Tony Carreira received his Bachelor of Applied Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Waterloo and has been President of K-Line Insulators since 1990. Prior to that he worked at Ontario Hydro (now Hydro One) in areas encompassing distribution and transmission design, planning, construction and maintenance. He is a member of CIGRE, CSA, CEA and a Senior Member of IEEE. He has chaired the IEEE TF 15.09.04.01 “Guidelines for the In-service Classification of NCI Damage” as well as ESMOL TF on IEEE Std 957 “Guide for Cleaning Insulators”. He was also appointed an Associate Expert of WG 32 and an Associate Member of B2-AG-06. In addition, he sits on various committees, working groups and task forces within these organizations.

He started his career in 2002 as a project manager for Alstom Power where he was in charge of large projects, first based in Africa and later in the US. In 2008, he was appointed Head of Operations in India and the US. Since 2012, he is responsible for the bushings activities of Alstom Grid.

Review of 30 Years Development of Silicone Insulators: The Chinese Experience LIANG Xidong Professor Tsinghua University, China

LIANG Xidong received the B.E., M.E., and Ph.D. degrees in high voltage engineering from Tsinghua University, Beijing, China in 1984, 1987 and 1991. He did his research in UMIST, England as a visiting scholar from 1991 to 1992. Then he was employed in Tsinghua University as an associate professor from 1993 and as a full professor from 1997. JIA Zhidong received his B.S and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from Xi’an Jiaotong University in China. From 2001 to 2003 he worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow at Tsinghua University. Now he is a Professor at the Graduate School at the Shenzhen Campus of Tsinghua University. Klaus-Dieter Haim studied Electrical Engineering at the University of Zittau earning his Doctor’s degree in 1985 in the field of MV network design and optimization. His career covered a diverse range of assignments, from a research project for EDF to serving as a Professor in Algeria. Between 1994 and 2005, he worked as Head of Production for medium voltage cable accessories at Cellpack before assuming his current position. He is a Senior Fellow for electrical power systems and networks.

Frank Drumm has a Diploma in Electrical Engineering from the Univ. of the Federal Armed Forces Munich (UFAFM), Germany. He later worked as Research Assistant at the Institute of High Voltage Engineering with specific focus on lightning research and protection, receiving his PhD degree in the process. He joined TE Raychem in 1999 working as Global Product Manager for MV Insulators, LV/MV Cable Accessories and leading the Cable Acc. Dev’t Group, where he manages a broad portfolio of products. Matthias Freilinger studied electrical engineering with focus on high voltage at the TU Munich and finished with a Master of Science degree. He started working on high voltage cable systems at Brugg Cables in Switzerland as Product Manager in the HV Accessories business unit. Later, he was appointed Head of the Product Management Department at Pfisterer Ixosil and is now Sr. Manager in the Sales & Project Departments. Heiko Jahn received his engineering degree in 1995 and later worked as researcher in the field of composite insulators. In 2001 he joined Siemens PTD and worked in the field of high-voltage circuit-breakers. He received his doctoral degree in electrical engineering in 2003 and since 2006 is Head of the High Voltage Test Laboratory of FGH Engineering & Test GmbH – a company of the CESI Group.

Alexander Eigner received his electrical power engineering degree (Dipl.Ing. (FH)) in 1998 from Munich University of Applied Sciences and his Master’s degree in theoretical electrical engineering from the same university in 2001. He was a development and test engineer at the switchgear manufacturer Driescher Moosburg, Germany from November 1998 to August 2001. He joined TE Connectivity Raychem GmbH, Munich in 2001 as an application engineer for cold applied joints and has been the head of the high-voltage cable accessories department since 2007. His special field of interests includes electrical stress control, insulation materials and nonlinear dielectrics. He is a member of IEEE, VDE, and CIGRE and active in various working groups.

His major research fields include high voltage insulation and electrical discharge, flashover mechanism on contaminated insulators, electromagnetism and application of plasma and high voltage technology in biological and environment engineering.

Igor Gutman (PhD) has a professional experience in high voltage engineering that covers 30 years. His main areas of activity include dimensioning, maintenance and diagnostics of outdoor insulation with particular emphasis on composite insulators. He is active within CIGRE (A3, B2, C4), IEC (TC 36) as well as IEEE and author of more than 110 papers that have been published internationally.

New CIGRE Principles for DC Insulation Selection Chris Engelbrecht Consultant EPRI, Netherlands Chris Engelbrecht has been active in the field of insulation co-ordination since 1990. He convened CIGRE WG C4.303 that has just completed the guidelines for the selection of HVDC insulators with respect to pollution. Presently, he is Convener of CIGRÉ Working Group C4.23 as well as a member of IEC TC36 WG 11.

Selection Criteria for AC/DC Insulators at NamPower Gerton Mouton Transmission Engineer, NamPower, Namibia Gerton Mouton obtained a Bachelor degree in Engineering (Electrical/ Electronic) at the University of Stellenbosch, South Africa, before starting work as an Engineer-in-Training at Telecom Namibia. In June 2010 he joined NamPower and was sent to South Africa to work on a research project where different power line insulator materials were tested, under HVAC and both polarities HVDC excitation, over a one year period in a marine polluted environment. During this time he enrolled and completed the MSc. Engineering program at the University of Stellenbosch.

Evaluation of Performance of Polluted Insulators: A Statistical Approach Alberto Pigini High Voltage Consulting, Italy Alberto Pigini received a Doctoral Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Milan. He worked for more than 35 years at CESI, first as a researcher, then as Research Manager and finally as Division Director, responsible for a number of aspects of HV electrical system, including environmental impact and generation. He is a Distinguished Member of CIGRE, Fellow of IEEE and active in various WG and Committees at these bodies. He now acts as a consultant to international clients and is a Columnist for INMR.
