he HVAC industry is playing a major role in today’s world. HVAC systems are becoming an important component in today’s modern infrastructure. Nowadays, these systems can be seen in almost all the existing and upcoming commercial and residential buildings. Infrastructural development and rapid urbanization have contributed to the growth of the market for HVAC systems in India. A recent study states that the HVAC market in India will reach US $3.97 billion by 2019. The growth in hospitality, retail and commercial sectors is playing a significant role in boosting the demand for the system in the country, as these sectors are applying HVAC systems on a large scale, including retail outlets, shopping complexes, hotels and so on. Moreover, it is expected that with FDI growth, many international players will enter and start operations in the Indian retail market.
The Indian HVAC Industry: Steadily Making its Mark on the World
The Indian HVAC market captured majority revenue share in the room air conditioning segment in 2013, and is expected to take over once again by 2019. It is mainly because of portability, hassle-free installation and less space requirement of room air conditioning systems. On the other hand, centralized air conditioners are comparatively costlier and are mostly used in large offices where there is the requirement of more refrigeration for effective cooling. Moreover, the market share of room air conditioners in India is expected to grow during the next five years because of the emergence of many residential projects. Though the HVAC market in India is steadily approaching towards growth and development, there are some major challenges it has to overcome. The projects are not executed properly and the focus on the life cycle cost is being overlooked. Proper standards and guidelines are not being followed. The performance standard is revised in every 2 years. The industry sets its product line-up for 1 year; but the next year, they have to change it again. The advent of more and more multinational companies in India has increased the expectations of customers. High cutting edge technology equipments, state of the art execution followed by a great piece of commissioning, operation and maintenance are the need of the hour. The HVAC industry of India is marching ahead towards a bright future making its presence felt in the global market and competing with the top players.

n this modern age of technological advancements and stiff competition, performing innovatively and providing the best-possible services to the clients can help organizations to survive and excel among the competitors and take the business to the next level. HTL Aircon is an organization which is focused to provide services to the customer on PAN India basis. To excel in this initiative, the company has opened branches in other growing cities, i.e. Bangalore, Pune, Hyderabad and Delhi. It is targeting to attain a turnover of 100 Cr in the financial year 2018. In the financial year 2015-16, the company has grown by 38% which signifies tremendous potential of the HVAC (Heating, Ventilation & Air conditioning) market in India. Being one of the top Dealers of DAIKIN India, it gets the added advantage of the DAIKIN brand (one of Japan's major air conditioning company). With the Prime Minister's new Initiatives of “Make in India” and “Smart City”, it feels that there will be a lot of scope for industrial air conditioning in the days to come. It also applauds the Govt’s initiative of GST, which will also enhance the air conditioning market. The company expects growth due to introduction of GST from July ‘17, as the PAN India market will be boundary less with respect to any state. It plans to diversify to Electrical and Plumbing, Fire Fighting systems and graduate to a MEP (Mechanical,

Electrical and Plumbing) Contractor. It expects that the “Swachch Bharat” initiative will create a lot of opportunities for public health requirements which will generate plumbing and drainage jobs in rapid pace. The company feels that this opportunity can be easily encashed as 60% of the company's employees are in the age bracket of 25-35 years. An Industrious Leader Trailblazing from the Front The person responsible for leading HTL Aircon towards the road of success is none other than Mr. Lavinder Duggal, the Managing Director of HTL Aircon Pvt. Ltd. He is a BE in Mechanical Engineering from Govt. Engineering College, Jabalpur. He has gathered vast experience of over twenty five years in the field of air-conditioning while working in various companies like M/s Batliboi & Co, and eminent Dealers of M/s Voltas Ltd, M/s Carrier Aircon Ltd, M/s Blue Star Ltd and now Daikin India Pvt.Ltd. Mr. Duggal believes that the main qualities a leader should possess are raising the standards, being dynamic and thinking out of box and staying ahead of the curve. He follows three founder guiding principles, which are: a) If a thing is worth doing, it is worth doing it well; b) Quality is something you give, when no one is looking at you; c) Let's talk about it less and practice it more. The industry at large has branded HVAC vendors as 'Show Stoppers’ strictly, as quite a quantum of work and dependency of other agencies is on HVAC Contractors. This has earned a bad name for HVAC professionals and that precisely irks the MD of HTL the most. Mr. Duggal is out on a mission to change that opinion of the industry from a black sheep to becoming the strength of project management companies. He leads the company towards being proactive and the least burden of project management companies. Client Satisfaction and Employee Enhancement: The Prime Objective of HTL The company ensures that it satisfies all the people who have hired its services, be it clients, PMC, consultants, architects, and so on. It feels that the element that ails this industry is the lack of commitments and investments to upgrade and train the professionals. Without these investments, contractors want better margins. It also lays a lot of stress on the training of employee in all aspects of business, be it technicians, project team, customer service team, accounts, HR, and back office. Technical skill enhancement, soft skills, communication and leadership training is imparted as a curriculum. This way the company

is raising the bar of the industry which is its maxim. It marches ahead on its successful journey relying on the simple strategy of investing in people, technology and training. Team HTL idolizes Sir Richard Branson and his famous quote, “We take care of the employee and the employee in turn takes care of the customers”. It considers its team as its first customers. While others are after wealth, the company believes in employee as its foremost wealth. It provides them with the best of the training, best of tools and latest technology for installing equipments, which not only enhances productivity, but also has a distinct quality of finish. The design team is empowered with latest AutoCAD Licensed version and it will soon be embarking on RIVET for 3-D views and better understanding of services. HTL has a team of professionals with an average of 20 years of industry experience while including the member of top management council along with the CEO. The continuous training and upgradation skills will match the talent updated with the industry. Providing Quality Service HTL’s main motto is to provide high-quality services to its customers. It provides a wide range of services and caters to various sectors including banking and finance, residential, commercial, corporate, hospitality, health clubs, factories, education, gems and jewelers, supermarkets, and so on. WE MOVE OR
GET MOVED – OUR PURPOSE IS NOT ‘GAP’
FULFILLMENT BUT TO FACILITATE
‘Evolution’ D
uring the last few weeks I have been spending considerable time with my friends from Learning and Development domain and during the course of our discussions many topics arose; the most fundamental and critical one being – what is our purpose in this new age?
The new age is more than ever challenging because internet and technology have made knowledge accessibility a noncompetitive or non-strategic leveller. Today, anybody with a smart phone and internet access can reach any depths of knowledge and doesn’t necessarily require a classroom and teacher to acquire knowledge. In this new age where the economy is slow and every penny matters, the organizations and managers are equally not excited to nominate folks to programs. In this age of instant gratification wherein participants believe that by merely attending a course nirvana is granted, fundamentals are to be revisited and that includes relooking at what is the PURPOSE of the LEARNING FUNCTION. Learning & Development as a function has evolved with times and is again at cross roads today. Traditionally it was seen as a function which simply facilitated ‘Fulfilling GAPS’, in terms of skills / competencies and thereby enabled the overall development of capability building both at the individual and organizational level. Then came a phase where it became a 16

strategic function by enabling the business to identify its future leaders and groom them. In time, now it has again reached a threshold of evolution. Learning as a function is poised to enable Organizations and its employees to ‘EVOLVE’. ‘Evolution’ is drastically different from ‘Fulfilling Gaps’ in many ways, starting from the fact where Fulfilling Gaps is perceived more as ‘near’ term and transactional in nature; whereas Evolution is more Futuristic and Strategic in purpose. Fulfilling Gaps is seen more as a responsibility of Learning Function whereas Evolution is a co-creation process between the various stakeholders. The biggest difference is Evolution thrives to make the organizations and its stakeholders Future Ready in a more comprehensive fashion than we do now. Evolution is not possible to achieve if the following fundamentals are not in place. The Learning function has to ensure that foundations for these fundamentals are established: We will Focus to make Organizations Future Ready Fundamentally, the Learning function should focus on making the organization future ready. It could be in terms of making it more flexible to adopt to change, or having a leadership pipeline in place, or Institutionalizing Values as cultural ethos and thereby creating a unique DNA for retention or attraction of Talent and so on. This doesn’t mean Learning should not focus on the daily bread & butter issues of gap fulfilment of immediate needs, but it also needs to draw a line on how much do we invest in today and how much for tomorrow? We are not responsible to make Employees Resume Sexy Knowingly or unknowingly Learning function has made needs identification from Performance Appraisals as the Primary and only source. More than often it has been observed that the needs identified during this process are more aligned to the individual personal aspirations rather than business requirements. It is no wonder that at the end of the year we often realize that much of the budget could have better utilized or optimized if we gave up the responsibility of making employees resumes future ready. We will focus on those who are geared up to make a difference Learning is a two-way process. We can’t force adults into rooms and expect them to learn, absorb and implement if they are not ready or keen to do so. So why do we invest equal amount of time and energy on those who are keen to learn and those who are there only to warm the seats? It is imperative that we focus only on those who are geared up to make a difference as that would be a winner for all the stakeholders. We are not responsible for food & sanitation In the quest for evolution, we can’t be held ransom on issues like food or sanitation of the training facilities etc. We should refocus our energy on issues like the alignment of learning programs and aspirations, the applicability of the learning’s at the workplace and so on. It’s time to dump the existing measuring parameters of our learning interventions and focus on issues which would truly reflect the spirit of evolution. We are ready to Risk it As a true business partner, we should be accountable for some measurements which we strive for and should be ready to risk our reputation on the same in a similar fashion in which business does. Our measurements should focus on how much more businesses we could generate, how much the productivity and profitability grew, how ready are we for future in terms of a leadership pipeline, how ready are we in terms of organizations overall capability, what is our build v/s buy ratio and so on. Evolution isn’t easy, but it is the top priority in all the CEO agenda. Evolution is the opportunity for us to recast ourselves from being perceived as a reactive support function to being projected as a futuristic business partner. It is up to us now that how we make the move and move on…

Highlights
TheRemarkable Emergence of
Solar Energy as a Key player in the US S
olar energy has nowadays become the most reliable and affordable source of electricity implementing nationwide development to reduce global warming pollution, which makes the country cleaner, saving fuel costs as well. Usually small-scale Solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, focusing on building roofs, whereas large-scale PV systems and Concentrating Solar Power (CSP) systems represent the majority of Solar’s complete electricitygenerating capacity. Solar energy has the capability to provide a significant amount of electricity in both environmentally as well as economically attractive way. Solar Energy is Increasingly Becoming Cheaper Observations and recent data suggest that the prices for rooftop PV systems have declined markedly in recent years. The rising profit is a result of decrease in technology prices, innovative financing, and developed networks of Solar installers and financial partners. However, Solar consumers are paying very little; Tax credits, rebates, and other support in leading states could cut the total costs of a rooftop system to under $10,000, which will supply electricity with a fixed rate for a longer period of time. Large-scale PV project costs have fallen more than household systems, 60 percent less than residential Solar on a per-watt basis. And about CSP system the costs are not reduced as like small scale PV or Large scale PV, but it's capable of being storage of sun's energy as heat, so that it can utilize when there is no sunlight. The Reasonable Availability of Solar Energy in Northern Climates PV generation requires the amount of sunlight, which differs by less than 30% for a few countries, still making Solar energy feasible in northern climates. Whereas in sunny locations like Los Angeles or Phoenix, a five-kilowatt home rooftop PV system produces an around 7,000 to 8,000 kilowatt-hours per year, which is approximately similar to the electricity use of a typical U.S. household. These same systems in Portland, Maine (in northern climates) would
produce 85 % of what it would in Los Angeles, 95 % of what it would in Miami, and 6% more than it would in Houston. Florida and Hawaii (in the southwest) are the best examples for CSP. Rapid growth of Solar Energy According to the Solar Energy Industries Association and GTM Research, the U.S. Solar energy grew by 6.2 gigawatts in 2014, a 30 percent increase over the previous year and representing nearly $18 billion in new investment. Before 2014, the United States had more than 480,000 Solar systems installed, adding up to 13,400 megawatts (MW), sufficient to generate 2.4 million typical U.S. households. In 2013 the U.S. Solar industry hired more than 140,000 people that is a 53% raise over 2010, and almost $15 % investment in the U. S. Economy yearly. Today, there are more than 6,000 Solar companies in the U.S, penetrating over all 50 states. Rooftop Solar, not only improving the environment of the company, but also reduces the operating costs and PV systems create electricity without water, unlike coal, nuclear, and other power plants. Similarly, Solar panel creates electricity without air or carbon pollution, solid waste or resources other than sunlight. Major Steps towards Accelerating the Growth in Solar Energy What are the necessary steps that should be taken on this rising situation? First and most important is each state should maintain and need to increase the strength in their key policies for operating the renewable energy investments, including Solar. The next important thing is the federal investment tax credit for Solar’s move is set to reduce at the end of 2016 from 30% to 10%; each state needs to clinch about Solar that plays a vital role in their plants to lessen emissions to follow with the Environmental Protection Agency’s new carbon standards. Rooftop Solar will help policy makers to elect the most suitable way to help other people for Solar adoption. Storage of energy will assist at the time of the blackout. Companies should provide shelter from rooftop to large-scale projects so that it could reshape their business models and get benefited by reducing costs through substantial economies of scale, increasing cell and module efficiencies, enhanced inverters and mounting systems, fine heat transfer, and streamlined transactions. Solar prevails over wind and coal According to Researchers, it has been mentioned that coming five years in the U.S. PV market, which does not include concentrated Solar plants has indicated by four times more developed than Wind Energy and Coal. The natural gas added greater share of new generating capacity. It has been expected a monumental growth in California and Arizona market where newly implemented regions include Virginia, the Carolinas, Georgia and Louisiana. Retail rate parity has also been increased since 2016 and expanded beyond California and followed by Nevada, Massachusetts, Arizona and New Jersey, made an organized Solar market. New Mexico, Missouri and Maryland are also rapidly growing in Solar implementation. New Mexico’s 88MW gain in Solar capacity made it top 10 state for Solar development in 2016. New York, Texas and Hawaii added more than 100 MW of Solar capacity. In the regions of Southeast, Georgia and Tennessee observed increase in utility-scale Solar, at the same time Louisiana and South Carolina achieved continuous growth in the residential Solar sector. From 2016, it has been observed that Residential PV continues to be the rapidly growing market segment in the U.S. Solar sector, managing three continuous years a successive annual growth.

Connecting Dark Data with IoT -By Adrian Hinrichsen, Marketing & Business Development Director of Datumize
T
he above infographic is astonishing when you really delve into the numbers. The last few years have been quite interesting when it comes to the IoT space. I have personally taken a back seat and watched how the industry has sprouted, from an embryonic platform to an early catalyst for possibly becoming the next “Skynet” (no pun intended). For some time now pundits have been predicting great things for the Internet of Things (IoT), from smart cities and smart homes to smart energy grids, driverless cars and autonomous robots. What is in no doubt are the number of “things” that now have “connected capability”, and it is rising fast; according to one leading analyst, 6.4 billion connected things will be in use by the end of this year, an increase of 30% from last year, meaning 5 million new things are being connected up to the internet every single day. The term internet of things (IoT) was coined round about the turn of the millennium and is widely held to mean the connection of “things”. There are a number of factors driving IoT. First, consumers are demanding greater convenience, speed of delivery and personalisation of the goods and services they consume. There are also other drivers for the IoT explosion we are witnessing. The costs of infrastructure are on a downward trajectory. Sensors are becoming smaller, cheaper and more energy efficient and battery life is improving. The further innovation of cloud computing platforms and the emergence of specialised IoT services on them mean that
26
the data collection and analysis necessary for wide scale deployment are more accessible. Here you can see one infographic from Deloitte in 2014 that shows the value they analysed for smart homes and smart cars. Interestingly enough these percentages have not differed too much till now. Is IoT Fact or Future? IoT is right at the top of the “hype” cycle and firmly perched to what everyone is talking about. Mckinsey & Co predict that the economic impact of the IoT could be between $3.9tn and $11.1tn per year by 2025. That is a huge industry considering it was only born 16 years ago. One of the main question I get asked a lot is “where do you see IoT making the most advantage”? Currently the top industries are domestic/leisure, utilities/energy and transport/automotive. At Datumize we are seeing traction in all these sectors with each project very much different to the next. Our everyday environment is changing, sometimes without us even noticing, however, our lives are being made easier for it. Although we are moving quickly to an IoT environment, we are also facing “Barriers to connection”, where businesses and consumers do not share the same vision of IoT. One suspicion is the concern for security and how IoT technology could be hijacked and manipulated by those for

ill intent. Other factors are more technical in nature, and seem to be around operating systems, pricing and current offerings. All of these factors will have to be overcome if we are to achieve the holy grail of “smart Cities” and connection of things. In Conclusion IoT is a concept which is no longer discussed only by technical scientists, it has very much moved into the mainstream. Certain industries have embraced IoT more than others, for example domestic/leisure, utilities and transport are leading the way. We are all consumers and citizens, and a great deal of education needs to occur before the reality of IoT is understood and accepted by us at large. Data is the key to IoT and organisations seems to want to get their hands on that “Dark data”, but do not know what to do with it once they have it, or how to turn it into a value for their business. It is here that obstacles occur in our everyday business environment as the resources needed have currently not been implemented into the infrastructure and this will not happen until businesses understand the value that is passing them by on a daily basis within their organisation. IoT is potentially the most exciting technical revolution to have happened in a long time, and if we are able to help businesses and consumers connect in a smarter way, help build the resources and infrastructure to support this new environment, then the way we live and work will change forever, in a very positive way.

nder the Environmental Responsibility of the Corporates, it is expected to operate in a manner that protects the environment. Going beyond business activities and taking care of the environment can bring business benefits. Now corporate companies have realized that business activity in an environmentally responsible way is not only a legal duty but also a responsibility. Over the past few years, stakeholders increasingly require corporate organizations to become more environmentally aware and responsible. CSR activities of corporate organizations affect their bottom line and the long-term success of their business. The environmental aspect of Corporate Social Responsibility had been debated over the past few decades and it's a hot matter of any business house. Earlier in the traditional business model, environmental protection has been considered only in relation to the “public interest”, but now it's a part of business. Governments of all over the world have maintained the principle of environmental responsibility for ensuring environmental conservation and management as well. Business Organizations Should Consider these Environmental Points Business organizations should store waste safely and securely, make sure it is treated appropriately and also be ensured that it is collected by an authorized body such as your local authority or a licensed waste

You can also manage waste for recycling by separating paper, plastic, metals and glass and for those organizations that are in the food businesses they need to separate food waste for recycling. Be sure that your business activities do not cause a statutory nuisance like producing smoke, noise, gases, odor, fumes, accumulating rubbish or light pollution which could aect someone's health. If your business activities pose an imminent threat to the environment, then notify the relevant enforcing body to take steps to prevent the damage and if your activities also cause actual environmental damage then you must take a remedial action to repair the damage. Before directing euent detergent and waste chemicals into sewage, you should get permission from relevant body.
Take care of Hazardous substances before throw-outs The business organization needs to think about the risks posed by chemicals or hazardous substances to the environment. Hazardous substances include oil, chemicals, pesticides, ozone-depleting substances, radioactive materials, electrical or electronic equipment solvents and biocides. You must ensure that your organization is aware about the environmental risks for every hazardous substance which you store, use, produce or dispose of at work. Hazardous Substances such as lead, mercury and calcium. Manufacturers are prevented from placing products on the market with more than a certain amount of hazardous substances. If you work with equipment containing ODS or uorinated gases then there are requirements that you must ensure prevention and repair of leaks, checking for leakages and record keeping recovery for the purpose of recycling. Store of Wastage and Recycling Business organizations must ensure that any waste they produce as a result of their business operations is stored safely and securely, treated appropriately and collected for disposal or recycling by an authorized body to do so. The regulations of waste management require all businesses to separate the following forms of commercial waste for recycling plastic, paper, metals, and glass. Conservation and Biodiversity to be protected by the business organizations Biodiversity refers to all species of animals and plants. The increasing human activities cause the loss of biodiversity in the world. All types of business organizations operating near these types of area should be aware, and take responsibilities for conservation and protecting biodiversity. This not only applies to land-based industries such as farming and forestry but also to all factories, industries, oďŹƒces and other business activities based on or near biodiversity areas. Protected areas like UNESCO biospheres include local nature reserves, areas of natural beauty that needs conservation, the heritage of wildlife habitats and national parks of the country.

This is not only beneficial for the employee’s career growth but would also ensure that the company’s services are on the right hands.
Engagement, communication, creativity and innovation, project management and culture connect is the vision of any startup. It is also necessary to make sure the right people are getting involved at the right places. All employees should have the opportunity to contribute to the shared purpose and also enough resources and suitable environmental conditions should be provided to encourage employee growth. To establish a small startup, it needs to work on the changing ideas, concepts and procedures regularly to adapt to inevitable and unexpected problems.
Proper training helps to develop the talents of their staffs and also easily harness the future of the market. This helps to expose the employee to various experts in the field with different perspectives and opinions with regards to employee engagement and also better understand the company’s needs and objectives.
The Big Idea A splendid idea is the secret ingredient for any innovative organization. A big idea gives an organization the high ground in the marketplace. It stands out like a beacon, attracting new customers and employees too, often without the need for expensive advertisement. A useful and unique idea can make a huge difference in the profit of the business. It can easily attract right kinds of funding in easier and cheaper ways. Collaboration brings out new ideas of other organizations Today, the biggest breakthroughs happen when people with a collective vision join together and share ideas, information, and work. Most top CEOs don’t do all the work themselves. Their success as an individual has now put them in a position where they are able to hire others who can work together to accomplish a single goal. Collaboration is the key element for businesses embarking on the “good to great” journey. This entails more than just people working together; but the entire process comes under one shelter. Creative collaboration encourages new idea and services of other expertise to join forces with the existing brand and set the foundation for innovation and success. This also includes learning to coach and the potential to inspire and motivate to form a strong team or foundation. Change is the daily attire of any Business As societies continue to evolve and changing demand creates the need for new products and services, businesses often are forced to make changes to stay competitive. The businesses that continue to survive and even thrive are usually the ones that most readily adapt to change. The

economy market trending with new ideas and technology forces a business to reevaluate its methods of operation. Factors like the entrance of a new competitor into a market, innovations in technology, desire to growth, need to improve processes and government regulation can cause a business to change its planning and strategy. Constant change is essential—as it’s the only way to adapt quickly with the market change.
Anybody who has ever watched interviews with managers or coaches of professional sports teams will have heard plenty of discussion of the need for leaders throughout the team. A leader should encourage teamwork and inspire others to perform. Companies demand from the leaders global fluency and flexibility, building the ability to innovate and acquire new levels of understanding of rapidly changing technologies and new disciplines and fields.
A leader can only lead to a successful organization An organization is never known without its founder. He is the thinker behind the thought. Leadership has to start at the top but it isn’t great unless it spreads throughout the organization. The most successful companies recognize effective leaders and harness them to maximize results.
A team leader should aim to build a star team and not a team of stars. An entrepreneur as a leader can drive the whole organization together to change the vision into a reality. The support and guidance to their employees can bring out new innovations and help them to achieve it.

WEATHERIZATION PROGRAM - NEED, INSIGHT, AND IMPLEMENTATION 40

Weather Watch
F
or energy saving, a Weatherization program is quite common to be implemented by the Utility companies in the western part of the world. The program is mainly run for the lowearning families. This article emphasizes on IWORKETCH’s experience on building a platform for the US-based company. What is weatherization? As per Wiki, Weatherization (American English) or weatherproofing (British English) is the practice of protecting a building and its interior from the elements, particularly from sunlight, precipitation, and wind, and of modifying a building to reduce energy consumption and optimize energy efficiency.
Why is weatherization needed? One thinks that if my house is well insulated then I am good as far as the heat protection of the home is a concern. It is true that various types of insulation can block drafts of the cold winds and protect the home. It gives protection from the “Conductive” heat flow. We still need weatherization to protect. It primarily reduces “Convective” heat flow.
Insights into Weatherization procedure Typically following steps are taken: Step1: In the Weatherization process home’s audit is done. The auditor keeps focus on to check:
The normal flow mentioned above might need to adjust to handle cases where low-earning families are not meeting income, age, earnings, etc criteria.
• Areas like windows, pipes, wiring that penetrate ceiling and floor, doors, sealing cracks, etc., for highpotential heat loss. • Light fixtures near attic space • heat loss due to air-duct • dampers of the exhaust fans • pipe condition • wall, floor, and ceilings condition • door and window sealings • and more
Implementation of the Weatherization Program While implementing the solution, we considered a list of actors. These are: • Administrator • Customer • Auditor • Inspector • Contractor
An auditor then proposes the changes which can make home more energy efficient. Step2: Utility companies call for a bid to implement changes from its qualified contractor network. Step3: A selected contractor implements changes in the home. Step4: Utility company asks its inspector to validate the changes incorporated in the home. Step5: Once the inspector approves the

changes then the Utility company pays to the contractor.
These actors are using the web-based portal and mobile application. The web-based application is developed on the Windows platform. The mobile application is developed using Xamarin. The web-based portal works under the contemporary browsers. The mobile application works on iOS and Android. Summary The solution is designed and developed mainly for the US residential market. However, the author believes the similar need does exist in all markets including India.

HVAC Systems: How to Utilize it Efficiently and Get the Most Out of it
W
e know that HVAC systems are widely used in organizations and data centers. They control the surrounding environment (like temperature, humidity, air filtering, etc), and contribute to maintaining the comfort and safety of the building occupants. Everyone wants to get the most efficient HVAC system, but they have to make sure that proper energy-saving protocols are followed while doing so. They have to answer a few questions to ensure efficient HVAC utilization like: If the HVAC system operates as efficiently as it could? Is it compliant with health safety and environmental regulations? Are they facing continuous maintenance issues related to HVAC system? Is the HVAC system in good shape, or is it costing them? Assessing any facility first includes checking out the HVAC. Organizations have to determine how much time is left in the system’s lifecycle. An extremely old HVAC system could be consuming excess energy and wasting money. It could also lead to indoor quality issues and other building maintenance-related problems. Organizations should ensure that the system is working for them and not against them. Making sure that the Organization has the Right Fit If an organization is new to the complex world of heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC), it should know how vital it is that the system is matched to the organizational needs, as this is the only way to get both fully effective and efficient heating and air conditioning. To know about the best-suited HVAC system, calling on an HVAC professional is the only way forward. They will provide better information on whether one will require a central or local system, the size and best placement, as well 42
as estimated pricing. Scheduling Annual Servicing For the most efficient air conditioning and heating system, organizations should make sure to get an annual inspection and service. Winter is usually the best time for HVAC maintenance, to make certain that the heating system will survive to coldest months, but any time is beneficial, and can help prevent expensive, inopportune breakdowns in the future. Regular Upgradation of HVAC Systems Regular upgradation and maintenance is a key towards efficient working of HVAC systems. Organizations have to realize that if they have to call in the HVAC maintenance team more regularly than once a year, then it may be time to upgrade the current system. Moreover, old HVAC systems consume more energy than usually required and therefore add a hefty cost to the monthly utility bills. Not only this, but the air quality may also be on the wrong side of healthy. If one is thinking about upgrading to a new high-tech HVAC system, it is highly likely that it could save them between 30 and 40 percent on energy costs. Keeping up with Environmental Regulations The prime responsibility of every organization is ensuring the health and safety of its employees. Health, safety and environmental regulations are set by the government for a reason so that organizations and individuals are wise enough to stick to them, or risk putting the employees in danger and unknowingly harming the environment. | February 2018 |
Tech Talk
An organization can book a professional for HVAC maintenance if it is not sure of whether the HVAC system is up to code. Proper HVAC maintenance can help ensure safety as well as the system’s overall efficiency. Ensuring the Organization has Good Controls
Considering the air quality
If you don’t have the controls you need on your HVAC system, you’re probably not getting the most efficient air conditioning and heating. Good controls allow you to heat and cool parts of your home only when you need it, making sure you’re not using unnecessary energy in parts of the home you don’t need heated or cooled, straining your system’s capacity and hemorrhaging money!
There are more important things to be kept in mind for efficient air conditioning and heating than what meets the eye, and providing consistent air quality is one of those hidden assets. To improve the air quality, replacing the entire HVAC system is not a necessity; instead, if organizations consider opting for additional ventilation solutions, it can turn out to be very helpful.
Monthly Replacement of Filters
An HVAC system can be properly installed in any organization and its successful implementation can be ensured by following the above given strategies. Proper maintenance and regular checkups can help in extending the lifeline of HVAC systems and can save costs on heating and cooling expenses.
In addition to yearly maintenance, organizations should take it upon themselves and make sure that the system’s filters are changed every month, as these can get clogged and prevent efficient air conditioning and heating. Keeping an annual supply of filters can save time, energy and resources, and changing them regularly, would lead to a hassle-free HVAC experience.
