Karen’s Letter When the days get shorter and the temperature gets colder women dress up so their bodies don’t get cold. I hate the cold and the shorter days but love the fashion! Unfortunately the bad side to the cold are our dry skins. For many, the cold, clear days of winter bring more than just a rosy glow to the cheeks. They also bring uncomfortable dryness to the skin of the face, hands and feet. For some the problem is worse than just a gentle, tight, dry feeling. These people suffer with skin so dry it flakes and cracks, even resulting in eczema. (in which the skin becomes inflamed) As soon as you turn the heaters on indoors your skin starts to dry out. It doesn’t matter how you heat your home, whether it be with oil, wood or electricity. The skin still gets dry! In this edition we are concentrating on those dry skins and what we can do to ensure our skins look their best. We will also look at ways we can eliminate sun damage and sun spots. IPL (Impulse Light Therapy) is the most effective treatment and promises amazing results. We will look at why, how and what to look for. What’s new at Le Beau? The Accent XL procedure The Accent XL procedure is a technique which rejuvenates aging skin in a non-invasive, radiofrequency based procedure by treating two separate layers of skin in a single treatment. The Accent XL also requires fewer treatments than many laser treatments.    Is Accent XL approved for use in Australia  Yes, Accent XL is approved for use in the Australia by the TGA.    Is Accent XL covered by insurance companies?   Because the Accent Xl procedure is considered a cosmetic procedure, not a medical procedure, it is covered by our medi spa insurance.    What is the cost of Accent XL?   Depending upon the area being treated, the cost of Accent XL treatment usually ranges from $280 to $600 per treatment.

Treatment Focus: Treatment for D Algomega Warm Treatment This treatment is from Thalgoâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Headquarters in France! This procedure will nourish, repair and restore comfort, suppleness and radiance to your skin. From the first treatment, this delicious treatment deeply nourishes and moisturises the skin, instantly restoring its suppleness, softness and auto-defence mechanisms! This treatment is recommended in a course of 6, once to twice a week. Ingredients : Complex algomega, blend of rapseed, soy and corn oils, gelatine for the neck. What happens in the treatment : Once the skin has been perfectly cleansed, toned and energised with an exfoliant, your algomega extract / concentrate is gently massaged into the skin. Then my favourite part â&#x20AC;&#x201C; the 15 min massage with the Extreme Comfort Cream (night cream). This cream stays on the skin and your Algomega Mask is applied. This mask will cover your face and the neck and it is left on the skin for 15 min.

Health Watch - IPL – The An IPL is a great treatment for sunspots, as long as you are also an appropriate candidate for the procedure. Good candidates for this treatment are patients with a light – medium dark skin tone and superficial hyper pigmentation. IPL is not an appropriate treatment for melasma, which is a deeper type of hyper pigmentation. This can actually be worsened by the heat of the IPL, so it is always important that the clinic goes through the correct process to ensure it is the right treatment for you. No treatment should ever be performed without a consultation, a deep look into your medical history and a test patch – this is imperative! People with dark skin are never happy to hear this but it is worth it! Generally a series of treatments are required in order to achieve optimal improvement/results but the rate of success and patient satisfaction is high. These treatments are best performed in winter as it is paramount that you strictly avoid the sun and tanning when undergoing a series of IPL treatments. Avoid sun exposure 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after your IPL treatment and wear sunscreen at all times. Impulse light therapy (IPL) can be used on pigmentation on the face, neck, hands, arms and other areas. What you can expect: You will notice the sun spots getting darker and then flaking off. It is important to not touch the crusting and allow the natural peeling process to occur. How does it work? The light from the IPL turns from light energy into heat energy. It targets a specific chromophore (colour) in the skin. The wavelengths

nswer To Sun Spot Removal used in the particular IPL targets the colouring of the melanin and destroy it. Usually a package is purchased for the treatments. IPL is a very serious procedure and should be treated as such. IPL practitioners should never be chosen on price alone – but also on their experience and training. I was horrified to discover whilst conducting an interview that a girl who appeared quiet and confident was not a qualified therapist but a doctors clinic clerk. She was hired as a receptionist, he had her trained to administer IPL, microdermabrasion plus other treatments! She would have had no real knowledge of the skin and the different skin conditions. So just because it is a Dr’s clinic, remember it is not always a Dr who performs the treatment. He just sells it. To be honest, you may not always want a Dr to perform the treatment as his experience may be limited, as I have been directly informed by most IPL distribution companies. So stay aware and informed – do your homework. At Le Beau our therapists must have years of experiences as a therapist first and must be a qualified aesthetician, they are then put through a vigorous training program and exam. Even if a new therapist has been trained elsewhere, they are put through our program and exam, run by Luminous IPL.
