rand-new competitive gaming venue, Spinners, has opened at Touchwood Solihull, offering fun and games for the whole family to enjoy.

Located next to Cineworld on Upper Jubilee Walk, Spinners is an exciting new addition to the centre, inviting some healthy competition with friends and family through a wide range of unique games in the Instagram-worthy setting – from Electric Clay Shooting – bringing the countryside pursuit indoors – to Duckpin Bowling, with its reduced lane length and smaller pins and ball. There is plenty to choose from, with Crazy Golf and Electric Darts also on offer.

Whilst joining in on the interactive activities, guests can indulge in mouthwatering food – with loaded fries, artisan pizzas and sweet pizza desserts just a few of the options on the menu. To wash the treats down, shaketo-order cocktails are on hand, with popular classics like the Strawberry Daiquiri and Espresso Martini waiting to be enjoyed.

The venue welcomes under 18s before 6pm while evenings will be adults only, allowing a relaxed space for guests to unwind into the evening.

Amy Trott, Head of Operations at Spinners UK, said: “Solihull has a vibrant hospitality scene and we’re looking forward to being a part of it by bringing the Spinners concept to Touchwood. As our third location in the UK, we have pulled out all the stops for Solihull, which will feature our widest variety of games yet. My personal favourite is the clay shooting, but who doesn’t love a bit of crazy golf!”

Tony Elvin, General Manager at Touchwood, said: “We are delighted to welcome Spinners UK to Touchwood, bringing a new, fresh and exciting leisure destination to the heart of Solihull.

“Throughout my time at Touchwood, we have been working hard to bring the right competitive socialising venue to the centre and I am so pleased we have been able to do just that with Spinners. As a local, I know how much of a demand there is for such a concept.”

To book your visit to Spinners,

“The guest experience is more important now than ever to destinations like ours and this new addition helps us cement Touchwood’s position as a go-to location for friends, family and businesses alike. Spinners has seen tremendous success with its first two openings, and we look forward to helping continue that success here in Solihull.”

Tony Elvin, General Manager at Touchwood

SANGRIA

SUNLOUNGER

Ingredients Method

Vegetable or sunflower oil, for greasing

300g Essential Ginger Nut Biscuits

120g lightly salted butter, melted

250g Essential Soft Cheese

250g mascarpone

4 tbsp caster sugar

1 ball stem ginger, very finely chopped, plus 6 tbsp syrup

150ml double cream

3 peaches, stoned and thinly sliced

1 lemon, juice

2 tbsp peach or apricot jam

Preheat the oven to 180ºC, gas mark 4. Grease and line the base and sides of a 20cm loose-bottomed cake tin (at least cm deep) with baking parchment. Whizz the biscuits in a food processor to fine crumbs. Stir in the butter, then press into the prepared tin – begin in the middle, compressing and working to the edges and up the sides to about cm deep. Bake for 15 minutes, carefully push down any puffy parts, then leave to cool completely.

With the paddle attachment on a stand mixer (or by hand with a spatula), combine the soft cheese, mascarpone, 2 tbsp sugar and the stem ginger syrup until smooth. Pour in the cream and beat until just holding soft peaks – this may take up to 5 minutes. Spoon into the cooled biscuit shell and smooth using a palette knife or spatula. Cover and chill for at least 2 hours (or overnight).

In a small mixing bowl, combine the peach slices with the remaining 2 tbsp sugar, the stem ginger and lemon juice; set aside for at least 30 minutes. Remove the cheesecake from the tin and transfer to a serving plate; arrange the peaches on top. In a small pan, combine 1 tbsp peach juices from the bowl with the jam; simmer for 3-5 minutes to thicken slightly, then strain into a bowl. Brush over the fruit; slice and serve.

he property market in Solihull is currently experiencing notable dynamics as of mid-2024, with prices holding relatively stable despite broader market fluctuations. This area’s popularity endures due to its high-quality living standards, strong sense of community, and excellent amenities.

Family homes are particularly in demand, driven by Solihull’s reputation for quality of life, picturesque parks, and outstanding educational institutions. The area boasts some of the best primary and secondary schools in the country, ensuring children receive a top-tier education that sets them up for future success.

Analysts predict a slight drop in property prices nationally throughout 2024, with an anticipated recovery and growth by 2025 and beyond. Solihull is likely to follow this trend to some extent, but historically, its property market has performed above the national average due to its desirability and strong local economy.

Now get ready for the holiday of a lifetime.

We’re sure you’ve been dreaming of kicking back on a far-flung beach or heading off on an awesome adventure together since you put a ring on it/said yes. So where (or when) would you like to go? And where do you even start when there are so many special places out there?

The Maldives – Paradise found

The Maldives is our number one honeymoon hotspot. Why? It’s like nowhere else on Earth. You’ll understand once you’ve felt its talcumsoft sands between your toes, cosied up at a beach cinema to watch a movie under the stars, and slept above its piercing blue lagoon in a private overwater villa. Each of our handpicked resorts is on its own private white-sand island, so your Maldives honeymoon will feel secluded and exclusive. Choosing where to stay is a big decision as it’s not just about where you’ll sleep. If you pop in-store for a chat, we’ll help you find the right match. We’ll talk you through things like the vibe of the island, the size, the food, the local experiences, how easy it is to get there, and what you might see on the house reef.

Southeast Asian adventures

Sightsee your way around Vietnam and the Temples of Angkor. Vietnam has glorious brochure-worthy beaches but that’s not really what a trip to this fascinating country is about. It’s a place that needs to be travelled. Take in the hectic streets of Hanoi, drift on a colourful junk through the dreamlike limestone landscape of Halong Bay and while you’re close by, it’s a nobrainer to hop over the border to Cambodia to explore the mighty Temples of Angkor Wat, one of the world’s most amazing archaeological sites.

Discover the artsy, adventurous and wellness sides of Bali. The Island of the Gods is a one-stop shop for Instagrammable beaches, storybook jungle landscapes and bohemian villages. And it’s excellent value for money.

Thailand is wonderfully diverse and we can design a trip that’s all about romance, including boutique hideaways with knockout views and beachside dining under the stars. You’ll be blown away by the cacophony of colour, gold-glittering temples and curious wildlife. Wellness seekers can retreat to private pool sanctuaries where oceanfront yoga and spa treatments await.

On safari in Africa: the best wildlife viewing on the planet

There’s a big warning that comes with a safari honeymoon: the wildlife is so extraordinary, you’ll probably pay more attention to the animals than each other. Maybe you’ll bump into a leopard slinking through the grass at dawn, spot a new-born giraffe finding its legs as it gallops across the plains, or see lions roaming the runway as your tiny plane comes in to land. This is their world and we’re just visitors. On a Kuoni safari, it’s about minimum people, maximum wildlife. Think hideaway camps, exclusive Jeep rides out on the rolling plains and romantic experiences – like soaring above the sun-blazed savannah to scout out cheetahs and rhinos from a hot-air balloon, then landing in the middle of the bush where, out of nowhere, a Champagne breakfast appears.

Solihull BID was established by ballot in 2010 and again in 2015 and 2020 as an independent, business-led, not-for-profit initiative to ensure investment into the town centre based on the priorities of the business community.

All of the money raised by the BID – from the levy, sponsorship and commercial income – is invested directly back into Solihull town centre.

How is a BID set up?

A BID can only be formed following consultation and a ballot in which businesses vote on a BID proposal/business plan for the area. The ballot is run impartially by the local authority, in this case Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council. All businesses eligible to pay the levy are balloted.

For a BID to go ahead the ballot must be won on two counts: majority by number of votes and majority of rateable value of those voting.

In the Solihull BID3 (2020-2025) ballot held in 2019, 90.35% voted in favour and a 96.27% majority by rateable value.

All eligible ratepayers within the BID Area with a Rateable Value of £10,000 and above will be able to vote in the next ballot being held in September this year to see if the BID continues for a fourth term, running from 2025-2030.

‘BID’ stands for ‘Business Improvement District’. BIDs are business-led partnerships that agree by ballot every five years to pay an extra levy based on their rateable value to fund activities, services and improvements that will benefit the businesses and the place in which they operate.

BIDs were first established in Canada and the US in the 1970s and now exist across the globe, including in South Africa, Germany, Japan, New Zealand and Australia.

Legislation enabling the formation of BIDs was passed in 2003 in England and Wales (with subsequent regulations published in 2004 and 2005 respectively) and in 2006 in Scotland. Kingston First became the first BID in the UK in 2005.

BIDs enter into baseline agreements with the local authority and other service providers which guarantee the level of base service provision in the area. These ensure that any services the BID provides are truly additional. Nationally, there are over 340 BIDs in the UK, investing over £150m every year, giving business an independent voice and investing in business-led initiatives.

GET TO KNOW US...

Solihull BID’s plans for BID4

Solihull BID is seeking to renew the Business Improvement District for the Solihull town centre for another five-year term (1st August 2025 – 31st July 2030) and has requested Solihull Council to administer the ballot, in accordance with the Business Improvement Districts (England) Regulations 2004.

Over the next five years we propose to build on our robust foundations already created to drive visible innovation throughout the town centre.

We aim to continue to evolve and improve, growing the local economy keeping Solihull at the forefront of success.

We’ll do this by collaborating with our partners to make Solihull an ever more compelling place in which to work and visit, renowned for its vibrant and bright future. Solihull BID is ready to respond to our business’ immediate needs on day one of BID 4 and every day thereafter.

The

focus of our strategy over the next five years will be…

Business Matters - Our business community is the beating heart of Solihull’s economy. Now with a dedicated Professional Services and Office Sector Champion, we will ensure our business community continues to prosper.

Safe & Secure - Building on our proven track record of reducing crime and improving security across the town centre, we will continue to develop and deliver projects that protect the people and businesses of Solihull and provide support to those who need us most.

Place shaping - Accredited by the Institute of Place Management, we will continue to act as conduit between our businesses, the local authority and key partners to ensure redevelopment prioritises business needs, protects our business environment, and reflects the ambitions of those living and working in Solihull.

Solihull Festivals - Central to our work since our very first term, our calendar of free festivals and events is now a cornerstone of Solihull life. The next five years will see an even more jampacked programme for the whole family, showcasing the very best in local culture and entertainment, attracting visitors from the UK and beyond

A showcase for Solihull -We are proud of our town and take every opportunity to showcase its wide-ranging attractions and achievements. From our buzzing social media channels to national news outreach, we will continue to promote Solihull in all its glory – attracting custom, talent and recognition from across the UK.
