Disruption: Reshaping the Disciplines of an Established System
E
very once in a while, a new technology, an old problem, and a big idea, turn into an innovation.” This statement by an American engineer, inventor, and businessman, Dean Kamen, aptly describes the phenomenon of Disruption. Rather than interruption, disruption is more of a creation. It opens the door to new opportunities and markets.
There’s no doubt that how existing systems are evolving and maintaining the stability but the current corporate world is constantly experiencing uncontainable rapid changes. Thus, it has become prerequisite for the businesses to leverage those changes and create advanced business models that can add a greater value to their customers. Various businesses have entered the particular markets with the minimal resources and have reshaped the established system. We have seen the brands like Netflix creating a market where no one existed before, as they produced something new, essential and worthwhile and transformed the customer experiences, the way we think, do business, connect, learn, and innovate. As technologies are continuing to evolve, the disruption cycle is speeding up. With a vivid vision, passion, and tenacity, businesses are setting new milestones within the established system. Similarly, there are numerous disruptive private companies which are profoundly impacting all the aspects of the business world. By being disruptive, they are providing a new perspective to the market trends by adopting novel approaches. Corent Technology: Democratizing SaaS
We offer a platform to rapidly Analyze, Cloudify, and if desired SaaSify software applications, on any Cloud and without any programing.
Cover Story
Feyzi Fatehi CEO
Corent Technology's SurPaaS® platform is emerging as a disruptive force in the cloud migration and SaaS-enablement technology space initiating significant power shift with economic impact.
L
ike other innovative evolving technologies such as AI, machine learning, big data, and blockchain, cloud transformation is another most highly prioritized and foundational initiative for organizations. It may seem like businesses move to the cloud in a single, sweeping motion, but the reality of cloud migration is far more complex. It is getting complicated for software vendors to find a collection of compatible tools to rapidly plan their cloud migration strategy, shift their software workloads to cloud, and thereafter continue to manage operations of multiple software products effectively. Even after completing the migration, there’s no clear and easy path towards the next step of enabling software to be delivered as scalable, efficient SaaS. Corent Technology’s SurPaaS® platform and their “Software Defined
SaaS®” technology has started to bridge this gap. A Powerful Vision: A unified platform to Analyze, Cloudify, SaaSify! With the advent of Cloud technology, the concept of applications ‘as a service’ became a reality. All that was needed was a launchpad to onboard the thousands of existing applications to the Cloud and rapidly deliver them ‘as a service’, leveraging the cloud technology. With innovation in multiple areas of Cloud operations and Software delivery as a Service, Corent launched SurPaaS® as a unifying platform to automatically scan and analyze applications, enable cloud migration and deliver them as a scalable and efficient service (i.e. SaaS,) to save millions of dollars in costs and years of programing and development.
A Disruptive Innovator: Automating the Entire Cloud Migration Journey Corent Technology is engaging in disruptive innovation in the cloud migration and SaaS-enablement technology space. Its SurPaaS® platform that is used by key enterprises, system integrators and cloud providers, enables the end-to-end automated cloud migration journey including discovery, analysis, planning, and migration to the cloud and optionally, optimization and transformation of software applications to SaaS. SurPaaS® uniquely enables organizations to make their journey to the cloud with speed, efficiency and optimization. A Passion for Democratizing SaaS Corent was inspired by the bold vision to become the “Intel Inside” for the SaaS industry by providing the core capabilities of “as a Service”
Cover Story
From left to right: Scott Chate – VP Partner & Market Development, Feyzi Fatehi – CEO, Jeremy Neal – UK Country Manager, Sean Jazayeri – Senior Executive - Strategic Alliances & Initiatives, Shafi Syed – Co-founder & CTO, Frits Veltink – VP EMEA separately from the application, becoming the common robust trusted ‘as a Service’ solution for SaaS. In other words, rapidly enable software applications as efficient, scalable SaaS, with all the tenancy, operations and commercial management capabilities needed to transform software vendors into “SaaS Providers,” without the usual costly and time-consuming re-engineering investment. This ability is disrupting the economics, business model, availability and access to SaaS – simply put, democratizing SaaS. Disrupting the SaaS industry: Enabling SaaS 2.0 Until Corent’s SurPaaS® introduction, the common belief was that in order to have a SaaS offering, software vendors have to re-architect their software to incorporate the unique demands of an “as a Service” offering as opposed to an onprem licensed software application. Corent’s SurPaaS® /
“Software Defined SaaS®” platform has started to bridge this gap, by rapidly enabling enterprise software applications to get “configured” as fully instrumented SaaS rapidly and cost effectively on most popular Clouds such as Microsoft Azure/Azure Stack, AWS, and OCI (Oracle Cloud Infrastructure,) and technology stack platforms. This way, Software Developers, will put 100% of their time, energy and effort on developing their core product with the best competing features/capabilities, as opposed to focusing on the “as a Service” delivery of their software, 2) gain immediate time to market advantage, 3) avoid capital costs and on-going maintenance costs associated with developing
their own “as a Service” capabilities, and last but not least, the avoid the typical risks associated with developing something that is outside of their own core competency, as opposed to using a proven platform. Project Open Box: Enabling Open Source 2.0 Imagine any of the over 1000 proven enterprise Open Source applications readily available as SaaS? These are applications that are developed and are constantly being contributed to and maintained by tens of thousands of tops developers in the world including developers from Microsoft, Google, IBM, Oracle, Amazon, SAP, Cisco and the like. “The reason most Open Source applications are not available as efficient, scalable, SaaS validates the fact that it is not trivial to transform a sophisticated enterprise grade software into a fully-instrumented SaaS quickly
and cost effectively.” Said Feyzi Fatehi, Corent Tech CEO. “Corent offers the rapid and robust SaaSification of Software applications and cleanly decouples the tasks of development, from the task of service delivery by allowing MSPs (Managed Service Providers) to operating, manage and deliver open source applications as SaaS offerings powered by Corent’s SurPaaS Platform.” Enabled by SurPaaS, MSPs to deliver Applications as Fullyinstrumented SaaS SurPaaS is giving the ISVs (Independent Software Vendors) a chance to offer their software applications as fully instrumented, scalable SaaS without the burden of years of R&D to custom develop their “as a Service” capabilities. Corent’s breakthrough technology invention allows MSPs to expand their service offerings to include managing and operating SaaS applications, and off
load the burden of the 24X7 IT operations of a SaaS solution from ISVs. By using SurPaaS SaaS-Ops capabilities, MSPs in effect become SaaS Providers, and can operate, deliver and manage one or more sophisticated enterprise grade software applications as fully instrumented SaaS. In effect, this new SaaS delivery model allows the ISVs to put 100% of their focus, energy and effort on the application development and use the MSPs as a channel for operations, delivery, and even support of the SaaS solutions. Staying Ahead of the Curve Corent has experienced the rapid and intertwined evolution of the SaaS and Cloud industries Reinforcing each other, they together have democratized the playing field for advanced applications and infrastructure capabilities. This rapid addition of capabilities has influenced the adaptive transformation and evolution

approach, the company designed into its SurPaaS® Platform. It has clearly seen the need of migration as a cloud journey instead of a single event. This need arises due to continuous presence of new technologies or capabilities that customers would like to be in a position to incorporate in and evolve towards as opposed to being rigid and becoming obsolete and irrelevant. Supporting the Entire Cloud Journey Life-cycle Corent’s focus on the customer’s cloud journey, is not only at the time of a first cloud migration, but also as a continuous process of scanning, analyzing, optimizing and managing, including continuous optimization due to changes in the usage patterns or IT the environment. The company believes that this involvement with its customer is the key to being customer centric. The technology of the cloud is constantly evolving, and the way that application workloads are deployed to take advantage of it will need to evolve as business needs and priorities change. SurPaaS® Continuum™ is
designed to provide the ability to help evolve the customers’ application portfolio operations and deployment and how it is optimally leveraging the cloud as an integral part of the business and technology evolution. Corent’s approach to the customers’ cloud journey enables simple lift & shift, as well as sophisticated Smart Shift™ and PaaS Shift™ capabilities for re-topologizing and converting to PaaS services and components of applications as they are migrated. This can result in large gains in efficiency, scalability, resiliency and performance. When it SaaSifies an application into a scalable Multi-Tenant version that can run on the cloud, the cost of service delivery for the SaaS Provider can be reduced significantly. This focus on optimizing the results of the customer’s cloud journey is the true efficiency that SurPaaS® provides. Stellar Management and Advisory Board Corent has assembled a stellar management team of seasoned and
enthusiastic Silicon Valley veterans from Microsoft, IBM, HPE, EMC, Oracle, WMware, and Accenture among others. Some of the recent additions to their advisory board includes Jim DuBois, recent CIO at Microsoft, Mazda Marvasti, former CTO at VMware, Randy Seidl, former SVP/GM of US Enterprise Group at HP, and Carrie Francey, former VP of Strategic Alliances at HPE. People, Product, and Partnerships Besides attracting great team members and its relentless focus on product excellence, Corent has been a partnership centric company. In that sense, Corent sees its role as a technology provider, enabling Systems Integrators (SIs), Managed Service Providers (MSPs) and other IT consulting firms with a platform on which to base their ongoing Cloud Journey with their customers and further enable them to take advantage of the disruptive opportunities that the twin revolutions of cloud and SaaS are providing.

he way people make payments are changing faster due to the improved integration of digital technology. This has beneďŹ ted the industry with increased competition and consumer demands.
The changes can be witnessed in Travel, E-commerce, Household Bill payments etc. The recent integration of technology in payment solutions makes transactions fast and seamless and can be done at the comfort of your homes. Although we are witnessing a considerable change in the payment solution industry, there is still a consistent use of the cash and cards, which solely depends on the geographical setting. In some places, people prefer cash and cards, while in other places, they encourage the more use of digital solutions; for example: The United States and Canada. Analysis has shown that
18

in these areas, they are likely to switch completely to technology enabled payment solutions. The payment solution processes will become more innovative because of the following disruptive trends;
the result will lead to easy merging of both the traditional medium of resource management concepts with the recent and digitalized concepts. Various financial organizations that may not be able to handle the process of migrating from the traditional format to the digitalized platform finds ease in doing so by partnering with technology companies.
· Digital Banking and Remote Payment Approval As the younger aged masses are turning up to technology more than the traditional mediums, there is a notion that most payment solutions will be done through digitalenabled mediums rather than cash or cheque. This will result in more engagement of mobile phones and digital software applications. Various business outlets are accepting more of mobile payment which is helping them to improve customer experience. The addition of instant alerts, appreciation notifications and instant payment delivery is making this innovation more interesting. · Customer-Focused Strategy as a Priority One retained customer is one attained success. ~ Chidiebere Moses Ogbodo Customer experience post business encounter is what makes a difference in the industry. Digital banking solutions are improving the way customers feel after making their payments. In the past years, one need to stand in a queue in the bank before they can make even the smallest transaction, but the integration of technology innovation has reduced the stress to the lowest level. We can witness improved services and instant expense management which is helping everyone that is using this medium to stay above the crowd · Improved Customer Satisfaction through Rewards A customer tends to check back on the sales-person who gave them a tip or discount after purchase. This is also applicable in payment solution. After people makes a purchase online or even via cards and the seller offers them a certain percentage of discount, they will always want to come back. The good news is that most business enterprises are supporting this idea in collaboration with the finance institutions. · FinTech Collaboration and Expansion of Networks The innovation in payment solution is incorporating feasibility of resource management between the financial and non-financial organizations. Through this development, October 2018
Organizational growth is measured both in market value, infrastructure and the extent of their networks. The integration of digital technology advances in payment provisions helps especially the finance-oriented establishments to easily expand their reach, even to the most hidden places in the world. This helps to touch the lives of people no matter the class and status and it repays with tremendous customer growth. · Improved Security and Payment by Codes Security is huge concern when money is involved. People are so conscious and very inquisitive about how their money will travel from the sender to the receiver. In so many cases, they will even think that such platforms as digitalized mediums are not trustworthy as a single wrong number can direct their money to unknown destination. The transaction as of the old was true cheques. But today, there will be a limited need for those methods, rather, payment will simply be done by inputting a certain username and password and your dashboard will be opened. Through this page, you can easily make every payment. The age of digitalization is turning the whole process into codebased and this raises the question of how to stay safe. It is also believed that for security purposes, the instant notification of transaction, linking of secured email and encryption to individual data and disaster-recovery provisions will lead the innovation to better direction. This concern has a big deal with blockchain, augmented reality, IoT and biometrics. You may be asking how the future will look like with techenabled payment solutions. As the world is growing and globalization is gaining a good ground, people blends in to what they see that is working well. So, as digital payment solution is making even the life of the lay man on street easy, more people in the near future will completely adopt this innovation. It will not harm the financial institutions, but it will be great if they can migrate or better integrate some form of technology strategies in their financial solutions. This change may be slow, but it will be consistent as the technology changes are not giving room for procrastination.

Aspiricx: Advancing the Disciplines of Sports Science with AI
T
he past few years have been landmark years for advancements in Artificial Intelligence (AI). Businesses have leveragedAI to develop and advance multiple fields and industries. Similarly, an AI company, Aspiricx, Inc. is redefining the disciplines of sports science with its path-breaking scientific advancement. Aspiricx is on a mission to push the boundaries of Artificial Intelligence and Computer Vision to develop its real-world scientific model, Aspire Analyticx. Aspire Analyticx is a full dimensional scientific model developed with the concept of modeling human potential using AI. Decades of AI and deep learning research will be leveraged through this model to explore the fullest potential of athletes and will aspire them to break their boundaries by competing against their potential self. Inception of the Scientific Model Sports analytics have always been comparing one athlete’s performance against fellow competing athletes, be it individual sport or team sport. Aspiricx realized an athlete needs to surpass his or her own true potential to make a significant difference. This realization originated the idea of building its model, Aspire Analytics, enabling athletes achieve their true potential thereby aspiring them to do more. This model was conceptualized to model 3D objects and analyzes the athlete’s performance against its ideal self. Aspiricx aspires to provide real-time

analytics for athletes by leveraging video and 3D imaging technologies without invasive sensors. Computer vision and AI image processing, neural networks, genetic algorithms, and machine learning are used to process the visual data and to develop its model, Aspire Analyticx. At the core of the Aspire Analytics ecosystem is its real-time deep learning AI engine, Vision Bot. Vision Bot grew much bigger than what it was conceived to be and turned out to be giant project on its own. Over a short span of time, it outgrew its purpose multifold finding application in Aspiricx’s Automotive and healthcare and bionics projects. Owing to its generic implementation as an AI deeplearning engine, the company envisages great deal of use for Vision Bot in every field of science and technology and more. It believes that after the WWW and mobile revolution at the turn of the millennium, AI will be the next great technology revolution and Vision Bot will be one of the mainstream catalysts. Enhancing the Sport of Swimming A team of world class visionaries, technologists, swimmers, analysts and coaches have transformed Aspiricx’s ground breaking Aspire Analyticx, full dimensional model to two product lines, “LaneVision” and “StokeVision” to enhance the sport of swimming LaneVision is conceptualized to solve the statistical mysteries of the pool swimming’s laps, splits, stroke count, velocity and much more by using widely beneficial scientific advances
ever made in Augmented Reality (AR) and Computer Vision to get data without any invasive sensors. LaneVision with non-invasive sensors lets Aspiricx achieve the never achieved objective of using it in a competitive race environment to get the results that really count. With science backed analytics, Aspiricx achieves the never achieved feet of doing this in real-time to redefine the Sport. A Visionary behind Technology The technology behind Aspiricx is the brainchild of Kannan Dorairaj, the CEO and Chief Architect, a successful entrepreneur with experience in AI, IoT, data and the solar industry. Kannan has always laid out the foundational cornerstones for Aspiricx. He drives vision, strategy, & innovation at Aspiricx. He envisioned the whole business model, product visions and the technology forefront. Although an entrepreneur, Kannan has always been an engineer at heart. He makes sure he is at the heart of every single technology decision and details, be it setting up the core architecture or review that last line of code. He has truly driven the technology side of the company with great knowledge and enthusiasm. He has been an inspiration for all those who are involved in developing this cutting technology product. To compliment his vision and technology he put together a great team with Priya Rangaswamy, an expert in business process as co-founder and COO. A right set of world class team joined together to make the vision come true for Aspiricx including, “12 times Olympic Medal Winner, Natalie Coughlin”, “USA National Junior Team Coach, Ethan Hall” along with a set of analysts, skilled engineers and architects under the guidance of advisory board members including “USA National Team High Performance Manager, Russell Mark”. A Complex Start Certainly, no start is easy, or a cakewalk. Similarly, for Aspiricx, there have been several obstacles over the course of setting up its core aspire

The company had initial struggle in working with latest advancements such as computer vision and machine learning that are tough to perfect and more over time consuming tasks. In addition to these, laying out key performance metrics and collecting immense amount of dataset for continual training had also been challenging for Aspiricx. The primary challenge was setting up the computer vision to work through the water. Kannan’s prior work in the solar industry and untiring efforts in deep research helped him understand light rays. His solution for the problem posed by water is now Aspiricx’s core Intellectual Property. Introducing New Sources of Growth Aspiricx’s vision has the potential to introduce new sources of growth and will create significant business opportunities and societal value. In building its swim analytics product, the company realized how hard and time
consuming it is to set up computer vision and machine learning infrastructure. Hence, it is en route to build a state-of-the-art integrated vision platform. It is in process to build a seamlessly integrated, flexible and managed full stack computer vision enabler platform for the world of vision driven applications. It will be single integrated platform that will offer ready-toimplement APIs that converge with latest advancements in computer vision and the expertise needed to train and build custom models that can be used to develop custom applications effectively. Words of Admiration “You want to aspire to be better, and that’s the kind of whole vision of the company Aspiricx, is to help you aspire to be better than you are today.”Natalie Coughlin, Olympic Champion

Imagine that, we are driving on highway and our car’s battery drains. Now, instead of finding a fuel pump, electric power source, adapter, cable, etc. we just have to stop or park our car on wireless charging platform for short time, available at any shopping complex or food malls, again no need to come-out of the car, besides anyone’s assistance. This is really an amazing idea and this is going to true. History Electromagnetic Induction, which dates to inventors such as Michael Faraday in the year 1831 and Joseph Henry in the year 1832. Faraday was the first to publish the results of his experiments. Nikola Tesla utilized electromagnetic energy to transmit the power between two coils in the early 1900s. Faraday’s law of induction is a basic law of electromagnetism forecasting how a magnetic field will interact with an electric circuit and produces an electromotive force (EMF)—a phenomenon called electromagnetic induction. It is the fundamental working principle of transformers, inductors, and many types of electrical motors, generators, solenoids and wireless charging. Functioning Working of wireless charging is nearly same as ‘electric transformer’, but difference is in application only—Transformers are used to increase or decrease the alternating voltages in electric power applications through electromagnetic induction and Wireless Charger are used to transfer energy between two objects using electromagnetic field.
Electric vehicle (EV) with wireless charging is having secondary coil fitted at bottom of vehicle and primary coil is securely installed on ground (i.e. charging platform). The basic wireless charging system needs two coils. The primary coil, encased in a pad that sits on the floor of a garage or parking platform, is connected to a power source. Alternating current flows from an outlet into the coil, set up an electromagnetic field that enables the power to jump to a secondary coil in a pad attached to the bottom of the vehicle. When the vehicle parks in the proper position over the primary coil pad, an indicator light goes on and charging begins. The two coils must be facing within about 8 inches of each other for effective charging. Pre-eminence over Cable Charging Wireless Charging gives a convenient, safe, and reliable way to charge and power electrical vehicles at home, in the workplace and in industry. Wireless power maintains safe, continuous, and reliable transfer of power for all types of electric vehicles. Wireless charging eliminates the use of physical connectors and cables. It provides a number of efficiency, cost and safety pre-eminence over the traditional charging cable. This make possible to install it anywhere like; on the side of highways, parking lots, malls, multiplexes, toll plazas, etc. Experts predict more powerful wireless stations will be like to appear at office buildings, shopping centers and restaurants. When anyone parks vehicle at office or at restaurant it will get charged automatically in that space of time. Due to this effortless frequent power availability and safety, a vehicle does not need large batteries unlike for conventional cable charging. It makes vehicle light and compact, that tends to increase overall efficiency of vehicle.

Plug-in stations can be easily damaged in crowded metro cities. A number of municipalities have reported problems that thieves have cut EV charging cables to steal the copper from the wires. High-powered Level 3 stations, also called DC fast-charge, have large cables, which make them even more attractive to thieves. “Imagine wireless electric-vehicle charging being as easy and widespread as Wi-Fi is today,” said Chris Borroni-Bird, former director of advanced technology vehicle concepts for General Motors and who is a vice president of strategic development at Qualcomm Technologies. Implementation is in Progress Wireless charging technology is almost ready for the big stage. It is on the verge of initial deployment, starting from the Mercedes-Benz S500e plug-in hybrid sedan next year. They plan to fit wireless charging on the S500e plug-in hybrid sedan in 2017. BMW is also working together with Mercedes-Benz on the technology, to develop a wireless charging system for its i3 electric vehicle and i8 plug-in hybrid. A prototype test version, made by Qualcomm technologies, is already in use in the BMW i8 safety car in the Formula E electric-vehicle October 2018
race series. Qualcomm has exhibited its Halo system in various vehicles, including the Drayson B12/69 electric racing car. Evatran’s Plugless aftermarket system is now commercially available for the LEAF and the Volt, and a Model Scompatible version is likely to come. Several major automakers have indicated that they’re working on offering wireless charging for future EVs. Tesla is also on the way of introducing its EV’s with wireless charging. It is also already being piloted by some community bus systems. Buses need to take number of stoppage in city. A wireless charger can be installed on a stopping platform— tends to reduce size of batteries— will improve efficiency electric bus. Wireless charging technology is really amazing as invention of electric current. It is interesting to see how it will put back the conventional fossil fuel powered vehicle with clean, green, safe, silent and efficient electric vehicles with wireless charging for healthy future of planet Earth.

Enervalis: Stefan Lodeweyckx
Enabling a Green Energy Space
Founder & CEO
T
he field of green energy holds some of the most exciting opportunities any entrepreneur could wish for. Several of the world’s largest companies are currently exploring its almost limitless possibilities. Joining them are a number of innovative startups also pushing the boundaries of what Man can achieve with altruistic motivations. The ideal example of this philosophy is Enervalis.
We believe the world is evolving to 100% green energy production.
Walking the Walk Enervalis was founded by Stefan Lodeweyckx, the CEO in 2013. Stefan is an accomplished digital electronics engineer who has always had a passion for green technology and environmentalism. Unlike the typical C-suite executive, he doesn’t live in a palatial complex of glass-and-steel. Instead, his family of six resides in an old house they are renovating and are evolving to a completely fossil fuels free consumption pattern. Stefan himself is an avid gardener and as much as time allows, he grows together with his wife much of the fresh food they consume.
36
“Years ago, I began to wonder what I would say when my children were grown and asked me what I had done for society,” he reveals, “I realized that, at that time, the answer would be ‘Nothing’.” Stefan was already a renowned digital engineer who had spent almost two decades leading large teams at major corporations like Sony and Philips. Not content to excel in just a single field, he also earned an MBA to complement his technical knowledge with business insight.

His journey includes experience with smaller companies and startups, as well. However, it was a program at Sony that sowed the seed for environmental consciousness in energy.
benefit. Enervalis has created a simple operating system with the ability to convert the latent flexibility into real world results.
“One of the very revolutionary, very forward-thinking concepts that we explored was the use of PlayStations as an energy service. With more than 100 million consoles out there, there is amazing potential to diversify what an entertainment unit can deliver.”
The raw appeal of green energy lies in its feel-good factor. Everyone would rather invest in, and be a part of, a project that delivers environmental benefits as well as financial rewards. Enervalis taps into that innate altruism by giving every user complete control over how they fit into the energy production and consumption network.
While that concept did not materialize at Sony, it gave Stefan an idea that would evolve into Enervalis. Thinking Green As he considered the range of services a company like Enervalis could provide, Stefan delved into trends emerging in the green energy sector. “I realized that there is inherently a lot of volatility in a green energy society,” he says, “Green energy sources like wind and solar are beyond our control. On the other hand, electrification is booming and thermal processes like indoor heating are driving that change.” Stefan recognized that there was a fundamental mismatch between the demand for energy and the inconsistency of the green energy supply. Not only was this factor thwarting organic industry growth, but it was also discouraging widespread adoption. “We identified the singular need for efficiency. Taking it a step further, we understood that there was real value in the ability to predict supply and demand. At the heart of what Enervalis does is our process that quickly and accurately calculates demand and adjusts supply accordingly.” That is a winning business model because both the user and the supplier

Personalized Energy Intelligence
“Energy grids are moving steadily away from huge regional, national, and continent-wide networks that dominate today. The future lies in interconnected, intelligent microgrids. Certain elements of the sturdy grid backbone will remain but they will largely give way to community-level energy management.” These community-level energy grids will foster increased engagement by giving individuals and families an understanding of how they consume energy. The first level of management will be at the personal level and then the household level. This tier system can scale seamlessly to a large building and to a community. This is not an entirely new concept – the idea of sharing energy is promoted by a number of companies in the field. However, Enervalis’s strategy takes a revolutionary new approach. “A lot of our competitors look at single, specific aspects of energy management. For example, they may focus on a voltage operator or another component to improve consistency or reliability of energy delivery. Unfortunately, those individual parts are single components in a building – without a holistic solution, it will inevitably underperform or fail entirely.”
Stefan differentiates how Enervalis deals with optimization. “I see too many companies addressing physical optimization. That is characteristic of a failure to understand energy management as a symbiotic process. A microgrid is almost a living, breathing thing; it is flexible and fluid. You cannot hardcode it with inert, rigid physical restrictions.” “Enervalis has designed an operating system that delivers a range of services instead of limiting itself to any single segment or energy service. That’s definitely different from the majority of our competitors.” The silo approach used by other companies will limit their ability to adapt and expand in the future. Conversely, Enervalis’s open perspective will keep them relevant for decades to come. Universal Success Stefan is driven by a desire to make a major sustainable impact for the world. “I believe that the whole energy sector has to transform fundamentally. Trillions of dollars are spent on energy annually and we tap into its very center through intelligent management. Simple tweaks based on intelligence will reduce bills and make a significant difference in creating a sustainable, green society.” The beauty of Enervalis’s solution is that everyone wins – the consumer, the energy supplier, and, most importantly, the planet. That’s a hard argument to bet against.

What strategies has Jelastic Corporation undertaken to stay ahead of the competition? Throughout the development of our PaaS solution, we witnessed increasing interest in container technology and multi-cloud availability. And some of our initial architectural decisions made it easy for us to keep up with the modern trends: Ÿ From the very start, we built Jelastic on top of Virtuozzo containers, so when Docker technology evolved, we already had substantial expertise in this sphere and smoothly integrated this standard into the platform. Ÿ Initially, Jelastic was created as a platform for service providers to offer public cloud and managed services around it. But considering that it could be easily installed on bare metal or any IaaS, we coped to launch private and hybrid cloud options rather fast. Afterward, some technical adjustments and partnership with globally known cloud vendors helped us to provide a multi-cloud implementation. Describe the experiences, achievements or lessons learnt that has shaped the journey of the company. The initial prototype of the Jelastic PaaS was built for own internal needs trying to solve the waste of human resources on the configuration of application servers and databases, ongoing maintenance of the infrastructure, security updates, and of course, architecture modernization

when the project is growing, for example, going from standalone to a cluster mode. Then we figured out that there is a high demand for such a solution among other developers. From that time, we have two rules - to use our product internally where it is possible and to build a roadmap of future enhancements based on the requests from customers. In such a way we can track real needs and keep meeting demand. Where does Jelastic Corporation sees itself in the long run and what are its future goals? As usual, Jelastic has a rich set of plans. Currently, we are actively working on enhancing and spreading scalable and clustered packages for businesses. In addition, we are working on self-deployment of the lightweight version of Jelastic PaaS. As a result, customers will be able to install the platform automatically on the hardware or the cloud of their choice. Among the first implementations, there will be installations on top of Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure, and Digital Ocean. In the long run, we plan to grow our partner network of service providers covering new locations and markets, as well as to go deeper into the enterprise market with our private and multicloud solutions. Easily Compatible Unlike the big manufacturing robots in huge industries, there are various collaborative robots which are specially designed to work alongside and to assist human workers in a variety of tasks. Earlier it was sort of stressful for an enterprise to allot specific man-power for certain task, but by implementing co-bots such issues are resolved. As the size and shape of co-bots are getting more
compact, it may benefit the enterprises in various terms. Easy to Develop Earlier robots were not able to program easily due to the incompatibility between the user interface and hardware. But, now Robotic Operating System (ROS) is dominating the industry by providing solutions for varied robots in order to perform the task without lagging. It’s an opensource framework which helps developers to redirect the programming in different ways. This open-source framework is dominating the growth towards the constructive direction. Amplifying the Range of Applied Robotics The 21st century—is the era of implementing new ideology and technologies in various sectors. While technological disruption has collectively affected every possible

sector, robotics is still unaffected. From past few years, the technology, as well as its implementation, has increased substantially. Have a look on such few areas for possible applications. Obliging Enterprises through Robotics Cobot’s: Assisting Humans Unlike big manufacturing robots, collaborative robots are designed to work with employees in enterprises and corporates. The design is smart enough to assist humans and also, compact enough to handle. Generally, the small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are slightly boon by implementing co-bots in day to day life, as they are easily adaptable, easy to process and most importantly it’s affordable. According to some experts, there’s a possibility of enormous growth in the business, if Co-bots are implemented widely. The main motive of industrial robots is to the prioritized safety of employees and workers, yet the chances of accidents are always at high risk. Whereas, co-bots works as a service robot; they come in various shape and sizes easing the workability and reducing the liability of employees. In order to get sanctioned as service robots, any co-bot has to pass certain testing parameters by robot manufacturing companies, factors such as easily compatible with other devices and programs, safe in use, easy to command, and processing at a faster rate. Currently, co-bots are used for processes like machine tending, packaging, and material handling. In spite of industries, co-bots are used in various sectors such as in farming, hospitals, healthcare and facilities, and labs. It does come under robot-as-aservice format.
with personal robotics cloud which will help robots to take and give information directly. Depending on the robot, it can process various functions such as lifting, leveraging, handle vision, object recognition and other, thus certain robots acquire such skills and will provide information to the cloud. Then, this information helps other robots to get enlightened. In simple words to say, robots will teach other robots for the better good of the enterprises. On the other hand, as robots are getting more and more evolved, filtering of essential information from rest will get much easier. This will comfort both big and small enterprises to manage big data more precisely. With the emergence of advancement in robotics, they are on the verge to touch skies already. If considering the above possible factors, this evergreen era of robotics is less likely to get saturated due to technological disruption. As the technologies are growing faster, the enterprises must to catch-up with them accordingly. It’s high time to implement new technologies especially of the robotics as its utilization is not only subjected to warehouses but also, towards the inhouse enterprise work. Hopefully, there’s a possibility of robot-oriented industries in the future.
Cloud Robotics Imagine an enterprise with robots that are totally independent to the user commands, in other words, no external programming may require in order to process robots for the various tasks. In accordance to that, a User Interface to be exact might not be needed in the future, as machine learning is already on its verge to get explored. Currently, in order to carry out certain tasks robots are been told to what to do using the interface whereas, cloud robotics directly twitch compatible code from the clouds which are required for the tasks. To work alongside with humans, robots must be deep learning the subjects simultaneously able to point out problems and provide solutions right away. Meanwhile, it will be a boon for the enterprises if the employees will get to interact with robots as a personified object rather than a machine. Soon, there

Empowering
Healthcare Providers in Creating and Managing
Medical Records
T
he healthcare sector has been repeatedly disrupted over the last several decades, more often than not due to external forces including more governmental requirements such as HIPAA and meaningful use, complex requirements from health insurers, astounding changes in technology including the implementation of EHR/EMRs. Many of these changes have not been favorable to healthcare providers. They find themselves spending far more time performing mundane tasks of paperwork and clinical documentation, less face-to-face time with patients, and more time spent away from family and other personal pursuits. Practices saw their most valuable assets - physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants - spending time doing data entry, tethered to their computers, yet ending up with very little actionable information. Mark D. Boyce, President and CEO, recognized that the current state was not sustainable. Scribe Technology Solutions was formed to mold the latest technology and services to fit and simplify clinical documentation. These technology-enabled services employ leading edge concepts including artificial intelligence and robotics, next generation speech recognition, and Natural Language Processing (NLP) to ensure best of class, lowest cost and highly scalable infrastructure and service delivery methods. “All those things you’ve been forcing people to do through data entry, all these disparate systems don’t work together. Our technology lets providers speak what happens in a patient encounter and then our technology will do the heavy lifting, do the analysis, do the transfer of the information, do the actual creation of the info, do the parsing of the info, so it’s more meaningful, valuable and then transfer that info
48
where it needs to go. You can do things differently than in the past. That’s the disruption,” says Boyce. Scribe’s clinical documentation solutions are easy to use because they are based on the way providers recorded patient encounters in the past - simply recording their observations and findings. What is innovative and progressive, and therefore perceived as disruptive, is how Scribe takes that recording and uses NLP to input the information directly into the EMR/EHR. This saves the provider hours at the keyboard. Tom Luther, Scribe’s COO says, “We’re not asking for providers to do anything that they didn’t do 20 years ago, rather we provide them tools within a cloud-based platform, in affect allowing them to revert back to using “old school” workflows that most are familiar and comfortable using. By recording their instructions and patient visits, Scribe consolidates the data and takes care of returning it directly into their EMR systems as discrete data. The provider becomes more efficient and effective in seeing their patients by allowing them to spend more time with patients, see more patients, spend more time with their families, or a combination thereof.” With new regulations and requirements being layered onto the healthcare workload, providers are sometimes wary of yet another “solution” or “disruption.” Scribe takes a unique approach with healthcare practitioners. By talking about their goals, what they perceive as barriers to the goals, and learning about the practice workflows, Scribe can develop a tailored system that is right for a provider’s work style. Luther adds, “EMRs/EHRs were developed as a black box that was developed for one thing -- to store medical documents regarding a patient encounter in a computer, replacing the need for a paper

medical record; that was the original intent. But then providers were told they were to be responsible for reporting more quality measures through governmental mandates such as Meaningful Use in order to be appropriately reimbursed for the services provided and the documentation burden became overwhelming and much more time consuming than maintaining a paper record. But there are others ways of capturing these measures, and Scribe’s platform will manage the information appropriately for providers so they have all the information they need for the government, payers, and regulatory agencies. We show providers how we can make their life better - not disruptive, rather productiveand in a more progressive manner. When providers experience our tools in action during a risk free pilot period, they see our tools as progressive, and it reflects the way they used to document patient encounters in the past, and disrupts more current dysfunctional methods.” The results of using Scribe’s tools are immediately clear to the providers. They can have more quality time with their patients and don’t have to spend as much time at the computers doing mundane tasks. Sometimes IT departments or practice administrators aren’t excited about another new system until they learn that Scribe’s implementation is easy and they see how the revenue improves, providers are benefiting, often adding to their daily patient visits. Another important outcome of using Scribe’s solutions is the meaningful, useful data that can be extracted from the records. Boyce says, “We’ve always tried to develop technology to understand what humans want to have happen. Speech recognition technologies were first, NLP came next, and now we have technology that lets those pieces work together so that at the other end you have lots of discrete pieces of information that are more meaningful and useful. Once you have those meaningful pieces that enhance data, you can apply a final piece of technology to get it where it needs to go, including the use of automation tool such as robotics. There’s another important feature - Scribe’s tools provide analytic feedback. In the past, the ability to analyze data has required a statistical background. Now, if you can categorize information in a medical practice, and break pieces of text into meaningful data and enhance that,
October 2018

you’ve gained the ability to automatically apply standard common analytical techniques to provide meaningful summaries of information to people. We can automatically summarize that information, give it back to the provider, and instead of taking time, they can have better dashboards in order to have more intelligence, ask better questions and give better care to patients.” A practical application of this might be seen with a physician who sees many patients with Type 2 Diabetes. The doctor could pull records to determine how many are on specific medications, how often they’re seen compared to patients on other medications, and how effective the treatment might be. Or, using Scribe’s technology, the doctor can create a dashboard that will quickly input this information to a report without the labor required to review every record. Dashboards can be created easily for any analytics a provider might need. So one might ask the question “Does going back to the old-school dictation make Scribe a disrupter?” Luther
49
Boyce added, “Just like other organizations and people have disrupted tech industries - million dollar widgets that 5 yrs later you can get anywhere for $150 - that’s what I look at in terms of what we’re doing. Companies are selling million dollar clinical documentation systems and all the services related to them, and there needs to be something that disrupts those costly, highly inefficient models with technology at a much lower cost price point, that takes cost out of system and streamlines the process. That’s what makes Scribe disruptive. Our solutions are progressive for those that use them.”
Tom Luther CMPE - Chief Operating Ofcer
believes “Companies like ours look to develop new solutions and provide progressive services to improve the healthcare industry and that’s why we’re sometimes perceived to be disruptive. Are we disruptive? Maybe depending on who you ask. We see ourselves as pioneers, assisting medical practices and healthcare institutions with finding ways to simplify the many demands put on them by collecting and making sense of the patient data. We are giving providers their life back by simplifying how to collect data on their patients and then making the data useful for the payers and patients themselves. In essence, Scribe provides healthcare providers the tools to collect data on a patient in a very non-invasive way, allowing providers to focus and maximize their face-to-face time with their patients. This allows them to practice medicine at the top of their professional license(s) which hopefully results in better outcomes for their patients.”
50
The good news is the adoption of Scribe’s platform is quick and easy, it is not mandatory for every provider within a practice to use it, and it accommodates any type of clinic workflow. Today, almost every provider carries a device like their iPhone with them non-stop, and now they can use it in a way that makes them more productive without learning anything new. Our platform is extremely flexible, it can accommodate a more seasoned provider who might be more comfortable using digital voice recorders or a younger provider who might be more comfortable with using the technologies like “Alexa” and “Siri” to gather patient information. Bottom line, providers utilizing Scribe’s tools will increase their productivity, improve their revenue, and impact the quality of care because they are enabled to focus on what matters most - patient care. By using Scribe’s solutions and services, providers are situated to easily adapt to any new disruptions that may come their way through the government, insurers, and other external forces. And we all know that history repeats itself and unwanted “disruptions” are inevitable. Scribe leadership believes that its business model is well-placed to continue to be innovative, progressive and even “disruptive.” Boyce concluded, “As an agile streamlined company we move quickly, change direction as needed, and we are not encumbered by corporate bureaucracy. We provide the resources and tools necessary to empower our employees to do what needs to be done as quickly and efficiently as possible. In addition, we pride ourselves on being a virtual company, our workforce is not located in one site, allowing us the opportunity to hire the brightest and best no matter where they are in the world.”
