Best Western Plus Mosborough Hall Hotel
Our journey begins in Sheffield at the historic Mosborough Hall. Ownership of the Hall dates back to 1180 when it was held by Robert de Stutville, the High Sheriff of Yorkshire. Over the years, the Hall passed through the hands of various Lords of the Manor until 1420, when Robert Carey, a knight under Henry V, was granted the Manor of Mosborough after defeating a Spanish knight. Fast forward to 1496, and William Carey,
son of Robert, was born at Mosborough Hall. William later married Mary Boleyn, the older sister of Anne Boleyn. In 1525, Mary gave birth to a son, who was allegedly fathered by King Henry VIII.
1100s
Today, Best Western Plus Mosborough Hall Hotel offers a perfect blend of charm, tradition, and modern sophistication, making you feel right at home. The hotel features 46
bedrooms, including double rooms, executive rooms, and two feature rooms—one of which boasts a traditional four-poster bed.
Are you brave enough to stay overnight in the Lord John Darcy Suite? It's said to be haunted by the White Lady of Mosborough Hall, a tale dating back to the late 1600s. A governess at the Hall became pregnant after an affair with the squire, who initially promised her money
and a cottage. However, he later withdrew his offer due to financial difficulties. Their final argument escalated when she threatened to tell his wife, leading to a tragic outcome.
Starting from just £70.50 per person, the Haunted Ghost package includes overnight accommodation, a two-course dinner for two, and a full English breakfast. Guests will also enjoy complimentary Wi-Fi and parking.
Best Western Beamish Hall Hotel
A family-owned hotel, the Best Western Beamish Hall Hotel has been proudly welcoming guests to their Country House for over 15 years. Bought early in the 2000s, this estate has undergone extensive refurbishment and development, all of which you can benefit from with their original bar and restaurant, tea rooms and Monboucher suite – all steeped in deep historical roots.
1200s
These historical roots began in the 13th century where the Beamish Hall was gifted to two Norman families by William the Conqueror as a thank you for helping him successfully invade England. Subsequently, five generations of families have called the hall its home where, according to architectural fashion, the Hall changed hands again in the early 17th century to the Lord Mayor of Newcastle. After an impressive
total of 700 years of private home history, the hall is as sentimental as ever when it’s now built a name for itself as a hotel under ownership of a family who has lived there.
The Best Western Beamish Hall Hotel elegantly offers you and your guests afternoon tea in their tearoom, once the old family library and honing some of its original bookcase features today!
Additionally retaining many of the building’s original elements is The Stables Bar and Restaurant where you can sit back, relax and take in the impressive architecture surrounding you such as stone block floors and centuries-old, exposed beams. Lovingly restored to now home 43 bedrooms and The Charron Apartment, the Best Western Beamish Hall Hotel has all you need for a memorable stay.
Lumley Castle Hotel
Well, Lumley Castle Hotel will be your dream come true when it can, not only, offer you amenities rich in class and elegance, but also sentimental roots with over 600 years of history.
Originating in 1388, Lumley Castle is credited by Sir Ralph Lumley, a solider who played a key role in the defence of Berwickon-Tweed, who was allowed to convert the
1300s
original Manor Home into the castle we know it as today upon approval from the Bishop of Durham. Subsequently, the Earl of Somerset revelled in its beauty before Lumley Castle was returned to Sir Ralph Lumley’s grandson who accompanied Edward IV into battle to oppose the late Queen Margaret’s forces. A couple of centuries after King James I stayed there, the bishop of Durham then handed over
Lumley Castle to the University of Durham where students studied during their first year.
Lumley Castle’s history is still commemorated by the city of Durham today where students take part in ‘The Lumley Run’ twice a year.
Now, Lumley Castle is a well-established member of the ‘No Ordinary Hotels’ group, so book your stay to become a part of its glorious history! A truly, gorgeous, English
castle seeped in history, elegant décor, and natural surroundings, you’ll find modern comfort in their Courtyard rooms ranging from classic, double and superior sizes. All rooms are uniquely decorated with some situated in what was the original block of stables, complete with sloping eves and exposed beams. A grand castle setting with grand historical roots, you are guaranteed a grand stay at Lumley Castle.
