Can we shape our need and our desires in a way that illuminates the human mind? The scientific explanations for mental phenomena connected to my personal curiosity regarding ‘how things really are’ and how they ‘appear to me’, are used as a case study in this project. In an effort to describe the personal level experience of space as a process of human consciousness perceived by my interpersonal relationships - through memories and spatial experiences - rather than a series of physical spaces, I am trying to discover alternative practices that offer a new way of understanding spatial meanings. These alternative perspectives shaped by real people and real events mixed with imagination are able to create new spatial articulations since they tend to represent a simulation of reality.

I have not stopped dreaming and taking these dreams very seriously. -Tadao Ando

BETWEEN THE FOLDS “Once upon a time” opens an alternative world, a fairy-tale world in comparison with our own world. Exploring many questions about body’s engagement with the world and the ability of memory to define a place, I decided to reverse the space consciousness. By introducing movement as an extra variable in the project and by designing folding spaces –using cardboard as my primary material –, reconfigurable spaces through variation, we get many benefits, because we literally open up possibilities of spaces we previously thought impossible: walls that become ceilings, beds that turn into walls, floors that move from one place to another.

THE GLUE FACTORY Design from the inside looking out

The intervention at the building functions as a heterotopia; as a spectacle of incompatible representations and contradictory desires that challenge us to rethink and ultimately redefine our collective experience and perhaps each one’s everyday experience with that space. My intention regarding the interior proposal, the “room”, is to construct a fantastically interior where the ceiling is covered with a diversity of 3D shapes. The geometrical form allows a glimpse of the building within the new addition. Preserving its raw beauty through the transparent material that is made of laminated glazed panels, which are coated in a mirror finish, I will achieve the dialogue with the past and present, the juxtaposition with the old and new and I will avoid to overwhelm the existing structure. -The spectacle is not a collection of images, but a social relation among people, mediated by images Guy Debord.

Reconstruction of Independence Avenue in Famagusta

A different world.

Situations that occurred in the past, have left their marks on the city and in a place with traces of ancient customs, we are affected and we design. An urban space that has intensity and a patchwork of stories that still reside here, within each one’s memories. Although the memories are different, this project is an effort to redefine the landscape. The purpose is to create an urban space promoting the city’s development bymanaging architectural / urban direct action, and by changing the limitations to the centre. What preoccupies us mostly, as architects, is the alteration of space.

“[...] after having dismantled the city piece by piece, he reconstructed it in other ways, substituting components, shifting them, inverting them. - Italo Calvino, Invisibles Cities

Lovers are hidden in salons full of shadow, older people are gathered around their stories or children with their little paper ships on the surface of water, are admiring the skaters. Maybe that represents only the complexity of thoughts in life. - Eduardo Arroyo

The complex is located at a neighborhood in the north of Thessaloniki, housing an institution dedicated to research, exhibition and accommodation of artists. The location is a beautiful stretch of rocks and the main access to the land is through the main traffic artery. The project comes as an attempt to convert part of the landscape into indoor and lab spaces. The building is organized into different levels that provide views and ease of movement free movement, but at the same time connects the spaces between them.
