The company manufacturer’s [3][4] pharmaceuticals formulations and API for India and other countries.[2] The company was established in 1995 as an enterprise and in 2004 became a public limited company. As per Mumbai pharmaxil and Chemixil association the company manufacturers and exports to countries like Iran, Iraq and Asia Pacific.[5][6][7][2] In recent EUIndonesia Business Dialogue (EIBD) conference Taj Pharma Group was listed amongst top 10 pharmaceutical companies in EU by 2008 sales. The Group sales 16,234 ($M) making the company 12 ranked in EU by 2008 sales.[8]

Drug Approvals In Dec 2010 Taj Pharma received tentative approval from US health regulatory department to sell generic version of Topiramate Tablets,[19] used in treating central nervous system diseases, in the American market. On Sep 18, 2010 the FDA Postponed the Decision on Controversial Breast Cancer Drug and the Federal health regulators have delayed a decision on whether to expand approval of the drug Avasiz (trade name) (Taj Pharmaceuticals) for breast cancer. [20] In 2010 Taj Pharmaceutical Ltd. had announced that its generic drug Methimazole has been granted final approval by U.S. health for first time in India. [21] In 2009 company received FDA Approval for generic Methimazole for the first time in India for production and sales. [22][23] In 2011 Taj Pharma and AstraZeneca commercially launched Gemcitabine HCI[24] for Injection
in 200 mg and 1 g single dose vials in the US market. The drug Gemcitabine is used alone or with other treatments/medications to treat certain types of cancer including breast, lung, pancreatic, ovarian).[25][26] In, December 2010 Taj Pharma received tentative approval from US health regulatory body to sell generic version of Topiramate Tablets, the drug is used in treating central nervous system diseases.[27][28]
Research and Development Taj Pharma updated on the Research of Bevacizumab (Avastin) for metastatic breast cancer in World Pharmaceuticals Market. The company also request a hearing in US for Bevacizumab (Avastin) as a treatment option for metastatic breast cancer. The EMA has confirmed that Bevacizumab (Avastin) in combination with paclitaxel has been shown to enable women with metastatic breast cancer to live longer without their disease getting worse (progression-free survival).[29]
Operations The company is said to be involved in manufacturering of finished formulations (Branded Medicines) , API (Active Pharmaceuticals Ingredients), Few Chemicals, Agro and FMCG products.[2]
Pharmaceuticals In 1995 pharmaceuticals wing only had a schedule M certification for pharmaceuticals products manufacturing in India. Taj Pharmaceuticals established its manufacturing unit in Gujarat because of government policies in 1999 with WHO / GMP licence. In 2003 the company revived all the old manufacturing units and approached the FDA Gujarat for 1,600 new pharmaceuticals drug permissions on US FDA unit for the first time in India. According to the Trade Mark Registrar the company owns about 450 brands and 4600 generic manufacturing permissions in India now.[1] According to the export data analysis the company was the largest exporter of generic medicines to the Middle East countries like Iraq, Turkey and Iran.[2] The company medicines are present in France, Georgia, Egypt and CIF countries.[30]
Active pharmaceutical ingredients According to the Gujarat FDA, the company has hitch API manufacturing facility based in Sarigam (Gujarat) India.[2] Initially in 2004 the API division of Taj Pharmaceuticals manufactured only 30 API’s (active pharmaceuticals ingredients) or bulk drug manufacturing facility. Now In 2009, the company claims that the API division added about 200 active pharmaceuticals

ingredients[31] to their manufacturing list and supply these raw materials to all countries.[2] The API division has WHO / GMP Certifications and UK MHRA at their manufacturing plants based at Gujrat and Maharashtra.[32][33]
Agro Products The group is known to have a new Agro division "Taj Agro"[34] in the companies with FMCG processing units and largest supply chain of farmers.[35] In 2009 the Agro division was awarded the largest egg powder manufacturing company in Asia.[35] The Agro Subsidiary was also nominated for the best FMCG Company in Asia award to be held in Delhi 2010.[2]
Fine Chemicals In 2009 the chemical division was introduced and had very specific chemicals to be be manufactured. The company purchased the Mul Chem a US based company in Jan 2010 with all the products and technologies.[11]
Etanercept In India Etanercept ENBROL vialÂŽ Taj Pharma is the second company in India to manufacure this injection after ENBREL injÂŽ Wyeth. This injection is prescribed for ankylosing spondylitis (Its a joint pain which affects your back), juvenile arthritis the arthritis-related condition that develops in childrens normally, psoriasis, and rheumatoid (which is inflammation of the joints) and psoriatic arthritis. The injection is a tumor-necrosis factor (TNF) blocker. TNF alpha is known as a protein that the body produces during the inflammatory response the body's reaction to injury.[36] Acquisition In December 2010, Taj Pharmaceuticals, a subsidiary in the United States, acquired Mulberry Chemicals in the United States. Mulberry Chemicals is licensed by the DEA to manufacture five controlled substances. "This acquisition reflects our strategic resolve to be a more active player in the pain management segment in the US,". In the year 2006 the company acquired the sick industries agro manufacturing units to start the new agro division in India.[10][11]
Controversies In 2009 Taj Pharma and ArcelorMittal of Luxembourg had a major conflict in regards to domain name owned by Taj Pharma, The decsion was in favor of ArcelorMittal at the End by WIPO.[37]
