By including vitamin C in liposomes or inclusion complexes with beta- cyclodextrins, the pharmacokinetic properties of encapsulated vitamin C are significantly changed during oral administration. Biostile microencapsulated vitamin C is based on a natural source of organic vitamin C from rosehip (Rosa canina) fruit extract, which is surrounded by a beta-cyclodextrin microcapsule.
The binding of vitamin C in the inclusion complex enables protection from external influences and controlled release in the digestive system. In this way, a more even and controlled release of vitamin C is achieved than, for example, in the case of taking pure synthetic ascorbic acid3. This ensures greater biological absorption and more stable amounts of vitamin C in the blood plasma. The amount of vitamin C in tissues and organs and the rate of excretion of excess vitamin C through the kidneys also depend on this.
The advantages of including dietary supplements in beta-cyclodextrins7 are:
• increased hydrophilicity and improved solubility of the included molecule in water, chemical stabilization of reactive or unstable molecules,
• protection against dehydration, hydrolysis, oxidation and photodegradation,
• increased bioavailability (increased permeability through biological barriers), facilitated passage of water-soluble substances through the mucous membrane,
• reduced irritation and prolonged contact time at the point of absorption.
