Editor’s Blog by Carrie-Ann Industry Leaders Magazine has been providing business news and information across various industry sectors from different parts of the world. We have been publishing stories about milestones reached by companies through phenomenal efforts and winning strategies. We have dedicated our July cover to the efforts of a woman who has begun a social entrepreneurship chapter with L.. L. - a condom company with a vision of empowering women globally by supporting their human right to safe sex. When one condom is purchased, one is distributed in a developing country. L. believes that around the world a woman's sexual empowerment goes hand-in-hand with her freedoms as a human being. The cover story talks in detail about the movement started by Talia Frenkel, a young photojournalist who has tirelessly worked for humanitarian causes. Another interesting article talks about ICANN’s announcement about moving internet beyond dot com. Being a major breakthrough in the internet and ecomm industry, it’s an interesting read. I am sure the story about transparent airplanes would leave you thrilled. Regards,

The End of A Hack-a-Thon ? LulzSec Disbands. Lulz Security, more commonly referred to as LulzSec, the group of hackers that reportedly attacked Sony, Nintendo, and more recently the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), announced its dissolution over the weekend, saying on Twitter on June 25th that its “planned 50 day cruise has expired, and we must now sail into the distance,” without elaborating further. However, while doing so, as part of its message, LulzSec also urged fellow hackers with similar agendas to join the “revolution” against large Government bodies and corporations, referring to the spate of attacks recently carried out by

IEA counters Libya hold-up by releasing oil reserves The International Energy Agency (IEA) announced in the latter part of June, the release of 60 million barrels of oil from global reserves. Primarily being touted as a move to counter the oil shortage created by the political crisis in Libya, this decision by the IEA is also likely to help control world-wide retail petroleum prices to some extent, and hence help global economic recovery. 30 million of the total 60 million barrels to be released by the 28 member-countries of the IEA will come from the U.S Strategic Petroleum Reserve, 20 million from the European members of the IEA and the balance 10 million from Asian nations.

The timing of this decision coincides with the recent promise made by Saudi Arabia, the world’s largest crude oil supplier, of helping offset the loss of Libyan oil by upping its supply on the market by 1.5 million barrels a day. While the oil market had become quite tense after the OPEC meeting in Vienna earlier this month concluded with output levels being left unchanged by the 12-member Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries, yesterday’s announcement by the IEA of releasing 60 million barrels from oil reserves provided some relief to the market.

ith fuel prices shooting through the roof, there’s been increasing interest expressed by global logistics leaders in developing technology that is likely to help cut costs as well as decrease impact on the environment. United Parcel Service (UPS), the world’s largest logistics corporation is doing exactly this, by starting to test implementation of a technology, called telematics, which promises to slash energy consumption, improve efficiency, better customer service, and make drivers safer on the roads. The telematics technology, which uses advanced algorithms and proprietary firmware to analyze data captured by sensors installed in the UPS trucks, helps make smarter choices regarding maintenance and running of the company’s trucks and hence cut down on costs. 36

According to the official press release by UPS about this technology, the report so built by the sensors draws on more than 200 vehiclerelated elements from speed, RPMs, and oil pressure to seatbelt use, the number of times the truck is placed in reverse, and the amount of time spent idling. This data is then uploaded by the use of a 900 MHz radio when a driver returns to his or her center at the end of the day, then sent to UPS’s massive data center in Mahwah, N.J.

book's $100 bn IPO If Facebook does actually offer its shares through its IPO at a valuation of more than $100billion, this would make the super-popular social-networking website one of the world’s biggest technology companies.
Earlier last month, LinkedIn, the professional networking website went public , at a valuation of around $4.3billion, followed by Russian search engine giant, Yandex, valued on the Nasdaq at $8billion and daily-deals website, Groupon , which filed for its IPO earlier this month at a valuation of $750 million. While a lot of investors are super-excited about this upcoming IPO, which is likely to take place later this year or in the first quarter of 2012, some analysts feel that this would be an over-valuation. According to this argument, with estimates suggesting that Facebook will generate $4billion in advertising revenue over 2011, a $100billion valuation – 25 times sales – would be taking it too far. And given that Facebook has not been able to break into the Chinese market – the world’s largest internet market with more than 457 million Web users – taking away a very significant number of potential members, there is some speculation regarding how sustained Facebook’s popularity and growth is likely to be in the future.

With the need for top executives to travel faster and keep their businesses ahead of the race fast becoming a reality, much like the need to email-on-thego a decade ago, private jets are becoming increasingly popular, and even necessary.
Larger than Life
Sure, there have been a lot of controversies regarding the appropriateness of the use of private jets, for environmental as well as financial reasons, such as the Wall Street Journal’s recent report on the personal v/s business usage of corporate jets and the appropriateness of these. However, all this aside, we absolutely believe in the fact that using private jets is becoming increasingly indispensable for leading global business houses, and so here we are with details of some of the most expensive (read: luxurious) private jet planes.
The Gulfstream G650 Flying at speeds of up to 0.925 Mach, the G650 by Gulfstream, this company’s topof-the-line jet, offers the longest range and fastest speed as compared to any other business jet. Plush sport leather-lined with glossy wooden bars, the colours and wood that construct the interiors of the G650 can be customized a great deal to suit its owner. With the motto of this plane being “enjoy everything, sacrifice nothing”, the exclusive detailed design of the G650 caters to the opulent lifestyles of contemporary executives and the fact that they are most productive when they are most comfortable. 112

With typical BBJ customers including people who put a high premium on mobility, for both their airplane and themselves, these super-luxurious jets offer the ideal travel means for those cannot afford to be immobilized when they travel, but prefer to live as they do on the ground, with access to an office, bedroom, shower, dining facilities, entertainment areas and more.
Depending on the model, capacity, customization level, etc, a BBJ can cost anywhere between $47– 310 million.
