Get Fit to Feel Great with Gyrotonic® By Jacqi Leyva-Hill, M.ED.
Hello beautiful readers! Hopefully everyone is excited to celebrate the new year and attend another year of fun get togethers with family and friends. As I gear up for these events, I notice that my stretchy pants don’t stretch as much as they used to, so I am EXCITED to announce that i am restarting my fitness journey by renewing my license to teach Gyrotonic®. What is Gyrotonic® you may ask? Well, it is a type of exercise method that combines elements of yoga, tai chi, dance, pilates and gymnastics. The best way that I like to describe it is likd 3D pilates. It involves flowing, circular movements that aim to increase flexibility, strength, and overall body awareness. Gyrotonic exercises are typically performed on specialized equipment called a Gyrotonic®️ Tower designed to support these fluid movements. The floor mat version without specialized equipment or just a chair is called Gyrokinesis®️. It’s a holistic approach to fitness and wellbeing that focuses on improving one’s range of motion and promoting overall physical health. Many famous individuals in the entertainment, sports, and fitness industries have been known to use Gyrotonic as part of their fitness routines. Some celebrities and athletes who have endorsed or practiced Gyrotonic®️ include Tiger Woods, Julianne Moore, Madonna, and Andy Murray. Gyrotonic was developed by Juliu Horvath, a former ballet dancer from Hungary. He created this exercise method in the 1980s as a way to rehabilitate his own injuries and to enhance his overall physical well-being. Juliu Horvath’s background in dance and his understanding of movement contributed to the development of the Gyrotonic®️Tower along with other specialized equpment which has since gained popularity as a fitness and rehabilitation method.
5. Stress reduction: The mindful, flowing movements can promote relaxation and reduce stress. 6. General fitness: Gyrotonic can be adapted to various fitness goals, from beginners to athletes. 7. Increased body awareness: It helps individuals develop a better understanding of their bodies. 8. Balance and coordination: Gyrotonic can improve balance and coordination. Overall, Gyrotonic®️ and Gyrokinesis®️ can be beneficial for those seeking a holistic approach to fitness and well-being. However, it’s always a good idea to consult with your doctor before starting this or any other workout program. Once you get a green light, contact a certified Gyrotonic instructor to determine if it’s suitable for your specific needs and goals. The good news is that the eauipment is back in San Antonio & I am restarting my Gyrotonic®️fitness journey since i had paused it after the shutdown to focus on my loan origination and financial planning for homeownership. So if you have any questions contact me. Until next month, Healthy ((hugs)), Jacqi of Jacqi’s

SA FILMS UPRISING PT 2: “A SILENT FLIGHT MEDIA FILM LUCHADOR LEGACY” As Jesse was told to never give up from his friend’s dad and mentor, he knew that all this struggle of not knowing who he was inside was inside him Lowriders Vs Zombies from Space - Jessica Martinez all this time and the warrior was ready to let out into his upcoming (Director of Photography), David F. Mendez (director), challenged match! “He wants to fight for your legacy. It will be mask for Matteo Caballero – (2nd Camera Op), Jingtong “Charlie” mask, because this was what your dad lived for” is a scene from one of Zhao (Second Assistant Director), Silent Media Films founded by David Mendez. While this recent film “Sacred Mask” in the likes of old wrestling superhero “El Santo” explores beyond being the typical superhero, but about the reality origin story of a Luchador and his struggle in trying to break the chain of leaving in a shadow, which takes place in many wrestling family lives that pass on the mask generation to generation. What does a team of military veterans and filming have in similarities to making a movie? Before we continue on this story, let’s honor and say thank you to all our military veterans who served and made their difference to our country. While serving in a field artillery unit in the US Army, David did what many soldiers did and sacrifice including serving with deployment three times. As he came back to the states and retired of his duties, David still having a missing link in his life decided to pursue his childhood fascination back in San Antonio, Texas and revive a local lowrider magazine known back in the 1990’s, known as “Vajito Magazine.” While David remained busy in the car show community on tours across the nation. He decided to call it quits a couple years later due to making the decision of spending more time with his family. This decision gave him time to think and open his next chapter in life as the itch of more challenges came into his Lowriders Vs Zombies from Space - Victor Galindo heart. David also decided to pursue a college degree. (camera assistant), Matteo Caballero – (2nd Camera Op) As the next project, David decided to gather a few military veteran friends and group together as not a social function but as a team for unleashing a new film company. While many local film companies may struggle in leadership positions, with the new Silent Flight Media company, that was no problem due to their past military careers in experiencing teamwork situations and resolving issues as a team. From the camera man/women to the video editor, everyone knew their task and mission. The first film that David wrote of was in tribute to his favorite childhood genre! “I grew up not with dvd’s but with vhs and my childhood included lots of hours watching 1980’s horror, including Italian Zombie gore, George Romero, and Stephen King. I was always also impressed with the make-up and special effects of Tom Savini and Full Moon Pictures. I knew I had to give San Antonio a horror picture to remember as not only a film but a cult classic!” David also decided to go back and add a twist to his roots and passion of lowriders. His first film project would be called “Lowriders vs Zombies From Space” and David went to the heart of San Antonio and 20190801 BTS of sacred Mask - Max Castellanos (Jesse/Tecolote recruited some of the well known car clubs the city had including Old de Oro), Emma Perez-Treviño (Mamma Pita), Jingtong “Charlie” School C.C., 1st Impresssions, Rollerz Only, and many others and also Zhao (Second Assistant Director), Alejandro Jimenez starring the legendary lowrider C-Loc who put on anpassed on a couple (Sound/Editing), David F. incredible performance but unfortunately passed on a couple years ago. As filming began at local spots across San Antonio including the historical VFW Post 4700, the filming took very long hours of not just stunts and acting, but editing. The crew being ex- military, were driven to finish their mission! The film had a successful release and launch and can now be viewed on Amazon and Tubi. During the next season, Silent Media decided to work on their next project but was put on halt, because of the Covid season. After Covid, David and the crew headed to work hard on their next film project called “The Sacred Mask: El Secreto de la Mascara” This drama-action film would hit a different note and in the likes of” El Santo” would hit the audience with the insight life of a family legacy of a luchador. While this film also included many hours of hard work also, the crew did go through their share of hardships, causing a very close cancellation, but with the encouragement from his wife, Stephanie David continued filming. David had faced due to the realistic wresting scenes filmed at the Hybrid School Wrestling , some injuries and his family pet decided to chew almost half of the film footage. The filming continued and had a successful release this year with a sold out screener and a statewide tour. The film is set to be viewed by many and David’s hopes of not only views, but of sharing the message of this film in living in family legacy is priceless! You can view” Lowriders vs Zombies from Space” still on Tubi and Amazon Prime Video and after the screening Tour, David wishes to also release “The Sacred Mask” on streaming film services. His future includes more films in progress, including a possible sequel to LVZ and a possible drama/ horror film. David would like to thank all his hard-working film crew including all who have supported his films. David would also like to thank his wife Jennifer Mendez, who has done so much in being his life coach by keeping him motivated and believing in him even on his darkest days. Be ready San Antonio for more future films coming out of our city! You can catch on Silent Flight Media info on their Facebook page.

Music entertainer Jennifer Lynne Bowen, artistically known as JENNY B is an energetic and charismatic singer/performer based in San Antonio, TX. At a very young age, Jenny knew in her little heart that the path of music was one she would follow to the stars!! With her family making waves in the 90's with their music careers in the Texas Tejano scene, she was always around music and the excitement that came with it. She looked up to many stars while growing up, one being the Queen herself, Selena Quintanilla-Perez. Through Selena, Jenny was able to learn not only how to be a great singer and performer but also how to be a humbled and loving artist with passion and drive to be the best.

In 2008, Jenny would release her first project with her family, a Spanish album called "Quince Cero Nueve". This album gave Jenny her first experience in the studio, and she has never looked back since. Jenny performed throughout the city of San Antonio performing along with her family until 2012. She graduated High School and was married with her husband Marshall. By 2015 she had her son Marshall Bowen II, which she took time away from music to focus on her family. Las Vegas Trip - Prospanica 2023 Graduation is quickly approaching. I can still remember the first day of Graduate School as if it were yesterday. I can also remember how intimidated I was that weekend of orientation and realizing that following Monday would be my first day. Eighteen months have gone by super-fast and I’ve noticed that Graduate School is easier than Undergraduate School.
Prospanica student members make a difference on their campuses and in their communities, and prepare themselves for excellence in their career, their community involvement, and their personal commitments. Furthermore, students can demonstrate leadership ability, promote multicultural awareness, and develop or enhance important skills including time management, project management, communications, organization, planning and budgeting. The skills and experience gained in a student-run University Chapter role is what employers value. In addition, you learn the professional skills you need to succeed in business, and get real life, hands-on experience that you won’t find in a classroom. https://prospanica.org/students/# Gilbert Gonzales gilbertgofficial@gmail.com
I recently been selected by our Graduate School at the University of North Texas at Dallas to attend the 2023 Prospanica Conference & Career Expo in Las Vegas, Nevada for the month of October. Prospanica offers highly engaging sessions to take to further your professional development coupled with opportunities to make meaningful professional and personal connections. Prospanica draws top Hispanic talent from our network of undergraduate and graduate students and professionals with culturally relevant development experience designed to educate, inspire, and connect. Overall, the Conference does not just deliver opportunity, it creates community. For 35 years, Prospanica has advocated for the advancement of Hispanic professionals, finding innovative avenues for members of our community to achieve their full potential by providing scholarships, networking and career opportunities, professional development tools and community access. Prospanica commemorates 35 years of leading change for Hispanic professional achievement by celebrating the power of collaboration with partners at its annual Conference & Career Expo in Las Vegas. Tip Off to Greatness! Many people have been waiting the long-awaited hunting season. Not many know at that same time, your Texas Seraphim has begun a new season. Season opener was one to behold. Well, I aim to explore a new under rated sporting event. ABA basketball, that’s right American Basketball Association. At one point and time the ABA was the preferred competitor to the NBA. As money and corporate sponsors have decided we now have to fend for ourselves. This season opener had the Texas Seraphim over taking the Lonestar crusaders 130 to 117. What an exciting brand. The display of professionalism offered family fun entertainment at its best. Along with Live stream media offering a 20-foot led screen, what and exciting view. Leding the charge was Austin Cox, out of Austin, Texas with 28 points, 10 rebounds, and 6 steals. Mayjic Howard also from Austin, Texas gave a quality effort with 18 points, 3 rebounds, 5 assists, 1 steal. Follow by local talent Marlon Williams out of San Antonio, Texas who played with Our Lady of the Lake, also providing 17 points, 5 rebounds 1 assist and 1 steal. The determination and athleticism were on full display. Come one and come all this is just a little flare to the whole experience. The Texas Seraphim needs sponsors and a quality fan base so if you dare, come to the next home game, and join the journey. If you should have any desire to help, please contact 210-685-9110 or email adamsalyer@yahoo.com. Now let this season take form and come join the excitement.

Between 1968 and 1972, Lennon and Ono collaborated on many works, including a trilogy of avant-garde albums, several more films, his solo debut John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band, and the international top-10 singles "Give Peace a Chance", "Instant Karma!", "Imagine", and "Happy Xmas (War Is Over)". Moving to New York City in 1971, his criticism of the Vietnam War resulted in a three-year deportation attempt by the Nixon administration. Lennon and Ono separated from 1973 to 1975, during which time he produced Harry Nilsson's album Pussy Cats. He also had chart-topping collaborations with Elton John ("Whatever Gets You thru the Night") and David Bowie ("Fame"). Following a five-year hiatus, Lennon returned to music in 1980 with the Ono collaboration Double Fantasy. He was murdered by a Beatles fan, Mark David Chapman, three weeks after the album's release. As a performer, writer or co-writer, Lennon had 25 number-one singles in the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Double Fantasy, his bestselling album, won the 1981 Grammy Award for Album of the Year.[3] That year, Lennon won the Brit Award for Outstanding Contribution to Music. In 2002, Lennon was voted eighth in a BBC history poll of the 100 Greatest Britons. Rolling Stone ranked him the fifth-greatest singer and 38th greatest artist of all time. He was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame (in 1997) and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (twice, as a member of the Beatles in 1988 and as a solo artist in 1994).

John Winston Ono Lennon was an English singer, songwriter, musician and peace activist who gained worldwide fame as the founder, co-songwriter, co-lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist of the Beatles. Lennon's work included music, writing, drawings, and film. His songwriting partnership with Paul McCartney remains the most successful in history. Born in Liverpool, Lennon became involved in the skiffle craze as a teenager. In 1956, he formed The Quarrymen, which evolved into the Beatles in 1960. Sometimes called "the smart Beatle", Lennon initially was the group's de facto leader, a role he gradually ceded to McCartney. Through his songwriting in the Beatles, Lennon embraced a myriad of musical influences, initially writing and cowriting rock and pop-oriented hit songs in the band's early years, then later incorporating experimental elements into his compositions in the latter half of the Beatles' career as his songs became known for their increasing innovation. Lennon soon expanded his work into other media by participating in numerous films, including How I Won the War, and authoring In His Own Write and A Spaniard in the Works, both collections of nonsense writings and line drawings. Starting with "All You Need Is Love", his songs were adopted as anthems by the anti-war movement and the larger counterculture of the 1960s. In 1969, he started the Plastic Ono Band with his second wife, the multimedia artist Yoko Ono, held the two-week-long anti-war demonstration Bed-ins for Peace, and left the Beatles to embark on a solo career.

Finding a Path to Resolving the Israel vs Hamas Conict! By Roger Guevara
Nota: (Los Judíos y árabes son medio Hermanos del mismo padre. Abraham era el padre de Isaac y Ishmael. La madre de Isaac era Sarah que era judía y la madre de Ishmael era Hagar que era árabe) Introduction: The Israel vs. Hamas conflict, a long-standing and deeply entrenched struggle, has brought immense suffering to the people of the region for decades. It is a complex issue with deep historical, political, and social roots. However, the quest for a peaceful resolution remains an imperative. This article will explore the conflict's origins and propose ways to resolve it peacefully. Understanding The Conflict (No se les olvide lo de ariba.) The Israel vs. Hamas conflict primarily revolves around competing national and territorial claims in the region. Israel, established in 1948, sees itself as a homeland for Jewish people. Palestinians, on the other hand, seek an independent state in territories currently under Israeli control. Hamas, a Palestinian political and military organization, has been a central player in this conflict and is considered a terrorist organization by some countries. Root Causes To achieve a peaceful resolution, it is crucial to understand the root causes of the conflict: 1. Territorial Disputes: The ongoing struggle for control of land in the region, including the West Bank and Gaza Strip, remains a primary issue. 2. Refugee Crisis: Millions of Palestinian refugees and their descendants continue to live in impoverished conditions, creating a humanitarian crisis. 3. Security Concerns: Israel's security concerns, given its history of conflict with neighboring countries and non-state actors, shape its policies and responses. 4. Religious and Cultural Tensions: Jerusalem, a city sacred to multiple religions, is a focal point of conflict. Paths to Peace Resolving the Israel vs. Hamas conflict is challenging, but not impossible. Here are some steps that can pave the way towards a peaceful solution: NOV 2023
1. Two-State Solution: The internationally recognized two-state solution envisions an independent Palestine alongside a secure Israel. Negotiations should resume with a focus on this solution. 2. Hamas Reconciliation: If peace is to be achieved, it is essential to involve all Palestinian factions, including Hamas, in negotiations. This may require intra-Palestinian reconciliation efforts. 3. International Mediation: A neutral third party, such as the United Nations or a coalition of nations, can play a pivotal role in mediating negotiations and ensuring both sides are committed to the peace process. 4. Economic Development: Investments in economic development in the Palestinian territories can help alleviate the suffering of the people and build a foundation for lasting peace. 5. Humanitarian Aid: Addressing the immediate needs of Palestinian refugees and improving living conditions in Gaza and the West Bank is a humanitarian imperative. 6. Security Cooperation: Both sides need to cooperate on security issues to ensure a safe environment for their citizens. International monitors can help oversee such arrangements. 7. People-to-People Initiatives: Encourage dialogue and understanding between Israelis and Palestinians through educational and cultural exchanges, fostering trust and mutual respect. Conclusion The Israel vs. Hamas conflict is a deeply rooted, multifaceted issue that has defied resolution for decades. However, the human suffering it has caused makes it imperative to continue the quest for peace. The key lies in recognizing the legitimate aspirations of both Israelis and Palestinians and finding common ground to build a just and lasting peace. International cooperation, diplomacy, and a commitment to dialogue are essential to achieve this long-awaited resolution. Religion should be respected like Race and Gender. It is all about respect. There are faults in religions past. After all, God did not create any religion. Religion is man made. We can argue and study and read and write and criticize and at the end, it is all about respect. Jacob ‘s success is not easily laid back as he does have a small crew on the island and has been faced with pirates in which Jacob has led to hire two armed guards on the island with high tech equipment to get a warning of any unwanted guests on ships looking to steal lobster goods. He does claim some get warned and if they return their ship which can lawfully be sunk, because of the island being private property. Jacob’s life has been dedicated to the lobster business with him making many business trips to Belize in order to ensure the lobster remains with an affordable price, here in the states as he has not only proven but has decided to make a festival to celebrate his new dream of having everyone being able to enjoy some exotic lobster straight from the exotic sea across the world in having a day of fun with a soundtrack of live music!
“A LOBSTER’S TAIL” The Local Lobster Adventures of Jacob Dominguez! When is the last time that you have eaten a nice dinner of lobster before? Have you ever wondered how it is transported from sea to your dinner plate. Little does one know that a lobster can tell you an adventure full of avoiding traps, processing, sharks, and even pirates. Time to let Jacob Dominguez lay a lobster tail on us all! It was a nice summer day in Belize, when the Dominguez family decided to go on a vacation trip to get a change of scenery. As Mr. Jacob Dominguez and his family arrived to a shore, as they relaxed, Jacob noticed a couple teenage fishermen catching what seemed to be shrimp and also lobsters. Jacob decided to get closer to get a better view, as he got closer he introduced himself and hoped to join them as he felt fascinated with this new art. Jacob was introduced and spent time with them as he brought them back to the shore with his family to socialize and exchange information through social media to keep in touch with Jacob’s new friends, which continued for some time in which Jacob became interested in not being a spectator, but in being a participant in fully learning the art himself.
Jacob will be hosting for the first time ever the “San Antonio Lobster Festival” which is scheduled for November 26 at the Smoke Bar downtown from 12pm to 10 pm with many musical live bands and a live dj hosted by TV personality Ernie Zuniga and much more added to the lineup. The admission is free topped on with the already affordable exotic lobster affordable prices. Look for a future Lobster dining francise coming soon from Jacob and catch him on TikTok, Instagram and Facebook under @thecaribbeanlobsterguy.
After some years, Jacob contacts the young fisherman, and after a long conversation they give Jacob a chance of the business by offering him fifty lobster traps built with the fishermen managing them. In 2021 as the season of the Lobster went by, unfortunately Jacob only saw 30% profit. A season and a half later, Jacob decided to go to Belize himself and make 50 more traps. What seemed to be a double on success, became a triple on disaster, when Belize was hit by a huge hurricane ripping much of the shore including 90% of the traps. Jacob was discouraged in disbelief, but determined in not giving up. As Jacob returned to Belize luck seemed to find the best in him as a local diver, who he ran into told him of the biggest local producer of lobsters in the country, who also owned three islands in the Caribbean Sea and was looking to sell one of his islands to also rebuild from the hurricane. Jacob immediately jumped on the opportunity. Jacob met with the lobster producer and after a good conversation, Jacob became the proud owner of his own island, out three hours in the Caribbean sea. With 400 traps already set in, Jacob added 600 more. The business started with Jacob recruiting a team of divers and a few workers. The beginning involved selling to the local Belizean fisheries, but that wouldn’t last long as Jacob was determined to cut out the lobster industry of the 5 to 6 middle business processing stations before landing on the dinner plate, which impacted much of the high cost of a lobster to the public. Jacob decided to build his own processing plant with his own packaging and shipping to not only in Belize, but to also fly out to the states. NOV 2023

Placido Salazar Receives Long Overdue Recognition! Story and photos by Ramón Hernández It was 1949 when Placido Salazar stood behind a microphone and made his debut as a professional singer. However, kudos, certificates of accomplishments, plaques, or other awards for his achievements eluded him. Last month, 74 years after that day, thanks to StreetTalk magazine publisher Jaimé Vidal, Placido was finally honored with his first Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution, support and dedication to the arts and entertainment industry. Why have organizations and music associations failed to recognize his accomplishments? The most obvious and painful reason is because most conjuntos are named after their founding musician and not after the vocalist. And the conjunto’s namesake does second vocals; or sometimes does not sing at all. Not only that, although the conjunto’s vocalist’s image is listed in the credits, his image is rarely predominantly featured on the album covers. A good example is Los Musicales de David Lee Garza, originally formed as El Conjunto de David Lee Garza with his father Tony in December 1968. Both sang, then they added Manuel Gutiérrez as lead vocalist. He was replaced by Roberto Barrera when they changed their name to David Lee Garza y Su Grupo Musical in 1977. Everyone knows the ensuing lineup of lead vocalists, Ramiro “Ram” Herrera in January 1980, and Emilio Navaira in April 1983. Next came Óscar G in April 1987. The list goes on and on. The beauty of it all is that David Lee’s conjunto served as their boot camp, their training ground, and their springboard into going solo and becoming stars and amassing numerous awards in their own right. Such was not the case for Placido. Another example is Ricky Naranjo y Los Gamblers, whose lead vocalist is Rubén Naranjo with the bajo sexto player doing second vocals. Ricky does not sing. Yet each award they earned is made out to Ricky Naranjo y Los Gamblers. These two examples are not intended to disrespect either bandleader, they just serve to illustrate what happened to Placido Salazar who won first prize at every talent contest in Edcouch, Elsa, Weslaco, Mercedes, Harlingen, Edinburg, Alamo, Cine Rex in McAllen, and San Benito,Texas, where he went up against Baldemar Huerta and won. Balde later went on to become known as The BeBop Kid and Freddy Fender. As fate would have it, El Conjunto de Pedro Ayala backed up all the contest participants. In addition to $25 cash at a later contest, the winner got to record a demo tape ({Mala Movida) on Cristobal García’s Discos Del Valle. As Placido recalls, “Don Pedro liked my performance so much that he hired me to sing, emcee and play guitar in his conjunto – and I was only eight years old – performing alongside Lorenzo Caballero, guitar; Espirio Aguilar, tololoche (upright bass), Abelito Pérez, alto saxophone and Santos on drums. And whenever Santos or Espiro went to the restroom, I filled in on drums, or stood on a chair to sing and play tololoche. “As the featured vocalist, I would sing atop an elevated platform on a slab behind Lupe Sáenz’s store, then known as Patio Sáenz.” By the time Placido celebrated his 10th birthday, with Tómas Ortíz as a mentor, the future recipient of a Presidential Unit Citation, a Bronze Star Medal and a Purple Heart had become a budding songwriter; plus, the promoter that booked Los Alegres de Terán, Los Donñenos and other conjuntos to perform at Patio Sáenz, or the school auditorium for church and/or Boy Scout fundraisers. Placido’s first-hand account of picking cotton and performing on weekends easily translates to a history book on the Rio Grande Valley’s conjunto music history since he knew them all. Coupled with the fact that this highly decorated Vietnam veteran went on to become an actor, a record distributor, a radio and television personality, this NOV 2023

on to become an actor, a record distributor, a radio and television personality, this writer found it odd that he had yet to be honored. The answer was in my research of Pedro Ayala’s recording; and it was the fact that Ayala never featured any one of his vocalists. All his recordings were instrumentals. Thus, there is no proof of Placido’s tenure with his conjunto. Thus, the last time I saw Lupe Sáenz Jr. - whose father owned Patio Sáenz- at this year’s Tejano Roots Hall of Fame ceremony in Alice, this writer questioned him on why his childhood friend had never been recognized as a pioneer in the valley’s late 1940s / early 1950’s conjunto scene. However, it was very noisy, and I really don’t know if he heard what I was saying. They say good things come to those who wait. So, miracle of miracles, two weeks after Jaimé Vidal gave him The Streettalk Lifetime Achievement award, on Sunday, October 29, Lupe Sáenz Jr., the founder and president of the South Texas Conjunto Association in the Rio Grande Valley held an awards ceremony at VFW Post 9186 during which he awarded Placido a STCA/KED Plaque for his outstanding contributions to Texas Conjunto. The second recipient was posthumously awarded to Jesse Borrego Sr. and accepting for their father were actor/singer/dancer Jesse Borrego Jr., Marina Borrego and James Borrego.

WHAT’S A SCORPIO? November is the month of the Scorpio. The sign's rein starts in the final days of October and covers just about all of the following month. Known as one of the more polarizing Zodiac signs, Scorpios are often misunderstood. Scorpio is the eighth sign of the zodiac (October 23–November 21), and it's represented by the scorpion. A fixed water sign ruled by Pluto in modern astrology and Mars in ancient astrology, Scorpio (or Vrishchika in Vedic astrology) energy is mystical and mysterious. What makes this water sign unique is its distinctive venomous sting. Like their celestial spirit animal, the scorpion, Scorpios lie in wait and strike when least expected. Life is a game of chess for these calculating water signs, who are constantly plotting several steps ahead in order to orchestrate an eventual checkmate. This doesn't mean their intentions are necessarily nefarious. Scorpios simply know what they want and aren't afraid to work hard and play the long game to get it. Secretive, magnetic, and intensely sexual, the Scorpion has earned their intense rep. Encompassing Halloween and leading up to Thanksgiving, one of the busiest, most heartfelt, and occasionally family drama-packed times of the year is brought to you by Scorpio. The water sign is associated with a need to seek power and emanate intensity, reverence for elders and family in general, a willingness to swim in the depth of emotion, and dogged perseverance that's hard for just about any other sign to mirror. These traits are owed to Scorpio's co-ruling planets — yes, there are two — Mars, the planet of action, sex, strength, and courage, and Pluto, the planet of transformation, the underworld, life, death, and rebirth.

MELODIES OF TEXAS: PART II
A Musicology of the Lone Star State! By Don Mathis
The "Eyes of Texas" are upon you. Minstrel Shows, Movies, and Marching Bands; High School, Honky Tonks, and Juke Joints; Gospel Tents, Medicine Shows, and Vaudeville; Barrel Houses, Brothels, and Barbershops, all provided the training grounds for countless Texas musicians. Work Songs and Field Hollers, Hootnannies and House Parties, Corridors and Prison Blues, Schottische and Square Dance; Texas has them. XER in Villa Acuña, across the Rio Grande from Del Rio, Texas, was the Goat Gland Doctor Brinkley's first "border-blaster" radio station. And nearly every country music and hillbilly legend of the 1920s and 30s passed through its doors. Years later, the “X” was the base for Wolfman Jack, who spawned another generation of music superstars. But let’s go back to the early 30s for some of Dr. Brinkley’s guests. First, I want to listen to Gene Autry (born near Tioga) singing "South of the Border." And then Jimmie Rogers (died in Kerrville) talking about "Jimmie's Texas Blues." By the 1940s, Jazz and the Big Band sound was in, and Texas made its contributions to those genres as well.
I would be remis if I didn’t mention other country music legends, born in Texas (Kenny Rogers, Jimmy Dean, Lefty Frizzell, George Jones, Don Williams, Buck Owens, Jeannie C. Riley, George Strait) but since we’ve only got two hours for this program, get in the car with Roger Miller, the King of the Road, as we "DoWacka-Do." Texas has Soul. Let’s start off with some ‘BlueEyed Soul.’ Roy Head was a one-hit wonder for some, others may never have heard of him. But I think "Treat Her Right" deserves to be remembered in the annals of Rockabilly, of Funk, or something! Don’t forget the honking saxophone of Clifford Scott on Bill Doggett’s “Honky Tonk” in 1956. Do you remember that voice on 1968 radio? Hi everybody, I'm Archie Bell of the Drells, from Houston, Texas. We don't only sing but we dance just as good as we walk. In Houston, we just started a new dance called the "Tighten Up." I was a big fan of Sly and the Family Stone though it was years later I discovered Sylvester Stewart was born in Denton, TX. You can “Dance to the Music” he made, but I like his song for "Everyday People." OK, let’s go back to the roots of Rock. Some think California or New York was the birthplace of Rock & Roll. Mississippi and Louisiana can make a claim to fame as well. But the people in Lubbock make a strong case with Buddy Holly. Listen to his greatest hits album and you’ll see why Texas Rock will "Not Fade Away."
Bob Wills & the Texas Playboys epitomized the style of Western Swing "Across the Alley from the Alamo." Charlie Christian popularized electric guitar during the days he toured with the Benny Goodman Orchestra. Who is your favorite electric guitarist? Listen to "Swing to Bop," and One of the other musicians on the airplane The you may become a Christian Man. Day the Music Died was The Big Bopper from Houston. J.P. Richardson had hits with Gospel Music was a mainstay throughout the South "Running Bear" and "White Lightning," but he and Texas, influencing singers both Black and White. was most famous for "Chantilly Lace." The Stamps Quartet from Dallas were popular everywhere west of Florida and Elvis Presley idolized Don’t dare forget Roy Orbison with his them his whole life. The Stamps sang at the funeral of passionate voice, his complex song structures, his mother in 1958, at Presley’s Las Vegas and the dark, emotional ballads that he wrote. If you were listening performances, and at his funeral in 1977. If you get a to the radio in 1964, you will remember "Oh, Pretty Woman." chance, get some "Old Time Religion" with The Stamps Quartet. These songs with other blues and soul hits were played by Wolfman Jack on the “X,” You cannot talk about Texas music without going to the most powerful signal in North America the Country. Ernest Tubb, the Texas Troubadour, was in the mid-60s. Wolfman claimed birds one of the pioneers of country music. Barrio Gangs of the Past in San Anto!
Prominent cities are often characterized by their streets. Whether it’s the iconic passage known as Guadalupe St on the west side of San Antonio, or Military Dr. in the south side. In the 50’s and 60’s, growing up and hanging out in the barrios played a significant role in shaping the identity of our youth and cultura! The Pachuco culture in San Antonio is all but a memory, but it still lingers in many minds of our older citizens. I met with three of San Antonio’s oldest survivors of the barrio gangs in the westside. Reminiscing, in what better place than the westside’s oldest iconic eatery Ray’s Drive Inn on Guadalupe St. I sat down with Joe “Broadway” Gonzalez (66’ Edgewood), Luz Gallegos (64’Fox Tech), and Bobby Ochoa (64’Fox Tech). Ironically, we weren’t about selling drugs, or making money, it was more about protecting our streets, and our selves, Bobby Ochoa formally of the The Ghost Town Gang which extended from The Cassiano Creek, Rhodes Jr. High, la calle Barkley, and on to Saltillo Street.

“Back in those days we carried switch blades, and make shift Zip Guns”. I asked, what’s a Zip Gun? “It’s a gun shape wood frame base, with a cut portion of a car antenna to accommodate a 22.gun bullet, using rubber bands with a bolt as a trigger. like a sling shot Bobby said”. It was mostly used for defense. We were 14, and 15yrs, and you would be harassed or rolled if you didn’t join up Joe Gonzalez explained. After he decided to join he was given the nickname “Poor Devil”, and later changed to “El Diablo”, after proving himself and a broken nose. Joe Gonzales now known as “Broadway Joe” was part of the “Lake Gang” preference to the Elmendorf Lake on Commerce and 24th.

Rock Opera was in its infancy 50 years ago when Jesus Christ Superstar leapt from the stage to the screen. The music by Andrew Lloyd Webber covered the gamut from rock, folk, and blues to romantic ballads, classical, and jazz. The lyrics by Tim Rice pushed the plot forward by focusing on the psychology of the central characters. Theatrical props have been updated for this production but the story remains as relevant as ever. Find tickets at TobinCenter.org for Nov. 17 or 18, at the H-E-B Performance Hall. The “Cruel Summer” is over and now we’re almost “Back to December.” But the “Love Story” with The Music of Taylor Swift goes on as the Rock and Roll Playhouse presents an “Enchanted” performance during the “Daylight” on Nov. 19. Visit BalletSanAntonio.org to get tickets to the Land of Snow and Sweets. It’s almost the “Holiday” season again, and I’m not just “Jive Talkin'.” If you can be “Stayin' Alive” until Dec. 8, you can experience the tribute to One Night of the Bee Gees at the Charline McCombs Empire Theatre. It takes more than “Words” to show “How Deep Is Your Love.” “Don’t Forget to Remember” to get tickets at MajesticEmpire.com if you want “To Love Somebody.” It would be a “Tragedy” if you stayed home with a “Night Fever” when “You Should Be Dancing.” If you remember “Workin' At the Car Wash Blues” or the “Photographs and Memories” of the early 1970s, you may have saved “Time in a Bottle” with the hits of Jim Croce. On Dec. 12, his son A.J. Croce will remind us that “You Don't Mess Around with Jim” or “Bad, Bad Leroy Brown.” You may tell the “Operator (That's Not the Way It Feels)” or that “I’ll Have to Say I Love You in a Song” if you miss this tribute. But remember, “I Got a Name” and the name is Croce Plays Croce at the H-E-B Performance Hall. Tickets at TobinCenter.org NOV 2023

Rogers' albums The Gambler and Kenny were featured in the About.com poll of "The 200 Most Influential Country Albums Ever".[4] He was voted the "Favorite Singer of All Time" in a 1986 joint poll by readers of both USA Today and People.[5] He received numerous awards, such as the AMAs, Grammys, ACMs, and CMAs, as well as a lifetime achievement award for a career spanning six decades in 2003.[6] Later success included the 2006 album release Water & Bridges, an across-theboard hit that entered the top 5 in the Billboard Country Albums sales charts, also charting in the top 15 of the Billboard 200. The first single from the album, "I Can't Unlove You", was also a sizable chart hit. Remaining a popular entertainer around the world, he continued to tour regularly until his retirement in 2017.[3]

KENNY ROGERS
Kenneth Ray Rogers Sr. an American singer and songwriter, was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2013. Rogers was particularly popular with country audiences but also charted more than 120 hit singles across various genres, topping the country and pop album charts for more than 200 individual weeks in the United States alone. He sold more than 100 million records worldwide during his lifetime, making him one of the best-selling music artists of all time. His fame and career spanned multiple genres: jazz, folk, pop, rock, and country. He remade his career and was one of the most successful cross-over artists of all time. In the late 1950s, Rogers began his recording career with the Houstonbased group the Scholars, who first released "The Poor Little Doggie". After some solo releases, including 1958's "That Crazy Feeling", Rogers then joined a group with the jazz singer Bobby Doyle. In 1966, he became a member of the folk ensemble the New Christy Minstrels, playing double bass and bass guitar as well as singing. In 1967, he and several members of the New Christy Minstrels left to found the group the First Edition, with whom he scored his first major hit, "Just Dropped In (To See What Condition My Condition Was In)", a psychedelic rock song which peaked at number five on the Billboard charts. As Rogers took an increased leadership role in the First Edition following the success of 1969's "Ruby, Don't Take Your Love to Town", the band gradually changed styles to a more country feel. The band broke up in 1975–76, and Rogers embarked on a long and successful solo career, which included several successful collaborations, including duets with singers Dottie West, Dolly Parton, and Sheena Easton, and a songwriting partnership with Lionel Richie. His signature song, 1978's "The Gambler", was a crossover hit that won him a Grammy Award in 1980 and was selected in 2018 for preservation in the National Recording Registry by the Library of Congress. He developed the Gambler persona into a character for a successful series of television films starting with 1980's Emmy-nominated Kenny Rogers as The Gambler. NOV 2023

Rogers had acting roles in movies and television shows, including the title roles in Kenny Rogers as The Gambler, the MacShayne series for The NBC Mystery Movie, and the 1982 feature film Six Pack. He was a co-founder of the restaurant chain Kenny Rogers Roasters in collaboration with former KFC CEO John Y. Brown Jr. Although the stores closed in the United States, they are still a fixture in Asia.

"I started playing when I was 13 years old with a band, called the VIPs. I played accordion and sang one song with the band. From there, I jumped to several locals before joining Elio Quintanilla and the Rough Riders. This was a great experience for me in the Tejano Industry and I seized the moment. With this, as I learned and grew more I was able to feel more confident with my skills and musical abilities. I started to expand my tools in music by learning to play as many instruments i could. I play guitar, Bajo, sexto, accordion, bass, drums, piano, fiddle, ukulele, and banjo." As some time passed Jason decided to explore his options. He started playing with Shelly Lares as the Tejano industry Flourished. As well as working with Shelly he was open to new ideas as well. A new band had formed called Vida. Many of Tejano fans remember Grupo Vida. They would pack shows and fill Venues with their famous stage performances and legendary music. This was Jasons newest venture at the time, this was when Tejano Music was at its peak and Grupo Vida brought many of the Tejano fans great memories and great entertainment.
By Henry Zimmerle
"Vida was put together in the late 90s after the split between Eddie Gonzalez and the Vida organization itself. I was playing with Shelly Lares at the time. Sunny and I were good friends, and they thought I would be a good match for the band after the split. I didn’t know how to play guitar at the time, so they taught me three chords, and that took me years when I first joined the group. I was actually fired from Vida twice. Everything comes full circle though, because I ended up fronting the band for the last years that Vida was active. Before joining Vida, I was playing accordion and other bands, but they liked my energy and thought I would match well with the personalities of the others. I ended up staying with Vida for more than 20 years. Then, at some point there comes a time when you have to go on your own and venture out. So I formed Jase Martin. We also toured as "The Standing Peppers". That particular show is mainly a throwback show. We do a lot of casinos and specialty shows with that because it’s all 80s and 90s. It keeps everything fun and fresh playing different kinds of music." Now I know at one time in your career you were with a band called the Electric Cowboys, I understand the Electric Cowboys were a Country Band, correct? "We actually recorded an album called "The Electric Cowboys". We derive the name from that record, When we decided to do country music. So when we felt like doing a country show we would be Electric Cowboys. Now as Jase Martin, we are currently working on a brand new record. The style is more or less Breaking Benjamin meets matchbox 20 meets Jason Aldean. It’s gonna be a very progressive type of country rock. But it’s very exciting, and Is very relatable to the listener. The stuff we write about is stuff that I guarantee everyone has been through. Both good and bad. We are also planning on releasing a couple of Tejano songs to Tejano radio." This month on Henry Z's music beats, we get to know all about Jase Make sure to keep posted for more music and shows in your area from the New Jase Martin. Many of you may recognize him, he has been in the Tejano music Martin Band. We would like to thank Jason Martinez for his time and his dedication industry for many many years. Jase Martin or you may know as Jason to the music that he provides all the fans. Martinez, has played for many well known groups throughout his musical career. His love for music has lead him on a lifelong career of music and performances. "I’ve always liked music. My parents would take me to dances as a kid and I got interested in playing after watching Los Hermanos Farias. I had already been playing drums and piano, since the age of four, and loved performing in front of people. Growing up around that carried with me as I grew. Then as I was Attending McCollum highschool, I had a music teacher who had already taught Emilio, Raulito, and Ram Herrera throughout their years in high school. Mr. Sanchez was a huge influence on me vocally. I learned a lot studying with him." He definitely helped me feel like I was going in the right direction with music" As a fellow student of McCollum Highschool I also knew Mr Sanchez and would go to him for advice as well. He was great with teens and helped with whatever he could, even if it had nothing to do with music. He to me was what a teacher should be to a student, Rest in peace Mr Sanchez. As Jason was growing his abilities in music he decided to join a band.

Jokester! EMERGENCY A car gets a flat tire on the Interstate one day. The lady driver eases it over onto the shoulder of the road. She carefully steps out of the car and opens the trunk. She then takes out two cardboard men, unfolds them, and stands them at the rear of the vehicle, facing oncoming traffic. The lifelike cardboard men are in trench coats and appear naked to approaching drivers. Not surprisingly, the traffic becomes snarled and backed up. It isn’t very long before a police car arrives. The officer, clearly enraged, approaches the lady in the disabled vehicle, yelling, “What is going on here?” “My car broke down, officer,” says the woman calmly. “Well, what the hell are these obscene cardboard pictures doing here by the road?” asks the officer. “Well, those are my emergency flashers!” she replies. MY DAD IS BETTER! Three boys are in the school yard bragging about their fathers. The first boy says, “My dad scribbles a few words on a piece of paper; he calls it a poem; they give him $50.” The second boy says, “That’s nothing. My dad scribbles a few words on a piece of paper; he calls it a song. They give him $100.” The third boy says, “I got you both beat. My dad scribbles a few words on a piece of paper; he calls it a sermon, and it takes eight people to collect all the money!” HONEY I’M LATE! A police officer in a small town stopped a motorist who was speeding down Main Street. “But officer," the man began, “I can explain”. “Just be quiet,” snapped the officer. “I’m going to let you cool your heels in jail until the chief gets back.” “But officer, I just wanted to say.” “And I said to keep quiet! You’re going to jail!” A few hours later, the officer looked in on his prisoner and said, “Lucky for you that the chief is at his daughter’s wedding. He’ll be in a good mood when he gets back.” “Don’t count on it,” answered the fellow in the cell. “I’m the groom.” Answer: C I SAW HER STANDING THERE

DECISIONS DECISIONS! A young man couldn’t decide which girl to date. He liked one girl named Anna, but he really liked another one named Maria, too. He decided to ask his friend for advice. “I can’t decide which girl to date. How do you make important decisions?” he asked his friend. “Well, I go to church,” replied his friend. “Then I look up and pray, and usually the answer just comes to me.” The young man decided to try just that. He went to church, looked up to pray, smiled, and left the church. The next day, he saw his friend and happily announced, “I did what you told me to. I went to church, got my answer, and I didn’t even need to pray.” His friend was surprised. “What do you mean you didn’t even have to pray?” “Well,” the young man replied. “When I looked up, the answer was written in gold above a stained-glass window. It read: Ave Maria.” PEARLY GATES! Three police officers were standing in line at the Pearly Gates. Saint Peter asked the first officer, “What did you do with your life?” “I was a police officer,” he responded. “What kind of police officer?” Saint Peter asked. “I was a vice officer. I kept drugs off the streets and out of the hands of kids.” “Welcome to heaven. You may enter the gates.” He asked the second man what he did as a police officer. “I was a traffic officer,” said the man. “I kept the roads and highways safe.” “Welcome to heaven. You may enter the gates.” He asked the third man what he did as a police officer. “I was a military policeman, sir,” replied the man. “Wonderful! I’ve been waiting for you all day!” replied Saint Peter. “I need to take a break! Watch the gate, will you?”
