A Vision for Northland Christian Education System The Christian school movement is in crisis. Since 2006, nearly 1/3 of all Christian schools in the country have closed. Many of the schools that remain report financial losses caused by declining enrollment and gift income. A slow economic recovery has left many of the remaining schools in jeopardy.

Expanding Our Vision The board and administration of Northland Christian Education System in Kansas City, MO, saw clearly that doing the same thing in the same way they have always been done made little sense. Times have changed and emerging technologies have opened new doors of opportunity to deliver content, enhance programs, and expand markets. Demographic shifts have created different demands among parents of prospective students. And while many parents of school-age children desire for them to experience a valuebased Christian educational experience, too many regrettably are opting out for less expensive alternatives. Studies indicate that finances are the greatest barrier to recruitment and the most prevalent explanation for student attrition. With one eye open to trends and another that could clearly see opportunity to impact a new generation, the board and leadership team of the school has struck out on one of the boldest initiatives in its history. Realizing their vision to make Christian education available to any family who desires one will require monumental changes. There is an irrevocable commitment to excellence and quantifiable outcomes consistent with the schools mission objectives and based solidly upon its non-negotiable core values. The goal is to be used of the Lord to expand the outreach of the school, to enhance its programs, and to raise up a generation of Christian leaders prepared to meet the challenges of our changing world. Our commitment is to strategically design a program that will be available, affordable, sustainable, and profitable.

Christian Education for a New Generation Spiritual Integrity ~ The core of Northland Christian is our firm and unchanging commitment to being a Christian school, raising up generation after generation of Godfearing, devoted followers of Jesus Christ with sound biblical worldviews. Our students will experience and learn to apply what it means to “Love the Lord their God with all their hearts, minds, souls, and strength”. Our students will recognize the Bible as God’s absolute Truth for humanity and be prepared to defend their faith in secular society; effectively applying faith to all of life. Our student’s hearts will be nurtured to embrace life-long involvement in their local church and communities, and to spread the gospel around the world. Our students, through training, modeling, and regular opportunities for outreach, will develop lives of service to their community as well as national and global missions. Academic Excellence ~ Northland Christian is committed to developing a rigorous and unmatched academic program, rooted in God’s Word. Our school will partner with other Christian schools and universities to expose and educate our students in subject matter that develops their unique God-given talents. Our school will offer additional dual-credit courses, and will retain highly qualified staff to teach our students at the highest level, helping them to develop a love of life-long learning. Our school will provide our top-notch education to students around the nation and around the world through live-streaming; partner with homeschoolers to provide for their student’s needs; and provide added opportunities for students in public education to access our Christian education outside their normal classroom. Our school will integrate the latest technological developments to equip our students for higher education and careers. Career training courses and camps will be offered to pique student’s interests in a variety of fields. Our school will graduate students who demonstrate a broad and comprehensive understanding of all subject material, qualify to enter any university of their choosing, and go on to be leaders in politics, academia, business, entertainment, science, church, the mission field, and home while actively sharing their faith wherever God leads them. Students and Families ~ Recognizing that our purpose as a Christian school is to educate students, Northland Christian is committed to implementing whatever is necessary to develop healthy students and families; spiritually, mentally, emotionally, and physically. We will accomplish this through providing comprehensive counseling services centered on God’s Word to our families as well as those in our community. We will provide educational tutoring to anyone at convenient hours so that students learn more than facts, they learn how to study. We will host conferences, seminars, and trainings that educate on current cultural trends from a Biblical worldview thus building up the Body of Christ as we partner with churches and other Christian schools. We will develop effective programs for integrating gifted students as well as those with special needs; programs that will be evaluated and implemented by others nationwide. We will offer premier programs in extra-curricular areas: athletics, the performing arts, and music, to develop our students according to their highest God-given potential and prepare them to be competitive in their pursuits after graduation. We will offer our exemplary Christian education to any student or family who desires it regardless of their location or financial constraints. We will partner with inner-city organizations to make Christian education available through them to the people they serve. Affordability ~ Our commitment to making Christian education affordable to any and every student is a core value of the leadership of Northland Christian. A foundation will be established to provide funds for things like tuition assistance, salary increases, staff benefits, etc. Donors will have the option to contribute to an area of personal interest, for example: science, technology, athletics, facility development. Entrepreneurial businesses on site, like a cafÊ/coffee shop and daycare center, will offer our high school students business management experience while producing income that helps keep operating costs down. Satellite school locations will make it possible to leverage faculty influence beyond the classroom, increase enrollment, and lower costs. Virtual classroom attendance in classes being taught at the school will allow us to be accessible while income from the modest fees charged would enable Northland to contain costs.

Facility Stewardship & Sustainability ~ We are committed to designing and developing a school home where our students, families, and staff can flourish and prosper in all God has purposed for us. Renting our school-owned campus to the community will produce revenue allowing NC to be sustainable and profitable while offering an opportunity to reach deeper into our community with the love of Christ. Our school-owned campus will be used 24/7 both for our own educational use and community use. Our site plan will include stateof-the-art athletic center and fields, performing arts theatre, and media center as well as modern science labs and areas for technical vocational learning. Our school-owned campus will house entrepreneurial opportunities open to the public. Our school-owned campus will be rented, outside of school use, to area clubs and leagues for athletics, youth performing arts and music, and large events like weddings, conferences and would be available for church services. Our school-owned campus will provide a media center that will provide valuable resources for students and families all through the lens of a biblical worldview. Our school-owned campus’ classrooms will be utilized by Christian colleges to expand their reach into our community and school. Our school-owned campus will be built with the support of investors offsetting the need to raise money solely through donor activity.

The leadership team believes through a multi-year phased plan that Northland Christian will be a prototype of the 21st Century Christian School. Northland wants to be a leader in redefining Christian education for a new generation.
