For Dixie Electric Cooperative Member-Owners July 2016

No Cost Payment Options from Your Cooperative

In today's busy world, everyone is looking for convenience, which is why we offer a variety of FREE payment options for our member-owners in addition to paying by mail or in the office. These options include payments by phone, at www.dixie.coop, and through our mobile apps. Best of all, your payment will post immediately to your account when using these options. There are area businesses and online services that also offer bill payment services, but they typically charge a fee and payments made through these services do not immediately post to your account. While these are legitimate companies, they are not affiliated with your cooperative; therefore, we cannot be responsible for misapplied or returned payments submitted through these services. To ensure timely posting of payments and proper credit, we recommend using one of our convenient no cost payment options.

We're always looking out for you.

Hurricane Season is Here Are you prepared? We are entering that time of year typically known for producing strong hurricanes and storms. Here at Dixie Electric Cooperative, we have disaster plans in place, ready to face almost anything that comes our way. Are you prepared for a disaster? The National Weather Service recommends that all households have a disaster supply kit. This kit should include food, water, clothes, flashlights, batteries, blankets, pillows, a first aid kit, medicines, important documents sealed in a waterproof container or bag, and tools, just to name a few. In addition, we recommend that you have at least one standard phone, not a cordless phone, in your home to use if the power goes out. If you only use a cell phone be sure to have an alternate power source for charging, such as your car. If your power does go out, rest assured that our crews our on standby ready to restore your power as quickly as possible.

GENERATOR SAFETY During hurricane season, people often consider installing generators in their homes and businesses. While they serve a great purpose during storms, there are several things you should know to keep everyone safe. • • • • • • • • •

Never connect a generator directly to your home's wiring. Never plug an electric portable generator into a regular household outlet. Use proper electrical cords. Make sure the generator is always properly grounded. Carefully read and follow all manufacturer instructions and safety precautions. Follow local, state, and national fire and electrical codes. Never operate indoors — protect yourself from carbon monoxide poisoning. Never fuel a generator while it is operating. Always have a fully charged fire extinguisher nearby.

We strongly recommend that a properly licensed electrician install the equipment necessary to safely connect emergency generators.
