Pharmaceutical business and pharmaceutical industry: New tracks in pharmacy education Location: Ulysse Room Time : 15 :00 - 17 :00 Chair: Pr. Ibrahim al-abbadi
Abstract: Pharmaceutical companies make some of the biggest gambles of any industry: multi-million, even multibillion dollar investments on a new drug. These investments can take more than a decade to play out. However, the macro-environment in which the industry operates is rapidly changing as well. While scientific and technical hurdles were traditionally the major barriers for success, increasing payor pressure has become an additional barrier not only in Europe and US, but also increasingly in the EMRO region. Therefore, the industry not only has to battle high attrition rates (only one in ten new Phase I drugs make it to the market), but also has to fundamentally rethink the R&D (research and development) operating model and development strategies. Against the increasing industry market needs and the highly specific profiles’ requirements, curricular pharmacy studies need to adapt to this expansion in a way that sharpens the skills of future pharmacy graduates by implementing new education tracks and teaching new adequate subjects. Learning objectives: During this interactive and entertaining pharmaceutical business and industry workshop, you will: - Increase your understanding of how the pharmaceutical industry makes decisions on research and development - Understand the future challenges that the pharmaceutical
23 industry faces and how to fill up the chronically increasing market needs as students and future pharmaceutical professionals - Practice your strategic thinking, negotiation, teamwork and communication skills
Documentary research in Pharmaceutical Sciences Workshop Location: Carthage Room Time: 15:00 – 16:00 / 17:30 - 18:00 Chair: Mehdi Bouhlel Co-chair: Asma Ben Abdelaziz Introduction: Documentary Research in Health Sciences, commonly called «Bibliography», is viewed as a fundamental transversal competence to pharmacy students, for the learning process, the research projects and the continuous personal development. In fact, the plethora of fundamental and professional pharmaceutical knowledge has imposed on the learners the use of electronic resources as a new supplement to lectures and lessons. Distance-learning of some units of the curriculum is now a common practice in the academic teaching.
SPSS Workshop Location: Carthage Room Time: 16:00 - 17:00 / 18:30 - 19:30 Chair: Mouna SAFER

Learning objectives: What is Statistical analysis? Why is it important to learn it? How?
