Henry & Lisa, Wellington, New ZealandGETTING AROUND
We don’t do ‘bus tours’… we do Small Group Journeys. Whether it’s a tuktuk, jeep safari, or bullet train, you’ll get a local experience when it provides the best sightseeing or transport opportunity. Otherwise, road journeys are in our comfortable air-conditioned vehicles. We keep it small and never use large coaches.
TAILOR-MADE FOR YOU
You can use our Small Group Journey itineraries as inspiration, or you can create your own completely customised holiday. Either way, you will get a tailor-made holiday where you take control of your experience and we create a holiday exactly the way you want.
I just returned from Sri Lanka and wished to say how much I enjoyed this trip! It was the first time I had used Insider Journeys and I was very impressed with the level of organisation, quality of the hotels, tour guides, vans, cyclos, etc. It was a truly memorable 12 days and thank you to the Insider Journeys team for organising it.
For guests who prefer to travel with others, we offer our popular Small Group Journeys. We limit these groups to a maximum of 16 people (and only 12 in Japan) so you can enjoy a personalised, authentic experience. Smaller groups ensure more time with your local expert, more time to make new friends, less time waiting, and more time for you to enjoy the amazing destinations throughout your journey.
SMALL GROUP JOURNEYS
Whether you’re gathering your family for a reunion, your friends for a dream wedding, or your co-workers for a rewards trip, let us design the perfect custom itinerary for your group’s needs. Large groups come with large expectations, and our dedicated Groups department specializes in these unique requirements. We offer advice and support at all times, so you have peace of mind that we are here for your group.

BAHRAIN
Bahrain in Arabic means the “two seas”, specifically referring to the unique natural phenomenon where freshwater springs burst out in the middle of the Arabian Gulf, creating the natural habitat for the rarest types of natural pearls.
Bahrain is home to one of the ancient civilizations in the Middle East which is Dilmun. Dilmun civilization is so old that even Sumerians recognized these people and even regarded Bahrain as a sacred
place thousands of years ago. One can tour Bahrain and find many ancient sites that had stood the ravages of time.
Remnants of the country’s thousands of years of rich history can be seen side by side with modern day skyscrapers, offering an unparalleled combination of cultural adventures, entertainment options, and leisure destinations.
ANCIENT CIVILIZATION
The Dilmun civilization was an ancient civilization in the eastern part of the Arabian Peninsula. It was one of the oldest civilizations in the world. The capital of the Dilmun is now the Kingdom of Bahrain. It was considered as an important trading hub due to its strategic location. It controlled the trading routes in the Arabian Gulf during the peak of its power.
BAHRAIN FORT
Known as Dilmun in ancient times, The fort has been built over more than 4,000 years of continuous occupation. It is the most important archeological site in the Arabian Gulf. This is where the most significant archeological finds have been made in Bahrain, and it provides an outstanding proof not only of the might of Dilmun, but also its successors during the Tylos and Islamic periods.
SHOP ‘TIL YOU DROP
WEATHER
Bahrain has an arid desert climate, slightly moderated by its surrounding waters. Temperatures are high year-round, though considerably warmer in summer than in winter. We may divide the year into two main climatic periods: From June to September and from December to March, separated by two transitional periods April/May and October/ November.
Bahrain, and especially Manama, is a shopper’s paradise. This is true whether you’re strolling through the many souks of Bahrain or through the magnificent malls spread across the country. There are traditional markets or “souqs” that specialize in local handicrafts, where you can also buy authentic carpets, textiles, and spices. Likewise, there are modern shopping malls that offer local as well as international brands. Bahrain is known for its natural pearls and gold. You can find some spectacular jewelry. Striking handmade carpets are another Bahrain specialty.
MUHARRAQ OLD HOUSES
Known for its cultural contributions through the many restored traditional Bahraini houses that can be found amidst the narrow lanes and byways, the old houses of Muharraq are some of Bahrain’s most impressive examples of Islamic architecture and heritage.
MANAMA SOUQ
Here you can pick up everything from electronic goods and bargain t-shirts to spices and shisha pipes. But the real reason to visit a souq is to wander through the bustling streets of the market that still evokes the atmosphere of trading during ancient times.
JARADA ISLAND
Jarada Island is famous for its smooth golden sands and crystal-clear waters that are perfect for swimming and diving. The disappearing island is known specifically for its small size, completely submerged under water at night, and floats to the surface the following day.
AL FATEH GRAND MOSQUE
This mosque able to hold up to 7,000 worshippers. Al Fatih has an air of majesty unmatched by other mosques in Bahrain. Marble was brought over from Italy to adorn the floor, glass from Austria for the windows, and teak from India were carved locally to make the high doors.
ADLIYA 338
Block 338 is a charming pedestrian quarter crammed with international restaurants, art galleries, and small boutiques. As Bahrain’s hot dining district, it offers a wide range of restaurants appealing to all ages and tastes, traditional Bahraini dishes and international cuisine.
CAMEL FARM
This farm is home to hundreds of camels. Open daily, it’s an interesting place to take the children and observe these majestic animals. Stroll through the quaint farmland and if you are lucky, you may get the opportunity to pet the baby camels or feed them with bottled fresh milk! Great for picture-taking.
