C
loud migration is the talk of the town and has become a new form of gold rush for enterprises with access to the increasingly more economical, secure and adaptable Cloud infrastructure. While Cloud technology has become a norm to numerous organizational' infrastructure, with 70 percent of companies already having at least one application on the cloud, but 95% of all enterprise applications still await their migration to the Cloud.
With the emergence of advanced Cloud enabling software applications, evolved new challenges to overcome; like, delivering them as a scalable, efďŹ cient SaaS has been the most arduous task due to a dearth of an automated, user-friendly single platform, and secondly to efďŹ ciently and effectively Cloudify and SaaSify software applications.
Reciting the Hymn of Cloud Migration
We all know migration embroils initial movement of the old data followed by the incremental tug of the data from the various sources. But there is a thorough description need to be in place that plots the source data elements to the target data elements. Practical evidences convey that often it is desirable to run the modeled data migration project in parallel with the legacy system so that it is easier to test and determine the success of the migration. Thus, the migration and extraction needs to be setup in a repeated manner so that in case there are some concerns with the migration, it can be re-processed. So, to eradicate this there has been a lot of support from data warehouses in the cloud. Moving data warehouses to the cloud is yielding real business beneďŹ ts, since many vendors are expanding the breadth and depth of services for warehousing and analysis of the data. However, migration is not exempted of challenges. Make sure you think through all the different aspects of data warehouse migration and then come up with an infallible plan to address those challenges.

CloudFX:
Helping Businesses Transform into Digital Organizations
Technology Transformation is a Journey, and we are the Gateway to its Promise
T
he purpose of cloud automation is to ease the complexity that comes with cloud computing adaptation and help businesses leverage themselves. The technology relates itself with the deployment of the different dynamic resources and modules in a cloud computing or virtualized environment. CloudFX is one such industry leader, maniacally focused on ensuring that their clients and partners are capable of transitioning seamlessly into a commercial world grounded in the Digitization of technology through the emergence of Cloud and IoT technologies, ultimately underpinned by automation. After CloudFX’s inception, their purpose was simple, bring ingenuity, innovation and pragmatism to the most disruptive generational period of technological change the world has ever experienced through vendor agnostic technology platforms and solutions. After many years of dedicated R&D, CloudFX has outstandingly developed one of the world's leading Digital, Cloud and IoT platforms. To support the pervasiveness of this platform, they built out and enabled one of the most innovative eco-systems of partners who use their technologies to help customers align to and benefit from this generational shift in technology.
technology is used, provisioned, governed and managed. The reality is, the generic OEM vendor’s have the sales reach and marketing budgets to propagate this image that they are leaders in this space, but the reality is, specialist small companies will define the industry’s direction for the next 5-8 years and I felt like I was in a position to contribute to that definition and potentially lead that change with like minded employees, partners and customers. Embrace the Agile Culture with CloudFX’s Unique Product and Services Damian has spent over two decades in understanding, defining and ultimately leading how companies deliver and efficiently use technology to achieve their goals across the world. These experiences have helped Damian to develop a feeling of responsibility to give back.
‘‘
We Help our Clients Leverage Cloud Technology
‘‘
The Trailblazer of CloudFX Damian Crotty, Founder and Group CEO of CloudFX is a highly experienced technology executive and entrepreneur. He has a diverse, global background and proven track record in leading high growth, mature and start-up technology businesses. With a vision to redefine the way cloud technology is accepted and used, Damian says: At the core of my being is this concept of “thinking arete” which in Greek means “excellence of any kind” or as it applies to my reflections and ambitions with CloudFX “in the pursuit of excellence.” The generational shift in technology was going to have a profound impact on the way companies consume technology, who they consume technology from, how that
To work on his responsibility, Damian started developing the most advanced, innovative, customer focused technology platform and enablement services to align with the reality of what enterprises need to do in order to successfully navigate this generational technological transition. At CloudFX, they have successfully built exceptional platforms, intellectual property, partners who have their own innate capabilities and services that are ultimately aligned around one basic goal and that’s to deliver change that’s measurable, valuable, meaningful and sustainable. Leaving No Stone Unturned Willingness to work hard, learn, be flexible, change direction when needed and remain both curious and open to the changing dynamics of the industry and customer preferences is all that contributes to CloudFX’s innovation agenda.
Damian believes, IT is an unusual industry, and it doesn’t suit his personality. According to him, IT is elusive and unaccountable in many areas with poor strategic and

financial decision making. So, remaining inspired, engaged and sticking to the principles in the face of irrational circumstances are the key attributes to evolve into a global leader in this space. I truly feel for all of the leaders who have grand visions only to see them not realized due to the company’s ability to survive (cash, debt, execution, people churn etc.) but I take none of this personally, it’s sports for me and my guys rise to every challenge so I draw my inspiration from my people, my partners and my customers, combined that with a deep passion for the industry, a commitment to deliver transformative change for our partners and a “zero quit”
mentality, I love the change and challenge.– asserts Damian.
Industry Insights, from Damian's Point of View According to Damian, it’s the most exciting time in the industry’s history on one hand, and yet on the other, people are making technology based decision’s that will determine the ultimate success or failure of their business. Let’s track the last 15 years, 50% of the Fortune 500 have been eliminated due to digital disruption and these companies had unlimited resources to navigate this transition so it’s a massive challenge and most CEO’s and Board’s are not equipped to navigate this due to high strategic and financial
Transforming Challenges into Opportunities CloudFX is attaining new heights every day, and for them opportunities are massive, so they are solely focusing on picking the spaces and segments that they can define, lead and execute better than anyone else. Looking towards a bright future, Damian believes that they will see $1.4TRN of market value created in 5-8 years. This is truly unprecedented in terms of the size of the opportunity and how quickly it’s taking place. Being small, agile and for their case private and devoid of bureaucracy is a massive advantage. Damian’s Advice to the New Entrants in the Industry I read a quote recently that said something to the effect of “You will fail a thousand times, you will lose all your money, you will be ridiculed, you’ll be dismissed, you’ll have people who don’t know you say terrible things about you, you’ll go grey, lose sleep and lose relationships that matter and if you survive all of that over a long term, i.e. 10 years, you’ll be successful”. I am entering my 9th year at CloudFX at the end of 2017 and I’ve experienced all of these things so my advice is this; you need to be so resilient, so assured of your purpose, so enthusiastic and so committed that nothing can or will stop you. It’s an incredible opportunity to help people – employees, customers, partners and I love giving back and seeing people realise their goals, but it’s a hard journey, particularly when I’ve remained committed to staying Private other than Intel Capital and Cisco’s investments, but today, 75% of the company is owned privately. We’ve had a lot of money chasing us but it would compromise our agnostic purity and I won’t compromise my principles for money, so my advice is plan well, execute perfectly, hire exceptionally and I wish you the very best of luck, you’re a warrior and need to be prepared to act and operate like one.
‘‘
Our Goal is to Make IT Transformation Easy
‘‘
acumen but low technological acumen. The reality is, IT is the corporate function most negatively impacted and yet IT is making the calls on how the “business” should drive that change ? The irony of this is never lost on us. IT is notorious for poor decision making, poor project implementation, poor business case goal attainment and delivering initiatives on time. In the past, the business could still operate effectively, but today, that's not the case. If businesses get this transition wrong, they will fail.
Helping Clients to Outshine their Competitors At CloudFX, they help their global customers and partners maximize their share of the $1.4TRN Digital services market through their platform and solution oriented technologies which create digital savvy, agile and innovative business models. They enable Enterprises and Governments to massively increase the effectiveness of IT whilst reducing the cost of business and technology driven services consumption, and they do this across every service type and every vendor. CloudFX is truly unique in integration, automation, management, analytics and billing of these business services irrespective of whether they are on the monetization side or the consumption and transformation side of this economic equation. Geared Up for the Future Easy. Incredible. Why? We have developed the world’s best platform technology, and now it’s in 5th generation. I have an incredible group of people to work with that inspire me daily. I love our partners and care about their business as much as I do by my own. These are the biggest SI’s and MSP’s in the world and they chose us, we are blessed (and so are they). The world is truly at our feet, but because we are so determined, humbled, driven and customer focused, all I care about is the change we bring to the industry, and that’s change done the right way. – says Damian.

he future has a great promise when it comes to the cloud. No doubt, cloud computing has taken off in the recent years with business applications and new innovations. But knowing where will be the cloud computing by the end of the decade can be little difďŹ cult for those who don't know what cloud computing is. So, what is cloud computing and how will it help my business? Cloud computing is a kind of computer hard drive with a difference of storing and accessing data over the internet. When the data is stored on the hard drive, it is called local storage and computing. How will cloud computing evolve? And how will it affect the future? Are the questions organizations aims to ďŹ nd out. Here are some predictions for the companies that look cloud computing as a cost-effective in a long-term.

Application Availability On The Cloud Will Be More It’s estimated that by the end of 2020, more than a quarter of all applications will be available on the cloud. More than 58 percent of companies spend about 10 percent of their annual budgets on the cloud, while about 56 percent of companies think cloud to be a strategic differentiator. As researchers predicted, there will be about 8.2 billion active mobile devices by 2020 with more and more applications to follow. Applications will be made available on the cloud to build and deploy applications that would lead to better technology and faster response time. Migration To Private Clouds With More Education Companies are starting to know the differences between public, private, and hybrid cloud computing. Companies opting to stay with the shared clouds will have the risk of slower performance and more security threats, which would result in migration to private clouds in the future. More Hybrid Cloud Computing Some industry leaders predict that about 50 percent of companies will have hybrid clouds by 2017. Hybrid cloud computing would provide a combination of strengths like on-premise solutions and management convenience. Increased Cloud Development An 85 percent of the new applications are being built with the cloud in mind, which expects to see more and more resources going towards cloud development. Companies can expect an increase in the third party, commercial and enterprise developers and API exchanges. End Of Traditional Infrastructure Due to the evolving features of the cloud, software can be expected to almost completely stay away from hardware, since many companies are starting to search many applications available online by eliminating the need to keep buying new servers. Companies can expect software applications to get more complex and larger for scalability. The emphasis will be mostly on modular software since applications tend to get larger. The modular software will require a novel approach to the technology by saying goodbye to the traditional infrastructure. 22

o be competitive, organizations are looking to use technology to drive innovation into their products and services, and simultaneously deliver efficiencies. The Cloud promises to be an enabler for business transformation - providing the agility for organisations to rapidly learn and adapt with less risk of failure, and at lower cost. Cost is a consideration but more than that, it provides an opportunity to reduce waste and improve efficiencies.
Matt Wright, CTO, Rubicon Red, says “Digital transformation presents a significant opportunity for our customers in terms of driving innovation and accelerating time to business value. As organizations adopt new technologies and move to blended solutions comprising SaaS, private cloud and on-premise apps, integration plays a critical role.” Rubicon Red, a globally recognized and awarded thought leader in Oracle middleware, recommends a phased approach to help organizations modernize their IT environments, migrating from largely on-premise systems, to hybrid cloud environments. Through a phased approach, Oracle Middleware customers can get the combined the benefits of Cloud plus DevOps to upgrade their environments, adopt cloud, streamline development processes, and concurrently minimize risk and cost. Matt says, “We can help customers migrate from Oracle SOA 11g to SOA 12c, establish a cloud platform to seamlessly run Oracle SOA 12c on the Cloud, optimize their integrations, and drive further innovation through new integrations, SaaS extensions, new processes or mobile channels.” The Best Recipe: Cloud + DevOps Moving Oracle Middleware development to the cloud (lift and shift) is a natural first step, and when coupled with a DevOps strategy means organizations can streamline their development processes. “Organizations that fully embrace the cloud for Dev and Test are experiencing more than 30 percent time savings upon maturing their DevOps capabilities,” says Matt.

When it comes to running Oracle Middleware in the Cloud, customers have a couple of options. Oracle Cloud Platform as a Service (PaaS) provides the breadth and depth of functionality to rapidly build and deploy rich applications and extend Oracle Cloud SaaS apps and integrate with existing business-critical IT systems. SOA Cloud Service and Integration Cloud Service are the ideal approach for Oracle middleware customers to migrate their integrations to the cloud. Alternatively, customers could select an Infrastructure as a Service provider and install the Oracle SOA Suite. To unlock the commercial and speed to market benefits of developing in the cloud, the process of taking code developed and tested in the cloud and deploying it into production needs to be frictionless. The key pre-requisites to achieving this are having a standardized and automated process for building and deploying code across all environments. This is where Rubicon Red MyST, the end-to-end DevOps solution for Oracle Middleware, comes into it’s own for provisioning, configuration and release automation across cloud and on-premise, irrespective of your cloud provider. “MyST allows you to easily configure an Oracle SOA Cloud Service to replicate your production environment or provision and configure a Middleware as a Service on top of an existing IaaS provider – as well as fully automate the build out of your on-premise production environments,” assures Matt. Further, “MyST allows clients to establish a single integrated process for automating the promotion of the Oracle Middleware platform configurations and application deployment through each and every phase of the software delivery lifecycle - from development and testing to production, both in the cloud and on-premise.” “Combining cloud-based development with DevOps is the perfect combination – reducing development time, whilst concurrently minimizing risk and cost,” says Matt. He goes on to share a great example of Cloud plus DevOps at an Australian Oil and Gas company. “Using MyST, they can provision a new Dev/Test environment on the cloud in less than 60 minutes, whereas previously it would take 4-8 weeks to provision a new environment, manually. And, using the MyST release automation capabilities, they’ve slashed release time from 4-8 hours to ~15 minutes.”

f you still think organizations are transitioning to the cloud, ITsavvy thinks you’ve got it all wrong. Most organizations have already embraced the cloud, either in total or in part. Today, it is the cloud providers who are in transition, or at least they should be. To be competitive, cloud providers need to offer their clients more options, better support and improved control. Unfortunately, as their users have discovered, the big cloud providers are really good at offering computing and storage space, but they may neglect to deliver on the customization, service and support behind the solutions that cloud users require. Some further fall short in the post-sales relationship that users desire and often demand. For ITsavvy, that presents a tremendous opportunity. “When others drop the ball, ITsavvy excels,” says Mike Theriault, President and CEO of ITsavvy. Theriault co-founded ITsavvy with Chris Kurpeikis, the company’s Executive Vice President. Headquartered in Addison, Illinois, ITsavvy has offices in downtown Chicago, New York, New Jersey, Florida, Iowa, Indiana, Ohio and California. ITsavvy’s success comes from a unique ability to combine an elite level of knowledge with state-of-the-art delivery of IT products and Advanced Solutions that include Cloud Solutions, Security Solutions, Managed Services, Engineered Solutions and Unified Communications. “We keep an ear to the ground to recognize subtle changes before they become industry trends. It helps us stay ahead of the pack,” Theriault says. Clients demand service and selection When ITsavvy initiated their Cloud Solutions practice, they immediately understood what the market wanted: selection, security and service. “Clients want customizable solutions. They want the opportunity to select the cloud solution that is best suited for their operation and their business objectives,” says Theriault. To meet the full spectrum of needs, ITsavvy offers not only complete cloud solutions through Amazon, Microsoft and Google but also customizable public, private and hybrid clouds along with colocation and a managed cloud solution within ITsavvy’s own data centers. ITsavvy adds expert problem-solving For some cloud engagements, it takes specialized knowledge to identify the ideal solution. “We had a client with 30 worldwide locations, all running separate backup processes, and a number of them were failing. The client wanted to consolidate everything into a new infrastructure, but it would take months,” Theriault explains. “We have a very creative engineer on our staff with advanced backup and disaster recovery expertise. Within a week he had deployed a cloud backup solution to automate and remotely manage the client’s backups while the onsite infrastructure was being built. It was a solution they hadn't thought of, but it was exactly what they needed.” In the end, however, most cloud clients just want to know their data will be there when they need it. That seems simple, but it’s actually quite complicated. ITsavvy helps clients understand what data they want to migrate, what applications they’ll be utilizing, how legacy and cloud systems will integrate, how fast they need data restored, whether they have compliance requirements and a host of other factors. “I consider governance of data to be the piece that is missing with most cloud providers, but it’s one of our strengths,” Theriault says. “We understand how processes integrate and how data flows in and out of the operation. Trying to do that on your own is extremely difficult, particularly in a customized or hybrid environment.” The future of cloud is hybrid Few organizations have committed their entire infrastructure to the cloud, so most environments become a hybrid of many technologies. Hybrid cloud may leverage public and private clouds, enabling the migration of data and workloads between cloud and onsite environments when needed. “I don’t think there is any more debate. The hybrid cloud model will be the approach of choice by most organizations. We are well-positioned to support this strategy,” Theriault says. ITsavvy can design and architect complex cloud environments, then monitor and manage them utilizing the support of ITsavvy’s in-house Network Operations Center (NOC) with 24x7x365 event remediation. Clients can add ITsavvy’s elite expertise in security event remediation, as well. It’s all part of the holistic approach that ITsavvy takes with each client.

magine a scenario where you are moving from one river bank to the other side of it on a boat, and suddenly you realize that there is a hole on the below surface of the boat. As the water starts pouring in, your first instinct is to remove the water from the surface of the boat, rather than go straight ahead to block the hole. Well, that has always been the story of IT security team. Rather than finding the real issues, they lack the complete visibility, and more than often they end up getting confused while figuring out which points to protect in the entire infrastructure. With constant vital threats, and the safety kits along with a number of resources at their disposal, all the IT security teams end up by functioning in a regular reactionary mode, while a strategic, preemptive security suite takes a back seat. With that in mind, a virtual network, that has been gaining wide popularity, further complicate visibility issues, adding to more worries. Virtual networking defines the technology, which is facilitated by the governance of one or more

distantly positioned computers or servers over the wide network. This allows easy data storage and retrieval, along with operating, and running of software and peripherals with the help of a web browser, similar to the case in which remote hardware were at the same location. Generally, such virtual systems are swirled up at required instances, and for each security team and identifiers, these are allocated, they may not be in synchronization along with narrow registered safety guidelines. This may result in many network security teams having none sort of provision to executive consoles and partial intuition for the overall understanding of shifting network architectures affect on their attack surface. This problem can be dealt with all-inclusive network modeling methods covering entire virtual networks, so as network security engineers might get the much required visibility to combine security and compliance function amidst its fusion hardware and virtual systems. Verifying Access The complexity is certainly the big test for the procedure | October 2017 |
Chalk Talk breakdown the data center into analytical parts and succeeds these segments with a large number of IT security policies. Further, micro segmentation is used for segmenting east-west data transport in the data center into small chunks, and delivers into secured sectors. Even so, with the lack of security visibility to understand implementation of micro segmentation, it becomes impossible to validate procedure which is followed across the entire network. By mixing and demonstrating north to south and east to west procedures, IT security groups can improve endwise access visibility all over its hybrid network. The Standarddriven visibility also offers an additional credible view of functional procedure at the host side, instead of authenticating access individually at “choke points” and at the gateways to the virtual systems. Finding Liabilities from the Virtual Systems One of the major additional benefits of casting virtual and cloud systems is without a scan vulnerability detection system. Security analysis directed at the casting of virtual and cloud networks can find out liabilities with the help of product configuration and its description. This can pointedly reduce dependence on active or third party scans, as this increases complexity; it becomes difficult to function on virtual and cloud networks. The combination of hardware, virtual networks and cloud computing with the different safety groups and identifiers, alongside conventional ACLs (Access control list), creates manual assessment and diagnosis nearly impossible. Micro segmentation: Enters the newfangled Phenomenon Traditionally, data centers have been secured by border security technologies, diagnosing north-south traffic-traffic in and out of the data center. Conventionally, many of the data center architects believe that entire east to west transport, which is moving into the data center, happens only in reliable and secured zones. Technology and Network Convergence: Forging a Path to Smart Grid, Smart Cities and Internet of Things
I
n North America, utilities have installed nearly 70 million smart meters over the last decade. This technology investment has delivered tangible value to both utilities and consumers. But utilities have yet to realize the full potential of this platform and the value of the data these systems generate. This is primarily due to common challenges that utilities as well as technology providers have struggled with: Ÿ
Smart meters are viewed mainly as a cash registers and instruments of customer billing rather than as sophisticated sensors that provide a rich source of data and insight to improve grid operations.
For the most part, smart metering systems have been deployed in technology “silos,” meaning they run on purpose-built, largely proprietary networks that were designed for meter reading rather than on a standardsbased, multi-application IP-platform. Ÿ These systems have created a relative tsunami of new data–more frequent and detailed usage data, event data from power outages and voltage anomalies and meter tamper alerts–data that utilities are struggling to manage and create new business value from. Ÿ More than smart meters, the term “smart grid” implies grid devices, assets and data interacting in real time and with less human intervention to respond to changing grid conditions. This degree of interoperability and automation has been elusive or cost-prohibitive thus far for the low-voltage level of the network. Ÿ
Most of these challenges are technology-centered, while some are cultural and organizational, but the upside is that these challenges are being solved. Information technology and operational technology are converging rapidly in the utility and energy space to create a new strategic and operational reality. This comes none too soon in light of significant business challenges utilities worldwide are facing as well as the economic and environmental challenges we all face. Led by companies such as Cisco and Itron, a growing ecosystem of smart grid technology providers have 32
collaborated to evolve network architecture so that utility field area networks look and behave much more like enterprise IT networks. Solution providers are also introducing more distributed intelligence to grid operations that enable grid assets and devices that are currently “siloed” to work in concert with one another. In addition, the available value stream of this network infrastructure investment is broadening by connecting to emerging markets and applications such as smart cities and the Internet of Things (IoT). The heavy lifting really began four years ago when Itron and Cisco announced an agreement to work together to rearchitect Itron’s widely-deployed OpenWay smart grid network to IPv6 architecture from Cisco. This joint development effort, undertaken by the industry leaders in utility automation and networking, was a watershed effort in the industry. The smart metering network became a multi-application smart grid and smart city network, broadening significantly its usefulness and value. A growing ecosystem of leading smart grid technology providers can now build to a common reference architecture through the Connected Grid Cisco Developer Network to accelerate adoption and spark innovation. But standards-based, multi-application network architecture by itself was not enough to address all those challenges. Itron believes that for the smart grid to deliver on its promised value, data analysis and action must take place where it makes most sense–increasingly at the edge of the network rather than in the utility back office. That’s the whole idea behind ITRON RIVA™, a new distributed intelligence and advanced communication platform the company launched this fall. Distributing intelligence across the network allows us to economically solve utility problems that couldn’t be feasibly solved before, greatly increasing the value and timeliness of smart grid analytic applications as well as the utilization of network capacity. Specifically, these development efforts yield a new and common set of technology attributes for meters, grid sensors and other types of intelligent devices, whether they come from Itron | October 2017 |

Locational awareness: For the first time, smart meters and grid devices know where they are in relation to other grid assets (feeders, phases, substations, transformers, distributed generation, other meters, etc.). This “self-awareness” opens up an entirely new approach to smart grid use cases and applications.
Ÿ
Ÿ
“Multilingual” devices: A unified software platform supports multiple communication/application protocols, allowing a single meter or grid device to simultaneously speak the language of distribution automation, load control, and smart metering. This enables highly localized communication and action among diverse devices, assets and grid control systems to respond to changing conditions at the edge of the network. Edge processing power: Thanks to Moore’s Law, Itron is embedding the computing equivalent of a recent generation smartphone in high-volume meters and grid devices to enable advanced communications, data processing and analysis in the edge device.

are, process and analyze data independently and communicate with other types of devices creates many new possibilities for improving the accuracy, resolution and timeliness of analytic applications. A clear opportunity exists to deliver new business value in areas such as localized demand response/load control, asset monitoring and management, outage detection and response, renewables integration and diversion detection. This approach allows utilities to put intelligence where it makes the most sense, whether that's in the edge device, the field area network itself or at the enterprise level, meaning analytics no longer must always take place in the back office where “tomorrow” or “next week” is no longer good enough.
Perhaps most interestingly, the Itron Riva distributed intelligence platform has enabled Itron to revolutionize grid communications. Known as adaptive communications technology, this capability incorporates multiple communications media–RF Mesh, Wi-Fi and Power Line Carrier–on the same chipset, working in concert to solve key network performance and connectivity challenges. Running on the OpenWay smart grid network, adaptive communications technology always utilizes the fastest and most reliable communication path for every message and every link based on location, network operating conditions and the nature of the application or data. This is true whether communicating with an office application or another device on the grid. This makes deployment of network infrastructure easier, faster and less costly while offering a single communications solution for both dense and difficult urban environments as well as lower-density areas. Adaptive communications technology flattens the cost curve during the latter stages of network deployment when the “hard-toreach” devices and areas must be addressed. In other words, it provides a network that continuously self-optimizes based on geography, topology, operating conditions and business requirements. Together, these developments mean that many utilities throughout the world are in a good position to leverage these recent and significant advancements in network architecture, edge intelligence and analytics as they implement their grid modernization strategies and connect to broader opportunities such as smart cities and IoT. There is absolutely no doubt that the convergence of information technology and operational technology in the global utility industry will continue and accelerate, and that technology advancement will continue to outpace the asset lifecycle paradigm utilities have so long operated within. Nevertheless, thresholds are reached that warrant a shift in thinking about how to approach and solve problems. For 34

he cloud has now become a well-established deployment option for business applications. It provides an exceptional ground for grounding the business intelligence systems, as it provides business agility, scalability, and lowers the total cost of ownership. So, it is a little uncharacteristic that although most applications have migrated to the cloud, data warehouses the fundamental of any business intelligence structures - are still mostly on proposition.
There could be multiple business users and business units who are using the data. We can also ease out the migration process by prioritizing and breaking down the whole data warehouse into significant business process subject areas. Select the right cloud vendor for your warehouse
Of course, that's not entirely surprising given that businesses have invested heavily in an on-premise data warehouse technology, with strong concerns about protecting sensitive data. Being seamless, migration of the data warehouse to the cloud must ensure that additional cloud security measures are addressed.
There are numerous cloud providers out there in the market. Amazon, Google Cloud, Microsoft Azureare some of the market leaders in among cloud solution provider’s industry. Based on the outcome of the classification of the existing warehouse, we must create a matrix of the functionalities required vs. existing features in respective cloud provider’s environment and then make the final choice. Of course, the monetary expenses also play a vital role in making this decision.
Steps required to be supervised while migration of the Data Warehouses
Identify technology choices depending on there siliency of concept projects
Characterize the current data warehouse along multiple dimensions
Choosing the appropriate database technology for hosting the warehouse is the most important technology decision to be made. You are required to identify the queries symbolizing the typical workload based on performance tests. The factors needed to be considered while making this decision are:
Detailed analysis should be carried out to cover the sensitive data aspects very carefully. It should be taken under consideration on what options are provided by the cloud vendor, and what are the organizational needs for the confidentiality. Thorough analysis of the regulatory standards must be carried out.

is desirable to run the modeled data migration project in parallel with the legacy system so that it is easier to test and determine the success of the migration. The migration and extraction needs to be setup in a repeated manner so that in case there are some concerns with the migration, it can be re-processed.
Preparing a surefire migration plan
Test the success of migration
Preparing a well thought out project plan is certainly crucial for a successful migration. You must primarily involve business users in the entire decision making and project plan. They should be fully aware of the migration strategy and in fact they must contribute in testing the new system.
In the primary stage of the data migration, we typically test and compare one or several sample queries and data sets. In addition, we would like to commend comparison of row counts of objects, min and max values as well as sample data row assessments. Outlining the success criteria for the migration and testing is of greatest importance to ensure long term success of the cloud data warehouse. You also need to reassure that incremental data loads work correctly throughout.
Ÿ
Real-time data processing needs
Ÿ Ÿ
Infrastructure readiness Most data warehouse projects on the cloud are required to set up a VPC. A VPC houses the entire production warehouse setup. It is very important to create corresponding environments for development, UAT and QA to ensure smooth operations of the systems. Set up access control and security on each of the environments. Also lay out the complete architecture beforehand. Complete the migration Migration embroils initial movement of the old data followed by the incremental tug of the data from the various sources. A thorough description needs to be in place that plots the source data elements to the target data elements. It | October 2017 |
Conclusion Nowadays, there has been a lot of support for data warehouses in the cloud. Moving data warehouses to the cloud is yielding real business benefits, since many vendors are expanding the breadth and depth of services for warehousing and analysis of the data. However, migration is not exempted of challenges. Make sure you think through all the different aspects of data warehouse migration and then come up with an infallible plan to address those challenges. 37

Understanding Cloud Transformation Cloud solutions are driving the digital transformation agenda more quickly than anyone would have imagined less than 3 years ago. Today, organisations are delivering solutions in the Cloud that wouldn’t have been possible in similar, traditional, on premise applications. Modern digital applications give the power to the business, shortening the time to value for end users, reducing the time scales and costs for project implementations by providing a more powerful, scalable software platform. Internally, business and IT teams will need to work together to assess their requirements to ensure that they purchase a Cloud solution that will support their current and future. At M-Power Solutions they often speak to customers who have purchased other Cloud EPM and BI solutions and are now moving to Oracle Cloud solutions because what was perceived as a lower cost option did not deliver the functionality, scalability or performance that they needed. Looking forward to a bright future the company believes, integration of Cloud services will also be a key challenge for internal IT teams. The hybrid world of on premise and Cloud solutions that is developing will need to be considered carefully by IT departments ensuring that the services they bring in are open and able to be integrated into their current environment. Clients’ Satisfaction equals to M-Power Soutions’ Success M-Power provides pre-built Xcelerate Templates for the Oracle EPM & BI Cloud which enables their customers to deliver quicker, cheaper, better solutions with less risk, and that's a perfect combination!
