Context
•Austrian Adult Education Initiative: Aiming at the free provision of basic skills for adults and young adults after they have left formal education (from 2012). Courses funded by the Federal and Provincial Governments (50/50). Further funding by AMS (Austrian employment office)
•around 30 providers (Austrian wide AE Institutions and regional NGOs) with around 60 programmes/courses accredited so far in the Initiative.
•Estimated 250 active trainers of basic skills in Austria.

Trainers of Basic Skills „BasisbildungstrainerInnen im Blickpunkt“, a study by Stoppacher/Paierl 2009 for In.Bewegung Project (Sample of 44 Trainers):
•87% women •51% have been active more than 3 years •49% attended Univ. of Teacher Education (primary/ lower secondary schools), 38% attended University (higher secondary school teachers, sociology, pedagogy, etc.)

Trainings for Trainers of Basic Skills
•Quality assurance of accredited basic skills programmes and courses asks
for compulsory special qualification of trainers
•About 5 specialized training courses on offer at the moment •Duration from 4 months to 1 ½ years / 80 to 470 time units (~50min.) / 6,5 to 23,5 ECTS (accredited by www.wba.at)
•E.g.: Diploma issued by Education Network Styria: „Training im Bereich Basisbildung“: 155 time units / 12,5 ECTS
