Sweets, Treats and all the Deets…

Desserts are a memorable part of the reception. From the ceremonial aspect of the cutting of the cake, or the endearing moment that a couple shares the first bite together. Camera lights go off everywhere, toasting occurs, and festivities continue.

Dessert trends have changed over the years and have become another pinnacle moment to embrace the overall feel of the wedding environment. Whether it be seasonal and tied to the time of year or a carryover from the style of food that is being served for dinner, make it as special and unique to you as a couple and something you will certainly enjoy. Here are a few ideas to consider when selecting what the dessert will be.

Pair your Pops with your favorite spirit for a signature treat at cocktail hour, as a delicious dessert option, or surprise guests with a late night snack before your big send-off. Everybody will be popping off the dance floor for our famous pops!

1. Do you want the dessert to be a centerpiece?

A Masterpiece of Art placed on the middle of the dance floor for all to see prior to serving? Maybe an amazing, tiered cake is the way to go.

Tip: Make sure to have a cake knife and trowel for the photos and always ask the caterer to bring an additional one as well. This ensures that if your original one is a family heirloom it stays intact.

2. Not a cake person

Have a small cutting cake for you and your sweetheart to cut and surround it with other favorites such as chocolates, tartlets, or even cupcakes with the same flavor as the cake for guests to enjoy. Variety is always a big hit!

3. Are you getting married in the warmer months of the year?

Provide guests a way to cool off and satisfy their sweet tooth! Ice cream sundae bars with all the toppings can be fun. Think gelato, sorbet, or a variety of popsicles.

Tip: This can also be a way to accommodate any dietary needs, i.e., vegan, gluten free, dairy free.

Offer warm assorted pies or crisps paired with coffee or espresso bars. Hot cider with cinnamon sticks and whipped cream will make your guests all soft and fuzzy inside.

Tip: Check with your caterer and venue. Some may be able to have Bailey’s, Kahlua or bourbon to add an extra shot of warmth to your hot beverage.

5. Want it all?

You can do that too! Create a dessert display with all the decadence.

Ideas are mini crème brulees, chocolate mousse, individual tiramisus, truffles, cheesecake, cake pops, cookies and brownies. Have a variety for all the palates to enjoy!

Tip: Don’t want a bunch of leftovers? Ask your vendor if they can put the minis in classy disposables and provide to go boxes towards the end of the night to encourage guests to take some with them.

Keep in mind that a sweet at the end of the evening may be the last thing your guests put in their mouths, which makes it just as important as the first piece of food that they eat. It is what they will leave the event dreaming about.
