‘A’ for Augmented Reality

With advancements, Augmented Reality is being used to deliver a learning experience that is immersive and connects well with both textual and visual learners. With AR, learners do not just learn a concept but experience it which results in improved retention ability. It presents learners with an interactive experience of real-life environments which is a blend of several digital elements, like haptic feedback, and visual overlays. AR along with Virtual Reality and Mixed Reality helps roll out e-learning solutions in the form of games, simulations and more. Imagine how easy

it is to learn about space for kids when they can virtually see the components in their classroom. Or how trainee doctors can better understand the complexities of the human body through 3D scans. Also, how impactful fire safety drills can be when a threatening scenario can be created, and employees can be instructed how to deal with it. The potentials of AR in e-learning are only limited by our imagination. In this edition of Insights Success, we present 2020’s Most Innovative E-learning Solution Providers. Companies that are made of people who do not lack imagination or the courage to experiment. U

pskilling is the flavor of the season. With the world under quarantine, ‘now’ is being touted as the best time to learn and upgrade oneself. Even before the current situation, organizations and professionals have always believed that to stay relevant and updated with the latest industry know-hows, one must keep learning. For professionals, it isn’t easy to turn up in classrooms and dedicate day-after-day to attend training sessions. They prefer flexible learning opportunities that are industry-relevant, interactive, and contextual. These requirements have helped fuel the e-learning market. Allen Interactions features as a prominent name among e-learning service providers. Leveraging nearly three decades of extensive experience, Allen Interactions and The Allen Academy partner with organizations on comprehensive learning and talent ecosystem initiatives that include learning strategy, custom development, technology, automation, change management, talent staffing, and instructional design. Allen Interactions’ passion has always been to deliver

Meaningful, Memorable, and Motivational solutions that are laser-focused on performance improvement. The company takes on challenges for overcoming performance barriers, resistance to change, onboarding, workforce realignment, technology integration, new product introductions and support, and many others. In November 2019, Allen Interactions acquired Problem Solutions, which builds digital engineering solutions for major organizations in both private and public sectors. This acquisition furthers Allen Interactions’ commitment to providing its clients the means to significantly improve human performance efficiency at measurable levels that prove meaningful to the organization’s success. An Adept Leader Dr. Michael W. Allen, Founder, Chairman, and CEO of Allen Interactions, has been a pioneer in the e-learning industry since 1971. He has decades of professional, academic, and corporate experience in teaching, developing and marketing interactive learning, and creating performance support systems.

Our deep roots in building Meaningful, Memorable, and Motivational learning experiences—combined with digital engineering expertise—allows us to develop innovative

learning and technology solutions for some of the largest brands in the world

Dr. Allen has led teams of doctorate-level specialists in learning research, instructional design, computer-assisted learning, and human engineering. He defined unique principles and methods for designing and developing high impact interactive e-learning experiences that invoke critical cognitive activity and practice. Allen Interactions uses these approaches for iterative and collaborative development. Allen’s methodologies are also taught in The Allen Academy where learning professionals can become certified in the techniques. Before establishing Allen Interactions, Dr. Allen served as the director of advanced educational systems research

and development of Control Data Corporation’s famous PLATO system for computer-based education system used around the world. He was the founder and former chairman of Authorware, Inc. and the primary architect of Authorware Professional, a ground-breaking authoring tool which was based on Dr. Allen’s extensive research on creativity and creative problem-solving. Authorware, Inc. merged with Macromind/Paracomp to become Macromedia, which was later acquired by Adobe.

Allen Interactions has been practicing and teaching the SAM process to its clients since 1993, publicly through ATD (American Society of Training & Development) for many years and most recently as part of the new Allen Academy for Learning Professionals. Allens’ CCAF Design Model consists of four components of instructional interactivity which include: Context, Challenge, Activity, and Feedback. This model is rooted in driving performance change for all custom learning deigns to be authentic representations of realworld settings, choices, skill applications, and consequences that employees face in their jobs. Dr. Allen also deeply believes in the value of practice, pointing out that many training programs provide far too little practice and that certain practice paradigms are far more effective than others. Allen Interactions studios have spent decades creating standards, methods, and paradigms for evolving digital learning and human performance measurements.

Through design thinking tools, agile development, and unique collaboration, Allen Interactions focuses on performance first, resolving problems from fuzzy to clear, leading to improved performance and the achievement of specific business outcomes.

Turning Challenges into Success Stories Although e-learning is a well-established alternative to traditional learning, it is still far from being wellunderstood. Myths and misunderstanding abound. For e-learning service providers, one of the major challenges continues to be helping clients understand the differences in outcomes that can be achieved with different types of e-learning. Allen Interactions enjoys a great reputation for quality, attracting clients who are often very well-informed and forward-thinking. It allows the company to raise the bar and innovate for impressive outcomes. However, at times, even knowledgeable clients are handicapped by members of their leadership teams who continue to think of training as a cost rather than the means to secure competitive advantages. Throughout the three decades of operations, the CCAF and SAM design and development approaches have helped Allen Interactions secure its enduring position at the top of the industry. The mission-driven company has had the honor of educating thousands of professionals on its e-learning design and development principles for building true instructional interactivity for performancechanging learning. A Thriving Industry

As an industry veteran, Dr. Allen opines that there’s now a keen awareness that to become and remain competitive, organizations need to use their employee’s time wisely, develop skills needed for efficient performance, and give employees growth opportunities that will keep them from wandering away. “I think with the sudden necessity of remote work and the discovery that this is quite manageable for many organizations, e-learning is moving from an interesting option to a vital strategy. I hope with increased attention, the demand for higher-quality e-learning will rise strongly over the widespread acceptance of some slides and questions as we see so much of today,” Dr. Allen expresses. With the rise of the industry, many novice players are trying to make their mark. To the young entrepreneurs, Dr. Allen says, “We welcome and encourage all who intend to help others realize their full potential. Establish a mission, a set of values, and a uniqueness that no one else has and stick to them. Persistence is the essence of success.” Venturing towards Zeniths of Success The changing dynamics of the industry due to remote workforces, the desire to build unique skill sets, the redefinition of educational and training institutions, and other movements are creating fantastic opportunities for companies like Allen Interactions. The company’s unique ability to incorporate smart software, advanced systems engineering, and creative, evidence-based, learning experiences—that have both impact and enthusiastic learner acceptance—means it will be able to continue to serve major progressive organizations.“We continue to evolve as a company and are so excited to share more of our discoveries and advances in performance technology in the future! Our future looks very bright for us. And fun, too!” concludes Dr. Allen.

Sculpting the Future of Learning

D

igital Learning is the future and already here. Currently, blended learning is in vogue, balancing the traditional mode and the emerging trends for efficient education. Experts suggest that the global digital education market will grow to nearly USD 33.2 billion by 2025, at a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 31.4%. The market will be driven by factors including increased internet penetration which facilitates online learning, reduced infrastructure cost, and escalating demand for micro-learning. However, the predicted growth is not uniform across the globe. While some countries are way ahead, if one draws a growth curve, some still have a lot to catch up with. The reasons for this uneven distribution vary from a lack of infrastructure to the socio-economic and political landscape as well. If we focus on Africa, the mentioned factors make growth difficult consequently affecting factors such as access to education, infrastructure, and funding. Creating access to learning through traditional education facilities, has been an ongoing challenge to many governments and providers across Africa. Resources and access to funding have always been and will continue to be a challenge for African universities. Challenges apart, this also provides an opportunity to innovate as only Africans can and in this lies a real opportunity to thrive. This is what Ian Light, CEO, Eiffel Corp is trying to do along with his team. Eiffel Corp, one of Africa’s leading digital education companies, believes that gaining and building the trust of their educators and institutions in delivering world-class education to students, is the reason they have been successful over the past 22 years and have expanded their services across Africa and abroad.

Advanced Solutions Eiffel Corp was founded by Andre and Gwen Van der Merwe, two individuals passionate about education and extremely proud to have been at the forefront of popularizing learning technology in universities throughout Africa. Their pioneering spirit has enabled Eiffel Corp to the level of an industry leader and a respected contributor to digital education innovation. Eiffel Corp offers a range of best of breed technology and services that span the entire student life-cycle. Proudly South African (BBBEE Level 2), Eiffel Corp has over 20 years’ worth of experience, both in Africa and abroad. It works with organizations to select the technology and services that are optimal for all their learning, administration, communication, and wellness needs. It consults, deploys, and supports both the organization and its people, to adopt the technology in everyday activities, as they scale, adapt, and evolve. It also guides organizations as they prepare for tomorrow, today by helping them realize the potential of technology in education. Eiffel Corp enables educational institutions to support the learner of today, and tomorrow, by partnering with them to build high-quality digital environments and opportunities for learning. It helps the institutions make more proactive, data-driven decisions allowing them to target, engage, and retain the right students and foster student success. It enhances learning and knowledge construction by using next-generation learning tools and pedagogicallyappropriate methods. Technology – the Enabler Eiffel Corp’s products include Academia, for automation of academic and administrative processes; Turnitin, which assists universities to ensure academic integrity, Modo www.insightssuccess.com

2020's Most Innovative E-learning Solution Provider Campus, for creating campus apps; Symplicity for career management integrating employability; and Symplicity Advocate for students conduct and behavioral intervention management among several others. Eiffel Corp’s solutions help institutions to make more proactive, data-driven decisions that guarantee higher student engagement and success. It also helps them to streamline administrative functions and effective campus management. The solutions help manage highly trained and accredited teaching staff as well as greater opportunities to generate third-stream income from existing student activity. The company also offer enhanced ROI on edtech investments and training program. All these benefits are delivered with Eiffel Corp’s strongest ally- technology. Stefan du Plessis, Chief Commercial Officer at Eiffel Corp, explains that Eiffel Corp’s focus is innovation, not invention, and understands that one organization can't solve both learners’ and partners’ problems on their own. “Apart from our own arch and development, we keep abreast of the latest digital developments across various sectors and continuously explore how we can leverage these to address partner challenges,” says Du Plessis. “EdTech is working in Africa and although there are numerous obstacles, African organizations have come up with some of the most innovative solutions to resolve the challenges. Our educational institutions have been at the forefront of digital adoption for many years. With the next level of unprecedented global growth to come from this continent; we must understand that organizations invest in EdTech solutions to make quality education accessible and impactful to everyone. Eiffel Corp has the experience to deliver fit for purpose EdTech solutions across our continent and that is why we are successful,” Du Plessis added. Future- Fit Solutions Eiffel Corp has an uphill task ahead, but they have been preparing for it ever since they thought of it. According to the Director of Digital Learning Services, Myles Thies, capable and dependable infrastructure is still lacking in places and access to information and the internet is well below other parts of the developing world. On the brighter side, pockets have emerged that are showing how fast things can be changed and caught up. They might be late to enter the market, but he thinks that the benefit it gives is www.insightssuccess.com

Ian Light, CEO

“Unsurprisingly, we’re passionate about technology as an enabler of education” that they can apply the latest innovations without the complicated legacy of past technology and regulation. “Additionally, demographically, according to The World Economic Forum, Africa has the fastest-growing and youngest population in the world which puts it at the forefront of growth potential ahead of everyone else. Leveraging these advantages, Africa can build its digital future both quickly and sustainably,” Thies explained. Echoing the thoughts of the team, Ian Light says he would like to see Eiffel Corp continue their mission to improve education throughout Africa. “We are proudly African, and we would like to continue working alongside our African compatriots and colleagues to ensure they achieve the best possible outcomes for their investments with a fit for purpose technology, training, innovation, and local support”, concludes Light. 21| September 2020

n a study by the University of Colorado Denver Business School, the researchers analyzed studies and data from 6,476 trainees, to determine whether video games in training can lead to substantial improvements in performance. The findings shared indicated that self-efficacy was 20 percent higher for learners trained with simulation games than for a comparison group; declarative knowledge was 11 percent higher, procedural knowledge was 14 percent higher and retention was 9 percent higher. Several other research and studies have shown that game-based learning improves engagement and learning. In 2017, the global game-based learning market stood at $3.487 billion. By 2022, it is expected to grow and reach a market size of $8.532 billion. Since 2012, MLevel has been riding the wave and has rapidly grown to include some of the most fun and accomplished experts in learning development, user experience, technology, and solution and customer advocacy.

allow companies to enrich their virtual training experiences. An Expert at the Helm MLevel Founder and CEO, Jordan Fladell has spent his entire career helping companies solve problems digitally. He started his career in the web design world back in the early ‘90s and continues to expand his experience by adding hosting, SaaS, application development, and infrastructure expertise to his resume. When the opportunity came to help reinvent the training and education space, he couldn’t pass up the opportunity to build a new way to deliver learning on a digital medium. His well-rounded experience in technology and experience in running and operating a business allows him to keep MLevel focused on what matters most to the businesses which fund their existence and drives our company to continued success. Developing Distinctive Content

The Foundation MLevel started as a division of Slalom Consulting with an initial focus on providing game-based learning and to solve three primary challenges in the world of corporate training. The first was an engagement to make training more fun. The second was the speed of creation and deployment of content and the final was to make it highly measurable by providing rich data back to the business on training performance. In 2015, MLevel spun out with the assistance of BIP Capital in Atlanta, Georgia. It has since emerged as a digital learning platform that allows its clients to create, distribute, and measure training content to learners on any platform or device. Its product seamlessly integrates into any LMS, LXP, Portal, Collaboration tools such as Teams, Slack, Webex, Zoom, and others to

When developing content team MLevel focuses on a few key principles which are: Keep it simple – The goal of training in a corporate world is different than in K-20. Learners need easy ways to access and consume content as unlike in school their job isn’t just to learn. Keep it Short – Because their time is valuable, MLevel emphasizes keeping the message short and sweet. Make it fun – Employees are under quite a bit of pressure these days so the company encourages its team to incorporate fun whether it be through a game or adding a leader board. Ensure it’s measurable – Watching a video or an e-

learning package isn’t learning if you don’t measure the output. As they say at MLevel ‘measure twice and cut once’. Challenges and Opportunities in a Growing Market While statistics might show a thriving market, the reality is while many companies talk about the importance of training and educating their workforce, L&D is still the last mile of funding in the corporate budget. As the economy shrinks so do corporate profits and often when they look to cut expenses L&D is often first on the list. Aside, it is a challenge to find L&D professionals that care about data as most have been taught to focus on pedagogy and user experience versus outcomes and performance. Mlevel has been seeing through these challenges by focusing on the benefits it delivers to its client. With MLevel, clients can easily measure the impact of their e-learning and determine what knowledge gaps exist with their associates. They can rapidly create and deploy e-learning content without needing to call IT and their training becomes more fun and engaging. Once clients realize that benefits outweigh the costs incurred, they are happy to associate.

Jordan Fladell Founder & CEO

Technology Experts for the Future

Going forth, MLevel will continue to focus on areas of elearning that need to evolve and incorporate data as a true measure of performance. It will also look to remove the dependency on coding to deliver new technologies to the HRTech community as the freedom from relying on IT empowers creative individuals to do great things.

www.insightssuccess.com

We have a culture of learning and firmly believe that we should not only help our clients learn better, but need to never stop learning ourselves.

The e-learning space continues to evolve and will as the need for virtual education grows across the globe due to pandemics and the new work from home movement. Technologies VR, AR, and AI will continue to change how companies and K-20 deliver education to their learners and I expect data and measurement of these outcomes will become more rigorous as well. MLevel, as a technology platform, combines the power of data with e-learning by making all learning created in the world data-driven and not burden the designer with learning code.

The Future of Education T

e-learning

echnology has always changed the way in which education is conveyed. Classrooms are no longer referred as a physical area. These days it has gotten simpler to get a degree or certificate online. Students no longer need to commute to a classroom and are often ready to learn at their own pace. Only one thing is required and that is—an internet connection to access the lessons and course material. Online learning has been quickly adopted because of the wide-spread access and the numerous advantages it offers. The idea of traditional education has changed fundamentally over the years. Being physically present in a classroom is not considered as the main learning choice any longer. These days, you have access to quality education at whatever point and any place you want provided you have a computer and internet connection. We all are presently entering another new era — the revolution of online education. As per the researcher’s latest survey report, more than 30 percent of students pursuing higher education in the United States are taking separate online courses. Online education is a sensible choice whether you are a youngster or a grown-up. As a student, this can be a useful learning technique for honing your abilities in a difficult subject or learning another skill. Here’re the fundamental reasons why you ought to involve in online education!

Educa on Insights 1. Adaptable Online education empowers the teacher and the student to set their own learning pace, and there is the additional adaptability of setting a timetable that accommodates everybody's plan. Subsequently, utilizing online educational platforms takes into account a superior parity of work and studies, so there is no compelling reason to give anything up. Studying online gives you time to load up new skill, which makes finding a good work-study balance. Having a common agenda between the student and teacher can likewise incite the two players to acknowledge new obligations and have more self-sufficiency. 2. Offers a Wide Choice of Programs In a space as immense and wide as the web, there are lots of skills and subjects to teach and learn. Number of colleges and higher education schools are offering online versions of their programs for different levels and disciplines. From music composition to quantum physics, there are possibilities for each kind of student. Studying online is additionally an extraordinary alternative for getting an official endorsement, recognition, or degree without going to the college campus.

Online classes will in general be littler than ordinary class size. Often online learning platforms permit just one student at a time and practically in all the cases, this results into more noteworthy communication and more feedback among the student and the coach. There is frequent access to diverse material, for example, recordings, videos, photographs, and eBooks, and coaches can incorporate different formats like forums or discussions to improve their lessons. And this extra content is accessible from anyplace and at any time, which will offer a more unique and customized education. 5. More Cost-effective than Traditional Education Unlike face to face education strategies, online education in general will be more moderate. There is also a wide scope of instalment choices that let you pay in portions. This helps in better management of budget. The monetary investment is less but the outcomes can be superior to other options. 3. Easily Available and Accessible Online education empowers you to study or teach from any place on the planet. This implies there is no need to travel from one location then to the next or follow an unbending timetable. You not only save time but also money, which can be spent on different needs. Additionally, the virtual classroom is accessible anywhere with good internet connection. 4. Customized Learning Experience We have referenced before how adaptability can assist you with setting your own study pace. Likewise, online education is adaptable for every student’s individual necessities and level of capacity.

28 | September 2020

Final Thoughts These are just a couple of motivations to pick online education and why 90 percent of students today believe that online learning is equivalent to or is better than the conventional study hall experience. Each student must consider their individual circumstance and decide as per their necessities and objectives while also keeping in mind that this option in contrast to traditional education is not for everybody. Yet, it is an advantageous alternative with unlimited choices for students across the world. -Shruti Jambhale

oney is undoubtedly an integral part of our life. As adults, we work to earn money to provide for daily needs and sustain our lives. It is said that money begets money. The first step towards it is to earn it. Once we earn money, we need to use it and also find ways to put money to use or make more money. One way to achieve this is through investments and trading. Traditionally, the average person has been dependent on investment advisors, professional traders and others in the financial sector to help them with money matters. However, with so much information available and many alternative learning opportunities, the current generation is keen to take matters into their own hands. So, often they learn all that they can through the internet and the rest through experience, which can be a very risky and costly endeavor. Helping such keen learners to develop exceptional trading and investing skills to work towards their financial goals for the past 23 years is Online Trading Academy. Online Trading Academy (OTA) is an international education organization devoted to providing people with the training, tools, and techniques to learn how to trade long and short-term investments with confidence in the financial market. The Company’s mission of enriching lives worldwide with exceptional trading and investing education has driven the organization to focus intensively on creating a world-class education and support organization that has served over 70,000 students worldwide. The Ideator In 2017, Eyal Shahar, the Founder, was inspired once again to work towards fulfilling his dream of providing financial education for anyone who seeks an enriched lifestyle by providing them with software that could help them learn about the markets, place trades with discipline, and manage risk. In 2018, Mr. Shahar met with his executive team and announced that by January 2019 OTA would start delivering classes in worldwide locations and online using this new education, analysis and trading platform called CliK. Energized by the relentless commitment to creating

better experiences for students, the team finalized the Beta version of CliK and launched it around the world. Starting in February 2019, 900 employees and over 100 instructors were trained to support the more than 500 students attending classes every week. Mr. Shahar’s commitment to his students and team members is reflected not only in his vision and drive, but his resilience to go beyond industry standards. Having been in the education sector for the past 20+ years, he recognized that the students were learning how to trade, but the technology in the industry wasn’t keeping up, nor helping the student to identify opportunities and manage risk. The trading platform industry was missing something critical – education embedded in the trading platform. Based upon student feedback so far, CliK is filling a void that has existed for over two decades. Mr. Shahar’s tenacity, and his unyielding drive, created an environment where prospective students can join to learn trading skills that effectively manages risk. Unique Education Model OTA offers a broad range of educational courses to adults that focus on financial planning, risk management and managing asset portfolios. The learning process typically starts with a three-hour free Preview that introduces basic financial and economic concepts relevant to trading. This is followed by a three-day Orientation class where an OTA instructor expands upon the previously introduced concepts and gives a glimpse of the training OTA provides in each of the asset classes like stocks, futures, options, and forex, how to manage risk and take the emotion out of trading and investing. The learner then has a wide range of financial education courses to pick and choose from. This includes OTA’s Core Strategy course, Extended Learning Track (XLT) online course, and more for each asset class. These courses can be taken in-person and/or online in both live and self-paced on-demand formats. OTA students are members for life with unlimited access to repeat most classes and access to all of their education resources, without any additional charge, at most centers around the world or online.

Developing Content with Technology OTA delivers thousands of hours of content every month in the form of articles, videos, webinars, online and in-center classes and guided practice. The content is developed around three main considerations: What changes are impacting the financial industry? What are the instructors researching and developing to better the student experience? And most importantly, what are the students asking for to help them with their educational journey. The content also needs to fit the schedule of busy working people making flexibility a necessity. On-Demand, Online, On Location, and recently added evening classes are supporting those needs along with customization of content. The real game-changer for OTA and its students has been technology and innovation in the form of CliK. The proprietary analysis platform enables users to identify and score the highest probability trades with a guided step-bystep process similar to tools used by professional traders, banks, and institutional traders. Mr. Shahar says, “Time and time again, our students share how much easier it is to make decisions and follow the risk management rules they set for themselves because CliK is programmed to tell you when you deviate from those rules.” CliK is now part of the way OTA teaches and how students learn; in five short months, locations around the network were transitioned to the new interface with seamless execution. Students can enhance their learning and more quickly spend more time practicing the classroom with CliK than they could previously with other more

They develop very practical skills in timing the market and how to leverage various asset classes to manage and protect their investments. Dr Jeff Harris, Ph.D, former SEC Chief Economist, provided an independent assessment of the curricula and attests to the efficacy of OTA’s financial education.
