HEN WE STARTED our journey in September 2009,

the global economy was at an interesting crossroads. The gloom of economic meltdown had hit the world, resulting in great institutions tumbling down. At the same time, the sun was still shining on certain parts of the world—mainly two economies—India and China. And many rightly hold that these two economies will be the growth drivers over the next many years to come while the rest of the world recovers or continues to reel under the impact of the slump. In India this growth, a far more real one compared to its mighty neighbor, will be driven by the thousands of entrepreneurs willing to explore the growth potential offered across the globe. The last 12 months have been exhilarating. We have had a chance to closely see how companies were set up by some of the brightest minds in the country. We also keenly observed how certain entrepreneurs were restructuring their businesses. Besides, there were several serial entrepreneurs starting new ventures. The edition you have in your hand—the first anniversary issue of Entrepreneur magazine—is a special one. This is authored by some of the finest entrepreneurial brains in the country. The question that we put across to them was aimed at finding out what drives them and what sets them apart from others. Hence, we invited a number of them from across the country and from a wide range of businesses— from Mumbai’s Muchhad Paanwala to Bollywood Badshah Shah Rukh Khan—to tell our readers snippets from their entrepreneurial journey. Many of the celebrated columnists for the anniversary issue have also given advices to aspiring entrepreneurs, which they have collated over the decades of their entrepreneurial journey. For example, Shiv Nadar, the technology business genius, urges that it is time entrepreneurs go back to the roots to nurture where they came from. “This is where the untapped potential, the drivers and the true wealth of our nation, reside,” he adds further. When we look back, the numerous entrepreneurs my colleagues and I met kept giving us strong belief that entrepreneurship is the way forward for India. It is also true that a few of the companies started in the last 12 months may have folded up, but those numbers are few and far between. Read on and find out what these 60-odd entrepreneurs have to share with you. Get inspired and take off…

Keep the Faith!
