WELCOME

We are a boutique Australian based tour company specialising in historical and cultural tours of Europe, travelling on Europe’s great trains. We offer only a limited number of tours each year, all personally led by the company principal, Mr Stan Klan, a published historian and former history teacher, who has been introducing people to his beloved Europe since 1977. Travel on Europe’s Great Trains

Meals

Europe’s trains are the finest in the world - from the High Speed French TGV streaking across the continent at 320kph to quaint Swiss mountain trains. A rail journey permits you to meet the locals, to stroll down to the restaurant car and bar, or simply to take in the ever changing scenery - vineyards, alps and lakes. All rail travel is in First Class reserved seats, except on some local trains where seats are not reservable.

Nothing on a group tour causes more angst than the question of meals: pit-stops for re-fuelling before dashing out to a concert or to do some more exploring? Or a gourmet experience every night? Should expensive wines be costed in, the non-drinkers subsiding the drinkers?

3 Nights Minimum Stops Travellers quickly tire of whistlestop coach tours which move on to a new hotel every night. On the Great Trains of Europe Tours, every stop is at least 3 nights, giving you time to unpack and start feeling like a local.

Quality Central Hotels Were you ever on a tour where your ‘hotel’ was a motorway chain motel an hour outside Venice or Paris? On the Great Trains of Europe Tours we use centrally located hotels - on the Grand Canal in Venice, behind the Forum in Rome, next to the KuDamm in Berlin. In cities we use 4 star boutique or 5 star hotels and the highest category historic village inns available in the countryside.

Luggage Transported on Ahead Have you tried a rail journey but found loading your luggage a pain? No problems on the Great Trains of Europe Tours: your luggage is collected from your hotel room on departure morning and is transferred on ahead to await your arrival in your new city.

Limited Group Size The maximum number of participants on each tour is limited to 25 guests. This makes the groups small enough to avoid the “herd mentality” yet big enough to offer a variety of new friends.

On the Great Trains of Europe Tours we include in the tour cost the first evening meal in each new city or village, at a local trattoria or bistro. Drinks are at your own expense. On the other nights your Tour Director either recommends restaurants at different price levels or accompanies you to dinner.

Quality Assurance - A Personal Touch All tours are personally escorted by an Australian historian who has 35 years experience in introducing people to his beloved Europe: he is not only the Tour Director; he is also the Company owner, guaranteeing a level of quality control few companies can match.

Who travels on the Great Trains of Europe Tours? While all are welcome, the tour member profile is usually in the 40+ age bracket, but families are most welcome. Advice of any mobility issues will be appreciated at the time of booking. Our tour members (some up to their 8th tour with us) have an interest in history and art but don’t want in-depth lectures from professors; they love food and wine but don’t take too kindly to ‘pompous git’ experts; they enjoy new experiences and have a sense of humour. While the majority of our tour members are Australians and New Zealanders we have also welcomed (and become friends with) Americans, Canadians, South Africans, Malaysians and Brits. All are welcome. All tours are conducted in English.

Full Sightseeing Programme How much to include? How to provide for first timers who want to see everything and also for those experienced travellers who want to have a more leisurely time? The eternally popular “must see” sights are included in an orientation sightseeing tour on arrival in each new city. On some tours, clearly explained and optional excursions are offered. We’ll need to know your choices before departure. Freedom to do your own thing, or a full sightseeing and activity program on the Great Trains of Europe Tours: the choice is yours. 2

“I have taken 5 Great Trains of Europe tours in the past 3 years. Stan’s tours are the group tours for those who don’t like group tours - well organised but not regimented, flexible with plenty of free time; no rush, no bustle.” Jackie Wood, Melbourne, VIC.

“Excellent hotels in the middle of it all, good value for money, sympathetic and knowledgable Tour Leader. Stan, your 5 minute thumbnail sketch of Jewish history at the Ghetto in Venice was a tour de force.” Anne and Michael Ford, Minlation, SA.

“Thanks, Stan, for a most enjoyable tour. You have tempted me to return to study some more history (after 50 years!)” Scott Walker, Brisbane, QLD.

“Life is a collection of experiences. Let Stan be your guide” Noel and Alwynne Towler, Brisbane (8 time tour members on the Great Trains of Europe Tours)

Stan Klan

T ce RAC 19 K IN 77 EUROPE

In 1977 I was a beginning teacher of History at a grammar school on the Gold Coast. One day half the class were missing: they were on a Geography excursion. “Why can’t we have a History excursion, sir?” one student asked. “OK,” I replied, “let’s go to Europe”. We were studying the Causes of the First World War at the time. At the end of the lesson, two boys asked, “did you mean that, Sir, about an excursion to Europe?” I had travelled Europe as a student and undertaken some post graduate study there, so why not?

THE DEPART ANY DAY OP DATES DON’T SUIT? LIKE A SHORTER TOUR? SOMETHING MISSING?

Most of our friends - some up to their 8th tour with us - prefer the quality tour leadership which Stan provides - however, there are other unescorted alternatives. Some of our tours can be taken in the “unescorted” mode, departing any day, at a saving of 25% on the same escorted tour. In this case you will be provided with hotel accommodation, all rail fares and detailed sightseeing notes. Tours suitable for the Depart Any Day mode are Eastern European Capitals and Winter Wonderland Tours. Swiss Mountain Rails Tour is available only in the unescorted Depart Any Day mode.

INDEPENDENT TOURING - Depart Any Day Some tours offered by Great Trains of Europe Tours are also available as independent (unescorted) tours. There are a few differences between an escorted tour and an independent, “Depart Any Day” tour:

• You may cut and paste. For example you may choose the last 6 days of the Swiss Mountain Rails Tour followed by the first 4 days of the Winter Wonderland Tour. Ask for a costing.

A Tailored Itinerary - just for you? With more than 30 years experience in introducing people to Europe, we are uniquely placed to help you arrange an individual itinerary, providing rail travel & accommodations. Your request might be as simple as “ the first 12 days of the Off the Beaten Path Tour, but in April rather than in September” or as complex as “three weeks in February through the great opera houses of Europe with opera bookings in each city”. Recent examples of individual itinerary requests include: (a) A family of three from London to Paris on Eurostar, 3 nights in a 4 star boutique Left Bank hotel in Paris, the high speed TGV to Grindelwald in Switzerland for a 4 day White Christmas, a Glacier Express day, Cisalpino train on to Venice for New Year in a Grand Canal-front hotel, then on to Rome. (b) 10 days from Venice to Paris with several days on little Swiss mountain trains – Bernina Express, Glacier Express, Jungfrau Express and the steam train above Interlaken. (c) A 3 week family visit to Italy and Switzerland by train, staying in small villages, but also must visit Pompei, Florence and the Bordeaux vineyards. All these customers are now friends and have requested assistance in planning their next European holidays.

Dutch Bulbfields, Chateaux Gardens of France, English Villages & Gardens

BLOSSOMS & BULBS Day 1: AMSTERDAM  The tour commences at check-in to our city centre hotel, our home for four nights. We rest from the flight, or take an afternoon canal cruise to get our bearings, before meeting our fellow travellers for a Welcome Drink and Dinner. [D] Day 2: AMSTERDAM Every day on the Great Trains of Europe Tours begins with a full buffet breakfast. We spend a full day in one of the world’s finest bulbfields, the Keukenhof Garden, with 80 acres of tulips, daffodils, hyacinths and other flowering bulbs, shrubs, ancient trees, exhibitions, gurgling streams, flower parades, and seven themed gardens. Little wonder we need all day to visit the Keukenhof! There are restaurants and tea shops. [B] Day 3: AMSTERDAM We head into the countryside today (who will be first to see a windmill?) to the Gardens of the Dutch Baroque Palace Het Loo, the Royal Palace from the 1680s until 1982. Established by LeNôtre, the gardens feature perfect symmetry, axial layout with radiating gravel walks, parterres, fountains, basins and statues. [B] Day 4: AMSTERDAM Today we visit the historic and beautiful Dutch city of Delft, home of Vermeer, and imagine what Amsterdam might have looked like centuries ago. [B] Day 5: PARIS  A great rail journey today. Our luggage is taken on ahead as we take our reserved First Class seats in the sleek Thalys train, for Paris at 300kph. On arrival we settle in to our 4 star hotel on the Left Bank. On our city sightseeing tour we begin our acquaintance with the City of Lights. [B,D] Day 6: PARIS  A quiet morning to stroll in the nearby Luxembourg Gardens or to visit a museum. Monet’s waterlilies are finally on view in their original context at l’Orangerie. See them in real life this afternoon on our visit to Giverney and Monet’s Garden. We enjoy the flower garden called Clos Normand and the water garden with its famous Japanese Bridge covered with wisteria, which should be at its best this week. Then the weeping willows, and the famous nympheas (water lilies). [B] Day 7: PARIS   A high speed French TGV train today into the Loire Valley and the Garden of Villandry, created by Dr Joachim Carvallo, from 1906, in 6

complete harmony with the Renaissance architecture of the chateau. Great horticultural skill was deployed, especially in the use of vegetables. An arbour of grape vines leads to a great parterre, conceived as a Garden of Music. On the other side of the canal is a Garden of Love. [B]

Day 8: NORTH YORK MOORS  Another of the great rail journeys of the world as we farewell Paris and join the 300 kph Eurostar through the Channel Tunnel. Customs requires that we travel with our luggage today. In London we join British Rail in the tracks of the Flying Scotsman to the mediaeval city of York. We see the Minster and the Shambles, then transfer to our inn in the North York Moors village of Pickering. A pub dinner tonight. [B,D] Day 9: NORTH YORK MOORS  This morning we visit the gardens of Castle Howard, laid out by Sir John Vanburgh in the early 18th century. Castle Howard is the palace of the Flyte family in “Brideshead Revisited”. We lunch (with Claude Jeremiah Greengrass?) in the village of Goathland, “Aidensfield” in the TV series “Heartbeat”. Here we join the historic North York Steam Railway home to Pickering. [B] Day 10: NORTH YORK MOORS  This morning we visit historic Harewood House. Its garden is classic Capability Brown - forming an idyllic rural setting. We move on to the spa and garden town of Harrogate for a cream tea or a stroll around its famous gardens. Can you spot Agatha Christie? She “disappeared” here in 1926. [B] Day 11: LAKE DISTRICT  We journey this morning through the Yorkshire Dales, immortalized in James Heriot’s “All Creatures Great and Small” novels and television series. A village pub lunch stop, then on to the Lake District where we settle into our Lakeside hotel. [B,D] Day 12: LAKE DISTRICT  This morning we visit a very special Lakeland garden, Holehird, which specialises in Lakeland flora and offers sweeping views of Lake Windermere. A bit of whimsy on the way home: we drop in on Beatrix Potter’s garden, Hill Top – watch out for the fierce bad rabbit. [B] Day 13: LAKE DISTRICT  We take a magical rail journey today through some of the Dales’ and England’s finest scenery on the historic Settle to Carlisle Railway. A pub lunch, an afternoon cream tea and visits to some more of the Yorkshire Dales’ picturesque villages. [B] Day 14: COTSWOLDS  Our British Rail journey south today brings us to the Peak District of Derbyshire, to visit the gardens of historic Chatsworth House, dating from 1687. Another Capability Brown garden, Chatsworth has been famous for its beauty since Jane Austen’s Day. We move on in the late afternoon to the Cotswolds where we stay in a village inn in the pretty riverside village of Bourton-on-the Water. [B,D] Day 15: COTSWOLDS  This morning’s sightseeing takes us to picturesque Cotswold villages of honey-golden stone: Lower Slaughter, Stow-on-the-Wold, Chipping Campden. After a village pub lunch we visit one of England’s favourite gardens Hidcote Manor, designed and developed by Major Lawrence Johnston, who scoured the world to secure rare and exotic species for this extremely pretty garden, a series of “outdoor rooms”. MOROCCO & THE SOUT The lands on either side of the Straits of Gibraltar have blossomed and been scarred by centuries of conflict between Berber, Moorish, Jewish and Christian civilisations. Today they are an example of tolerance and peace. Day 1: MARRAKECH Our tour commences today on arrival at Marrakech Int. Airport. Transfer to our hotel inside the Casbah for Welcome Drinks & Dinner. [D] Day 2: MARRAKECH This morning we commence our exploration of this fascinating city, one of the four former Imperial capitals of Morocco. Outside the red or ochre walls which give the city its nickname ‘the ochre city’, there is a modern Western city with boulevards echoing the period of French control of Morocco. Then we explore the old city where the 12th century Koutoubia mosque’s 77 metre minaret dominates the city skyline. We end at the Djemaa El Fna - the vast square in the heart of the old city. Hawkers, snake charmers, buskers……enjoy. [B] Day 3: MARRAKECH A lazy morning for further exploring or to enjoy this oasis, with the snow-capped Atlas Mountains as a backdrop. This afternoon our sightseeing tour takes us through the labyrinthine souks & medinas. Bargain for fabric and jewellery. [B] Day 4: FES Moroccan Rail is certainly the best in North Africa, and today we take our First class seats in an air-conditioned carriage for a journey from the desert landscape of Marrakech through the fertile coastal farmland, the vineyards and orchards of Meknes to another of Morocco’s former imperial capitals, Fes. [B,D] Day 5: FES Fes was founded around 900AD and its medina - old city - is UNESCO heritage listed. Our sightseeing begins at the historic and beautiful Blue Gate this morning, and takes us to the very heart. Fes is considered the spiritual capital of Morocco: it has madressas - universities - that are 1,000 years old & a synagogue dating from the 17th century. [B] Day 6: FES A day to visit the souks and bargain for local leather goods and jewellery. The Medina al Bali, with many kilometres of winding pathways and thousands of shops, is one of the largest pedestrianonly urban areas on Earth. Be sure you have the hotel name written in Arabic to show to any teenager when you get lost. For a 20 dirham coin ($2) he will escort you home to the hotel. [B] 14

BLOSSOMS & BULBS

Day 7: TANGIER On Moroccan Rail again today, back through the vineyards of Meknes to the most northerly point of Morocco - Tangier, on the Straits of Gibraltar, located at the mouth of the Mediterranean. Its colourful history since its foundation by Carthage (5th century BC), makes Tangier a truly cosmopolitan port city. [B,D] Day 8: TANGIER For the first half of the 20th century Tangier was an international zone partitioned between France, Spain and Britain. It is said to have been a hangout for spies, drug runners and international intrigue, and also the original setting for Rick and Ilsa and Sam in “Casablanca”. The Hollywood moguls felt that the word Casablanca was more mellifluous (Would you go to a movie called “Tangier?”). Our city sightseeing takes in the medina & the harbour. [B] Day 9: TANGIER A day in the souk for shopping and to visit the area where mosques, synagogues and churches rub shoulders happily. It is possible. In the afternoon take a stroll along the sandy beach or the harbour-front or pay an art pilgrim’s visit to the ruins of the Grand Hotel Vila de France, loved and painted by Delacroix and Henri Matisse. [B] Day 10: GRANADA Our intercontinental journey takes 35 minutes today on our ferry across the Straits of Gibraltar to Spain. Spain’s rail system is amongst the best in Europe. We take our first journey - Algeciras to Granada, the jewel of Andalusia. [B,D] Day 11: GRANADA Andalusia was under Moorish (Muslim) control from the 8th century until the expulsion of both Moors and Jews by the Christian monarchs, Ferdinand and Isabella in 1492. Perhaps the greatest gift to the world from this period is the UNESCO listed Alhambra, with its inspiring Moorish architecture, beautiful squares, gardens & fountains. It is the focus of our city sightseeing today. [B] Day 12: GRANADA Today, we enjoy the magnificent Generalife Gardens. Then in the afternoon, wander the timeless streets to absorb the unique history of Granada. The Gothic Catholic cathedral containing the tombs of Ferdinand and Isabella, the Grand Via and the Hospital Real should be included in your strolling. [B] Day 13: SEVILLE We take the high speed ATR train today & stop over for a visit of Cordoba on the way. Our city sightseeing tour of Cordoba includes the UNESCO listed historic centre of Cordoba, shaped successively by the Romans, Arabs, Jews & Christians. The Moorish Catholic cathedral was formerly & obviously, a mosque until the expulsion of the Moors in 1492. Later, our ATR delivers us to Seville. [B,D] Day 14: SEVILLE A Moorish city, Seville was conquered by the Christian king Ferdinand III in 1248. The Moorish architecture still dominates the city. The two centuries following Columbus’ voyages were the Golden Age of Seville as all trade from the Americas passed through Seville. Buildings from this era - the cathedral and the Plaza de Espana - feature in today’s city sightseeing. [B] Day 15: SEVILLE We visit the Islamic Alcazar Palace this morning and the remainder of the day is free for shopping. [B]

The seven wonders of the world declared by over 100 million votes

AROUND THE WORLD IN Did you know?

We have all long bemoaned the passing of all but one of the 7 Wonders of the Ancient World. Only the Pyramids at Giza remain. At the turn of this millennium, a search was begun to identify the New 7 Wonders of the World. In keeping with the spirit of the new millennium, a vote took place online & it was decided to close the voting and name the winners on 07/07/07. After 100 million votes the winners were declared. They are, in the order of our visits: 1. The Great Wall of China 2. The Taj Mahal 3. The Treasury at Petra, Jordan 4. The Colosseum in Rome 5. The Mayan temples of Chichen Itza in Mexico 6. Machu Picchu in Peru 7. Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio Day 1: BEIJING THE ADVENTURE BEGINS! Join your Qantas flight today via Hong Kong to the Chinese capital, Beijing. Transfer to our 5 star hotel, our home for 3 nights. Meet your fellow travellers over drinks. See below for Entombed Warrior Pre-tour option. [D] Day 2: BEIJING An exploration this morning of the historic sights of Beijing - Tiananmen Square and the Temple of Heaven. A quiet afternoon in the shops or the museums. [D] Day 3: BEIJING Today’s excursion takes us to the first of our 7 New Wonders of the World - the Great Wall of China. Marvel at the sheer magnitude of the Great Wall. It winds up and down across deserts, grasslands and mountains, stretching approximately 8,850 km (5,500 miles) from the East to the West of China. Construction began in the 4th century BC & continued on and off until the 17th century AD. [B] Day 4: DELHI Travelling on Cathay Pacific via Hong Kong, we arrive tonight in Delhi [dinner in flight] and are transferred to our 5 star hotel where we settle in for 3 nights. [B] Day 5: DELHI Delhi is a city of teeming millions, with significant monuments of the Hindu and Islamic civilisations which have shaped her and of the era of British colonialism. High tea & a lazy afternoon? [B,D] 16

BLOSSOMS & BULBS

Day 6: DELHI An early start on the express train to Agra and our second New Wonder of the World – the Taj Mahal. This exquisite building is a monument to undying love. It was built by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his third wife, Mumtaz Mahal. The Taj Mahal is widely recognized as “the jewel of Muslim art in India” and one of the universally admired masterpieces of the world’s heritage. The construction began around 1632 and was completed around 1653, employing thousands of artisans and craftsmen. Back to our Delhi hotel. [B,L] Day 7: PETRA, Jordan Today’s Royal Jordanian Airlines flight brings us to the Jordanian capital Amman. On arrival we drive south and settle in to our hotel at Petra. [B,D]

Day 8: PETRA To beat the crowds, we have an early start for our visit to our third New Wonder of the World – El Kazneh, the Treasury at Petra. There is evidence of human settlement here since 7,000BC. This is an awe-inspiring experience. A massive façade, 30m wide and 43m high, carved out of the sheer, dusky pink rockface and dwarfing everything around it. It was carved in the early 1st century as the tomb of an important Nabataean king and represents the engineering genius of these ancient people. A quiet afternoon in Petra village or back to the Treasury. [B] Day 9: DEAD SEA On to our resort hotel on the banks of the Dead Sea, the lowest on the planet at 400 metres below sea level. The water has 4 times the ocean’s concentration of salt & you can’t sink. Watch the sun set across the sea & desert. [B] Day 10: ROME Our Royal Jordanian Airlines flight to Rome has us in the Eternal City by midday. That afternoon we stroll through the streets for a taste of la dolce vita. [B,D] Day 11: ROME Wonder number 4 today, as we visit the Colosseum - more accurately the Amphitheatre Flavia - built in the first century AD to seat up to 50,000 spectators who came to watch gory games involving gladiators, wild animals, and prisoners. Construction began around A.D. 70 under Emperor Vespasian. Modern sports stadiums still resemble the Colosseum’s famous design. The remainder of the day is spent exploring other remnants of Classical Rome - the Pantheon, the Forum. [B] Day 12: ROME Catholic Rome today. We visit St Peter’s and the Vatican. Or a quiet day in the shops and museums. [B] Day 13: LONDON To avoid a 20 hour day on 3 different planes, or an overnight flight, we break our journey to Mexico with a 2 day shop-over in London, at the midpoint of the tour. Day 17: LIMA, Peru A lazy morning on the Cancun beach or in the markets, then we cross to the airport for our intercontinental LAN flight to Lima, Peru’s capital. Given the remoteness of Machu Picchu & the nature of airline timetables within South America, we are forced to break with our preference for multiple-night stops while in Peru. [B]

Day 25: SANTIAGO A last free morning on the beach or in the markets. After lunch we transfer to the airport for our flight to Santiago, Chile, where we stay overnight in an airport hotel. [B]

Day 18: CUZCO Our short flight takes us to the ancient Inca capital of Cuzco (at 3,500m). The afternoon is free to adjust to the high altitude. [D] Day 19: MACHU PICCHU A train journey today takes us by the Sacred Valley to Wonder Number 6, Machu Picchu. Our guide helps us explore the mysteries of the site. Often referred to as the “Lost City of the Incas”, it is perhaps the most familiar icon of Inca civilization. The Incas built the estate around 1450, but abandoned it a century later at the time of the Spanish Conquest. Although known locally, it was unknown to the outside world before being brought to international attention in 1911 by the American historian Hiram Bingham. [B,L]

Day 26: Our flight to Sydney today crosses the International Dateline, losing a day. [B] Day 27: We arrive home in Sydney this evening. Connect to a domestic flight for your onward journey to your home city.

Day 20: CUZCO A quiet morning [or a return visit to Machu Picchu to view the sunrise] before our afternoon train journey back to Cuzco. [B]

Day 21: LIMA An opportunity to look at Cuzco and its distinctive (and earthquakeproof) architecture, before our flight back to Lima. [B]

BOOKING CONDITIONS Tour Operator: Great Trains of Europe Tours (ABN 75 325 010 987) is a Licensed Travel Agent (Licence # 3217475) providing the consumer protection of the Travel Compensation Fund (Member # 9497). We are members of IATA (Licence # 96836610) and the Concorde Independent Agents’ Network. Costs: All costs in this brochure are expressed in Australian dollars and are based on airfares, and land transport and accommodation costs, and Australian dollar exchange rates effective as at July 1st, 2013. Exchange rate fluctuations in the price of any service provided, beyond the control of Great Trains of Europe Tours, may be passed on to travellers, right up to the date of departure. A deposit of $2,500 per person will guarantee a place on your chosen tour (unless already filled, in which case you will be advised of your place on the waiting list. With a maximum tour size of 25 travellers, tours often fill early). Full final payment is due 90 days before commencement of the tour. Please make payment by cheque to “Great Trains of Europe Tours” or by bank transfer as follows: Heritage Bank, Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia. BSB 638-060 Account Number 111 097 34. Great Trains of Europe Tours currently does not accept payment by credit card. Cancellation Policy: Cancellation at any time after the deposit is paid will result in the forfeiture of the deposit. Any booking cancelled between 90 days and 45 days before departure will incur a 50% cancellation charge on land content and up to 100% on airfares, depending on the airfare used. Bookings cancelled within 45 days of departure will incur a 100% cancellation charge. Travel insurance will cover cancellation because of illness, death in the family etc. Travel insurance is therefore considered mandatory. Travel Insurance: A condition of joining a Great Trains of Europe tour is either the purchase of travel insurance through Great Trains of Europe Tours, or documentary evidence of a sufficient level of travel insurance purchased elsewhere. European Rail Travel: The standard of rail travel in Europe ranges from small and basic local trains to luxury High Speed International trains. On rare occasions European rail companies may change timetables, classes of travel available or rolling stock within the period of validity of a travel brochure. Descriptions of trains & routes provided in this brochure are accurate at the time of printing and provided in good faith. It is not possible to request rail seating either facing or with back to the direction of travel. Many European trains change direction during a journey. Baggage allowance: Porterage of one suitcase per person is included in tour cost. Coaches: When itineraries take us away from rail routes and coaches must be used, a seating rotation system applies. Hotels: European hotel rooms - even in 4 or 5 star hotels - are often smaller than in Australian hotels. Single rooms, particularly, can be very small. Should a traveller who has requested a single room wish to have a quote for the cost of single occupancy of a

ER WONDERLAND TOUR

MOROCCO & THE SOUTH OF SPAIN

double room, please ask. Tea and coffee making facilities are rare in European hotels, as are in-room security safes. In some European countries, government environmental agencies restrict the use of air-conditioning in hotels to the summer months. Travellers sharing a room on a twin share basis will be asked their preferences re a double bed or twin beds, but no guarantee can be given that your request will be met. Hotel star ratings, where provided, are those of the country in which the hotel is situated, and vary from country to country. Other Important Advice: All tours will proceed if a minimum of 12 travellers have paid deposits by 90 days before scheduled departure. In the highly unlikely (unprecedented) event that there are insufficient travellers for a tour, you will be offered either (i) a full refund of all monies paid, (ii) a modified cost structure for a smaller group, or (iii) a place on an alternative Great Trains of Europe Tour. Each tour is sold as a package and there can be no refund for any element of the tour (eg. a meal or an excursion) not utilised by the traveller by her / his own choice. Tour costs have built into them the costs associated with researching tours, communicating with overseas suppliers, brochure preparation and marketing. Great Trains of Europe Tours does not claim or imply that some of the inclusions in our tours may or may not be available at a lower price direct from the overseas supplier. Travellers are reminded, however, that purchases made direct with overseas suppliers are generally not covered by Australian Travel Agents licensing protections or the Australian Travel Compensation Fund. Most photographs used in this brochure were taken by the Tour Leader on past tours, but some have been provided by hotels, rail companies or Tourism Boards. Photographs are indicative only and we cannot guarantee that a traveller on a Great Trains of Europe tour will personally see all of the places depicted in them. Great Trains of Europe Tours reserves the right to decline any reservation or booking request, and may at the Tour Directors discretion terminate any person’s involvement in the tour due to disruptive or anti-social behaviour. Great Trains of Europe Tours does not accept responsibility for any injury, damage, loss, delay, change of schedule or other events which are beyond our direct control such as, but not limited to war, terrorism, civil disturbance, industrial action, acts of government or of God, or mechanical failure such as aircraft, trains or coaches. Great Trains of Europe Tours cannot be held responsible for changes to provision of services by local European suppliers, but we will do all in our power to provide an alternative service of equal standard to that advertised, or make a cash refund of the difference on the spot. Contract: The contract between the traveller and Great Trains of Europe Tours, entered into by your signing the Booking form, shall be construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Queensland.
