The World Scholar's Cup (WSC) : Spread across 34 countries, this prestigious event was first brought to India by the Ryan Group. Please tell us about the saga of GIIS since its inception . We have come a long way since our inception in 2002. Back then, GIIS had a small presence at Mount Sophia in Singapore with a strength of just 48 students. In the last 16 years, we have grown to span seven countries with 22 campuses combined in Singapore, Malaysia, Japan, Thailand, UAE, Vietnam and India.

Today, we are a leading international school in Pune offering Indian and International curricula to students from diverse backgrounds.

We, at GIIS Pune, have steadfastly focused on providing an extraordinary education to students from all over the world.

CChildren are our future. And getting futuristic education is every child's birthright. However, the Indian traditional education system–inheriting a deep-rooted colonial influence due to the two hundred years British Raj, is full of loopholes like the unavailability of competent curriculum, teachers, staff, infrastructure, societal awareness and political will, and economic investment. What is available are age-old issues like class-cast-religious-language bias, inequality, ignorance on the part of parents, and much more.

Nevertheless, alas, the Indian education system is still wearing its old stereotypical chalk and talk curriculumistic, exam-centric and outdated framework which instead of providing students with a platform to grow and substantiate their innate talents entirely lacks the temperaments essential to giving the basis of a strong future-oriented acumen which is suitable for students varied talents.

Coming of the International Schools

Breaking this stereotypical outdated educational system was necessary. There has been unprecedented acceleration in innovation in the education sector during and post-pandemic. As an educationist, I feel we need to tap this or perhaps add on to this outcome. We need to transform the education landscape in order to sustain those innovations for the times to come.

We have ICT enabled classrooms equipped with smart boards and projectors. Extensive use of e-learning platforms such as Olabs, Geogebra, Augmented Reality, Nearpod, Flipgrid, Mentimeter, AR Loopa, Assembler, Open Door etc., are encouraged to provide an engaging teaching experience.

Keeping the K12 system of education in mind, the scholastic and co-scholastic curriculum has been designed to maintain the mental maturity of the students. Assignments are framed to encourage the students to answer value-based questions stating their views and opinions. These are followed by a discussion forum, debate, role play etc. We wish to continue and further improvise this form of education eventually.

As an experienced professional, what would you like to advise the budding entrepreneurs willing to venture into the education niche?

The education sector is very dynamic in nature. If one wishes to venture into it, the first thing one needs to do is to st be well-read and imbibe a 21-century education mindset within oneself.

Patience, I believe, is also a crucial factor here. It takes years of dedication and faith to carve one's niche. The pandemic has taught us the essence of adaptability. An entrepreneur, too, needs to have a dynamic approach and adapt to the changing needs of the time.
