ANACOSTIA AVIARY BIRDHIDE, KINGMAN ISLANDS, WASHINGTON DC.

ARCH408- Summer ‘20 Prof. Michael Ezban Brief: For this project each student was assigned a BirdHide as their Precedent. Each of us were further asked to reconstruct the Birdhide based on the key principles of the precedent by adjusting it further to fit the environment of the new assigned site. Constraints: The new proposed design had to tie back to the original precedent structure. Precedent: Hornoya BirdHide, Norway by Biotope Design Concept: Concepts based on push/pull, expansion/contraction and rotation. Design Process: Hand drawings/ sketches Software: Rhino, Illustrator, Twinmotion

GARDEN DESIGN

ARCH400- STUDIO I (Spring ‘20) Prof. Michael Abrams Brief: The objectives of this project were to explore and understand concept development, spatial sequencing, wayfinding techniques, expansion and compression of spaces, principles of space-making, edges and landmarks while working with a limited set of parameters such as climate and building codes. To begin with the design process, this project challenged each student to compose a series of spaces using a prescribed kit of parts to orchestrate an experience based on one theme. The kit of parts included, a Folly (designed in a previous project), a monolith, a belvedere, 2 shallow reflecting pools (200 sf each or one pool of 400 sf ), 5 walls of varying sizes, 25-40 trees, pergola, hedges, stairs/ramps, and the site, 80' (width)x 160' (length) with a 7'-6" height difference where the site was said to be designed as a civic garden in an attempt to connect the waterfront to the city. Precedent: Tuilleries Garden, Pari Design Process: Hand drawings/ sketches, Rhino/ Physical Models Software: Rhino, Illustrator, Twinmotion, Photoshop 4

GARDEN ANALYSIS ARCH400- Studio I (Spring ‘20) Prof. Michael Abrams Brief: This project comprised of 2 parts. For the primary objective of the first part of this assignment was to analyze a historic/modern garden and explore its basic components through a series of diagrams Precedent: Tuileries Garden, Paris

Software: Adobe Illustrator, Hand Sketches (diagrams)

BAS RELIEF COMPOSITION

ARCH400- STUDIO I (Spring ‘20) Prof. Michael Abrams Brief: For this assignment, each individual was assigned a modern residential house as a precedent. We were further asked to generate an abstract bas relief composition based on the precedent’s concept(s) and case study analysis. Precedent: Kauffman Desert House, Richard Neutra Design Concept: Concepts of the BAS RELIEF were based on key characteristics of the Kauffman House- “The Pinwheel.” The parti diagram of the bas relief represents the pinwheel through shifted perceptions and movement, where the forms represent a process. In other terms, you must fold a square sheet into a pinwheel form. Design Process: Hand drawings/ sketches, 3D models

YMCA ARCH300- Design Media & Representation II Prof. Matthew Geiss Brief: This assignment was divided into two parts. For part 1, we were asked to build two models, one using dowels to generate a column and beam structure, whereas, the second using orthogonal planes. We were assigned a certain number of dowels and planes for each model. For part 2, we were asked to merge the two models to generate one-single abstract cube. Even though the brief was to design a YMCA, we were asked to focus more on it being an abstract cube rather than a functional/practical space.

Software: Adobe Illustrator, Rhino, Hand Drawings (orthigraphics)
