A SCHOOL NEWSLETTER Event on Culture Day There have been some cultural events at I. OŠ Celje like every year. On Friday 4.2.2011, poet Tone Pavček visited our school “party’’. At first he talked about his verse ‘’WORDS’’. There were a lot of other events. Our students in theater club prepared cultural program. They were stimulated by images of life and creativity of Anton Tomaž Linhart, a dramatist. In the second part we watched an excerpt from his comedy Mayor’s Micka. The costumes were used by the older folk costumes. The scene was nice, as well as costumes. Students previously saw the play Mayor’s Micka in modern version in the Slovenian Theater Celje. Our National anthem Zdravljica was sung by school choir. At the end of the event all classmates rewarded all the performers with strong applause, which was a beautiful reward for all the efforts. All the performers and spectators went home happy and enriched with another cultural event. SELMA ALIĆ, 9. b

TECHNICAL DAY in Maribor

Tuesday, 10. 2. 2011. Classes 9.a and 9.b had a technical day in Maribor – the second biggest city in Slovenia. The trip was very interesting and we had a great time. At first we went to the center of city. We visited an art exhibition, it was made by artists Veli and Amos one year ago. Then we went to Lent - the oldest part of the city. We saw beautiful swans next by the river Drava. We visited the oldest grapevine in the world. This grapevine is more than 450 years old and we are very proud of it. At the end of the day we went to a wine cellar, that's under land and it's very big. Then we ate a snack. Finnaly we arrived to the railway station and then we came home to Celje at 4 pm. Trip to Celjska cottage

We have been on a school trip to a hill called Celjska cottage. It was shrove Tuesday and some students were dressed in costumes; for example I was dressed as Pippi Longstocking, my classmate Anja was a soldier and some of our teachers had wigs too. As we were walking up the hill, I felt tired. After all there was snow and ice and we walked for about 2 hours. We were tired, when we reached the top, but happy that we made it. I ordered tea and ate chocolate bars. I didn’t even have enough time to relax we had to go back to school. But it was a great experience and I will remember it forever.

A school dance for the ninth class

When the ninth class is finishing the school year, they organize the school dance. I am in the ninth class this year and I am looking forward to this dance. In November we were practising for the dance. Each of us had to find a partner to dance with. We were practising about eight dances. These are Cha cha cha, English waltz, Wienna waltz, Rumba, Samba and some others. Rumba was the most difficult for us. We were very clumsy. It was a lot of laughing and joking. It was really funny. In April we will practise again. I hope we will learn a lot and become very good dancers. This year the school dance will be on 10th of June in our gymnasium. We will invite our parents and relatives. We will put on nice clothes, the girls will put on some make up and the boys shirts instead of T-shirts. After the programme we will have a party. I'm sure we will remember this day forever.

A sports day with different activities

18.2.2011 was a sunny day and we had a sports day with many activities. We gathered in front of school at 8.00 o’clock. We could choose many activities: swimming, ice skating, country hike and fitness with aerobics.

Many students from class 5 or 6 went to the swimming pool in spa Podčetrtek and there they had fun. Students from class 6-9 went ice skating, on a country hike to Šmartinsko Lake or fitness and everywhere they had fun. We came back at about 12.00 o’clock and we were tired.

Children's Parliament

17.1.2011 we had a children's parliament at our school. From each grade (6-9) there were a president and vice president. The president on our school is Evelin Einspieler. The topic was media for a better childhood. Every president from each class reported on the activities in there class then we expressed our opinions about facebook, youtube and other media. We found out that most students have a facebook profile. In the end we decid that children should spend more time outside with friends or family and not at home on facebook or playing computer games.

Two days later Evelin Einspieler and other students went to municipal parliament. First they saw a video that students from school OĹ Lava made. Then there were some people from TV stations and newspaper so that children could ask them some questions and then discuss them. They had a great time and they learned something new.
