SAN ANTONIO IN A BOX Hi, I am Allison Craig founder and CEO of San Antonio in a Box. I started out my career growing up with our family in Graham Texas, running down the dirt roads of the my fathers oil and gas leases. The oldest of 5 kids, who are all my best friends, we spent a lot of time together as a family, traveled and all shared the same passion Track & Field. Little did I know that running the lease roads would be a step in my path to a scholarship to run track at The University of Buffalo in New York! A slight culture shock for this Texan who didn’t pack well, but adapted quickly and made some of the best friends of my life and had the best mentor

meet new people I find everyone fascinating and I’ve never met a stranger, just like my father. Owning my own business has allowed me so much flexibility to open my heart to more time that allows me to give back to our community, become a better wife, mom and human being. I recently joined the board for the THRU Project, which is such a fascinating organization if you’re not familiar. We help bridge the gap for Foster Youth that have aged out of foster care by assigning them to a mentor, connecting job opportunities, VIA bus passes, cell phones, etc. We are always looking for more mentors too! I am also on my kids daycare school board, which is an incredible school with amazing individuals leading and

teaching with so much love even through Covid. We are so blessed to have all teachers, but especially those at our school who stay open for the working parents in our community. And, my favorite part of each day is being with my family, after 5. We leave work at work and commit to our family time, as we know time goes by so quickly, and we want to spend as much quality time with the little ones as possible. San Antonio in a Box is a business that is designed to network the small businesses of San Antonio with individuals that normally wouldn’t get a chance to taste of our city. We pull together some

We want to connect each customer with our San Antonio small businesses and hope that they will come back and buy more from their favorite item inside the box. For example, we have seen this with some of our Chocolates, we carry Casa Mexican Hot Chocolate and it’s been a favorite of some of our customers. We’ve shipped our boxes all over the world and we love hearing from our vendors who say, they received and order from Oregon because they received a chocolate bar in a San Antonio in a Box! We also include a vendor

customers connect with the small businesses of San Antonio! Our business started December 4, 2019, we are ONE! We started our business because we love San Antonio of course, but have had too many conversations on planes or in passing of visitors of San Antonio who have loved our city but haven’t had the time to venture outside of the River Walk. So, we wanted to be able to provide an option where you can highlight the North, South, West, and East side of San Antonio in a box but never have to leave your convention or the River Walk. We wanted to support all of our small businesses of San Antonio by networking and pulling together a

for their visitors of our city. I may be biased but I think it’s really fantastic and the feedback has been nothing but positive. San Antonio in a Box is committed to sharing the best of our city. We locally procure one-of-a-kind products from over 40 area makers. By holding this box, you are contributing to the success of these businesses! In the beginning the idea started from our wedding and pulling together different gift boxes to greet our guests. But, I’d like to answer the question with our vendors and small businesses of San Antonio are the ones who inspire us. Receiving texts, calls and emails of thanks and gratitude from these amazing small businesses, who we have been able to help through Covid have been the most inspirational and moving messages I’ve ever

received.

Emails

and

from

our

customers are always so inspiring, especially over Christmas when their loved ones were having to spend the holiday alone but we were able to send a box full of San Antonio to help yield that space of loneliness and connect loved ones from afar. Every message we receive is the most heartfelt and inspiring words of encouragement that keep us going with a smile! We have a fantastic team! I handle all of the operations and day to day business with San Antonio in a Box. We have sales, marketing, website and delivery drivers as an incredible team who have helped our business grow this year! We help connect small businesses with new customers, but we also help family members or friends connect with their loved ones. We also help corporate customers connect with their customers or employees as we handle their gifting and customization of the boxes. We always want to be creative and always want to give every idea a conversation and see how we can make it work. For example, if our box model is not the right fit for a vendor we are still happy to help promote in our box with a flyer or promote on social media with our wonderful followers. Or, help in any way! We want to include and encourage everyone, especially through these difficult times.

Starting The Craft Jar has made me feel happier and confident, and that is what want my children to see. 5. What is the main message or purpose of your Business? Also, I would like to be more involved, help with anything that I can, and learn more about our community. 9. How can someone get in contact with you for more information? ZEN, SWEAT AND CHEERS Elizabeth Herrea

"My promise for all my classes is to give you a little Zen, make you sweat and cheer you on!"

Liz Herrera

Hi, I’m Liz. Or “Yoga Liz” as they call me on Facebook. I want to thank Rita for this opportunity to be interviewed. It was so nice to speak with you. I am a yoga and fitness instructor whose goal is to build community and create an environment for everyone and everybody. My motto is to meet my students where they are on their fitness journey. Currently all my classes are virtual, we use Zoom to connect and I have to say the classroom experience hasn’t changed that much. Although we are not in person, we still come together and connect as a community. For some people that social time is as important as the physical exercise.

Just over 6 years ago I received my 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Certification from Core Power Yoga and have been teaching yoga ever since. I became a full-time instructor after moving to San Antonio a couple years ago. Working with the YMCA I was given the opportunity to teach Senior Fitness also known as Silver Sneakers and that took off. I have several other certifications I have acquired over the years for different styles of yoga and group fitness. Through Silver Sneakers I was introduced to chair fitness and more low impact fitness so classes can truly be accessible to all. That is something I take great care to accomplish to make sure plenty of variety and versions of exercise are offered so the whole class can feel successful and get the work out they need. My company is called Zen, Sweat and Cheers. I created the name after getting certified to teach yoga with weights. I wanted to remind people it is always yoga first. My promise for all my classes is to give you a little Zen, make you sweat and cheer you on! The newest addition to my business is a recently launched apparel line. I currently have Zen, Sweat and Cheers branded Women’s tank tops and Unisex T-Shirts that have a Mandala and Om within the design which are known to be universal symbols of yoga and I am very proud to have created it myself. It has been very exciting to see the positive feedback in both my classes and the apparel. Last year at this time I purchased some art supplies and wanted to give Mandala Art Therapy a try, I learned just how therapeutic Mandala drawing can be. I literally got lost for hours working on each piece it was calming and especially satisfying that without being an experienced artist I was able to create some beautiful art. After building my website I chose to use one of my designs as my logo. Mandalas are circular designs symbolizing the notion that life is never ending, we are all united including mind, body and spirit. Many mandalas have spiritual significance to an individual or group of individuals and the meaning is far

27

greater. The Om symbol within the Mandala is known to be the original sound of the universe and all encompassing. Both om and mandala can be a form of meditation and for me wearing these symbols is a reminder to take your yoga off your mat. In other words breathe, let go, hold the door for a stranger, smile just try to see and be the good in life. We know it's not always easy but having symbolism around acts as a beautiful and subtle reminder. Just in the last couple months but I have been an instructor for over 6 years. So, in a way I was partially self-employed as I was a contracted employee but now I truly am. It has its challenges and I am learning through mistakes that is certain but I’m learning. I have been fortunate to have an amazing family, awesome group of friends and women who have been so incredibly supportive and good to me in one way or another. I can’t express my gratitude enough. I love helping people feel better! I mainly started virtual online classes just to keep everyone active and sane during quarantine not realizing how long this would go on and it has become a matter of survival during Covid. Exercise has always been in my life in some form but Yoga changed my life. I found it relieved stress when I was overwhelmed and at a job I really disliked, it helped me learn how to deal with so many things in life, how to let go of the past, focus on the present and live in the current moment. I knew I had to share that with other people and just make it part of my life forever. My main message is to help people move, breathe and to feel better. To encourage and motivate. To make sure it is known that yoga and fitness are for everyone and every body. Start where you are, just start and let's have some fun doing it together. You will see some of the benefits immediately and they will just continue to increase over time. You won’t be disappointed! My first yoga experience was at Santa Monica College in the early 90s and that semester made me fall in love with yoga.

Over the years later in life when I became a regular yoga student I was lucky to be inspired by so many amazing instructors whose classes I would attend. I just knew I needed to be a yoga instructor. At the moment it is just me but I have thought about bringing in an instructor or two. I am trying to grow my business where I can handle and control it, I know the experience I want my students to have and that is extremely important to me. So currently I am focused on growing slowly and maintaining the best level of instruction and service.

Exercise creates endorphins also known as the happy hormone so whether someone is coming to me for a challenging yoga flow or a little more subdued low impact or gentle yoga class, I can help you feel better. The benefits of exercise are numerous: Stress Relief, lower blood pressure, control diabetes, disease prevention, improved mood better and better sleep just to mention a few. I like to focus on mobility, creating classes that help everyday function and movement become easier. Weight lifting builds bone density. Balance helps prevent falls. Exercise is going to help tone your body and can help you lose weight. There is a myriad of reasons people decide to take class but overall, I think just feeling better and being part of something is what keeps people coming back for more. I believe the encouragement and motivation I bring to class will help you with whatever benefit you are striving toward. I do have offer a Special. First class is Free for anyone who mentions this Article or I will offer a 20 minute Private Class to give them a taste of what I offer and help them get set up on Zoom. I have gift certificates on sale for the month and an apparel purchase comes with a matching tote. I also offer corporate wellness and for the true yoga lovers, I do private yoga parties which is an amazing way to celebrate your special occasion with friends. If you haven’t been to a yoga party give it a try! I am open to in person classes as long as they are outdoors and physically distanced. Music is a huge part of my classes and I can’t wait to share all of this with you! Thank you so much for allowing me to share my story. This is truly an honor. I am always happy to chat online, via email or by phone. SOUTH BOUND COFFEE BY ADRIANA 1. Introduce yourself and tell us a little about “You”. My name is Adriana and I am owner/ barista at Southbound Coffee. I am a graduate of Texas State University with a degree in Electronic Media. I have no prior experience in business or coffee and I am 100% self taught. 2. Tell us about your Business/Product. Southbound Coffee is a mobile coffee trailer serving the southside of San Antonio since 2019. Southbound Coffee is female driven and focuses on cultura through showcasing products and flavors that are familiar to the Latinx community. We pride ourselves in providing unique specialty drinks made with fresh ingredients. 3. When you started the Business? Southbound Coffee officially opened in April of 2019 4. Why did you start your Business? I saw that there was a need for specialty coffee on the southside and decided to impulsively start a business in which I had no knowledge in. Although I had no knowledge in coffee, I did have plenty of hospitality experience since I’ve worked in restaurants for 11+ years. I believe running a business is more than just product knowledge but instead customer relations. It's about building a connection and making people feel welcomed. 5. What is the main message or purpose of your Business? Southbound Coffee’s purpose is to provide unique specialty drinks made with fresh ingredients that are familiar to the Latinx community. 6. Who or what Inspired you to do what you do? I’ve always been a bit of an outcast/loner and a fan of the “punk rock” community which tends to preach a “do-it-yourself” mentality. I think that was my biggest inspiration, to be able to build something from the bottom up and not have to listen to anyone else. 31

7. Do you have a Team or Staff? Typically it is only myself running it but on the weekends i get help from my niece or a couple of other women. I like to staff young women because I want to serve as a role model and if not that at least give them a chance to learn something new. I see myself in a lot of the young women I staff and I just want the best for them. 8. How can you help others through your Business? I believe that coffee is more than just coffee. When I decided to open up my business I decided that I wanted to open up in a location that is typically underserved and where, quite honestly, not many other coffee businesses would think ideal. The purpose behind it was that i wanted to provide something different for this community that could work as a space where families, friends and others alike could come together in their neighborhood. I’ve hosted a few school supplies drives and linked up with other businesses to give out free boxes of food in the community. I guess what I'm trying to say is that coffee brings people together and by providing a space where people come together, I hope that my business can be where conversations start and ideas are made to better the community.

9. How can someone get in contact with you for more information? The best way to contact me is through social media more specifically through Instagram messages or through email. Phone: 2105448516 Email: southboundcoffee210@gmail.com Social Media Links: Instagram: @southboundcoffee210 Facebook: @southbounfcoffee210 10. Any Special Offers? We offer student and military discounts 11. Is there is anything else you would like to share? We currently are looking for a new permanent home but for the month of January we plan to do pop ups around town. To stay updated on location please follow our social media for times and location.

"I HOPE THAT MY BUSINESS CAN BE WHERE CONVERSATIONS START AND IDEAS ARE MADE TO BETTER THE COMMUNITY."

I have always wanted to or have known I needed to own my own business, be my own boss, but hey you know life gets in the way, so it has taken a little longer than I would have liked. Honestly, I did not mean to even start this kind of business but turns out I really like what I do and from what folks say, I am kind of good at it.

I was a Manager at one of the busiest gas stations in San Antonio for the last 2.5 years, which was formerly known as Nooners’s, and sometimes people are a lot to deal with especially when you are on the clock and must remain professional no matter what they are throwing at you, (literally) especially since the pandemic hit! One day after dealing with yet another stressful situation with an irate customer, a joke “No Karen’s Only Kesha’s” was made, and my besssssfrannnn bugged me for a good two months to put that “No Karen’s Only Kesha’s” on a shirt! So, I finally did, and the orders just kept growing from 10-20-30-40-50, so I just decided to buy all the equipment and put it on a shirt and since October 11, 2020, FamousKGraphics has been making any and every kind of Custom-made shirts! Slowly but surely, also introducing new products! With this business, we will do nothing but share love, respect, encouragement, motivation and hopes of prosperity for everyone of all shapes, sizes, and colors. We all just want to grow, and we should, together, not apart. Anyone can be who they want to be, go where they want to go, see what they want to see and do what they want to do, but you must remember it is all about being you. Love you and do you so you can do everything and anything you want. It is possible. Just be like Kesha, do not give up on you. I have been blessed with so many great opportunities in my life. I am a work horse so I can learn to love any job, but first and foremost I have to say my besssssfrannnnn RED aka IDAMARIE aka Da’Marie, bugging the ever-living day out of me, every waking moment of the day for a little over two months, talking about “hey did you put it on a shirt yet” inspired me to begin what I do now! But hey when someone believes in you and believes in something you do; you have to take that chance right? I love that guy RED, he is my bessssfrannnn. Then I must give it my right hand, never lets a phone call go to voicemail and only does not answer the texts if she is not awake. My best friend of 13 years, she sure has held me down and knows the blood sweat and tears that goes into everything I do! She inspires me in so many aspects in life, every day just to do better! Even if it is curving the font a little more and of course my family inspires me. Family is everything and without them I would be nothing and nowhere!

The only reason I even want to become successful or have lots of money is simply to help so many humans and animals! I probably would already be rich if I did not help so much but I love to help others! It is the best feeling in the world to me, just to make someone smile. For a second, maybe it lasts all month. Who knows, maybe I changed someone’s whole life??? And there is NO better feeling than that! With this business who knows, maybe I can help by putting breast care awareness on a shirt? Maybe a “help wanted” sign for someone’s store front window? Advertising for a missing person on a car? Definitely some stylish mask!! Endless possibilities! Money coming into my business not only helps me and my family live, I AM A GIVER, so really at the end of the day you are giving back to someone or some animal in need in so many ways! I attended The University of Texas at San Antonio on a music scholarship, destined to become a choir director. Life, however, took a series of unexpected turns for me, and my direction shifted. I met the love of my life, got married, started a family and over the years tried to find my way back to my calling. I never finished music school, but I still managed to find my way back to my passion and use it in a way that was a perfect fit for me. God had a plan. Years later, using the knowledge and experience I had previously acquired, I took a job teaching private voice lessons & children’s choir at a local music and arts academy in our hometown. It was 2014 and the movie “Frozen” had been released and the craze began. My students started with the nickname “Elsa”, and I soon realized why due to my striking resemblance to that character. Ironically enough, I have always had a love for Disney music in particular, and the princess characters that were so inspirational to me when I was young. It was what originally sparked my interest in singing. So naturally, a new idea began to grow, and quickly evolved into a business of my own, where I could share that love with others.

I have a wonderful team of kindhearted, talented performers whom I

have had the absolute pleasure of working with. They have brought so much to this company! My husband is also my right-hand man, who has been there from the start of this business and has always supported me in everything I do. We help others by bringing joy and happiness to children and adults alike, which makes such a positive impact on people who may need that joy the most. We also love giving back to our community in any way we can. Glass Slippers Gives is the voluntary side of the business where we participate in charitable events such as volunteering for community events, fundraisers, and hospital visits. We also deliver yarn wigs to children in need through the non-profit organization, The Magic Yarn Project. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic this year, we have been blessed with the opportunity to evolve in different ways and offer even more to our clients! We now offer ZOOM birthday parties, Video chat

sessions, pre-recorded video messages and socially distanced character visits! We would like to dedicate this article to a very special little girl that we had the joy of knowing. Her name is Jenysis Estrella Casillas. On May 5th, 2020, she lost her battle with DIPG, a rare form of brain cancer that takes too many innocent young lives. If you know of a child in need that we may be able to help give back to in any way, please visit our website and fill out the form on our “about section. My name is Diana Charo and I am a Professional Business Designer, I help others incorporate healthy living, healthy finances and peace of mind into a single business plan, and the results are amazing for success in every area of life! I'm like a doctor and banker rolled up in one! My objective is show people how to restore their health and their finances. My business and product has been in existence for 46 years with a company from Japan. Japan is one of the top countries in longevity; it does not compare to any other similar product. Our product is simply Alkaline water and made through electrolysis by running your home tap water through genuine 90% titanium plates and electricity. Most of the Alkaline waters sold in stores locally are made Alkaline with either chemicals or with Sodium Bicarbonate (baking soda). The newer ionizers made in the United States are made with 70% titanium plates or even metal plates. Anything less than 90% titanium may cause heart attacks. Our bodies are not receptive to metal. By running the tap water

through electrolysis it will breakdown the water into small molecules in order to enter through the cells of our body. As it enters the cells, it removes toxins and boost your immune system to allow the body to heal itself. I started this Business 6 years ago in December of 2014.After I retiring from Civil Service after 34 years, I had no thought of ever working again, much less starting a Business. I was praying for something part-time just to earn a little spending money. One day, my cousin called me, with such excitement, claiming that she found our Financial Freedom Business. Their patented compensation plan is phenomenal. As I started helping people restore their health by getting ionizers in their homes; my income started increasing. Most importantly when I saw people's health being restored, the satisfaction outweighed the income. Yes, the income is great, but my passion grew when I saw the water help people restore their health, the way God intended their health to be.

If you take a little time to see what you kind of water you are putting into your body. In time, your body will react to what you are drinking. Most bottle waters are made with plain tap water. Tap water consist of chlorine to kill parasites, though some parasites are learning to live in chlorinated water. In addition, lye is added to the tap waters to makes the water slightly alkaline so the water pipes will not rust as fast, never mind what this can do to our bodies. All tap water is recycled. Any water that goes through a drain to the waste water system is recycled and then 300 chemicals are added to the water to make it drinkable. Now for the bottle waters, consider the plastic that make up the bottles. It takes 20,000 chemicals to create plastic. Prior to bottling waters, the water is boiled up to 180° or so to kill bacteria and then poured into the plastic bottles. With the water that hot, the plastic will tend to leach into the water. Plastic is not good for our body. Several people inspired me to do this business but one person in

particular comes to mind. I will never forget this young man. His name was Kenny. One of the things we do for people is to share water with them for 2-3 weeks to see if they feel a difference in their bodies. I met Kenny, through a mutual friend who asked me share water with him because he had a large tumor mass growing near his colon. When I met him, he could walked slowly to my car. When he was ready for a water refill, I drove up to his house and he came out swinging the empty water jug with a little skip in his walk. He had a big smile on his face and said he felt different. After a few refills, he had a doctor's report and the mass had decreased significantly. He was so excited, he wanted to buy an ionizer but had too many medical expenses. I ended up sharing water with Kenny for a few months, hoping he would eventually buy his ionizer. When he lost his battle, this inspired me to try harder to reach as many people as possible to show them the disadvantage of drinking bottle waters. This also helped me to start my second business, Debt Elimination.

I have a wonderful team, I work hard educating them as I was trained and educated. When they have a new client, will help them with a personal or group water presentation. Lately, our presentations have been done via Zoom or 3-Way Calls. They are very effective.

My business can help others change their drinking water and change their bodies from an acidic ill stage to an Alkaline healthy stage. I will share water with new clients for 2-3 weeks Free In February, I will be one of the vendors at the Schertz Civic Center at 1400 Schertz Parkway in Schertz Tx, I would love to meet you! If you need a personal water presentation, please contact me to schedule a time. If you know anyone with a health issue from acid reflux to cancer, I would love to help you. I can also help you cut your home mortgage and debt down to 1/2 or 2/3 of time. Get a free financial analysis.
