concrete basics for sustainability I
research structure material study concrete I impact on bldg energy precast vs poured
disadvantage for sustainability I
green concrete options
I
peaking cooling load I external wall conduction gains
34
• durable • use recycled materials • can be recycled and reused • less energy required to produce • locally manufactured • reduce energy required for heating and cooling through thermal mass • low VOC emission
• concrete has a huge impact on green built because of its sheer volume and the massive resources used to make it • Co2 emission from using cement
precast
poured
excavate the land as needed
required excavation & on-site forms to be created and placed
uses a controlled environment, weather does not play a factor in forming
unexpected weather conditions will delay progress. cold weather can add cure time
strict strength requirements before leaving the plant. consistency across all precast materials
variables factor into your final product. temperature, wind, humidity, etc. can impact final strength
controlled environment prevents any outside variables. all concrete must pass strict testing. ideal conditions are maintained
concrete is subject to outside variables and changing conditions. all testing must be performed on site
prep work
weather
• cement free concrete • rice husk ash cement • rice husk cement strength
