IMMIGRANTS, YOU ARE NOT ALONE! Danna Gabriela Suárez Hernández Ninth grade. Sorrow, necessity, injustice, all that is what immigrants have to deal with every single day. All humans are dreamers, but some of them must leave their regular lives to have better ones, in which they can live comfortable, secured and independent. They put their lives in real danger, to commence a trip to find a new beginning, with nothing in their pockets but fostered by hope. They are trying to find a new place far from situations that torment their hearts, why cannot we give them the opportunity to start over? This is not about compassion, I am trying to look out the way in which we can support them. We can support those brave fighters, who fight for a new beginning, fight for something new without knowing what would happen next. They fight with dreams as battle arms, they fight against indifference, fight against storm and cold, fight for rights, fight against injustice, and fight against all of us, because we do not understand their situation, we assume that immigration is easy and is only a craving, consequently we are passing on this huge social issue to others instead of helping others to manage it. We are really apathetic, because we think that the word “me” is the only thing that matters, ignoring others and ways to help them, ignoring the meaning of being world citizens, ignoring the way in which we can build a better world for me and others, and giving up about this world. I apologize. Sorry for being selfish, sorry for not accepting that the way the world is going is our fault, sorry for saying “it is not affecting me, I don’t care”, sorry for thinking that it is a lot of people in a community, instead of seeing a community made by different people. I apologize for not believing that unity can help to promote positive things. I definitely think that something that is created in unity, remains united. If we do not convey the idea that I can be bigger supporting others and we can support others to be bigger, we should not think that we are contributing to our society. Immigrants are in hard situations, they need strength and people who trust them. They need positive words, they must gain self-confidence to make those dreams a reality. And, if there is any possibility to help them in tough situations, why do I have to hold myself back? We must give our best, trying to strengthen a world based on the idea that it is made by dreamers and for dreamers. I personally believe that the words “nation” and “nationality” must change their meanings, because it is not only where you were born, it is where you build a better personality, and where you can fly with open wings and be able to make your dreams become true. Immigrants, you are not alone. You belong here, and you belong there. We are together!
