Don't Miss Black Friday

Get ready to shop — and not just on Black Friday. Retailers have started releasing details about their holiday season deals, and many markdowns have already started! Black Friday is the Friday following Thanksgiving Day in the United States (the fourth Thursday of November). It has been regarded as the beginning of the Christmas shopping season, and most major retailers open very early (and more recently during overnight hours) and offer promotional sales.

Do Your Research If you are planning on making a special purchase of a big-ticket item based on a Black Friday sale, it is important to remember to check consumer reports and read consumer reviews of the item before you decide to make the purchase. If the product is bad, just because you got it for cheap doesn’t make it a good deal. Take the time to make sure it’s a quality product and worth getting up early or staying up late for the price cut. Browse the Deals Before You Go Knowing which retailers are going to have what on sale and when before the big day will help you decide where and when you want to go, will help with budgeting, and will help you see who you have left to shop for. As you browse the deals, make a list with the product, who it’s for, the price, the location, and any special hours for the sale. Compare Prices Before You Head Out Shop around to see what the average retail price of an item is before you leave, so you can go to the store that is offering the best deal. Check to see what usually comes with the item you are looking for, and what the store is offering. Many stores offer”stripped down” versions of products, which means you will have to spend money on accessories. Take time to see what accessories you will need to determine if the deal is really worth it or not. Bring Ads with You Bring sales ads with you so you can have them available if you need to call a store out on their “lowest price guarantee.” Most stores have a policy that will allow them to match or beat a lower advertised price, but will require you to show the ad as proof to process the price difference. Generally speaking, the store policy will not apply to online advertised deals, even in the case of the store website due to online only deals, but you can always print the web page where you saw the deal with the advertised price and give it a shot. Use Store Credit Cards I’m not saying go out and max your cards. You will still have to practice budget savvy shop-

ping and make regular payments to avoid hefty interest charges, but many stores offer extra discounts and warranties if you make purchases on your store card. This, when paid in full as if it were cash, can offer extra savings benefits. Early Bird and Night Owl Specials Many stores advertise early bird deals, gene rally between 4 and 11 a.m., to help draw in the crowd, but also offer night owl specials between the hours of midnight and 4 a.m. to draw in the crowd that doesn’t like to get up early, but would rather stay up late. Cashing in on these deals is not only a good way to beat the crowd, but it’s a good way to guarantee the getting will be good, because typically, once the deals are gone, they are gone. With Black Friday comes the shopping, and not just for clothes and toys. Scores of travel companies offer discounted hotel rooms, vacation packages, rail passes, rental cars, cruises and flights. Hotels and resorts around the world are offering incredible booking incentives like complimentary gifts and on-site activities plus major discounts on rooms. If you yearn to escape to a warm locale to break up the cold winter months ahead, browse around online, look up your dream destinations, and see what kinds of deals you can find. One of the best holiday gift: Studies show that an experience — a night at a favorite hotel, a trip down south — will, ultimately, provide greater happiness than a new TV or a necklace. Like other holiday sales, some of the most compelling travel deals will be revealed at the last minute. This is typically true of airfare, so keep an eye on the Twitter and Facebook feeds of your preferred airlines for announcements, and look at your inbox if you’ve signed up for their emails. Also check out with your local travel agencies, and booking sites such as Expedia, and visit the websites and social media feeds of your favorite travel brands on Black Friday weekend to ensure you don’t miss their sales. In the meantime, many hotels have already announced deals. A number of upscale hotels and resorts plan to slash the price of rooms in half if you book on certain days and, in some cases, within a particular hour. (Note: The promotions are often for particular rooms, subject to availability, and may have blackout dates.) Whatever you buy, get ready and have a happy shopping!

Winter Storm Safety Tips By Jessica Wong Allstate® Blog

-Keep trees and shrubbery trimmed. Some shrubs and plants may benefit from being covered with burlap to prevent damage from snow and ice. Remove all tree branches that hang over your roof and walkways. Branches that get heavy from ice and snow can break off and fall. If you’re unable to reach these areas safely, consider hiring a professional.

inter is here, which means we should expect colder temperatures and an increased risk of ice storms and significant snowfall in the coming months. Like hailstorms, snowstorms can cause significant damage to your vehicle and your home. While you may not be able to stop a storm from damaging your property, you can usually help reduce the amount of damage it causes. Here’s a list of tips to help you stay safe before, during, and after a winter storm. BEFORE STORM

-Consider installing storm windows or covering the in-

-Keep your eaves troughs and downspouts clean of leaves and debris so snow and ice can’t collect in them. -In the event that a weather emergency requires you to stay at home for a few days, be prepared by creating an emergency preparedness plan and have a kit ready with flashlights, batteries, blankets, some non-perishable food, and bottles of water. -For your vehicle, schedule

a winter maintenance inspection with your mechanic, and install winter tires and new wiper blades. Also be sure to create a winter safety kit and store in your trunk so you are ready if you are on the road when a winter storm strikes. DURING A STORM -Stay off the roads. A blizzard can make roads impassable and leave drivers stranded.

If you need to go outside to clear snow, dress in layers, take breaks, and stretch in between shovelling. -To help prevent pipes from freezing and bursting, keep your home heated to a minimum of 18°C. Open cabinet doors in your kitchen and bathrooms to allow warmer air to circulate around the plumbing.

-Keep everyone, including

steps of your home clear of ice and snow to help prevent falls.

-If you’re going to be away, drain the pipes by shutting off the main water line and then run your taps until the water runs out. You should also flush all of the toilets to remove water from the tanks.

Become familiar with your community’s severe weather warning system and make sure every member of your family knows what to do in case severe weather hits. Learn about the emergency plans at your workplace, as well as at your children’s school and/or daycare.

AFTER A STORM -Once the storm has passed, check the snow accumulation levels on your roof, particularly on the downwind side where blowing snow typically collects. If there’s been a lot of accumulation, consult a professional contractor who can remove excess ice and snow safely.

-Clear snow from gas or propane meters, and exhaust vents.

PET LOVERS

The Not-y Pet Present List! Or What NOT to Get Your Pet For Christmas!

R

ecently, my hubby and I spent the day at a Pet Fair in hopes of finding the perfect holiday presents for our dogs and cats. The day turned mostly into disappointment however, as much offered, didn't pass our safety test. Throughout the venue, you could hear the SQUEAKY/SQUAWKING of play toys created to copy the distressed sounds of wounded or otherwise traumatized animals. The idea being, to activate the prey-drive in your dog/cat to play-attack, and 'kill the toy'...Well guess what? These toys are also priming your pet's prey-drive to attack the real animal as well! Hunting and Ratter Dogs specifically utilized for such tasks aside, unless you want to train your pet to potentially kill smaller pets in your home or out at the park, stay away from death-wailing toys. If you have cats that go outside and you don't want them to bring home half-dead birds and mice, don't buy them squeaky toys that mimic prey animals and stimulate your cats' natural, hunting behaviour! If you don't want to encourage your dog to attack smaller dogs, cats, squirrels, ground-hogs, your pet guinea pig or gerbil etc... Don't buy them squeaky toys! Rather, look for fun, squeaker-less toys, that do not rev up your pets' prey-drive. “Pet Adoption Corner” Sponsored by the Easyfinder

Help support this “Pet Adoption Corner” by advertising your pet store or services here 1-877-935-7503 “Together, we can make a difference” The Easyfinder Team

Stay away from pet toys made with strings, tinsels, buttons, or other little pieces for eyes and other decoration that could be chewed off and accidentally swallowed. Also unsafe, are balls made from any sort of material, that are too small for your pet. A tennis ball size, is too small for any dog bigger than a toy breed. Dogs as large as German Shepherds and Golden Retrievers all too often end up dead or in Emergency from choking on tennis-sized balls. Make sure the ball is clearly over-sized, to remove the risk of accidental choking. Safer still, get

them a well-made, Frisbee-style toy you can throw for them! I cannot understand how 'rawhide' treats haven't been banned after being named the 'most dangerous pet chew ever.' See: http://www.dogsnaturallymagazine.c om/rawhide-dangerous-for-dogs/ But they are a BIG NO-NO in your pet's Christmas stocking! Also disappointing, was seeing rows upon rows of 'sterilized', smoked/baked bones. I'm sure you've seen them in your local pet shops as well. I honestly don't know who can look at one of these bones and believe they are safe for their dog? They are brittle, and many stink because they are rancid. Its worst offence is as a 'tooth-breaker.' These bones have often broken pet's teeth which is extremely painful, as well as expensive to fix! When chewed, hard pieces crack off, which if swallowed, could choke your dog to death, or travel to the intestines and cause severe damage there! Another 'tooth-breaker' is the recently popular 'Antler Bone.' These concrete-tough bones with no 'give' are frustrating, rather than satisfying for a dog to chew and could be dangerous. Now, I'm all for dogs chewing on bones. They relieve stress and flood the body with endorphins. However... Choose the safety of a well-sized, fresh raw bone. NEVER, never give a cooked bone to a dog! (And always monitor your pets during their chewing playtime!) Raw bones are softer, and when chewed, 'shave' off, rather than break off into dangerous chunks. A fresh, raw bone will not stink like those chemically processed bones and there is actual, good nutrition in a raw bone as well as the endorphin-flooding satisfaction your dog receives while chewing. Your dog will LOVE YOU for it! ~~

YOUR ANGEL MESSAGE

The Angel of Restitution

S

ometimes, the challenges in our lives get pretty tough. So tough in fact, we almost feel like we cannot go on. We feel emotionally spent. After months or even years of 'life' getting in the way of our best-laid plans, our Spirit feels crushed. Our soul, traumatized, even beaten down.

Crossword Puzzle

Well, if you want to be HEARD CLEARLY, take the thoughts you have and want the angels help with, and speak them out loud! If you want the angels help, ask for it, clearly and out loud! Call upon The Angel of Restitution, then with her help, do the things that ought to be done, by YOU! The Angel of Restitution is here:

If you have been feeling this way in some part of your life, please know, that there is help for your exact condition. Whatever issue it may be that you feel has gotten the 'best' of you, it can be dissolved, and removed from blocking your way to happiness. The Angel of Restitution is here to help lift you up and fill you, with that which you need to get back into alignment. Please do not hesitate to call upon her! Remember, that the difference between you receiving and really feeling the help of the angels or not, can be as simple as asking for their help, out loud! It is important for you to ask the angels for help out loud, (even if just a whisper) and here's why! Our minds are crammed full, with literally thousands upon thousands of thoughts that we are constantly ruminating over, inside of our heads.
