Department of Transport (DOT) Information Update: Office of Drug and Alcohol Policy & Compliance The Office of Drug and Alcohol Policy & Compliance advises the Secretary on national and international drug testing and control issues and is the principal advisor to the Secretary on rules related to the drug and alcohol testing of safety-sensitive transportation employees in aviation, trucking, railroads, mass transit, and other transportation industries. The Office publishes regulations and provides official interpretations of drug and alcohol testing, including how to conduct tests, and the evaluation and treatment procedures necessary for returning employees to duty after testing violations. The Office also coordinates the Department’s involvement with the President’s National Drug Control Strategy annually. The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Office of Drug and Alcohol Policy and Compliance (ODAPC) has recently updated its Employee Handbook use for DOT Employers. Employee Handbook This publication was produced by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) to assist safetysensitive employees subject to workplace drug and alcohol testing is about the requirements 49 CFR part 40 and certain DOT agency regulations. Moreover, nothing in this publication is intended to supplement, alter or serve as an official interpretation of 49 CFR 40 or DOT agency regulations. This publication is for employee educational purposes only. (English version). For more information follow the link: https://www.transportation.gov/odapc/employeehandbook-english . DOT employers may want to consider sharing the Employee Handbook with their DOT covered employees. Furthermore, if you are a DOT employer please be sure to sign up for ODAPC List Serve to get updates from ODAPC. For more information follow this link:

https://www.transportation.gov/odapc/ListServe_Notices. Only important messages are sent out by e-mail so this will not clog up. The most important thing to note here is that additional valuable program resource information is included on the DOT Website at this particular link: https://www.transportation.gov/odapc as well as a link to get you to the individual DOT Agencies Websites, which include resource information specific to that Agency (FAA, FTA, FMCSA, PHMSA, FRA, and Coast Guard). It would be ideal if you note that the Employer Handbook, https://www.transportation.gov/odapc/employer_handbook has not been refreshed up till now. However, keeps on being a significant asset for DOT bosses and covers consistence commitments over the DOT Agencies. That document, alongside various records, including the Substance Abuse Handbook, will probably be refreshed not long from now to mirror the FMCSA clearinghouse Impacts.
