I

t’s my birthday… what to do? After finding a cheap flight to Liverpool, and knowing that there’s quite a number of things to explore I went off to celebrate my birthday in the city of music and football!

As one would imagine there are a lot of places of interest – this was my second visit in Liverpool and I still didn’t see all the attractions. Three days obviously weren’t enough but I managed to visit some hidden gems this time round. First stop: U-Boat story. I caught the ferry and took a tour on the Mersey River before visiting the amazing German U-boat (submarine). The submarine was split into four parts with glass viewing partitions in order to have a look at the interior and discover its surprisingly well-preserved artefacts including a rare Enigma machine. Being a Liverpool supporter, it is a must to go and watch a match and obviously book for the stadium tour. On game day you can feel the excitement growing in the streets of Liverpool. Supporters wearing scarves and red shirts everywhere. When I arrived at the ground and entered the stands, an unexplainable feeling struck me. I looked around and the ground was packed with supporters. The whole crowd was buzzing with excitement and started singing ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ by Gerry and The Pacemakers. It was such a great feeling. Next up was the ground tour. I managed to go in the dressing rooms, lounge room, player’s interview area and the conference room and obviously went round the football ground itself. Liverpool is really amazing in conserving its musical history and promoting it to the thousands of tourists who visit the city each year. How can you go to Liverpool and not visit a museum or take up a tour related to The 5

I went to Albert Dock, and there was a colourful bus waiting to depart. The second I stepped in, the music went on; “Roll up roll up for the Mystery Tour”. As the name of the tour implies - ‘The Mystery Tour’ - I was about to enter a dream world, a world which I would give anything to live in. The same world in which The Beatles used to live in.

bar where The Beatles used to play quite frequently. The place felt really cosy; there was this guy with a guitar on stage singing the Beatles’ songs and the crowd joined in. This is the place to be if you’re really into music and would like to enjoy the night with a couple of beers or a glass of wine and just let it be.

Liverpool does not only offer history and entertainment, but also great places to shop and eat. Liverpool has three shopping arcades, with Liverpool One being the most recent – it’s huge! There are all the brands one could imagine and can find great deals. After a couple of hours of shopping, hunger started taking over, but don’t worry too much as there are plenty of food outlets to choose from, including Chinese or Indian and typical British or Italian food. Food lovers will find a great choice of restaurants to dine in with great deals and value for money. And of course, one cannot simply forget the pubs which are all 7

The Practitioner A man came to reside in a village of green He was the first of his kind to live within The land of livestock and crops. Healed many, rested the ills Raised a family and provided humorous thrills He was a true gentleman indeed. Yet he soon was plagued by a disease Not treated by drugs or remedies to ease Self-pride and wit. His legacy he thought was surely tainted He silently smirks, how they shamed it. That his offspring, like him they’d never be.
