Using a Soldering Station : 5 Easy Steps

A soldering station however sounds like a highly sophisticated & expensive machine, but it’s not! The whole mechanism arrangement consists of a soldering iron alongside an in-built thermometer, and an external power supply so as to keep it at a constant temperature. The temperature needs to be maintained as it provides for melting of solder on demand. But, the problem arises before new users regarding how to make use of this simple, but highly useful welding equipment. Besides, if one is looking to buy soldering station online in India, he can visit popular industrial supply ecommerce sites, such as Industrybuying. You can explore soldering station prices over here, that are quite economical. Here are 5 easy steps on how to go about using a soldering station: #1. Setting up: Firstly, fire-proof the work area and clear it from dust & dirt. Then, start assembling the components, plug in the unit, dampen the sponge, & put on the safety googles. #2. Choosing the Tip: A majority of soldering stations have standard interchangeable tips (replaceable) fitted onto them. The tip that is to be used must be broad enough so as to cover the entire width of the joint. But, it should not be wider enough to avoid heating of the wrong element. A small round tip would serve the best for general usage. Assemble it onto the handheld assembly. #3. Selecting the Appropriate Temperature: The temperature to be maintained during the process must be as high as needed for heating the work piece rapidly, i.e. within a second or less, to the point where it is capable of melting additional solder onto itself. 600 degrees is the starting temperature for surface mount elements that sit in blobs of solder in the circuit board, 700 degrees for thin wires & smallish components, while 800 for larger elements & lamp-cord-size wire. #4. “Tin” the Solder Tip: Apply tiny amounts of fresh solder onto the tip where it is supposed to contact the work piece, sufficient enough to properly coat the end with soft, fresh, silvery metal. Do make sure to wipe out any excess that usually hangs down from the damp sponge within the iron rest. Before proceeding to solder each joint that doesn’t have any solder already on it, apply some solder onto the iron to provide for a squishy, wider contact in order to dump some heat into the joint. The intention is not to add much solder to the work piece, but to simply heat the work piece by a sizable surface, instead of using a pointed surface. #5. Perform the Task (Solder): Start soldering using your soldering station unit. Best wishes!
