Apollo VTS Asia Ltd. celebrates the 5th anniversary of its production hub for Asia-Pacific

In February-March 2022 edition, Industry Update had covered the celebration of the 175th anniversary of this family-owned business at its headquarters in Coevorden, Netherlands. The company had been awarded the ‘Royal’ title by the King of the Netherlands during the anniversary, essentially becoming the Royal Apollo Group. It is the world’s leading supplier of vertical conveying systems, offering solutions such as the spiral conveyor for packaged products and the bucket elevator for bulk products.

Following in the footsteps of the headquarters, on June 13th 2022, Apollo VTS Asia Ltd., a subsidiary of the Royal Apollo Group and the regional office and production hub for Asia-Pacific, had also celebrated its 5th anniversary at the facility in Thailand, where spiral conveyors for the Australian market and all of Asia-Pacific region are being manufactured from.

An open house event was hosted where valued connections were invited. The office and production facility had been completely transformed for the event. A red carpet at the entrance of the venue invited guests to follow the carpeted path to visit and interact with various stations starting with the “Apollo Theatre”, which plays a short company video about the company and its values. Guests then moved on to the “Apollo History Museum” to witness the 175 years old history of the company, from its inception as a black-

smith to the current global entity. The “Spiral Safari” was the next area to wander into, showcasing different types of interesting spiral conveyor solutions. At the end of the safari, carnival games awaited to shower guests with special prizes created just for the event. Before finally heading off to the snack and recreation area, guests were able to read about the lives of the six generations of the “van den Pol” family that ran the company and their impacts on the business.

Immediately following this milestone celebration, the Royal Apollo Group is preparing to globally launch a brand-new product development that will step up the vertical conveying technology to another level, figuratively and literally. The new Stacked Spiral Conveyor (SSPC), targeted at extra-high elevation conveying requirements, will be revealed just before the upcoming CeMAT Australia exhibition, where the company will also participate in.

There is no better timing for the Australian market because CeMAT is the leading trade fair for materials handling, intralogistics, and supply chain management. CeMAT Australia will be held at the Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre on July 19-21, 2022. An AR (Augmented Reality) version of the huge Stacked Spiral Conveyor will be awaiting visitors at the stand of Apollo VTS Asia Ltd. located at booth no. B30.

“The Royal Apollo Group is the world’s leading supplier of vertical conveying systems, offering solutions such as the spiral conveyor for packaged products and the bucket elevator for bulk products.”

New Hyster Pacific Islands dealer PortxGroup brings world standards of materials handling service and backup to remote locations

Forklift and materials handling leader, Hyster, is expanding its service offering – including safety training and logistical support in remote locations – with the appointment of PortxGroup as a Hyster dealer servicing the Pacific region.

PortxGroup is a rapidly evolving industry provider of logistics solu-

tions with a wealth of experience in port development projects and materials handling and will represent Hyster in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia, the Marshall Islands, Nauru, Palau, Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, American Samoa, Niue, Tokelau, Tonga, Tuvalu and East Timor (Timor Leste).

“Materials handling customers in these Pacific Islands have unique geographical and logistical challenges. Access to service capability and parts availability are key to success, and we believe that the nimble and flexible

approach of PortxGroup will provide new solutions for these customers,” says Mr. Simon Munn, Vice President, Dealer Development, JAPIC, HysterYale Group.

“Hyster backs its products globally, in locations ranging from the world’s most populous nations to the most widely dispersed, to ensure the same top standards whether in Singapore, Sydney, or remote Asia-Pacific islands,” he said.

With the company’s mission, to provide cost-effective ways in accessing the very best thinking and innovative solutions in the material handling industry, PortxGroup will complete Hyster’s coverage in the Pacific Island region and bring a level of after-sales service previously unavailable to this region.

PortxGroup Principal, Mr. Peter McLean, has been serving the Pacific Islands region for many years, and says, “Over the years, we have seen many companies come and go. What customers crave is a business who isn’t going to just sell a product and leave. They are looking for a brand that is offering long-term support in very remote, difficult to access regions. We hope to combine Hyster’s globally recognized brand quality with our strong knowledge of the region to offer customers quality and long term partnerships.”

“The opportunity to be a Hyster™ dealer is not only a chance to work with a globally recognized and long-established brand, but it also offers us access to a full range of high-quality products that are used in a broad range of industries. As a company, PortxGroup wanted to be associated only with a ‘tier-one’ brand, and Hyster was the ideal fit for us,” he said.

As part of the service offering, PortxGroup will provide training to Hyster customers in the Pacific Islands to keep forklift operators updated with the latest safety standards.

“Training is a key part of a longterm relationship. We want our customers to get maximum productivity out of their Hyster forklifts, and Hyster globally puts such a strong focus on safety, which matches our own safety-first ethos,” says Mr. McLean.

PortxGroup has been appointed as an authorized Hyster dealer as of 1st September 2021, and Mr. McLean looks forward to making the new relationship a success.

“Our highly motivated team has a unique and customer-focused approach. Our customers know the quality of the Hyster brand, and when combined with our long-term partnership approach to business, it creates a new level of materials handling solution offering,” he said.

The New Code of Practice Revolutionising Workplace Traffic Management

The interaction between pedestrians and vehicles in the workplace presents a major WH&S hazard. Until now there has been very little legislation relating to the subject.

Safe Work Australia has published a general guide on traffic management, together with specific guides for aspects such as warehousing. However, while these guides do help to identify the hazards, they do not define or mandate the use of any specific type of barrier.

This problem is not unique to Australia. In the UK, incidents involving pedestrians and vehicles in the workplace cause 50 deaths and more than 5000 injuries annually. Worldwide, 317 million workplace accidents occur each year, with 2.3 million people losing their lives. That’s 6300 every day.

Alarming statistics like this need to be addressed. As a step towards tackling this, the British Standards Institution (BSI) recently published the first official code of practice for safety barriers used in traffic management for workplace environments.

The code of practice, PAS 13:2017, was sponsored by safety barrier specialist A-Safe, which led an expert steering committee made up of some of the world’s biggest blue-chip companies: Nestle, DHL, Jaguar Land Rover, Allianz, and Mars, to name a few.

The resulting document is the final word on safety barrier practice and workplace traffic management procedure, globally. It covers everything from defining minimum requirements for barrier tests and pass/fail criteria for barrier survival and fixings integrity, to assessing the kinetic energy of impacts and implementing appropriate force resistance.

PAS 13:2017 contains industry-leading guidance in both the use and design of safety barriers in workplace environments. It is essential reading for anyone working in health and safety in workplace environments.

James Smith is co-owner and director of A-Safe. He says: “The PAS is a reference point for anyone with responsibility for facility design, traffic management, segregation and workplace health and safety; and shares best practice on the application and use of safety barriers. It encourages readers to think about the role of safety barriers as a priority, not an afterthought or retrofit.

“It’s also a solid reference point for manufacturers and distributors of safety barriers, and remains vendor neutral, communicating a non biased message to the audience, so the content can be used by anyone.”

The PAS 13:2017 code of practice is available from BSI Publications.
