Chester race dates for 2022 Chester Racecourse 2022 Fixtures Announced Chester Racecourse is thrilled to announce the BHA have released the dates of its 2022 racing calendar. Racehorses are set to return to the Roodee on Wednesday 4th May as the iconic Boodle’s May Festival begins. In 2021, the Boodle’s May Festival was sadly forced to take place behind closed doors without spectators due to the COVID-19 pandemic, so staff and spectators alike are thrilled to see one of Chester’s most renowned meetings be enjoyed by crowds for the first time in 2 years.

Charlie Liverton – Chief Executive of the Horsemen’s Group – said “the pandemic has been an opportunity for racing to consider new initiatives, including during the compilation of the 2022 Fixture List. We must continue to look at ways of meeting the needs of the horse population, bookmakers and racing fans to ensure that, as a sport, we remain relevant and competitive”. Information on pricing, race times and hospitality packages will be released in due course.

Saturday 9th July and Saturday 20th August will make the most of the Great British summer, with two of Chester’s busiest race days of the season, City Plate Day and Ladies Day respectively. 2022’s racing season will then later see the return of its September Season Finale. 2021’s Season Finale is set to close the season on the 2nd October – a month rarely used for racing at Chester. Specially for 2022, the BHA board have approved a “sixth Flat fixture on a Saturday”. Racecourses chosen for this initiative will “contribute a fee into the BHA Development Fund, which is used to support the programming of races with developmental aims”. Chester Racecourse has been selected to take part in this initiative and will see its one-year only additional fixture take place on Saturday 11th June. HE Year 2022 is only a couple of weeks away and you haven’t even started working towards your fitness goals. It’s not your fault. Amidst all the chaos, it’s only human to put your fitness aims on the back burner. Fortunately, life is getting back to normal and people have started to find a work-life balance to ensure their mental as well as physical health. And it’s about time that you should too. Here are five tips to help you achieve your fitness goals by 2022 or sooner.

1. Set your goals and be specific

Setting goals gives you direction and the motivation to keep going. We often hear people saying how they want to get fit by the end of the year, but weeks later they are yet to hit the gym. That’s because they didn’t set a specific goal. When you are specific about what you want to achieve, your subconscious mind starts working towards that goal. For example, you want to lose weight, but how much? You want to increase your muscle size, by how much? When you are able to measure your progress, you can feel more confident and inspired to stay on track until the end.

2. Give yourself a timeline

For instance; you want to lose 20 pounds. Give yourself a realistic timeline for achieving this goal. It could be three months or six months, depending on your body’s natural metabolism. Once you have the timeline, measure your progress once a week so that you can make changes to your diet or exercise to improve results.

3. Stay consistent

Many people hit the gym with great enthusiasm, which tends to dwindle after a few weeks.

They see less progress and experience more pain, which eventually leads them to stop. Start small and work your way up gradually. Once you have built the momentum, exercising will become a habit. And work out with friends - that way you can motivate each other to turn up every day.

4. Get proper sleep

Strenuous workouts can be exhausting for your body, especially if you are starting afresh. To avoid fatigue or burnout, make sure you get at least 7.5 hours of sleep every night. When you are asleep, your body’s natural healing mechanism kicks in and helps repair muscle wear and tear.

5. Eat healthily

Eating healthy is really important when you are pursuing your fitness goals because 80% of the results depend on diet and 20% on exercise. Get a diet chart from your personal trainer or nutritionist and follow it religiously.

Building an extension L AST time, we considered the issue from the neighbours’ point of view and discussed how easy it would be to do the building work yourself. In the last of this series, we look at what’s involved in building your extension.

What are the stages of building an extension? 1. Prep the area Start by sorting out adequate access to the site and protecting spaces that are going to be lived in during the project and setting up alternative kitchen/bathroom arrangements if necessary.

2. Start the groundworks Next, demolish any unwanted structures and clear the site to be built on. Assign and clear spaces that are to be used for the storage of materials or topsoil. Install gullies and/ or soakaway to manage surface water.

3. Lay the foundations Dig out and marking out the footings. Lay and connect drains. Put in the damp proof course. Lay hardcore, a damp proof membrane, insulation and concrete to form the base floor.

4. Start the build At this point, the walls can go up (usually breeze blocks with a brick outer skin, unless you’re opting for cladding or something more unusual). Window sills and lintels can be inserted as the walls rise. Upper floor joists should be fitted if there is to be more than one storey.

5. Add the roof First, out in trusses and gable walls to form the frame. Add vents, felting and battens, then tile the whole thing. Add guttering, downpipes and flashing.

6. Finish the shell Now you can fit window and door units, and reconfigure your existing interior space by breaking it through to the new part of the house.

7. Fit the interior In this last stage, you would lay floor insulation - along with any underfloor heating pipework, if it’s required. Pour a concrete screed to form a subfloor. Complete your electrics, plumbing and plastering. Finally, lay your flooring, fit cabinetry, carpentry and appliances, and decorate the space.
