GRAND PRIZE WINNER
In March 2011, Infinite Labs® in conjunction with Bodybuilding.com kicked off the I AM JUGGERNAUT Challenge. We had over 700 contestants competing over a 12-week period. We narrowed it down to 5 Junior winners and picked one Grand Prize Winner to send to Las Vegas, Nevada. We will be announcing our Phase 2 winners in the next issue and sending one of them to Columbus, Ohio to experience one of the greatest fitness weekends in the world, the Arnold Sports Festival. This was not a transformation contest. Infinite Labs® did not compare before and after pictures as a means of selecting winners, instead; Infinite Labs® identified winners based on how well they fit into the Infinite Labs® culture. The criteria used to select winners were as follows: LOG ACTIVITY Once enrolled, entrants were asked to create and maintain a LOG/JOURNAL of their adventure. The logs are a permanent record of all experiences and kept on the Supplement Logs Forum. In this log, entrants recorded training and supplementation activity so that Infinite Labs® and the entire community were a part of the journey. This is where Infinite Labs® saw their dedication to being a JUGGERNAUT. It was 60% of their score. TEAM WORK The second most important criteria the entrants were judged on was how much of a team member they show themselves to be during this process. A defining characteristic of an Infinite Labs® “team” member is being supportive. Our winners demonstrated what a great addition to the team they were by being active in and encouraging those they were competing with. Doing so would provide a glimpse into the type of team member they were. It was 20% of their score. SUPPORT As a potential team member, Infinite Labs® wanted to see how good they were at recruiting support for the log. This happens when family and friends support their 12-week journey by opening a BodySpace account and becoming active in the log. Infinite Labs® encouraged them to reach out to family, friends, as well as their extended Facebook network. It was 10% of their score.

Infinite Labs® believes a Juggernaut is someone dedicated and committed to their goals in life and in training. They are consistent with their diet and supplementation. Our Juggernaut believes in living a discipline fitness lifestyle, resulting in the strength and confidence to do anything in life.
IMAGES Infinite Labs® wanted to make sure that the entrants used legitimate images. A dated image of them holding a newspaper taken on their official start date was required. It was 10% of their score.
In addition to sending our Grand Prize winners to Las Vegas and Columbus, they received VIP passes to the show, hotel and transportation, got to participate at the Infinite Labs® booth alongside the Infinite Beauties™, be featured individually on the cover of an Infinite Mag® issue with a full 2-page spread, and be featured in an IronMan® Magazine 2-page ad announcement. Both winners will also receive FREE JUGGERNAUT® for a year (18 units) and $500.00 spending money for the Mr. Olympia or Arnold Sports Festival Weekend.

“I started my fitness program on December 2010. We took a vacation and I didn’t like how I looked in the photos. I joined Bodybuilding.com and ran across the Juggernaut Body Space Group. The people on that group were great. I spent most of my time there, and in the nutrition section. It was in the Body Space Group where I first heard about the I AM JUGGERNAUT Challenge. Hesitant to join at first (being pretty much a newbie and the challenge required you to log your workouts, nutrition, etc.) I wasn’t sure I wanted to post for everyone to read what I was up to.”
IFBB PRO Joe Palumbo and Bill meet at the 2011 Mr. Olympia
“My first entry to my journal was greeted with several comments from other contestants welcoming me to the challenge. They were all very positive and encouraging. I posted my pictures that showed what I was starting with as well as my goals, and immediately people were posting suggestions and encouragement. I was overwhelmed! This is when I decided that I was going to attack this challenge with everything I had. Not with the sole intention to win great prizes, but to get everything that I could from it as well as to push everyone else to their maximum potential.
“Not only that, but you had to post pictures as well. I was five months into my program and I wasn’t seeing the results I wanted. This is when I decided to join. The challenge was being presented as a challenge for everyone; no matter what stage of your fitness program. I wasn’t going into this challenge to win it. I was going in hoping to get some better results, pushing myself harder than I ever had been pushed. I wanted to see what I could accomplish.”

When I Started:

How I Started:
Always been very active playing sports but never
lifted regularly. Son is a beast in the weight room and I sort of just got into it as well. Why I Love It:
“This was a great challenge that reached a wide range of people. The contestants included body builders, power lifters, strongmen competitors, athletes, fitness buffs, beginners, teenagers, grandpas and females. Not only did this challenge provide motivation, but it was also a learning experience as we learned training, diet, and ideas from a wide range of people.” “People ask me what was the best part of the prize package from Infinite Labs®. Going to Vegas was great. The Mr. Olympia Expo had a great atmosphere and I received a ton of free samples and shirts. The Olympia Finals was an incredible show. I never attended a body building event and couldn’t believe the excitement and electricity that was generated from an event like that. But anybody could have experienced the same thing by purchasing tickets. How many people went to Gold’s Gym with the original Juggernaut, IFBB Pro Joe Palumbo (JoeSwat) and NPC Model Hope ‘Smallwonder’ Trask for a videotaped training session? How often does a person like me get the opportunity to be on a cover of a magazine and featured in an advertisement in Iron Man® Magazine? For me, this was the best part of the prize package. It was the opportunity of a lifetime.” IFBB PRO Joe Palumbo spoting Bill with dumbell flys.

I feel great after a good workout and it something
I really look forward to. Want to stay active in sports for a long, long time and this will only help.
I tried to make my journal as detailed, How I Stay Motivated: I like setting short term goals. Setting goals too far informative and entertaining as possible. out causes you to lose focus (unless you set short term goals as well)! My journal provided daily details on my workouts and nutrition, and provided images Motivation Level: 10/10 and videos on a regular basis. I knew I had to push myself. The more I pushed myself Overall Goal: Represent myself well in the better results I would get and the more the I AM JUGGERNAUT Challenge. other contestants would push themselves. A makeshift gym was set up in my backyard to do what I called my ‘Outdoor Circuit’. The equipment consisted of heavy ropes for rope undulations, a sledgehammer, jump rope, sand bags, plyo boxes, weights and tires. When I felt the need to push even harder, I took this equipment to the local High School where I added tire flips, sprints and car pushing in the parking lot. A lot of these things I may have never done if it wasn’t for this challenge and the other contestants encouraging me. Throughout my 12 weeks, I made sure to visit every journal a few times a week. I didn’t go there just to post. I became involved with each contestant, sharing what they were going through and offer advice whenever I could, always offering encouragement. Some contestants were doing great and had everything together, so the most I could do was offer encouragement. Others I could tell were struggling. This is where I tried to focus most of my time. I became very close to some of the other contestants, even though we never met. When a new contestant started the challenge, I posted ‘Welcome to the Juggernaut Family.’ That is what it felt like we had become.”

How I Stay Motivated: The idea of lifting more each week. Erick started his Juggernaut journey in June of 2011 and has since been one of the most looked at competitors in the contest. Erick has been a very active member of the Bodybuilding.com community and thought this challenge would be the best way to share his knowledge of the sport and also learn more techniques to add to his arsenal of exercises in the gym. Team Infinite asked Erick what surprised him the most about the I am Juggernaut Challenge, to which he replied, “The camaraderie, the support, and the trading of information between the competitors were all a huge surprise to me.” We then asked what his favorite products were during the contest, “Right now I am using many Infinite Labs products. My favorite would have to be Massport. The make-up of the product is what really sold me and the fact that no one else really has a solid post workout product on the market makes this a no brainer.” “If I win this challenge I see myself as a future Rep! Even better a paid full-time member of the team! With regards to Bodybuilding.com, I would also like to say that this is a great site and I try and get anyone who is interested in fitness to join.”

“I thought that taking on a challenge while healing from a c-section might be a bad idea. I thought that my medical condition and military injury would prevent me from accomplishing my goal. Then I realized the power of thought and crushed all negativity in my mind, focusing only on success. This is what I accomplished with the help of Infinite Labs® and all of my Juggernaut family. Thank you all, I went from 165 to 145. Twenty pounds ain’t too shabby, I know I built up some muscles too.”

With my mom on the back patio in South Phoenix, Arizona, rockin’ out to Ozzy and Metallica, she’d have me jump up and sit on her back so she could do her donkey calve raises. Other girls were playing “Where’s Waldo” while I was learning all about mind/muscle connections. My mom is awesome. Her passion for the sport sparked my interest, then fueled my own desire to take it on myself. It’s an addiction.
Motivation:
I am blessed to have people in my life that remind me constantly of what I am capable of doing. “The community is a great motivation. Juggernaut® is amazing too!”
Team Infinite asked Kimberly what appealed to her the most about the challenge; “I was determined to get myself back into shape. So this challenge was just perfect for me. I didn’t have to rely on before and after pictures, so I didn’t worry about these gnarly little stretch marks hindering the decision! Just focused on being myself and putting forth all that I already have. I refuse to be a product of my situation. I will move mountains to be the person I know I can be. I truly am a Juggernaut.”
“When I found out I was pregnant, I had to stop with my training program to ensure everything went well. Aside from gaining the astounding 60 pounds regardless of my relatively clean diet, I had to have a c-section. I have a severe health condition along with some injuries I acquired while in the military. This made pregnancy very difficult for me.”

How I Started: Since I was a kid, I was always into working out and had an obsession with martial arts. When I was 16, I decided I wanted to become a personal trainer. Why I Love It: I feel it promotes a balanced lifestyle between body, mind, and spirit. How I Stay Motivated: By constantly learning all I can about anything having to do with health from supplements, techniques, nutrition, and much more. Dustin Baker joined the I am Juggernaut Challenge towards the end of August 2011. Dustin was an ex-personal trainer who states he had lost sight of his dream in owning his own gym. With hope that the challenge would reignite his long lost passion; Dustin got started on his 12 week Juggernaut journey. “I used many Infinite Labs® products, my favorite being the BCAA Caps. I also used Juggernaut® on training days and on my off days. What stuck out about this challenge the most to me was how it was judged. I have seen too many challenges where bigger guys used unfavorable methods to attain the body they needed to win. The I am Juggernaut Challenge is not a transformation challenge and is not about how buff or ripped you are, but about how supportive of other contestants and how hard you work. I would update my log and often visit other contestants’ logs up to 10 times a day, while also visiting and keeping track of the members who inspire me on bodybuilding.com. I train 4 times a week with free weights and try to get in 4 sessions of high intensity interval training. I usually don’t train with food in my system because I like to prime my body with BCAA’s and Infinite Force® an hour before to keep my body anabolic during the workout. I also spend up to 2 hours a day researching ingredients. Nothing is more important than learning what you are putting into your body and making sure it is of quality.” “Joe Palumbo, the Original Juggernaut, played a big role in my development through the challenge. I wanted to send Joe a ton of questions everyday! But I know how busy it can be so I tried to find the answers on my own before asking, but he was always there when that time came. I used his Facebook fan page to also see what questions he had already answered. Joe is a wealth of knowledge.”

Juggernaut® has outperformed all my expectations. My energy, pump, and power are all the way above what they were before taking it. I can power through an hour long workout, with no rest, and still feel like I could go another hour with no problem. I was stacking this with another supplement and after trial and error, I found the other supplement was hindering my workout. Juggernaut® is a standalone supplement. Don’t believe me? “Given a choice to win the cover of the magazine or $5,000.00? This question is difficult because for me, both are so valuable. The exposure I would get from being on the cover was what my initial goal was. In fact, as people would try to get me to take a training day off or cheat on a non-cheat day, I would say, ‘There are many people in a magazine, but only one on the cover’, and that is how I trained. One of the things that this challenge gave me was the confidence to start my own fitness training studio, and the money to be able to purchase more equipment for my clients and expand my business would also be important for me. I would invest it into my studio for the purpose of being able to help people even more. I originally set out for the cover and now that I own this studio the question is very difficult for me. How I Started: I have always enjoyed being physically active. It wasn’t until college that I began to focus on resistance training. I have recently entered a slump as I am in a transition phase (just moved from Australia) and need to kick start my routine again. I will always have cardiovascular and muscular strength training in my daily regimens regardless of my motivation level or any unforeseen circumstances. I refuse to be mediocre in anyway, so I will always strive to become the best I can be regardless if that goal is achievable. Sometimes the journey becomes more valuable than the destination.
Age:

Location:
Kennesaw, Georgia, United States
Occupation: Regional Market Investigator Primary Gym: Home Gym When I Started: October 2009 How I Started: I wanted to “take charge” of something, so I quit caffeine, quit smoking, slowed down on the drinking and started working out. I went from 148 to 196 in one year. Why I Love It: I love working out because of the satisfaction I get out of achieving personal bests in lifts, because of the way I feel when I’m not in the gym, and I love being more “attractive”. Motivation:
Why I Love It: The hardest part for me and always will be is getting out the door. Once the first sweat is broken, it is game time. I feel more alive after the end of a workout or run than at any point in the day. Regardless of my to do list, if a run or a workout is not checked off, my day is deemed to be unproductive! Motivation: The image in the mirror constantly pushes me. Yes, that is a very vain response but there is not one person who is not motivated by vanity in one shape or form. I stay motivated through competition. Not in the traditional sense like bodybuilding, but through judging and comparing. If someone is stronger or faster, they motivate me.
Overall Goal: To gain lean muscle mass, reduce body fat composition and to achieve the best results I can in the I am juggernaut competition.

INFINITE MAG® ISSUE 4 I AM JUGGERNAUT OLYMPIA 2011
It’s a challenge each and every day to prioritize working out over things like video games, drinking with pals, watching a movie, etc. When I’m feeling sluggish, I reach for a pre-workout, then I’m good to go.
“I started the I am Juggernaut Challenge when I saw a link to the challenge from one of the Infinite Labs® Reps. I was currently logging Juggernaut® in the sponsored logs, so I thought, wow, I love the product already, why not jump in? I went to the website, read the details and thought the entire concept was fantastic. It’s a challenge about guys and gals being supportive. Real, everyday people. Not the most buff or genetically gifted person who has 8 hours daily to train, but real live people, mothers, fathers, soldiers, firemen, accountants, sales people, and so many more can compete and have an equal chance to win. Lastly, I’m in the challenge because I’d love the opportunity to show that people with disabilities can be Juggernauts too. I have something called Usher Syndrome, a genetic disease that’s making me slowly go blind and I’m almost completely deaf already. With limited vision, I can no longer drive. I use a white cane at work to get around. Thing is, I could be at home getting disability. I’m out there not only working and making a good living, but active playing golf, walking, and lifting weights. There are thousands of disabled people just like me and the world should know they’re Juggernauts too.”

GOING DEEP
THE BENEFITS OF DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE By Glenn Pennington, LMT, CPT Do you want faster recovery, decreased risk of injury, more flexibility and reduced catabolic cortisol levels? Well, then look into the benefits of massage therapy! Who Would Benefit? All athletes would benefit from massage therapy. Whether you’re a bodybuilder looking to increase muscle gains and reduce chance of muscle tears, or a gymnast looking to increase flexibility. Research has shown that regular massage therapy improves range of motion, reduces recovery time, increases muscle tone and flexibility, and reduces cortisol levels. Massage also has been shown to reduce cortisol levels. Massage indirectly increases the ability of growth hormone in the body by reducing cortisol levels and promoting sleep.
Why Massage? When training, muscle is broken down and the body must repair the damaged muscle. The body lays down fibers on the damaged muscle but doesn’t always go with the grain of the muscle. It gets laid down horizontally and perpendicular to the muscle fibers. This scar tissue buildup limits the range-of-motion of the muscle. When training day after day, month after month and year after year this scar tissue continues to buildup and can lead to decreased performance and injuries. For bodybuilders this increased scar tissue buildup limits the ability for the muscle to expand. The muscle will reach a point where it just can’t grow, or you can’t get a “pump” because the muscle can’t expand due to the scar tissue buildup. Also, the increased scar tissue buildup puts more stress on the tendons with heavy weight training and makes you more susceptible to muscle tears. With massage, the scar tissue can be broken down allowing more room for muscle growth, and less chance for injury. For those of you not looking to reach a Mr. Olympia level of muscle development, massage is still equally important. Scar tissue limits your ability to run, jump, swim, or throw. The limited range of motion the scar tissue causes limits your ability to use the muscle to its fullest. For example, if you’re a sprinter who has been training for several years the scar tissue buildup may be limiting the muscle’s range of motion by 10%. Ten percent doesn’t sound like much but when you consider the difference between first place and last place in a 100-yard dash can come down to a hundredth of a second. Wouldn’t you like to have that extra 10% of muscle function?
DELAY MUSCLE FATIGUE SO YOU CAN TRAIN LONGER AND HARDER WITH BETA ALANINE*
Where do I find a therapist? There are several web sites that you can use to search for a good therapist in your area. Make sure they are licensed and specialize in modalities such as deep tissue and neuromuscular. Swedish massage may be relaxing, but will not be enough to break down the scar tissue and provide maximum results. How often should I get a massage? How often depends on how hard you train. If you train hard every day, you have a lot more scar tissue buildup than the recreational exerciser whom only works out a few times a week. Massage isn’t just a luxury to the hard training athlete. It’s a necessity! To allow the athlete to perform at their absolute best with the least chance of injury it’s pertinent to get a massage at least once per week. Therapeutic massage may seem expensive sometimes, but in the long run it’s a small price to pay for greater muscle gains, increased flexibility, and reduced chance of injury that can put you out of training for days or months.
SUPPORTS: • INCREASING MUSCULAR STRENGTH AND MASS* • HIGHER ENERGY LEVELS* • DELAYING MUSCLE FATIGUE*
So now that you have received your deep tissue massage and broken down that scar tissue you’re ready to enjoy muscle “pumps” like you haven’t felt in a long time. To take full advantage of your healthy muscle, try Infinite Labs’® Juggernaut® Pre-Workout to give you increased strength, insane muscle pumps, explosive energy, long-lasting endurance, mental alertness, reduced fatigue and muscles that stay hydrated long after your last sip.

YOUNG & STRONG
Athlete Who Believes He is Growing Old… To An
Markers for Good Health BY LINDA WOOD HOYTE
I, like many people, never think of myself as growing old. Growing old is for the “other people.” The life expectancy in 2010 is 78.7 years. Thank goodness my family has great longevity genes which can reach between 88 and 90. My family does stay young at heart. Age has never been a barrier to anything we want to achieve. As a matter of fact it wasn’t until a little while ago I thought I was invincible. I was the ultimate athlete. There was nothing I could not do. When it came to sports I wanted everything and I had to succeed; run track, play tennis, cycle, swim, bodybuilding, dance etc. Just like Superwoman, I felt so powerful; can you imagine that? Below is my achievement in lifting…check this out: EXERCISE

Wow wasn’t I grand!
”
Then, I just stopped competing. Since I had heard so many horror stories about out of shape retired bodybuilders as well as other retired athletes, I started looking back at some of the greatest athletes of my time. After retiring there were many I could not recognize. It was then that I took a vow that I would always stay in shape. The thought of being totally out of shape and out of control scared me, just as much as the poem “To an Athlete Dying Young” by Alfred Edward Housman (18591936). My God, how could an athlete die young? We are invincible! How can this happen?
Then the reality set in, death and taxes are inevitable. But according to my all time favorite poem “Invictus” by William Ernest Henley, which says in the first verse:
, me rs e v co at h t ht g ni e h t of ut O , e l po o t e l po om fr t i P e h t as Black I thank whatever gods masoyulbe. For my unconquerable ” My soul is unconquerable.ph: And in the last paragra gate, It mat ers not how straighttsthethe scrol . How charged with punishmenmy fate; I am the master of soul. I am the captain of my I control my life owH ever, death is sti l inevenitad.bl”e. I am back to that same
Well, since I cannot control the inevitable I will try to give myself the best ride until the end. Now I have come the long way around to say that maintaining proper diet, exercising and weight training will not guarantee a long life; although it may extend it. It will definitely guarantee a better quality of life. So you have to draw a line in the sand that says this is how I want to live. You need to give yourself markers, or before you know it you will be out of shape.
1 2 3
My first marker is my weight. I weigh myself every morning before breakfast. I have a 5 lb. range I have to stay within. If I go one pound over I cut back and tighten up my diet, and increase my cardio. Conversely if I start to look drawn and I am losing lean mass then I have to step up my diet by adjusting the amount of my protein intake, food and my supplements and training routine.
People just do not become out of shape overnight; it creeps up on you just like old age! One day you look in the mirror and wonder who is looking back at you. It is the result of repetitive improper eating (poor diet) and lack of exercise. The majority of people who are out of shape claim it is because of a medical condition, but it is just the opposite. Improper diet and lack of exercise may cause serious medical conditions. So say what you want, but that is the truth! Come join me, draw your line in the sand and set your own health markers. Here’s to your success!
Second marker is my cardio regimen. My goal is to do cardio 7 days a week. However, my range is between 5 and 7 days of exercise. When I do not get enough cardio or training, I become sluggish. That is my signal to get back on my program. Third marker is proper supplementation. I know I do not always eat as much as I should for being as active as I am. Therefore when I catch myself missing a few doses of taking a specific supplement on one day, I put myself right back on schedule. I always have more energy when I follow my scheduled supplement regimen. Outside of the basic vitamins, the best supplements for an aging athlete are L-Arginine, which has anti-aging properties, Creatine, Glutamine, Coenzyme Q10, and Omega fatty acids. Infinite Labs® Juggernaut® is the best pre-workout, energy and endurance drink I have used. Not only does it taste like a real treat, but it also includes L-Arginine!
Carno Cre™ from Infinite Labs® combines an Endurance Complex™ including CarnoSyn® beta alanine and the Magna Cre Mito-Matrix™ which includes Creatine MagnaPower™ for quicker energy production and less muscle soreness which means greater exercise performance. Glutamine MTX™ should be taken by everyone. The benefits of glutamine are substantial from boosting the immune system to improving brain function. Let’s just say it’s impossible to list all of the benefits. Glutamine MTX™ is unlike any other glutamine supplement out there. This product combines 5 types of glutamine for better absorption within your muscles. You should always use a superior glutamine which is why I stick with Infinite Labs®, it is a brand I trust.

A CONDITIONALLY ESSENTIAL AMINO ACID*
Folic Acid, also known as Vitamin B9 is a water soluble vitamin that promotes healthy cell structure. The fact that its water soluble means that it is in and out of the body extremely fast, and requires reloading on a daily basis!
As the primary energy source for your immune system, Glutamine plays a vital role in keeping you healthy. When muscle tissues have been broken down from an intense workout, Glutamine helps drive protein into your muscle cells where it will be synthesized for muscle growth. Glutamine may also help boost your immune system and speed up your recovery time.*
In 1992 the U.S. Public Health Service recommended that the approximate 60 Million women of child bearing age take a daily dose of 400 mcg of Folic Acid. Women beefing up their Folic Acid intake during pregnancy won’t guarantee all toes and fingers will show up in the right place. However, supplementing with Folic Acid will contribute to promoting a healthy pregnancy and eventual baby so it’s important for women; especially those that could become pregnant to make certain they are ingesting enough Folic Acid.

Everyone should look at their current supplement arsenal; especially those using a “pre” and “post” workout supplement as well as a multivitamin because each already come with high doses of Folic Acid. In fact, if you are pregnant you should ask your health care provider to evaluate your current dose if it exceeds the RDA. Acceptable range appears to be between 400 and 1,200 mcg.
VS
In this corner, in the orange trunks, from Central Florida, weighing in at a dose of 500 mg we have Vitamin C as ascorbic acid, and in this corner wearing the purple trunks, from the Tunasville somewhere in the Pacific ocean, weighing in at a dose of 5 mcg we have Vitamin B12 as cyanocobalamin. The consumer wants a clean and fair match. Now shake hands and go to your supplement corner.
“Wow, this guy is taking the metaphor thing way over the top.” Maybe you’re not, but You’re probably thinking,
you are wondering where I’m going with this right? Far too many supplement companies throw darts at a dosage board when deciding how much of what goes into their supplements. This approach can have disastrous consequences resulting in an inferior and ineffective formula. For instance, an oversupply or deficiency of Vitamin B12 can precipitate either a deficiency or oversupply of another. An oversupply of Vitamin B12 works against Vitamin C concentrations in tissue. An oversupply of Vitamin C will prevent the absorption of Vitamin B12. It’s a vicious cycle. On a more sober note the point is that you should purchase your supplements from brands you trust, or become an expert and help the rest of us!

The Digestive System – Part 1 WHAT HAPPENS IN THE MOUTH STAYS IN THE MOUTH, UNTIL YOU SWALLOW THAT IS! If your mouth begins to water when you see a beautiful woman you may want to get yourself checked out because “it ain’t supposed to happen like that no way no how.” Your mouth should water or begin secreting saliva when you see or smell a beautiful woman. I mean, when you see or smell food. Sort of like when a juicy and rubberized chicken breast pops out of the microwave like a pop tart springs into the air from a heavily calibrated toaster only to be snatched like a dog fetching a frisbee in the park. Yeah, right! Seriously either sight or smell of food triggers the secretion of saliva. Chewing the food breaks it down into smaller particles with a larger area to which more digestive enzymes can access a larger surface of the swallowed food. In the swallowing process the food is lubricated with mucus to make passage better and easier sort of like the coating you find on a tablet for easy swallowing. In this process a carbohydrate digesting enzyme known as amylase breaks down carbohydrate chains. This all happens as it’s about to pass through the esophagus in route to the stomach...but that’s Part 2 of this crazy article.
Carbohydrates
Carbohydrates get a lot of attention and are of particular interest to bodybuilders when in the final stages of their contest preparation. How low should I take my carbohydrates? When should I load up and on what types of carbohydrates? Should I “carb” deplete, and if so for how long? Well, we aren’t going to answer any of those questions; at least not here. Huh! As a launching pad I want to set a foundation and give you a snap shot of how the body uses carbohydrates.
FACT:

We all understand that there are two basic types of carbohydrates, complex and simple sugars. Our typical “complex” sources include potatoes, oatmeal, brown rice and green vegetables, while our “simple” sources can be found in the grocery store in the fruits section. There you will find oranges, strawberries and host of others but simple sugars are also found in juices, candy bars and soda.
glycerol molecule).
Complex carbohydrates are starches and are metabolized (broken down) by salivary amylase an enzyme secreted in the mouth as soon as you start chewing. Amylase breaks down polysaccharides into mono and disacchides.
FACT:
Simple sugars are especially important to bodybuilders and athletes because they become part of a process known as glycolysis. Glycolysis is responsible for the creation of glycogen the currency that fuels your training sessions.
and causing you to sweat your butt off those summer days in Miami, FL.
Oxygen has an important role in the metabolism of carbohydrates, but we’re not going to get the slightest bit technical. I will make this point, when carbohydrates are broken down in the presence of oxygen this is known as “aerobic respiration” and in the absence of oxygen the term used is anaerobic respiration.

Advanced Vaso & Adaptation Matrix NEW FROM
Juggernaut® HP’s Advanced Vaso & Adaptation Matrix was created to support your goals: go longer, go stronger, recover faster, boost power, and BUILD MORE MUSCLE.
JUGGERNAUT HP ®
HIGH PERFORMANCE SERIES
Your gym is your arena. You ARE a Juggernaut. You are unstoppable. Each time you step foot into your arena, you are prepared to crush it. You cannot settle for a supplement that does not match your merciless determination. You deserve an advanced, high performance, pre-workout optimizer that helps you get where you want to go. You deserve Juggernaut® HP - an all-new, cutting-edge formulation designed by Infinite Labs® specifically to explode your workout.
Applied Nitric Oxide Matrix The inclusion of Agmatine Sulfate in our proprietary Applied Nitric Oxide Matrix takes Juggernaut® HP to a whole new level. Agmatine Sulfate’s benefits to the athlete are unrivalled: increases endurance, enhances performance, decreases body fat, fights pain, supports the insulin response, improves mood, reduces stress, sharpens focus, modulates nitric oxide, and, as if that wasn’t enough, has antioxidant properties and helps remove nitrogenous waste products. We could have stopped at Agmatine Sulfate alone and you would have had an incredible supplement. But that’s not what Infinite Labs® is all about. Our mission, our goal, and our promise is to bring to market top quality innovative sports nutrition products. Products that not only meet your expectations but exceed them. We believe in providing you with great nutritional products that are tested and proven to work. We insist on using only the best, purest, and most functional ingredients available because your health and results should not be compromised. So we went into the lab and came out with a few more amazing, synergistic compounds that compliment Agmatine Sulfate in ways that will blow your training up. Beta-Alanine was our “go to supplement” for its ability to decrease fatigue and increase the total amount of work you can do during your training. Of course, we included CarnoSyn® Beta-Alanine because it’s the only “patented amino acid that increases strength, aerobic and anaerobic endurance, and delays muscle fatigue to train harder.” If you’re using another Beta-Alanine, it’s not patented for sport use. Next, we added Malic Acid, L-Norvaline, and L-Histidine. Malic Acid plays a central role in the energy production rates of all cells in the body. Malic Acid aids in muscle performance and reduces muscle fatigue, and therefore assists in managing pain. L-Norvaline is known to promote tissue regeneration and muscle growth. L-Histidine is required for the production of Carnosine, along with Beta-Alanine. Carnosine, which is highly concentrated in skeletal muscle, is a powerful intracellular buffer, and buffering acidity leads to increased endurance. Cellular Augmentation System Juggernaut® HP’s Cellular Augmentation System was designed to boost power and grow muscle. There aren’t too many supplements that have the longevity of Creatine Monohydrate, nor do many have the amount of studies to support them that Creatine does. Creatine Monohydrate is a foundational, pre-workout supplement that no serious athlete goes without. Creatine’s ability to provide intracellular energy via ATP production is unquestioned. It’s ability to help increase maximal force production is undeniable. But here at Infinite Labs®, we leave no stone unturned. That’s why, on top of Creatine Monohydrate, we’ve included Creatine MagnaPower®, Creatine Pyruvate, and Di-Creatine Malate - three forms of Creatine, each having unique and powerful benefits for the high-performance athlete. Creatine MagnaPower®, by Albion® Human Nutrition, is a proprietary, patented Creatine supplement. By chelating Creatine with Magnesium, Albion has increased the amount of the physiologically active Creatine which is truly available for muscle cell metabolism – resulting in much higher muscle energy. Pyruvate supplies energy to living cells through the citric acid cycle. Chemically bonding Creatine Monohydrate and Pyruvate makes Creatine Pyruvate more bioavailable and more stable, and allows for greater ATP production. Much like Creatine Pyruvate, Di-Creatine Malate chemically bonds the power of Creatine Monohydrate with an energy producing amino acid, in this case Malic Acid. Again, the pairing helps make Di-Creatine Malate more bioavailable, and due to its chemical structure, DiCreatine Malate helps expand cellular volume - also know as “the pump” effect. As cell volume increases, protein synthesis increases. Increased protein synthesis means BIGGER MUSCLES. The final piece of our Cellular Augmentation System is Bioperine®. “BioPerine® is the only product sourced out of piperine (an alkaloid derived from pepper) to obtain a patented status for its ability to increase the bioavailability of nutritional compounds. Secondly, it is the only source from piperine to have undergone clinical studies in the U.S. to substantiate its safety and efficacy for nutritional use.” Here at Infinite Labs®, we’ve included Bioperine® for it’s “blood boiling” effects. In other words, it is thermogenic in nature, and it’s the heatraising properties of Bioperine® that help increase the absorption of nutrients, which in turn leads to even more cellular pump. Enerplex™ Intensity & Focus Amplifier In Juggernaut® HP’s Enerplex™ Intensity & Focus Amplifier, Infinite Labs® aimed to boost focus, reduce exercise-related stress, help regulate blood sugar, and improve overall cognitive and physical performance. The gains associated with the amino acid Taurine are far-reaching in the body and are essential to the high-performance athlete. Taurine is necessary for normal skeletal muscle functioning, of course, but supplementation with Taurine has also been shown to prevent oxidative stress induced by exercise, significantly decrease weight, and lower blood sugar. Additionally, Taurine may act as an anti-anxiety agent in the central nervous system, helping to sharpen focus during training. Tyrosine is a precursor to neurotransmitters and supplementation with Tyrosine can increase their blood levels. Specific to the athlete are dopamine and norepinephrine. Dopamine has many functions in the brain, including important roles in behavior, motivation, punishment, and reward. Depleted dopamine levels can make the athlete feel less driven. Norepinephrine, along with epinephrine (a.k.a. noradrenaline and adrenaline, respectively), is directly involved in the “fight or flight” response. Norepinephrine increases heart rate, triggers the release of glucose, increases blood flow to skeletal muscle, and increases oxygen supply to the brain. Moreover, under stressful training conditions, Tyrosine can help reduce stress hormone levels.

IFBB PRO JOSEPH PALUMBO A little background I came to the United States at the age of 11 from Italy. We were not rich. We were a big family, (4 brothers and 3 sisters) living with my aunt. I was brought up with strong family values and hard work was the norm. I discovered bodybuilding shortly after coming to the United States. Because I came from old world Italy my father was very strict. There was no way in hell I could say... “Hey Dad, I want to weight train and be a bodybuilder!” I could just hear my father saying, “WHAT! YOU CRAZY? Go make the money. GROUND ZERO

FAMILY MAN BY DAY; SWAT BY NIGHT. There have been many challenges along the way. I think one of the most difficult is balancing a full time job as a SWAT Officer, training myself and others while maintaining a family, wife and four kids, and there is my son Michael who suffers from autism and he requires a special amount of attention. It would have been really easy to quit at any time and no one would have blamed me. When I was called to the Police academy, first with NYPD in 1990, then in 1994 for the suburbs of New York, all my bodybuilding had to stop. All of my focus needed to be on the Police force. Once I was settled in, I was able to balance a career on the force as well as bodybuilding. In 1999, I was named Police Officer of the Year and awarded the prestigious Medal of Commendation for going beyond the call of duty. In 2000, I joined the Elite Tactical Unit (S.W.A.T). From that point forward, work was going very well and I was able to focus on my training. After competing and winning many local shows, in the year 2000, I decided to compete in the National level. When I came in second place at the Jr. Nationals, I knew it was time to go for my pro status. Then during my preparation for the 2001 Masters Nationals and the USA, my wife’s father passed away. I had to take care of my children, support my wife and keep my head straight for the show. Everyone told me to forgo the show until the next year, but I couldn’t. I was too determined. I needed to continue. It all worked out and I won First Place and overall Championship. This was when I received my Pro card. You have to love it. If you don’t love it 100%, then don’t bother. I have been training for close to 30 years and I never get tired of it. I’ve always loved the challenge of going to the gym for a kick ass work out. I had to overcome many obstacles and I have multiple goals. This is discipline at its best.
Balancing career and bodybuilding... My job never interferes with bodybuilding. I never let bodybuilding interfere with my job. Law enforcement work is more than a job to those who choose it as a career. I am never “off duty”. I am a dedicated public servant, sworn to protect public safety anytime, anywhere. I always find time to train. Where there’s a will there is a way.

Training, diet, supplements…and aches, Oh my! When we began this journey into bodybuilding, we were able to walk into the gym and get right into lifting without warming up. Now years later, we are continuing to build muscle, but now the aches and pains are starting to show up and interfe with our training. Many of my patients suffer from joint pain, but an area of common complaint, is the elbow. Elbow pain can limit so many exercises, and in the long term this can alter your
There are many conditions that one can feel in the elbow, but the most common is Lateral Epicondylitis, or “Tennis Elbow”. In actuality, it is not a tendonitis condition, but So what’s the difference?
1. Make sure to train your body from a variety of angles. For example, chest would be beginning one week with incline barbell bench, followed the next week with flat dumbbell presses. 2. Change the rep range during your exercises. An example would be training a few exercises one week heavy, in the 4-6 rep range, then next week perform an exercise in the 12-15 rep range and even higher. The purpose is to hit both Type I and Type II muscle fibers. 3. Stretch the muscles before and after training. 4. Train both your flexors and extensor muscles of your forearm equally. 5. As soon as pain begins, seek a medical professional.

Steps to take to prevent this condition:
With
tendinosis, there is no inflammatory process, but rather a degeneration of tissue. A cell called fibroblasts forms collagen, but due to repetitive stress on the tendons, the collagen is formed irregularly and reduces the strength of the muscle. This leads to chronic injury and eventually tearing. Each time the collagen is torn, scar tissue is formed in the tendon, eventually leading to a thickened
1. Standing reverse curls with EZ barGrasp the EZ curl bar with a false grip. Keep your elbows close to your body and arms slightly out in front of you. Raise the barbell up and down in a controlled manner. Perform 3 sets of 12-15 reps.
Tip: Keep the weight light, and use perfect form.
After a few weeks, not only will you have “popeye” forearms, but balanced and strong muscles that will decrease your chance of developing tendinosis.

2. Hammer Concentration CurlsGrab a dumbbell and position your elbow against the inside of your thigh. Hold the dumbbell with a false grip. Lift the weight up and lower in a controlled manner. Perform 3 sets of 10-12 reps.

can even feel very stiff and difficult to straighten.
Three reasons why this occurs: 1. As creatures of habit, people go to the gym and perform the same routines and never change exercises.
There are many supplements that I believe strongly in; my top 2 supplements for recovery are: Glutamine MTX™ and Cyclo REM GF™.
2. Neglecting to train every muscle. 3. Failure to change angles of lifting during your training.

e th
d a i a p o R lym O It was 10 years ago when I stepped on stage for the very first time. That’s when my bodybuilding career started. At first, I was just doing it as a recreational sport to stay fit. Fast-forward a few years, I decided to earn a pro card in bodybuilding after the 2006 Nationals when I placed 7th and was considered, by Flex Magazine, as one of the listed competitors to watch for. I knew I had a future in the sport, so I began to take my training to another level.
Q&A
IM: What is next after the Olympia? AA: Honestly, I don’t know yet. I am just trying to get through Olympia and based on my placing, I’ll decide where I go from there. IM: What is your favorite cheat meal? AA: Hmmm! Lasagna, cheese pizza and oatmeal cookies. If I am invited to someone’s house, and they have those there, they need to hide them. IM: What supplements do you use? AA: Whey protein, BCAAs, Glutamine, Flaxseed oil to name a few.
IM: What is your favorite body part to train? AA: It is definitely my back. I can train my back for hours and still not be satisfied.
IM: What keeps you motivated? AA: My upbringing. My siblings and I did not have much growing up, so we were determined to work hard to get what ever we wanted.
IM: Where does “The Hybrid” come from? AA: It came from my photo with Per Bernal. Last year after winning the Light Heavy weight class at the USA’s, he decided to name me “The Hybrid” because he said that I am a combination of Bodybuilding’s greatest; Ronnie Coleman (from the back) and Flex Wheeler (from the front).
Continued...
IM: Is there a motto, proverb or quote you live by? AA: “Determination and dedication will always overcome obstacles.” IM: How crucial is nutrition vs weight training in your plan? AA: Both are extremely important to me. I am always looking to make vast improvements. I want to add more muscle to my frame so I have to maintain a consistent training regimen and also acquire the proper nutrition to help me grow, recover and recuperate.
My dream finally came true when I earned my pro card at the 2010 USA Championships. But, it did not come easy. After returning home from Vegas, I immediately began prepping for my pro debut at the Pro Bodybuilding Weekly in Tampa in June of this year. I took 1st place and earned a ticket to compete in Mr. Olympia in the 202 Showdown. Two weeks after winning in Tampa, I hit a wall that put a sudden stop to my training. On July 8, I was involved in a horrific motor-vehicle accident. I am fortunate to be walking, let alone be alive. I suffered some cuts, bruises, and lacerations on my right leg. I was unable to walk for a couple of weeks. My spirit was broken and I was devastated. I was devastated because Mr. Olympia was right around the corner and I couldn’t train for it. I resumed training 6 weeks out from the Mr. Olympia, and I am sorry to say that I don’t think that I will be at my best, but nonetheless, I will make my presence felt. If you see me a tad bit off my game, and by the time you read this, you’ll understand why.

Peak cardiac performance. Studies have concluded that one can greatly benefit from L-carnitine due to its ability to improve cardiovascular health.1 In addition, L-carnitine plays an important role in energy metabolism. The increased fatty acid oxidation works on preserving muscle glycogen and improving oxidative ATP production. While improving the effects and response of exercise, L-carnitine may also delay muscle fatigue.*2
IM: Congrats on your win at the Tampa pro. Tell us about the show, what where your feelings on the win? AA: I was ecstatic! A bit stunned, but ecstatic. IM: Did you expect to get this far, this soon? AA: Honestly no. But not too many rookies can say “I have won my pro debut.” I still have a long way to go before I can prove myself. There are many great athletes that I will battle for years to come, but I promise that my fans will see the best of me each time I step on stage.
Carnitine MTX™ may have a positive influence on the increases of anabolic hormone by assisting in reduced muscle damage.*3

IM: How did you change your training after your accident? AA: After the accident, I was probably at the lowest point of my life. Just coming off a win in Tampa and on my way to the Mr. Olympia, then BAM! I hit a road block. I couldn’t train for numerous weeks, I started to lose muscle size in my legs. I was depressed, frustrated, and devastated. When I finally resumed training, I had to train every single body part twice a week. I trained with very high intensity and volume to play “catch up”.
