Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, Chiang Mai

Day 1 Bangkok Welcome to Bangkok! Your local guide will greet you drive you to your hotel for check-in. The rest of the day is at your leisure. Overnight in Bangkok.

Day 2 Bangkok Start your day with a cruise along the Chao Phraya River. Learn to prepare 4 exciting dishes with local ingredients at Amita Thai’s Cooking Class. Afterwards, cruise to the Grand Palace and Wat Phra Kaew, home to the sacred Emerald Buddha. In the evening, embark on a tuk-tuk adventure through Bangkok to hidden restaurants and local spots where you’ll discover Thai street food like a local. Overnight in Bangkok. (BD)

Day 3 Bangkok – Kanchanaburi Catch a glimpse of Bangkok’s busiest fresh seafood market – Mahachai market. See handicrafts, pottery and fresh caught seafood from the gulf. Drive south through rice paddies and fields to Damnoen Saduak, the popular floating market. Continue in the afternoon to Kanchanaburi to visit the famous bridge over the Kwai River. This is part of the ‘Death Railway’ constructed by prisoners during WWII. Overnight in Kanchanaburi. (B)

Day 4 Kanchanaburi – Ayutthaya – Sukhothai Explore Ayutthaya, the former capital of the Thai Kingdom. Stroll around the ruins of Wat Phra Si Sanphet, a former royal temple; Wat Mahathat, where the roots of a tree surround the head of Buddha; and Wat Chai Wattanaram, an example of Khmer architectural influence. Drive to Sukhothai in the afternoon. Overnight in Sukhothai. (B) monuments illustrating the beginning of Thai architecture. Continue driving north to Chaing Rai with a stop at Wat Phra That Lampang Luang, a temple perched upon a hill. It’s a beautiful temple to explore before you arrive in Chiang Rai for the evening. Day 6 Chiang Rai – Chiang Mai Start your day with a 3-hour boat ride on the Mae Kok River. Trek through dense jungle and rice paddies before arriving at a traditional Karen village. Continue with an adventurous elephant trek before visiting a local hot spring. Afterwards, you will trek to a Lahu village. The Lahu are well known for their traditional weaving and farming techniques. Return to Chiang Rai by boat. Overnight in Chiang Rai. (BD)

Day 7 Chiang Rai – Chiang Mai Drive from Chiang Rai to Chiang Mai. On the way, you will visit the famous White Temple. In contrast to the ancient temples, this was built in 1997 and was designed using white glass. After lunch, the rest of the day is at your leisure. Overnight in Chiang Mai. (B)

Day 8 Chiang Mai Discover Chiang Mai and rural life with a half-day bicycling tour. Ride along quiet roads with many temples and ruins along the way. Visit a Chinese temple, a special Monk-only school, a pottery village, a local bakery and a bustling market. In the evening you’ll join a cooking class with a local family. Learn about their culture, way of life, and all about northern Thai herbs and ingredients. Enjoy a delicious meal with your Thai family before returning to Chiang Mai. Overnight in Chiang Mai. (BD)

Day 9 Chiang Mai Departure Enjoy breakfast before transferring to the airport for your onward journey.

Day 5 Sukhothai – Lampang – Chiang Rai Visit the historical park in Sukhothai, another former capital that includes a number of fine TASTE OF THAILAND
