TO NETWORK OR NOT TO NETWORK BY DAWN HUFF Finding Your Networking Clan! …OR Networking Mojo I am still struggling with my title lol… Today I was driving to the Moade Center and thinking about how much things have changed since I first got started in my own business. I started back when the internet ordering system was just barely getting invented in my company. No one was on Facebook… maybe there were some on Myspace but we were not doing business there. If I wanted to Network in my business I had to go all the way across town to a stuffy business breakfast meeting where a bunch of people in grey suits were handing each other business cards and not really trying to build relationships with each other. The other option was the evening happy hour networking which felt like an extension of the dating scene… the general vibe you got from people was that they were awesome, cool, and so successful. It felt fake and so did I. Pretty much no one in my team circle did it, so it felt okay for me to quit.

Fast forward about 10 years and I heard myself several times say… “I don’t go to those “Networking Things” they are terrible. No one is really trying to build relationships…they just want to sell you something.”

I realized I needed to revisit the idea and open my mind and heart to some new people and some new ways to meet them. Surely there was someone out there who already had a group formed that really meant something to each other besides a sale…and if not, I was going to find one that needed someone a little different like me.

I tried a few different groups and events and I was literally praying one morning that I would be able to find the group or person that I needed and I got a message that popped up that I could attend a lunch meet up with The Bold & Beautiful Society. I had no idea where this was or who they were but I paid for a table and put it on my calendar right away. I met the most awesome group of business women as well as my friend Rita and that is where things began to change.
I have learned a ton since that first day. I have made so many new friends that I lost count. I have been surrounded by the awesome energy of positive people since that first moment. My first month in the group I made more money in one week then I usually do in a whole month. I found excitement again! Here are some tips I have learned along the way that can help you have the same results, if you have been thinking of jumping in to some networking opportunities. 1. Just do it! It may seem scary but it will be worth it. 2. Go more than once! Making new friends isn’t always automatic…like it was for Rita and myself. Sometimes you must try a few times or try various groups before you feel your fit! (I call it Party Hopping, if that makes it seem more like fun to you also.) 3. Go with the agenda to serve others. In a mingling setting I never hand people my business card unless they ask. I just go to get to know other people. Ask lots of questions…What do they do? What do they like about their business? Do they have kids? Hobbies? Get to know them. Think about who you know that would love them and want to connect with them. 4. Trust me they will eventually ask you about your business, but keep your answer simple and get back to them. They will remember you later. 5. When you find that exceptional group, find out how you can serve the group. Don’t show up just to get something from it yourself go to add value! Everyone will be drawn to you. Your attitude is everything! Have fun!!! NOMADIC

YOU'RE BEST YOU! By Christina Reimer Chaos is everywhere. At times, head spins, heart races and hands start to sweat because of all the chaos. Go ahead take a stroll outside through a park. Being outside is good for both the body and soul. Experience the warmth of the gentle breeze of fresh air. Feel the different textures from trees, bushes and the ground beneath your feet. Take time to smell the aroma from the flowers. Don’t worry about where the path leads, keep walking forward. The view at the end will be spectacular…trust me on this! Nature speaks to me and hopefully does to you as well. Here are few lessons to encourage, inspire and challenge you to be the best of You. Stay Hydrated Our bodies need food and fluids to function properly. To grow- explore new places, experiences and never stop fueling your hunger for more of life. Keep Active Step by step keep walking forward. Watch out for distractions, yet keep moving. Life is a journey not a race. Go at your own pace. Make a plan and take it step by step. Bloom Where ever you are in life- bloom. Don’t wait for the right time- take action now. Some flowers bloom for the season, some come back year after year and others bloom all the time. Be true to yourself, shine brightly right where you are. Even in the midst of chaos. Whichever path you take in life- stay hydrated, keep active and bloom. Life is a precious gif so enjoy it every single moment of every day.

Meet Victor & Esther Rodriguez Both born and raised in the states of Illinois and Texas. With strong family roots in Texas, in the last 11 yrs we made San Antonio our home town. Just recently celebrated our 28th year anniversary, we have 6 children together literally the Hispanic Brady Bunch 3 boys & 3 girls with 2 grandchildren. We are both members of the Hispanic Business Alliance, volunteers & members of LULAC 4217 holding offices of President and Chaplain. Volunteers for a few other organizations as well. Having strong family values and love for music that has influenced and helped heal us all as a whole. Mainly our eldest daughter Alexizz that has cerebral palsy and suffers from seizures on a daily bases. Music is what made her move her legs and want to stand. Due to this, we first started TexMex Procutions back in 2002 in Chicago then after 2 yrs we had to take a break due to many medical issues that our daughter started to suffer from. With that being said and at the advice of Doctors we moved to Texas . Life happens and we had to adjust and time just got away. But we seem to always find ways to listen or be part of our passion of music, family and helping others. A a year ago we volunteered with HBA in New Braunfels for the Dia De Los Muertos event. My husband and I were put in charge of Entertainment and VIP area, with that the event was successful . At the end of it people were inquiring who was in charge of entertainment they gave my husband’s name and a few establishments reached out to ask him about helping them bring entertainment to their establishment. We spoke about it and decided to bring back our business of contracting entertainers and TEXMEX Productions was born again. We truly believe this came back due to what was born again in myself and in my family due to the Moade Center. From our faith in the lord, volunteering unselfishly and just taking time for our family. Giving to others you never know how far it affects or what it can bring.
