Hidden Gems

Stonelick Lake

Located in Stonelick State Park in Clermont County, Stonelick is a quiet lake, perfect for kayakers, fishermen and tiny tots who love a beach day. With clean sand and water, the 500foot beach is large enough for toddlers to splash on the banks and bigger kids to swim out to the 20-foot (at its deepest) lake.

Stonelick State Park Campground is nestled within the rolling highlands, with over 100 electric and nonelectric campsites and a camp store. Premium lakefront sites cozy right up to the calm lake. The campground hosts several events for families and children throughout the summer, including build your own bat house, kids fishing days, fire safety with Wayne Township Fire and Rescue and Christmas in July.

Friends of Stonelick State Park have formed a volunteer conservation group to support the park staff, recreational activities and educational programs. With a goal to raise funds for park projects, Friends of Stonelick have helped install donated playground equipment, updated docks and kayak launches, completed a brand new disc golf course and provided activities for campers, like the spooky Halloween Campout and ice cream socials.

The lake is home to many wildlife species, including bald eagles, herons, wild turkeys, turtles and several varieties of stocked fish. For bird-loving kiddos, it is magical to watch the eagles soaring overhead and dipping into the lake for a quick lunch.

With more than 1,000 acres to traverse, the trails at Stonelick mostly rate as easy, including the popular 1.5 mile Red Fox Trail and 3.7 mile Beechtree Lakeview Loop. Trails are well groomed and full of wildflowers and fungi to study.

Stonelick State Park is a gem for a relaxing day on a quiet lake. With leashed pups permitted, Stonelick State Park, lake and campground is a fun way to enjoy a summer day with the whole family.
