DIY Touchscreen Drone Kit

Mission and Vision To design solutions for the thoughtful integration of automation into human society.

DIY Touchscreen Drone Kit

WARNING! This is an experimental and potentially deadly aircraft. Please utilize the craft at your own risk. Infinite 8 Institute, or Infinite 8 Aeronautics, nor any subsidiaries are agents thereof, are responsible for the negligent use of this aircraft. All drone pilots are required to comply with FAA regulations in 14 CFR Part 107. Pilots outside of the United States should confer with your relevant government bodies for regulatory compliance.

DIY Touchscreen Drone Kit

Gather all of your parts, tools, and supplies together, including any single-board computing, such as the Raspberry Pi, or Nvidia Jetson Nano.

DIY Touchscreen Drone Kit

Place a set of male to female spacers under each arm.

DIY Touchscreen Drone Kit

Screw in the female spacer on the underside.

DIY Touchscreen Drone Kit

Plug in the buzzer, safety switch, power switch, the 6pin telemetry cable which goes into the telemetry 1 port, and the custom Pi-chord plugged into the telemetry 2 port.

DIY Touchscreen Drone Kit

Place a circle with two-sided sticky tape, from the following vibration dampening pack on the underside of the Pixawk, while saving the rest for later use:

DIY Touchscreen Drone Kit

Tape together the receiver that comes with the controller and the PPM Module. Configure the wires as documented below:

DIY Touchscreen Drone Kit

Place the Pixhawk, facing forward, in the middle of the Power distribution board, and zip-tie the buzzer to the front of the board.

DIY Touchscreen Drone Kit

Next, we will want to get superglue, or a glue-gun. We are going to put together the GPS Module.

DIY Touchscreen Drone Kit

A glue gun is the best bet for sternly placing the GPS module at the nose of the craft.

DIY Touchscreen Drone Kit

Reinforce the extender pole with a zip-tie and/or electrical tape. Do not permanently attach the module to the extender yet.

DIY Touchscreen Drone Kit

Place electrical tape or preferably ‘shrink’, such as we have here, around the extender pole.

DIY Touchscreen Drone Kit

Weave the GPS module wire through the arm and into the GPS port. Another view below.

DIY Touchscreen Drone Kit

Place the receiver and the PPM Module at the rear of the craft.

DIY Touchscreen Drone Kit

After using super-glue to secure the GPS module to the top of the extender pole, gather the motors, which should be arranged as such.

DIY Touchscreen Drone Kit

Screw the motors to the flat side of the arms, facing upward, while allowing the wires to fall through as such.

DIY Touchscreen Drone Kit

This should be your setup thus far. Let’s keep going.

DIY Touchscreen Drone Kit

Now connect the ESC’s to the motors. Switching any two of the wires will reverse the direction of the motors.

DIY Touchscreen Drone Kit

Connect two zip-ties for each of the arms.

DIY Touchscreen Drone Kit

Secure the ESC’s to each arm using the zip-ties. Cut off the access.

DIY Touchscreen Drone Kit

Tie down the safety button to the closest arm, by feeding it through the arm, and securing with one ziptie.

Artificial Emotional Intelligence

Attach and double zip-tie the telemetry dongle, and make sure the antenna is point down and inward, as not to get caught on the propellers.

DIY Touchscreen Drone Kit

Zip-tie down the Power Module to the closest arm, and plug it into the Pixhawk power port.

DIY Touchscreen Drone Kit

Pull together the following items: spacers, Pi Powerpack and LiPo Battery, as well as vibration dampener.

DIY Touchscreen Drone Kit

Place the Lip between the Vibration Dampener and Ziptie.

DIY Touchscreen Drone Kit

Connect the wires from the LiPo Battery, and place the spacers as such.

DIY Touchscreen Drone Kit

Place the Raspberry Pi single-board computer module on top of the spacers.

DIY Touchscreen Drone Kit

For Research and Development Purposes only, connect the GPIO Pin Extension Board, and secure.

DIY Touchscreen Drone Kit

Place the ribbon extension cable on top of the GPIO Extension Board.

DIY Touchscreen Drone Kit

Here is another angle of the ribbon cable.

DIY Touchscreen Drone Kit

Place the touch screen on the module as such. WARNING! Do not utilize the touchscreen and/or the GPIO Pin Extension Board during flight! The touchscreen interface is for bench-testing in the lab and/or in the field.

DIY Touchscreen Drone Kit

Connect the LiPo Batter to the Raspberry Pi using the USB to Micro-USB cable.

DIY Touchscreen Drone Kit

Gather the landing gear.

DIY Touchscreen Drone Kit

Screw down the top plate, with your newly built artificial brain facing sideways. Ensure you connect the custom Pixhawk to Pi wire to GPIO pins 1, 3, 4, and 5 in the first row. This wire will be connected to the Telemetry 2 port, while the GPS will be connected to telemetry 1.

DIY Touchscreen Drone Kit

Place the red props onto the silver tipped motors, and screw them on tight. However, be careful not to strip the thread.

DIY Touchscreen Drone Kit

Place the Black props onto the black tipped motors, and screw them on tight. However, be careful not to strip the thread.

Maverick Drone Operating System
