MEET

THE ARTIST

AMAZING VIBES October brought me the experience: The Artist Awards, a brand new cool event happening in Romania. On the 11th and 12th of October, I was in Craiova, Romania to attend this award party gathering where I got to spend time with a lot of my colleagues, artists and content creators, to perform and… receive awards for my work.

I had a great time! Actually, I was reallllly excited because I received an award that means a lot to me. I received the best album award for “YO”, an album that is part of my soul, part of who I am. I also received the award for the most subscribed artist on YouTube and for the best female artist. It made me feel special and I want to thank all of my fans who voted for me and supported me.

4 // INNAMag

For this event, I prepared 4 outfits I loved for my two red carpet appearances and two performances: an OffWhite dress, a Loulou top with Prada trousers, a Jacquemus trench with a Versace bodysuit and a jumpsuit from Anna Kiki. On the first day, I had a Romanian show, with some of my Romanian songs and the next day, with songs from the “YO” album.

I cannot wait to get back to the Artist Awards next year: amazing vibes, good friends, best music. The Artists you want to follow from now on!

SANTORINI

DREAMY ISLAND I wanted to see Santorini for a long time! I used to look at all those beautiful pictures posted by fashion bloggers on Lookbook where the white of the buildings and the blue of the gates and the sky were so perfect, they didn't seem real. I don't know what took me so long!

Many amazing things in Santorini, but I will start with the best: the people. Greek people, you guys are amazing! Warm, friendly and loud. My type of people.

10 // INNAMag

My first contact was with the driver who waited for us at the airport. He couldn't shut up! He wanted to give us as much helpful information as he could about the place he calls home. I could see how proud he was of his homeland. In the short time we spent together in the car he managed to make us curious and excited about all the things that we were going to experience in Santorini. Because the streets are very small and cars can't fit in, he had to leave us 10 minutes away from the hotel. I really didn't want to walk after a whole day of travelling, but somebody from the hotel was waiting to help with the bags and even though we were tired, we enjoyed the road up. I had to stop myself from entering all the stores that were full of amazing handmade jewelry made from silver and gold and all kinds of natural stones.

:: TRAVEL On the 3rd day we left Oia to visit more of the island and the chapel of Saint Constantin and Elena. Our driver was a good friend of the person that had this chapel on his propriety and when he heard my name is Elena, he wanted to take us there. It's situated on the highest point in Santorini so the view was amazing. We also went to Signora Maria's house where she cooked traditional food for us so we could experience the authentic vibe and taste of the island.

We stayed in Oia at Art Maison / Aspaki & Oia Castle Luxury Honeymoon Hotels. Amazing place and very well situated. The place to be in Oia. The people there are so sweet, helpful, discrete and always with an honest smile on their faces. You can see they really enjoy working there. When I asked for something that didn't exist in the menu, they would do it anyway. Any questions were answered and came with extra tips and information. We didn't really realize just how beautiful it was until morning. The light, the place, the room, the heated swimming pool and so much white everywhere! Due to its location right in the heart of Oia, the hotel has the best view of the entire village, the Aegean sea, blue domed churches, the white of the buildings and clear blue sky. Oia is small and full of tourists. In 30 min you could walk from one end to the other, so in the 5 days we stayed there we left no stone unturned. There are tourists that come only for one day by boats and others that stay in the city. Hundreds of them! At sundown you can see what seems like all the tourists in the world taking pictures. It’s something to see and they reminded me to always appreciate the sunset!

Amazing views and amazing people!

The food is amazing everywhere! Greeks are amazing cooks. You can't go wrong there. Choose any restaurant, touristic or local ... the food will be amazing. Tzatziki everyday. All day. 3 times a day! One more thing: the beautiful Greek sky. When I feel stuck, I look at the clouds. They remind me that everything always changes. Change is the most constant thing in our lives. But some things and some moments can be captured in pictures and now in these pages to be shared with you.

Thank you, Santorini and thank you, people of Santorini for the memories!

:: ENDORSEMENT

My music in NFS and The Versace show! 2019 is a very important year for me! I feel that I’m living the best time of my life and I keep saying this! Along with the release of the album YO, I got lots of surprises! The “Sin Ti” song was chosen to be played on the sixth episode of the second season of the Netflix series “Elite”. Cool, huh?! “Tu Manera” was included on the soundtrack for the “Grand Hotel”, series, produced by Eva Longoria for ABC. I was soooo shocked! This doesn’t happen to me everyday :)) One month ago, the song “Iguana” closed Donatella Versace's fashion show for Milan Fashion Week, when the designer and her muse, JLO, went on stage. Fans were sending me snippets from JLO’s live on Instagram with Iguana playing in the background. I was sooo, sooo happy! And the latest news is that “Tu Manera” will be on the soundtrack for the latest version of the Need For Speed Heat game. All the lovee in the wooorld!

:: MOVIE RECOMMENDATION

My friends are better than yours I am truly blessed to be surrounded by great, talented friends, people who inspire me every day. This time I want to speak to you about two movies I’ve recently seen that caught my attention: “MO” with Dana Rogoz as the main character and “La Gomera”, starring my friend Catrinel Marlon, a strong woman representing Romania abroad.

“La Gomera” has a different idea, about a whistle language used in a specific area in Spain, dynamic, with the action taking place both in Romania and in Spain, with drama and suspense. I enjoyed watching Catrinel in this movie, being a beautiful bold woman, a fighter. You have to go watch it! And also read Catrinel’s interview in the magazine. I am really happy she found the time to answer it!

I support Romanian talents and I am proud to see their work is so appreciated!

:: THEATRE RECOMMENDATION

“MO” with Dana Rogoz, directed by Radu Dragomir, is about MO, a Romanian student. It was inspired by a true story that went viral on the Internet but it has much deeper implications than that. While writing the movie, Radu found some statistics that said that in Romania, a disturbing number of people, 55%, consider rape as justified in certain conditions: if the victim drinks alcohol, if the victim accepts to enter the aggressor’s house or if the victim doesn't say a firm NO. Radu wrote MO wishing that people, after they see this movie, if they were part of those 55%, they would change their opinion. And I hope his wish will come true! At least, after watching the movie you will be asking yourself the question: what would I have done?

“PROOF” with Dana Rogoz I'm happy that I said yes to my friend Dana's invitation to see her performance in the Romanian representation of "Proof "by David Auburn. Now I can recommend it with all my heart to you guys! I have to admit that I haven't seen many plays in my life, mostly because of my lack of time, but I really enjoy it whenever I have the chance. Especially when it’s Romanian actors performing. "Proof" was an emotional rollercoaster that I actually enjoyed taking (you probably don't know this about me but I am really scared of rollercoasters). Marian Râlea, Dana Rogoz, Ionut Vișan and Florentina Tilea told a story about genius, family, trust, mental illness, tears, humor, fears, deep feelings. It's about truth. Truth that hurts but also heals. It's about touching rock bottom and getting up. All this told in the story of a strange and seemingly mentally ill family of mathematicians. An honest and strong interpretation, a deep experience that made the public stand up at the end of the show.

THE MAN BEHIND T H E P H OT O S E XC LU S I V E I N T E RV I E W W I T H

E R E Z SA BAG

When did you first meet INNA and how was it?

What word do you think would describe your work best?

I met INNA with my best friend John Perez in Costa Rica a few years ago and fell in love with her personality right away. She is so humble, kind, generous and a brilliant artist!!

Cinematic, Rock-n-roll, Bold, Sexy and Chic.

Who is one of the most important people you have worked with? Every person that I work with is important to me!

What is the most important project, from your point of view, that you have worked on? My latest book RECONSTRUCTED, inspired by the Japanese art of kintsugi and the philosophy of wabi-sabi - the belief that damage is enhanced in beauty and uniqueness by the vestiges of its history and traces of its repair, the imagery of Reconstructed seeks to portray women’s personal victory over breast cancer as each reclaims her identity and femininity after undergoing treatment. An exercise in awareness, hope, reflection, and healing, Reconstructed sets out to glorify the beauty of all breast cancer survivors who wear the scars that connect us all.

22 // INNAMag

If you could, what is one piece of advice you would give to yourself, at the beginning of your career? Keep working hard because it will pay off :)

How do you manage the balance between family and work? I take time off to spend it with my family and I constantly remind myself to not take my family for granted.

Do you have any other passions, apart from photography? Surfing, music, art and making films.

What was your career path? How did you get from being an aspiring photographer to actually doing it full time and working on so many projects?

:: EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW I started when I was 16 years old assisting a photographer and always pushed myself to think outside of the box, think big, do not follow others but be a leader.

How do you educate yourself to take better pictures? By experimenting and thinking like the kid I was - a rebel, daring, free spirit with no censorship.

Whose work has influenced you most? Man Ray, Edward Steichen, Henri Cartier- Bresson, William Eggleston, André Kertész, Diane Arbus, Guy Bourdin, Helmut Newton, Richard Avedon, Peter Lindbergh, Javier Vallonrat, Nick Night and Irvin Penn.

Tell us the story behind your favorite picture. I love the raw image I shot of INNA with a leather jacket! She was in NY for a show and a few hours before the show she came to my studio and shot these images within an hour, so fresh, so natural, effortless and timeless!

What advice would you give to an amateur photographer wanting to change their passion into a full-time profession? Be passionate, have a voice, have a story to tell, stay honest, experiment until you find your style and are able to explore with no limits.

What are some favorite things about being a photographer? You meet many talented people that inspire you and travel the world.

What are some challenges you’ve encountered? There is a always a challenge, TO NEVER STOP EVOLVING!

How has photography influenced you as a person? I was a very shy person when I started, so being behind the camera helped me to be more assertive and decisive.

What inspires you the most? Tell us the story behind your book Gorgiality... Where did the idea come from? Gorgiality takes a new look at how we use make-up to explore and reinforce our identity and open up the narrative of our aesthetic universe. The imagery plays an essential role in shaping how we define beauty. But these ideals have been distilled and homogenized to what we call ‘perfection.’ Gorgiality challenges this concept. Can we be cheeky and brave at the same time? Can we be ethereal but edgy? Can we be exposed but in the shadows? We emphasize and highlight what society has told us is not traditionally beautiful, celebrate it, and change the perception. There is no unique definition of beauty, it is within everyone.

A week break of surfing every few weeks in Costa Rica.

What do you think is the next step in your career? Directing movies and creating art installations in collaboration with friends around the world.

What concept would you like to try next with INNA? It’s a secret, stay tuned!

Did it inspire and motivate you to work on your next book Project Reconstructed? Yes, for sure, I was inspired to push what beauty means in a meaningful approach that allows me to empower women from all socioeconomic classes, race or age.

:: MUSIC RECOMMENDATION

MUSIC FOR MY SOUL I want to recommend to you 3 albums that I’m listening to right now.

IRINA RIMES COSMOS Passion, love, music, melancholy: this is “Cosmos”, the album released by Irina Rimes, along with a book of her lyrics.

BILLIE EILISH WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO? She is an ocean of talent, creativity and this album is just a small side of her intense personality.

:: BOOK RECOMMENDATION

Time to read

I recently got onboard a campaign that is extremely useful in Romania, but also anywhere in the world. It’s called “It’s time to read” (#Etimpulsacitim) and it’s a call to action to start reading more. Did you know that only 1 out of 5 Romanian people read a book? It’s alarming statistics and we should all make time to read, even if it’s only 2-3 pages per day. In the past year, when writing my album “YO”, I read a lot of Spanish poems, it inspired me a lot and got my

imagination flying. This is why we should all read all the time: to get inspired, to discover worlds we’ve never met before, to get energized, maybe motivated. So, one of my sincere advices to you is to read and to inspire others to do it as well. Start a challenge: post a photo of you reading, read at least 5 pages per day and tag 5 of your friends to follow your advice!

How to do INNA’s make-up by Anca Buldur @ancapuffpuff

Prepare the skin properly with a hydrating cream and apply a make-up base according to your type of skin, in her case Natural Radiance from MAC. Apply a thin layer of foundation, less is more of course, and blend it really well with a wet sponge. For her I mix Face & Body from MAC with Loreal Infallible 24h. Apply concealer, she loves Shape Tape Tarte and fix everything with powder, Loose Powder Makeup Forever. Contour the cheeks with Hoola bronzer Benefit, add some blush Melba MAC and of course, highlighter Brilliance Stila. Contour the eyebrow by drawing hairlines with an angled brush. You can use an eyebrow pallette from Anastasia Beverly Hills. Add some brown eyeshadow in the crease and apply MAC Carbon Eyeshadow on the lashline by drawing a straight line. Put some mascara on the lashes (two layers) Telescopic Loreal. Contour and fill the lips with MAC Vino lip pencil. Make sure to apply a lip balm when you start doing your make-up!
