larger venue with outstanding design installations, more oyster vendors and on site parking, this event will surpass all expectations for attendees. The Central Coast Oyster Festival will feature a range of amazing oyster preparations, the best wines, brews, exclusive cocktails, and a full lineup of knockout bands to play throughout the day under the most beautiful settings. “There are so many great wine, food, and entertainment events on the Central Coast that we’ve really concentrated on creating an experience unlike any other to equally highlight entertainment and art right alongside the food and wine experience.” With a view of the Morro Bay Oyster Farm as well as the iconic Morro Rock, the Central Coast Oyster Festival will feature oysters from the Morro Bay Oyster Company, widely recognized as one of the greatest suppliers on the West Coast. Dozens of chefs from across the Central Coast will go head-to-head for the ‘Best Oyster of the Central Coast” Chef Award, and the audience will be invited to taste their sumptuous efforts. But while oysters will, of course, be the main attraction, other epicurean delights will also be available. Any good oyster festival needs a shucking competition, and the Central Coast Oyster Festival is no exception. Local shuckers will be invited to demonstrate their speed and skill to a live audience for prizes and the respect of the Central Coast community. In addition to the delectable flavors of fresh Morro Bay oysters, the festival will include special features such as whimsical structures from SpinCycle, a locally based event art installation company who first started at Burning Man creating beautiful designs and unique environments within the festival. SpinCycle will work alongside The Do LaB, based out of Los Angeles. The Do LaB is world-renowned for bending reality through interactive environments, event production and creative lighting design.
